We all know that the more experience a lawyer has, the better. It is important that the lawyer possess the utmost knowledge of the law district (s)he practices within, and knows the judges and prosecutors. You can even make sure to find a lawyer with membership in a specialized organization, like the American Trial Lawyers Association, which supplies members with resources and information. And, you could go so far as to compare the lawyer’s past results by requesting some proof of prior verdicts such as court records or newspaper reports. Frankly, I suggest you do.
But, if you have come here you obviously are looking for a subjective assessment and that is what I often use in appraisals of all kinds. I am an investor and value a good lawyer’s contributions and ideas. Nils is one of the very few attorneys I have employed that can speak with you like a compeer, yet - provide you with ideas, insight and legal information that for me has kept us out of court - yet on the leading edge of the law. He handles his cases personally, has an excellent staff and makes himself available even after hours (and that can be his one weakness, since he is a trial lawyer, he can be found in court and thus be a bit difficult to reach).
Nevertheless, he has usually found time for me during a given day and always by the evening or next day. His rates are fair and he often likes speaking on subject or off - without charging. I think Nills is an excellent lawyer.

Amir Atashirang, as my attorney, was excellent and comfortable to work with. He was accessible, understanding, and provided useful information and guidance. Mike's presentation, fearlessness while under scrutiny, combined with his knowledge, experience and work ethic easily makes him an authority on all things regarding zoning/land use. I had the pleasure of working with Michael after reading his publication: Land Use Navigator. The only downside is the firm in which he works(not his fault, his co-workers just seem to have an affinity to steal/take credit for his work+ they are impossible to deal with due to their egotistical mannerisms). Michael is truly a gem and I hope he starts a private practice soon so I won't have to deal with his petty administration. If you are honest and have an honest grievance needing legal resolution, Steven Adair MacDonald and Partners will do everything they can to help you. Steven Adair MacDonald never said very much but as soon as he agreed to take on my case, actions were immediate. He simply stated: "We'll get it settled" and he/they did! I'm an 80-year-old woman and a San Francisco tenant for over 30 years. About ten years ago, I had rented my own bedroom (I moved into the living room) to college students to help pay the rent. A year ago, I foolishly rented my room to a middle-age woman who towers over me and lied about everything to gain entrance to my home. This subtenant blamed all her problems on me, picked fights with me for no reason and then accused me of provoking them and her verbal abuse and threats became increasingly vicious, especially to my cats. I asked her to move out, but her reply was that she was not going to move out, soon or ever! The Rent Board informed me that because I had never told this subtenant that I could evict her without just cause before signing the rental agreement, I could be doomed to live in the same one bedroom apartment with the abusive tyrant for the rest of my life if she refused to vacate. When I appealed to the S.F. Department of Adult Protective Services, the personnel felt I did have a case but not enough hard proof so they could not really do anything. I finally hired a lawyer, but I soon got the feeling that he was really working for my abuser, as he consistently sided with the abuser and implied I was to blame. The months of coping with a vicious subtenant and an "incompetent lawyer" who often put me in physical danger of the vicious subtenant's temper, and then this complete betrayal of my trust by the "representatives of Justice" drove me to a near physical and mental collapse. The moment Mr. MacDonald took my case, everything changed for me. He immediately had Priscilla, his assistant, draw up a Request for Dismissal. That Thursday morning when I again entered that Courtroom to face again that same Judge, I somehow felt as if Priscilla towered by my side. But, of course, Priscilla was not present at all. As soon as the Judge saw I had not appeared with a new lawyer, He launched into another round of rebukes against me that had been repeated many times for hours that last Monday. Finally, a clerk tried three times in a timid voice to inform the Judge that my case had already been dismissed. When she finally succeeded in her third effort, Wow, the look on the face of that Judge was everything I could have wished for. All he said was, "Oh, well, then, there is no need to proceed further." And I was finally free from him and injustice! To me, my case seemed very simple. But for the lawyers, even the most experienced and successful, certain San Francisco rental laws have made even a clear case of justice/injustice become very difficult to win. Nevertheless, Steven Adair MacDonald and Partners did finally get my subtenant to sign a Stipulation in which she admitted I had just cause to evict her. I can't describe specifically all that Steven MacDonald did to win my case but as the other two very dedicated partners, Danny Wang and Tiffany Hufford, who did most of the concrete work on my case, were very young, I imagine Mr. MacDonald's years of experience must have helped guide them to final success. What I did always feel and am most grateful for is that he seemed to really sympathize with my plight as a victim, and if Steven Adair MacDonald decided to do something about it, he would do it, whether alone, by his partners or together with his partners. Finally, I was no longer alone; I had honest and very capable lawyers on my side! That was the Tower of Strength I felt standing with me that day in Court and throughout my struggle. No words can ever express my gratitude to Steven Adair MacDonald and his partners for giving me back my life, my home and hope for my one remaining cat.

