We can’t say enough great things about Marc Witham. He is professional, responsive, and has excellent follow-through. Most important, he is highly knowledgeable of California state rental laws so he’s well qualified to put landlords in their place.
In our case, my wife and I had lived in a rental house for seven years and always had a good relationship with the landlord. Due to an undiscovered water leak, the wood floors in the house began to heave and buckle over the course of a month. The landlord’s handyman removed a section of flooring and we observed white mold covering the dirt crawl space. The entire floor needed to be removed and the mold remediated. Rather than work with us to temporarily move out, the landlord sent us an email stating she had no choice but to evict us.
We’re certain the true reason she evicted us was to substantially increase the rent. The effect on us was that we were pushed into a highly inflated San Diego rental market, with rents at 30% and higher than what we’d been paying. Panic set in the moment we received the 60-day notice.
When we were evicted, our stress levels reached boiling point as our landlord kept calling us daily to find out when we’d be moving. We needed help right away. Marc’s online appointment system let us set up an initial consultation (we were able to schedule a call the very next morning). As residential tenants, it cost us $160 for our first call. That may seem like a lot, but the waves of relief we felt afterward made it well worth the money.
It’s the relief from stress that we appreciated most. What we really needed was enough time to find a new rental. On that first call, after hearing our situation Marc was immediately able to cite a state code section that granted us far longer than the landlord’s 60-day notice. He also advised that her notice wouldn’t hold up because it wasn’t properly formatted or delivered. It was clear we were working with the right attorney for the job.
Our rental situation dragged on for over two months, and we spent just under $1,000 in attorney fees. It was worth every cent. Marc initially issued a detailed letter, filled with legal citations specific to our case (i.e., not a form letter), that pushed back on the landlord. When she kept calling us, which we considered harassment at that point, Marc intervened again and asserted he was now acting as our voice, stating all communications needed to go through him. Words can’t express the relief we felt.
Not only did Marc get us the time we needed to find a new place, he also helped negotiate an equitable settlement so we could recoup expenses we’d suffered. We’re not talking millions here, but it was enough to ease the pain and cover our moving costs.

I met Douglas through a referral by my friend. I never thought I would be needing his help but when my vehicle (SUV) gave me headaches , I said I must call Douglas. My wife and I were charged with a crime for non-permitted rental real estate. The non-permitted portion of the home was built between 1969 and 1978. The city made us either tear down 1/4 of the house or bring it up to code.
Though Greg is not a real-estate specialist but, he has all the right connections. He advised us how to get through the legal battle by bringing the house up to code. And, while re-construction proceeded, he kept on top of all legal matters with the city.

What was the problem that you had before you called our law firm?
I had many issues with my Vehicle but most of all trying to get a call back from an attorney was the hardest thing. So many out of area attorneys not very helpful was the WORST!!!!!

I bought a factory-certified 2017 Kia Sorento in fall 2018 from a local dealer.
In June 2023 at 55,000 miles, I first noticed a burnt oil smell when driving my car. The Kia developed an oil consumption problem and started burning 1-quart of oil internally each week, without any external visible trace.
I took my car to the Carlsbad Kia dealer, who performed all the service on it, and explained this latest problem. I brought it there several times through the end of 2023, hoping for resolution.
While still under factory warrant, the dealer said there was little they could do for me. They advised me to drive the car until the engine died and gave me the phone number to report my problem to Kia America HQ.
Likewise, Kia America pushed back and said I need to resolve it through the dealer. Feeling frustrated, I filed a complaint with the federal highway agency, NHTSA.
In January 2024, a family member had problems with a new hybrid Jeep Wrangler he bought and enlisted help from San Diego Lemon Law attorney Doug Sohn. That family member encouraged me to contact Doug’s office to see if they could also help my case.
In late January, I followed-up and filed an inquiry on the law firm’s website. One week later, they contacted me to set up an initial background call with attorney Doug Sohn.
I explained the whole problem to Doug who said he’d research this problem with other Kia owners and report back to me if he felt we had a valid case.
In February, Doug contacted me after his research, he felt I had a valid claim and agreed to take my case. We held a brief follow-up call to review how their firm proceeds on these cases, how valuation of my vehicle and their compensation works, and sent me forms to sign.
His staff asked me to submit several documents about my purchase of the car, title, service receipts, etc. Two weeks later, Doug provided me with initial draft of his letter to Kia America, outlining my case as supported by his research of this oil problem with Kia and Hyundai vehicles. His letter requested that they buy back my car, based on my damaged engine and unreliability of the frequent need for oil.
In April, my relative settled his claim with Jeep through Doug’s help and received full reimbursement for his problematic new vehicle.
In May, we received Kia’s acceptance of Doug’s proposal to buy back my Kia Sorento. I was overjoyed, with a great sense of relief on that news. The law firm warned me that Kia is not the fastest to resolve these cases and said it would take about 120 days to be completed.
As I drove the car for another four months, I kept replenishing oil into the engine every 1 to 2 weeks based on my driving. The car was becoming more unreliable, and it actually blew a cylinder during my last month of ownership.
By October, Kia finally arranged a date for me turn-in my car at the local Kia dealer, working with a 3rd party firm who handles these arrangements for Kia America. In early November, the law firm received payment from Kia, and Doug sent my check for agreed settlement amount.
Overall, I was extremely pleased with the law firm’s detailed follow-through and steady communication. The staff kept me informed regularly on the progress of my claim.

