My husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma and we reached out to Kaitlin to represent us, we are so grateful we did. Kaitlin not only knows everything about asbestos law, but she was the most caring attorney we've dealt with. This was a difficult time for us, but Kaitlin made us feel we could leave it up to her.

Gary guided the corporate formation for both of our startup cosmetics ventures. We've grown fast, and Gary has kept up the pace either providing counsel directly, or by quickly finding the best specialist resources within his firm. No matter what issues confront us - IP, fraud, digital crisis response, executive employment agreements, option plan setup, real estate leases, IP licensing - we feel confident that Gary will help us navigate with confidence that we've got the best legal advise possible.

As part of a leadership team building a high-tech startup company, I've been confronted with a variety of situations requiring timely, savvy legal perspective. Cy Hersch has been absolutely key to my company making smart decisions in the face of such complexity. Cy has impressed me with many attributes over the course of the past year's work. Beyond his obvious mastery of the law, Cy has tremendous patience and a breadth of ability to understand the technical challenges associated with my business. What I find particularly helpful is Cy's ability to assimliate the technical issues with the underpinning legal points . Consequently, Cy provides me well thought-out suggested courses of action and keen assessment of risk...all with a tremendously pleaseant demeanor and can-do attitude. I could not guide our fledgling company to viabilty and success without Cy! He is a superiour attorney and advisor. If your organization needs superb counsel and professionalism, you cannot do better than Cy Hersch!

I found Caitlin to be honest and transparent while representing me in my highly combative and emotionally charged relocation trial. She was professional, thorough with her research, and was always prepared with a backup plan, and a back up plan to the back up plan. Caitlin and her team were prompt in responding to my emails, and all court filings helping to keep the process moving forward. She listened to me and was sensitive to my position and understood my fears. I highly recommend her and her team and am thankful I worked with them.

Eric W. Ferguson took two personal injury cases I couldn’t get other attorneys to touch, and won them both, for quite fair settlements. I was referred to him by a friend of a friend, who had a similarly successful experience. I found Eric to be personable, a straight shooter, honest, with a sense of humor. He’s a younger attorney than some, and in that early career stage where he’s still accessible, and not just chasing the huge dollar, big cases. The two cases: #1: Behind an espresso establishment, my left foot rolled off the edge of a small paver, which had been set unevenly, in a path across a bark area. My fifth metatarsal snapped. I’m in my sixties. It took four months for the thing to heal. That was in 2010. A downtown attorney told me there wasn’t a case. Eric took it and negotiated a respectable settlement from the property management company’s insurance agency. #2: My truck was tail-ended on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, in 2011. The driver pulled a hit-and-run, but I had his license number. Damage to my truck was minimal, but the impact caused my post-surgery lower back problems to make my left foot numb. Again, other attorneys I talked to weren’t optimistic about me having a case. Evidence and medical bills were small, but Eric negotiated a settlement from the other driver’s insurance company.

Russell has assisted me with several patent applications over the past 8 years. Unlike many lawyers Russ is personable as well as skilled. He has a masters degree in electrical engineering. He handles technical applications as well as mechanically oriented. I haven't needed Russ for an infringement case but I hear he is excellent in the courtroom as well.

Having filed patents with more than 10 different patent attorneys over the years, I must say that Ben is without a doubt THE BEST I have worked with! He and I have worked together now on 8 separate applications in the space of biotechnology and software. Ben is remarkable in his ability and willingness to understanding new technologies at the deepest levels and is able to provide real insight into how best to generalize and protect the ideas. He puts in the extra effort and does background research necessary to bring himself to the level of expert in the field and then is able to fill in many of the gaps needed to build out a truly robust application. He asks the right questions and is very good at addressing ambiguity. His writing style makes the final applications an absolute pleasure to read with clear, pedagogical presentation of concepts and great strategic flow. The idea often ends up way better than when it started and I end up thinking, "Wow!". I can't recommend Ben highly enough!!

My best friend had a super old DUI conviction she was trying to take care of. This one was a little bit outside the norm as it had was 14yrs old and Susan pulled out all the stops. She researched the heck out of the old case law and really fought to get the best result she could for my friend. Lets just say that she did more than the 4K lawyer I had a few years ago. In short if I ever needed a fierce public defender I would request Susan. I am in shock i am the only review here. She went above and beyond and for a public defender she should get an award!

An honest lawyer here! I had an extended exploration call with this attorney, I would high recommend this attorney for his fields of expertise. Instead of wasting the client's time, he quickly hit the key points of consideration and pointed out the uncertainties. He's very cautious about not making claims and assurance that my case is sound or not, but gave very credible guidelines. We had a very informative conversation, and he sounded like really knowledgable about the general areas of civil litigation in WA state. I appreciate his breadth of knowledge, candidness, and just straight forward honesty! Though he decided that my case is not a good match for him, I would not hesitate to work with him should I have a future need that match his area of practice.

I would definitely hire William again. I had an excellent experience with him and KSB Litigation. He was always professional, responsive, and insightful. In my first conversation with him, I could tell he had heard and understood the gravity of my concerns and was extremely intelligent. He understood and clarified my goals, provided good counsel and advice, and had a clear grasp on the law as well as the strengths and weaknesses of my case. As an attorney myself, I have high expectations for other attorneys, and he definitely met them. I knew I could trust his advice, skills, and advocacy. Highly recommend.

I am indescribably grateful to Mr.Salah for the effort and time he spent on my consultation. I don’t know that anyone can imagine my level of stress before working with Mr.Salah, he proved to be the attorney that no one can reasonably expect to find. He’s exceptionally knowledgeable, dedicated, and empathetic. I left my consultation with the feeling that I found a rock star to be on my side, and it turned out that was exactly the case.

I engaged Kay in 2016, at the recommendation of my manager, and she was superb with the labor law I needed with legal representation. I hired Kay again from about May 2018 to about May 2019. There were typos in some important documents and we were all catching up to the fact this employer wasn’t going to do anything right without going through its administrative process. I needed to scope Kay’s work to control for cost, which she thought was because I didn’t trust her. This was really unfortunate. She also reduced her schedule and increased her bill rate and my employer got a lot of mileage out of those typos. But at the end of the day I wish she hadn’t been upset that my scoping for budget was a sign of not trusting her. I’d have her back in a heartbeat. She’s that good. The firm hired to replace her - at half the cost - did not have the experience they claimed and I had to try another attorney or risk my statute of limitations. The third attorney was unethical. The only unethical attorney I’ve been exposed to.

I have used David K Hiscock's services several times over the past two decades. He has done wills for my wife and myself, for my mother and for friends. He represented my wife in a minor injury case about twenty years ago, and he helped me through the probate process when my mother passed away. He has always done this work excellently, reasonably and with a great sense of humor. Highly recommended!

I have known Mr. Brower since 1994...just prior to his writing the Washington State bar examine. Having over 40 years in the construction and real estate development industry (26 years in my own business) I've had the opportunity to work with dozens of attorneys. Mr. Brower tops the list as a real estate development attorney...supported by his prior education and experience as a planner. He's very conscientious about his professional responsibility...demonstrated continuously through his efforts to seek creative solutions; rather than a short cut pursuit of litigation. He never hesitates to go the extra mile in his research, exploring potential solutions and communicating with all parties. With Mr. Brower on our development team, I'm reassured that we're receiving the best legal advise and a keen interest in attaining the project goals. Given his positive contributions to our development projects...he'll be on our team for a long time.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
