I have worked with Mr. Vanderhoef for 20 years. He has represented me in medical cases, and I have also collaborated with him in his defense of other client physicians. He is a kind but tough attorney whose attention to detail and communication talents are a powerful set of skills. I will continue retaining him as our family attorney, and if needed as a defense attorney also.

I have worked with several companies and clients dealing with work compensation issues. Ann has been instrumental in resolving issues and winning cases for us. Whether it is WISHA/DOSH/OSHA compliance issues, risk class audit issues or work compensation issues, Ann and the staff at Homes, Weddle & Barcott have been excellent to work with. All issues have been resolved in a manner that worked for us whether it is a settlement or a win. Thank you, ANN!!

With intense pressure from the IRS and other creditors we filed a business Chapter 11 through Joel. His brilliant tactics kept the IRS and creditors at bay which gave us time to go to work and about 18 months later we paid off the IRS and all creditors and removed ourselves from bankruptcy protection. Joel cuts to the chase and gets the job done. Highly recommend!

Amy represents me. I had applied for social security and was represented by another lawyer that when I had my first hearing I was denied. He suggested I appeal that decision with another lawyer and that's how I found Amy ! She's straight to the point. Detailed and really knows her work. She found medical records and other important information pertaining to my case my other lawyer had not but certainly should have. She found reason for the appeal and won that hearing for a remand hearing which is basically a second chance redo of the first hearing again. For the first time I really felt like someone was on my side and there to help me ! If you have ever any doubts about her don't ! SHE KNOWS HER STUFF ! maybe having a background with social security appeals gives her that upper hand or maybe she is just that good or maybe both. ! We had my Remand hearing is was with a judge multiple lawyers had said was the hardest to get approved from. The same judge I had the first time. I freeze up in stressful situations. My mind goes blank. She knew exactly what to ask me to make me remember to stay on track and telly story in my own words. Every time we talked I felt literally like her only client even though I'm sure she has many. If you want to win your case Amy is a shark . If she believes in your case she will do everything to get you what you deserve. When she called to say we won the remand hearing I was shocked it didn't hit me for a couple days, the process had taken so long even before her I knew one day it would happen but had no immediate hopes. She's a lawyer that will really stand for you and the only layer I'd ever reference for such cases.

I asked Terry Danysh to take over and represent my interests in a complicated land use case. Deadlines were fast approaching and the pressure was on. Terry outlined a thorough litigation plan and with the assistance of Charlie Beckett we were literally off to the races. The excellent work product and effort these gentlemen provided matched the result. Also, I enjoyed working with these guys!

After an extensive search for an attorney with Insurance litigation, I found Rachel Scott. Rachel was extremely proactive, kept me informed and responded to my many concerns. The result of this expierence and dedication is that my benefits were reinstated. Although, this was certainly not her biggest case, she treated it as such. I highly recommend this lawyer. Sincerely, Linda Sadler

I've worked with several attorneys in the past. In patent law however, Mason is the first attorney. I've been really happy with the work Mason has done for Livri. He spent a surprising amount of time explaining the process, our options and, keeping in mind that we were a tiny startup, his recommendations on what was the lowest cost direction to take. I especially liked the fact that Mason used to work as a developer at Microsoft before he switched to law. And that proved to be extremely useful since Livri's product is very software centric and thus requires a technical background to understand.

He is the best lawyer in town for medical board issues! We hired him 2018. He is knowledgable, professional and honest. He is great a writer and orator. He also has a cheap rates yet his service doesn't feel cheap. It feels exceptional. He is not a greedy person. He is very transparent about his services. He gave us an itemized receipt. Of all the Lawyers we used he is the best. Thank Mr. Sheldon! Highly Recommend.

I'm on the Board of Fire Commissioners for a small local fire district and we recently got into a disagreement with our insurer that was going to cause a lot of problems with our budget. Frank came in, looked at the policy, and came up with a creative approach that convinced the insurer to change its position -- and we didn't even have to file a lawsuit! He did it efficiently, was always responsive to our questions, and in the end, saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars. I can't say enough good things about him.

