Noel Meza was fantastic. He helped us to recover a large amount of money from our insurance carrier who was refusing in bad faith to pay anything. Noel stayed on top of it for us and aggressively negotiated with the insurer to recover our money. I highly recommend.

For many years I have had to put up with the "neighbors from hell". They were consistently unfriendly and hostile to us. At one point, regarding an ongoing fence dispute , We both finally "lost it" and responded with all sorts of crude language, and I called the Sheriff and filed for a Temporary Restraining Order. My first advice to anyone who has a problem with their neighbors is DO NOT file for a Restraining Order, unless they can be proven to be a physical threat and meet the heavy criteria involved in this order. Also, be aware that the person you file upon can "cross file" and then they are asking for a restraining order against you. That is what happened in my case and it was very upsetting. I found Mark's phone number on line and called him. He immediately put my mind at ease, explaining and assuring me of my options and how to proceed. He understood, typically, when a person reaches out for legal help they are emotionally battered and in great need of someone to "vent" to. Someone who can sort out the emotional pain from what is the plain legal aspects of our problem. He was able to put my mind at ease with one phone call, in which he generously gave me free of charge until I decided to hire him. I knew he was not an "ambulance chaser" the moment he laid it on the line about how costly and for the most part unsuccessful civil lawsuits can be. He helped me to put into perspective that I do NOT want to go there if I can avoid it. For a very reasonable fee Mark took all of my Court Documents, Photos and Tons of "Evidence" by e-mail attachment and reviewed it. He then gave me his professional opinion on to how to proceed and the possible outcome (s). I then hired him (once again all online) at his hourly rate. He faithfully and kindly reviewed all my paperwork and reviewed events as they unfolded towards the hearing date set by the Court. He provided more than legal advice, he provided a much needed "shoulder to cry on" . He was genuine in his concern and offered encouragement to for me to move forward with confidence. He reviewed and "fixed" all my documents to represent myself with proper grammar and favorable viewing by the Court. I have a deep seated respect and fear of the Law. It was painful in the extreme to put myself before a legal proceeding, especially knowing that I was not blameless (its takes two to quarrel) so I would have do defend my actions. The outcome of the hearing was WE WON HANDS DOWN! Total victory and satisfaction. The other party was humiliated by, in part, my advantage to having legal counsel and advice on how to proceed. Remember in my case at least, this whole unfortunate, sad and depressing episode could have been avoided had I not acted in haste. If you are unable to reason with your neighbors most likely that will never change, just suck it up and walk away. However, if you find your self up to your neck in legal proceedings or think you need an attorney I suggest you call Mark! I pretty much "vet" folks I hire from a gut feeling and I trusted him immediately. As a side note, he is also GLBT friendly if that is important to you and or has a bearing on your case. Although that fact had nothing to do with my case, it happened to come up in the course of sharing, I feel more comfortable with folks who are supportive of civil rights for all! Just remember, if you yourself are the "neighbor from hell" and you have no defense to offer for being a "hateful and bad person" take a look at yourself before you engage in a fight that you cannot possibly win. I feel very lucky and quite smug in fact that I was successful and I hope this review can help you if you find yourself in a similar situation. Sincerely One Happy Client.

I've hired Carole on several matters in the past for counsel on ethics in attorney marketing. I own a lawyer SEO firm and Carole has been invaluable in helping me create contracts, disclaimers and operate within the boundaries of good ethics and the law. She has also helped me when I had questions on an attorney's behalf to ensure that they do not respond to a review improperly or put something on their website or marketing materials. If you are an attorney, or work with attorneys in the field of marketing, Carole is the authority in Southern California.

I do not have a ton of contacts and wanted to sell my business which I built over 10 years time. My business was quite successful and grossing 3 million but I was super burnt out and wanted to move out of Southern California. I needed someone who would represent me and look out for my best interests. I called a bunch of attorneys but mostly found arrogance, over inflated fees, and slow response times. I knew one excellent trademark attorney who was honest and easy to deal with but I figured I needed someone with expertise in business sales. It's been over 2 years since I worked with Tim but I still remember how lucky I was to have found him. He is super organized and help me gather the necessary documents to present to the buyers of my business to make the due diligence process a snap. The buyers were quite impressed with the package we presented to them. This was the due diligence phase - the prospectus was already written before I met Tim. He is a tough negotiator but fair in dealing with the other side so both parties to the agreement feel good. He seems to enjoy what he does for a living. He takes time in "crafting the purchase agreement" - that's the words he used with me. These are not just words. I have worked with plenty of attorneys and know what he means. Tim was a pleasure to work with - I only wish I could retain his services in my new state. It would also help if I could build another successful business first! Not easy.

Rarely do you state a lawyer is a great person, but Erik is exactly that. I have know him since the beginning of his legal career and he has always impressed me with his knowledge and thoroughness. Yet he is also practical and can bring the law into the real world of business. He understands that the legal solution is not always the best business solution. He does not bring his ego into your business. I would typify him as your good legal friend whom has some well thought out advice.

Araceli was very clear as to what needed to be done and how she was going to help me with my case. Also, English is my second language so the fact that she is fluent in English and Spanish just made it so easy to communicate with her and I was able to ask whatever questions I had without worrying I wasn't going to be understood. She was reachable by phone or email which gave me piece of mind since my case was time sensitive. I highly recommend Araceli.

I had a pretty messy situation with a DUI/DWI that I hadn't taken care of and had allowed to languish for about 10 years. To further complicate things, I had moved out of the state that the infraction had originally happened in, so this was going to be a difficult affair. I shopped around for representation in the area and one thing that really stuck out about Vincent: whereas everyone else was basically saying it was a slamdunk and that they could get all charges dismissed within 30 days, guaranteed; Vincent was honest with me in saying that this was a complicated case and that he couldn't guarantee such a thing. By no means did he admonish me, but he did make clear how difficult my case could be because of the time elapsed and my move from the state. After this conversation, I knew I had my attorney. Vincent clearly had a level of integrity that is a cut above everyone else's. Vincent fought hard during my case. I was facing extensive fines and possibly jailtime. Fortunately, thanks to his tenacity, Vincent was able to get my case dismissed and I was able to walk away with a totally clean record. I can't thank him enough for his integrity, hard-work, and grit. I highly recommend placing Mr. Russo on your shortlist of possible representation, you won't regret it.

I highly recommend Chris Roberts. He is a very reliable and trustworthy lawyer. I really appreciate how he helped me through my bankruptcy case. He treated me not just as a client, but as a human being. Bankruptcy was such a bitter pill to swallow, but he showed me all of the options that I had...all of the pros and cons of what I would want to do and how it can affect me. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel because of Chris' guidance. He is very knowledgeable and always kept me informed. He knew I was scared about the whole process, but he made sure that I was aware of what could happen and what I needed to do (e.g. what to do with the paperwork, court appearance, etc.). I felt Chris' concern for me as a human being. I was actually scared of contacting a lawyer because I was afraid of being treated like I don't know anything. But I am thankful that Chris listened to my concerns and answered my questions without making me feel like I should've known the answer already (like how other lawyers are). Overall, I think Chris is someone who has concern and care for his clients, which I believe is important when you want to have someone as a lawyer. He knows his material, and he is very helpful and approachable along the way.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
