My name is Britney. I saw her ad on Vietnamese television and I called her office to make an appointment. She asked me bring a check $1,000 and write her name on it, then we can talk and she can write some letters to that person, to see how he responses, after that I can decide that I want to go for a law suit or not, it will may cost me up to $50,000. So I came to see her and bring a check $1,000. I didn't know she is a preacher, and she tell me that God said: you shall forgive people not only seven time, but seventy times seven. I watched the movie "Ten Commandments" every year on ABC7 and I heard Rameses said: seven times seven. I have found she is hypocrite and unprofessional, so I change my mind and want half of my money back ($500) But she didn't give me any money back. Please do not come to her office.

I paid her to do a living trust for me on September 2013. I just found out recently that my properties were never transfer to a trust. I called her office & her staff was saying sorry that they didnt know why my file was putting away without recording. They asked me to give them 2 checks for recording fees but don't know how much I should pay for. They told me to leave it blank. It's another week go by & my checks have not been cashed yet, so that means it may not send over to the county for recording again. Have to call them again tomorrow. Very unproffesional & not trustworthy! Run away from this office!

I would give her zero stars if I could. Save your energy and time this lawyer is looking for a quick return on her clients. I was injured and lost my job while I was in the hospital for a work related injury. After 1 year of working on my case she told me to settle my case for 10k and give up my future medical. She literally stated "this case is only worth 10,000 and I am only making 2,000 from this. So you should just settle" Who says that stuff to clients yet alone a human being? I still was not in any condition to walk or go back to work. She is not there for your best interest as she has limited experience in trials and funds to appeal your case. Think twice before going to her.

I was a client of Mr. Cottle. I found all communication coming from this lawyer to be condescending. He didn't seem interested in helping or explaining issues related to my case. He offered no guidance or approaches which might have helped resolve any of my issues. I would definitely not recommend or hire this attorney again.

Tom skinner a lawyer who advocates in tenants and workers. I was referred to him by another well respected attorney at a prestigious law firm. As soon as the call began Skinner became annoyed, disinterested, dismissive and down right condescending. Skinner has absolutely no bedside manners whatsoever and down right does not care about what people are going through nor does he pretend to care. I was just seeking consultation with whether or not if I had a case or not, among another relevant workers case that was ongoing since 2015, and settlement negotiations has started. Now money was not an issue if it would have been a paid consultation which it was not. In fact he was answering his own calls which begs to differ if he even had a secretary. Skinner was by far the Rudest, Disrespectful, Callous, Arrogant, Aggressive, Egocentric, Impatient man that I have seen in my professional experience. This man does not know how to conduct himself around women and clearly Does Not respect women whatsoever, He rushed me off the phone however KEPT asking me which Law Firm referred me to him because he was so obviously offended that SKINNER name was given as a recommendation which was clearly a compliment. I had further things to discuss with him but now I will be taking my business elsewhere. Mr. skinner how you treat someone reflects who you are inside and out. How you treated me was beyond disgusting and unacceptable, karma sir is a beautiful thing that I promise you.

Jeffrey said he was a competent real estate attorney, so I hired him to handle business formation for the purpose of opening a real estate brokerage. I provided Jeffrey full payment and he formed an LLC. I then signed a franchise agreement with a major brokerage, a lease on a building and I went to the DRE to register my company and obtain a company brokerage license. The California Dept of Real Estate denied my application, stating they do not license LLC's, only corporations as business entities. I contacted Jeffery and he said he would redo the business formation and file another entity, but I had to pay him again! As I was in a tough time crunch, I paid him thousands more, again. This should have been basic knowledge for a real estate attorney and Jeffrey should have owned his error and not charged me a significant amount for a second business formation. He also failed to submit a cancellation of the LLC to the state and I had to do that on my own, in addition to having franchise lease agreements moved to the new entity.

Don't know the law. Cannot make a legal argument. Deer in the headlight in front of the judge. Judge ask him a question. He answers like a school boy whom got into trouble, and cannot answer in a complete sentence. No prep for the court. Loses everything you send him, and magically find them when confront with proof of delivery. Says that he cannot find anything in his office, and blame it on the staff. One trick pony, "My dog ate my homework"..... defense. Should of learned it in elementary school, the teachers don't buy it, neither does the judge. There is reason why he is so cheap with 25 years of experience.