John is an excellent attorney, and was a critical contributor to my in-house IP practice. His advise is direct, strategic, and very bottom-line oriented. He is up on all the latest technologies, and spends considerable time keeping up on competitors and related fields. As a result, his advice almost always reflects a comprehensive and strategic approach.

The most important legal advise was to get life insurance on each other when he helped us set up our corporation , I said we can't afford it , but we managed to afford it due to Timothy Knowling s explanation of why it was so important . As the story unfolds my partner was killed in a car accident , all the debt was paid off and I was able to continue the bussiness . You see his partner in bussiness had died . Most people don't like their lawyer I love mine , it's been over 25 yrs ago that he became my lawyer and never once has he not given me my family members and Corporation the best advise ! Thank You , Timothy Knowling

Helped me beat an accident ticket, by thorough use and understanding of applicable laws. And had the Judge amused at the inability of the Prosecuting attorney to mount any relevant legal response to the argument.-- Case Dismissed: Lynnwood Court///// I have also used this attorney to send letters, for the extra impact it provides on property disputes, business & commercial breaches, etc. I love her wit and willingness to work with you to help out.

Ms. Maloney worked with our arts organization to update our gallery consignment contract. She had to ensure that our contract was in compliance with state regulations and laws—some of which are very unique to artists. She also had to provide a contract that was easy to understand. She worked patiently with us through several what-if scenarios, and diligently dug into whatever additional rules might apply for a new idea. The final document serves us well as an organization, protecting us as appropriate yet also ensuring we fulfill our responsibilities to artists. This is what we needed—a contract which illuminates and protects all parties' interests.

Our experience with Steve Zwerin started with a recommendation from a friend. Our landlords were trying to take advantage of us because we had a new infant. Steve began by assessing and listening to all of our concerns. Then he got us the answers. We followed his to-the-point advice, and his communications were so effective that no legal action was necessary. Our landlords now know where there place is, and we are living happily and quietly in our home.

Steve is my go-to small business lawyer, and has been a perfect fit for me. He's very knowledgeable in most legal issues that face my business, but is equally good about speaking up when we exit his area of expertise (e.g. international issues) and willing to help find an expert. He's smart, asks good questions and gives clear, practical advice. Manages to a budget well, something I value. He's advised me on a wide range of topics on two businesses, including initial incorporation (LLC vs S-Corp), confidentiality agreements, contract reviews and IP questions.

I can't say enough about the high degree of integrity Michelle demonstrated. My husband and I actually retained Michelle for a consumer complaint we filed. We were so impressed with her that when that was settled we also retained her for a probate dispute. She was never to busy to answer any questions we had, or to listen to any ideas. I have heard lots and lots of lawyer jokes in my life.......NONE of them pertain to Michelle. I would, and I have recommended her without any hesitation to family or friends.

Michelle was appointed to me via YWCA in a Domestic Violence Protection Order case that included a minor child. Michelle was able to establish the first & most important part of our journey in escaping our abuser for the long-haul. This case is still being referred to by many local lawyers, & professionals not only for the hopeful finality of making sure that our lives are going to free from abuse, but for others as well due to the nature of our case. She was able to help protect us & begin to heal. She is absolutely the most professional, & best attorney anyone who is in such a terrible situation could have ever dreamed of. I also must say she is also one of my favorite people, & I have since been working towards working with organizations like she formally has to help others. She’s one of my personal hero’s and a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom! She will go to any length to see that justice is going to prevail! I would recommend Michelle to ANYONE, especially if you want a fierce attorney who isn’t afraid of a challenge! She is someone that the legal community needs more of, & deserves absolutely top recognition for her work! She’s amazing, both as a attorney, mentor & support when you’re facing the worst situation imaginable. I cannot thank her enough, and I hope to see her be recognized for her selfless work and service, especially for women’s rights & protection for abuse victims.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