I hired Matt to represent me in a case involving a school and a fellow student's false accusations against me. Without going into too much detail about the case itself, I can say that Matt was an unexpected blessing. Not only did he immediately want to listen to my side and hear me out, he also realized from our first meeting that this entire situation had devastated me. He was available to talk 24/7, whenever I had a meltdown and needed him. He definitely didn't have to do that, but he seemed to genuinely care about not only my case but my own personal well being.

This guy needs to run for mayor or something. Being a lawyer is beneath him.
When my employer was making my life hell on Earth, I felt so helpless. I had to have called up 10 lawyers. I dealt with so many who didn't talk to me straight.
This guy actually read through my stuff. Frankly his consultation on its own gave me more time than lawyers I hired.
Every other lawyer blew me off and didn't even care to look over my stuff. One even agreed to get me on a phone call, but ended up just flaking even having a consultation - Even *after* I took 30 minutes to fill out a form for him! Yeah! I think I'll be reviewing that guy next!
Now it's time to reward the good guys though.
Frankly I am a chicken dealing with lawyers. I'm not familiar with it. I could probably program the next big thing some day but the law to me is a bunch of wizardry.
I ended up chickening out and not going through with the severance agreement. When I wrote the company lawyers a big letter to them about what I got put through they responded (in substance):
The company disagrees with your points and doesn't want to discuss the matter this time.
Kind of like how I came in at 5 AM to program my companies software. How I stood there and dealt with bullying behavior by people who, in fact, had little clue of the subject at hand were NOT senior. I was programming in the work force programming and only dropped out to do a summer program sponsored by Google. Do they care what I sacrificed for them? I hardly took a day off! Other's went to Hawaii! I stayed weekends!
The manipulativeness of the CEO - after all my sacrifice - he even manipulated the staff to just reject my box I had mailed to me at the office. For a coffee machine I paid by hand for all to use. As if my own *taint* was a scar on the company.
The CEO even bragged to his friend about how, in our performance reviews and private talks, he deliberately tried to push and stress me.
Corporations that act like a parasite at the blood of an honest worker destroy the trust we have in things. The ideals that make labor actually work. What a toxic CEO.

We hired Dan for a second immigration interview. We didn't get the lawyer earlier on and we should have hired him from the beginning! We talked to a lot of lawyers before he was recommended to us by another lawyer. The consultation was thorough, he was organized with his questions, he gave us a lot of information and he was very professional. We liked that he was no-nonsense and confident about our case. When we came back for the prep interview, he gave us tips and information that would prove to be very valuable during the interview. During the 2nd and 3rd interview (we did both on the same day), having him there to guide and support us made me more confident in answering questions. This is just an update to my previous review. I was very happy that the appeal prepared by Ron has been successful, and the original denial decision made by the California Service Center has been overturned by the Administrative Appeals Office. Ronald continued his support even after completing his job, and later helped with additional documents for a moderate fee. Some of his ideas and suggestions did not work out as he believed and suggested, but the major outcome of this difficult case was in my favor. I highly recommend him.

He advised me and provided practical help in rather complicated employment-based non-immigrant visa petition, which has been mishandled by other officials before his involvement. The team at Jewell, Stewart and Pratt made our transition from Czech Republic to California go remarkably well. On Halloween night, 2013, I was struck by a car while crossing the street in a crosswalk. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and diagnosed with a fractured scull and a broken leg. When I returned home 3 weeks later I called Mark Iezza to represent me with the person that had hit me and his insurance company. Mark and I met on Thanksgiving day, and he got right to work.
The insurance company told us that the claim was not worth the maximum allowed settlement, so before there meeting to present there official offer, Mark called the head of the claims department (who ho knew) and explained that he had plenty of documented evidence to support a claim for the maximum payment. Soon after, Valentines Day, Mark called me and said that the Insurance company was going to settle for the full amount we were asking for, $3000,000.
After The lawyer's fee and medical expenses I received a check for over $181,000 in March of 2014. From the time of the accident till the claim was settled was less than 4 months. The money made sure that I did not suffer financially from this ordeal.
I was fortunate to recover fully from this nightmare, and mark was a concerned and zealous advocate throughout.