Appointed this 'attorney', and told him I wanted to go to trail asap. He asked to have more time, that I should wave time. I told him I want to go to trail in 3 months and I waved time but wanted to get back in court to assert my right to speedy trail. He kept me out of the court for years! Why? He wanted to be the first attorney to break facebook subpoena to force them to produce information, to make case law. So, he started to play these games... when I discovered he was in violation of Californa Constitutional law, and asserted my constitutional right to be in court with my attorney, he then told the judge I was incompetent so he could have at least a year more to bust facebook. All the while, the evil DAs knew I was innocent. They though it was funny!

This attorney was court appointed. He was honest when he said the court has not ever given parents their children back when there are allegations of DRUG use. He failed to file motions in a timely matter. He failed to make objections when they were obvious & appropriate to make during court hearings. He neglected to file evidence that I provided that would have proven the petitioners allegations false had he filed my evidence with the court. He waived defective notice without speaking with me. He made no objection to the findings that the ICWA did not apply, after I insisted that it did&had proof he did not think would have made a difference because it was not filed. He never contacted me and very rarely did he return phone calls. E-mail was the best way to get in contact with him. The best advice he gave to me was.... "that is not your fight. Getting your kids back is what you're fighting for. Just do what the social workers want you to do and that is DRUG test." His arguments where not mine. He said in his arguments things like "my client is trying to pull her family out of homelessness." & "I think the party's are starting to come up with a resolution, my client believes she can take care of her children. We just need more time to come up with the proper treatment rather than a cookie cutter type of program." His arguments were not even close to convincing. He did however get me an extra visit for two hours. Total of 2 days/week. 2hours/ea. He did request make up visits when I was in court the morning I had a visit because notice said 830 not 130.

I have been in the criminal and civil justice system for over thirty years. I have worked with dozens of attorneys on many complex civil matters. Regrettably, Mr. Reed was assigned to my Federal Lawsuit in California. I initially thought he was nice and friendly. Now, at a time when I need to rely on my attorneys, he has gone silent. He fails to return messages and has stopped providing any information about my case. Worse, I wanted to take my case to another attorney - yet Mr. Reed and his firm refused to provide my file. I have been asking for my file for over five months, despite the law requiring that he must provide it. Now, sadly, my federal lawsuit has been dismissed. Folks, this is the type of lawyer that gives attorneys a bad name. RUN from this attorney and never look back. With tens of thousands of attorneys why would anyone want to hire this guy? You might notice that there is already an alert on this website about him. He has been disciplined by the State Bar of California. I can assure you that discipline by the State Bar is rare. This should speak volumes about this attorney. RUN!

Jay Ross positions himself as an expert and leader in construction defect litigation. He is not even close. Construction defect requires at least a basic understanding of insurance, insurance agreements, and the possibility that a contractor will use bankruptcy to delay and avoid fulfilling his/her requirements. Jay took on our case and told us that he expected a 12-18 month time frame and $50-$100K in legal fees. The damages were approximately $375,000. He never once questioned whether insurance would even cover the defects and if not how to collect from the contractor. He never considered a writ of attachment and was aware that the contractor had previously filed for bankruptcy and there were questions about his workers comp status.

This lawyer is the least reliable lawyer I've ever met. He filed my H-1b visa for two years, but for the first year he failed to submit my documentation on time, and the second year he didn't even file the right position required by USCIS. Later, he explained that it was because USCIS became picky!! WTF? During the process, I sent a lot of emails asking the status but they were extremely lame to respond; the replied very slow, or even ignored my emails. I think the only reason that my company is using them is that this lawyer is CHEAP. Thanks for helping me say bye to the U.S.

i hired Lerna Kazazic and she is a terrible lawyer. She is almost like a junior lawyer just fresh out of Santa Clara law school just trying to get the ropes. She made promises to me that she did not keep. Now as a customer my back is up against the wall. Lerna doesn't listen. Lerna Kazazic way of operating in the little as possible and makes excuses. I am very seasoned, having hired 20+ lawyers and Lerna is the worst ever! A year wasted and now I have to hire someone to start from scratch and dig us out of the hole. Do not hire Lerna, or you will be miserable like me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