I bought a factory-certified 2017 Kia Sorento in fall 2018 from a local dealer.
In June 2023 at 55,000 miles, I first noticed a burnt oil smell when driving my car. The Kia developed an oil consumption problem and started burning 1-quart of oil internally each week, without any external visible trace.
I took my car to the Carlsbad Kia dealer, who performed all the service on it, and explained this latest problem. I brought it there several times through the end of 2023, hoping for resolution.
While still under factory warrant, the dealer said there was little they could do for me. They advised me to drive the car until the engine died and gave me the phone number to report my problem to Kia America HQ.
Likewise, Kia America pushed back and said I need to resolve it through the dealer. Feeling frustrated, I filed a complaint with the federal highway agency, NHTSA.
In January 2024, a family member had problems with a new hybrid Jeep Wrangler he bought and enlisted help from San Diego Lemon Law attorney Doug Sohn. That family member encouraged me to contact Doug’s office to see if they could also help my case.
In late January, I followed-up and filed an inquiry on the law firm’s website. One week later, they contacted me to set up an initial background call with attorney Doug Sohn.
I explained the whole problem to Doug who said he’d research this problem with other Kia owners and report back to me if he felt we had a valid case.
In February, Doug contacted me after his research, he felt I had a valid claim and agreed to take my case. We held a brief follow-up call to review how their firm proceeds on these cases, how valuation of my vehicle and their compensation works, and sent me forms to sign.
His staff asked me to submit several documents about my purchase of the car, title, service receipts, etc. Two weeks later, Doug provided me with initial draft of his letter to Kia America, outlining my case as supported by his research of this oil problem with Kia and Hyundai vehicles. His letter requested that they buy back my car, based on my damaged engine and unreliability of the frequent need for oil.
In April, my relative settled his claim with Jeep through Doug’s help and received full reimbursement for his problematic new vehicle.
In May, we received Kia’s acceptance of Doug’s proposal to buy back my Kia Sorento. I was overjoyed, with a great sense of relief on that news. The law firm warned me that Kia is not the fastest to resolve these cases and said it would take about 120 days to be completed.
As I drove the car for another four months, I kept replenishing oil into the engine every 1 to 2 weeks based on my driving. The car was becoming more unreliable, and it actually blew a cylinder during my last month of ownership.

Bill was the litigator for an ERISA plan , in which the former trustees had breached their fiduciary duties. Bill's performance in this role was outstanding because he was always extremely prepared and immediately responsive during the trial. For example one witness and one defendant testified falsely and Bill immediately referred them to admitted trial documents which proved their testimony was false. The defendant who testified falsely admitted his previous statement was "probably wrong". The judge in Federal Court ultimately ruled in our favor on the main issue in the case. A very important fact upon which he based this ruling was that this defendant's testimony was not true and this led the judge to rule in our favor on this primary issue.
