This is not a lawyer you should trust to take care of your loved ones. He doesn't communicate with families and has poor judgement in providing a safe environment for his elderly clients. Mr. Parker placed my family member in an unsafe environment who required around the clock care, but did not receive it. Please reconsider any thoughts you have of asking him to represent you or your loved ones.

I consulted with Mr. Johns on work for Fidelity Information Services. Mr. Johns was very condescending and rude to the client. He called them "assholes" nearly every time we finished a call or visit with them. It was very unprofessional. I would be worried about his loyalty to clients in the future.

This attorney, a prosecuting attorney while appearing genuinely the point of being obsequious. Has been successful fooling many judges with his moral superiority and his concern for the defendants rights as well. The U.S. Attys Office is legendary for negligently not turning over what we know to be Brady material, in fact they go through great lengths to suppress it from the court. Normally, as a result of a vigorous defense lawyer, its discovered during the middle of trial. At that point the Judge normally says " Whats your complaint, you have it now ? Unfortunately that's not the law. Defense lawyers are entitled to any exculpatory evidence the moment the prosecution gets it, not once they threaten the witness with prosecution if he tells that version of the truth. Recently I was told that he was referred to Bar Counsel for throwing a disc across the courtroom and hitting an unwitting defense lawyer somewhere in her face. I could go on and on. Fortunately the cases I have had with him pled out. Now I wonder what, if anything was being hidden.

It has taken 20+ years to learn the deceptions Mr. Fredrickson used to profit from our representation. The settlement agreement is a forgery. Documents were not sought or produced. USC 5 2302 was knowing violated. A temporary respraing order was violated on the first day and Mr. Fredrickson failed to advise us properly as to our recourse in many matters. The evidence collected speaks poorly of Mr. Fredrickson's representation and underscores a relationship developed between this attorney and our opposition. Keep Your Distance.

I got a other than honorable discharge in 1993, Mrs. Guffey was my attorney at the time, because of the reason for the discharge Mrs. Guffey talked me into not appealing my cause, she said that they would not do anything for me. being young , and her being LTJG I agreed to the terms . I tryed to email her recently to see if she knew of anyone that could help me with this matter, and she will not acknowledge me at all. Im just wanting to get my discharged changed or try to. And why not go back to where it all started. I guess some things never change.

It would be great if Mark Carlin were the last lawyer on earth, but I wouldn't hire him even then. In my experience, there was nothing professional or artful about his work except how he could abuse the legal system and get away with it. He was a brazenly dishonest influence peddlar and used every dirty trick in the book, not in the best interest of his client, but to milk fees for himself. When I read he was a "lawyer's lawyer," that explained it all. Why is he no longer at the firm he founded?!

I hired this attorney to represent my son in a criminal case in which he was innocent in Pennsylvania. I was charged $37,000 by this attorney and the way he spoke to us, I've got to tell you he could sell boots to a fish. He neglected to subpoena the proper Witnesses, even after we had asked him to please bring my son's analyst and psychiatrist into the court. He assured me that my son was innocent and this was easy and he could handle it. When we got to court, attorney Raleigh by professional omission, failed to rebut or argue false accusations and even lies that were in written form on the psychiatrist's report, which would have exonerated my son and attorney Raleigh froze solid. Attorney Raleigh cost my son his life. He neglected to petition the proper Witnesses, stood silent during false accusations. My son realizing what was happening, spoke out in court on his own to the judge while attorney Raleigh tried to silence him. Thank God the judge listened to what my son had to say and reduced his unnecessary sentence considerably. After the hearing attorney Raleigh spoke to me privately on the way to his automobile and told me he was sorry and he would not object if we wanted to claim ineffective counsel. I am just a working guy, it took everything we had to hire this attorney so to start another hearing was financially impossible and my son continues to suffer. Although thanks to my son's own intuition he is a free man to a degree. I approached attorney Raleigh and he denied ever having that conversation with me before telling me that the company he is now with, after relocating his practice to Washington DC, would object to him assisting my son in what he himself, attorney Raleigh caused. I was once a believer of Truth and honor. Don't get caught in what we did.

After charging me $5,000, this guy refused to file a lawsuit on my behalf which is exactly what I told him I wanted at our initial "free" consultation session. The firm told me that I didn't have standing (suffered no harm). However, the DC Condo Act specifically states that people with complaints against their condo association just like mine DID, in fact, have standing for lawsuits. When I discovered this only on my own, I fired the firm for their obvious incompetence in their field. When I fired him, he withheld my entire retainer. He claimed that I had not paid him for the first bill he allegedly sent me. Of course, I paid him for the two following bills which I DID receive. The first bill that he sent me only after I fired him included our initial meeting which was supposed to be a free consultation. I have written (if I called him, he'd charge me against my retainer) him repeatedly to return the amount that he still owes me. But he never responded.

Title says it all. I called this attorney after a proceeding. He said that he was at the office Christmas party and would get back to me. I kept leaving messages for 1 1/2 YEARS. His assistant then told me Schaffer left the practice!!! Where did my many messages end up? My case files, I was later told 5 MONTHS after the 1 1/2 year shocker, went to the Basement. Here I am over 5 years after that Christmas office party call with an open case. I 've left pleading messages with assistant (who worked w/for over 25 years) to have him contact me. NADA. If a doctor did this? My case was assigned (? when 2012,2013,2014), to a new law grad who got his DC license in 2013. No one at the firm or Mark Schaffer wil tell me when the case was transfered, or what options I had even though Schaffer got paid ,then disappeared without finishing the job. This is a truly sad reflection of how a person can walk away after getting paid before a job is completed. To live into the 60's and not care whose lives you destroy. SHAME on you.

I retained this attorney on an hourly basis not knowing he would need to work my employment discrimination case for over a decade. Although he was successful in the Federal District and Appeals courts, he failed to settle my case after 10 years of work including over a year in mediation and withdrew from my unsettled case and left me to continue my case ProSe. Then he had the audacity to file a lien on my settled case in the Federal District to get paid before I received my settlement payment. the district court judge denied his claim. Since I received payment he has filed numerous frivolous lawsuits in three courts (Federal District and Appeals Courts and the District of Columbia Superior Court). He badgered me during my deposition to sobbing tears. In my opinion he lacks intergrity and is a bully. I have a pending DC BAR complaint for his unethical and unprofessional conduct in my case. I would not recommend hiring this attorney unless you are seeking a decade long case on an hourly rate and want to be treated unethically, unprofessionally and bullied for his paid services.

David F. Nickel, after a 5000.00 deposit never showed up to the court date arranged by him. He then billed me for the court date he never even attended! After some time he managed to get another date and I trusted he would not let me down. He then showed up an hour late smelling like alcohol and looking like he just rolled out of bed, missing our appointed time yet again! I lost my case and had to hire another lawyer. The icing on the cake? I lost my 5k and David F. Nickel and his company are still billing me!

Contacted Ms. Vargas who agreed to review our case. We emailed records and sent by mail additional records at her request. Ms. Vargas said she would review and then we would discuss by phone. We didn't hear back from her and I contacted her by email one week later. She responded that she hadn't had time to look at the records and stated, "I won't ghost you". Two and a half months later, we hadn't heard from her again and recontacted her. This time she didn't remember getting any records and had to check with the office staff. Pressed her for an answer and all we got was she wasn't going to pursue the case "at this time". It would have been very helpful at least to know the reason why and we still don't know why. It would have been nice if she had done what she said she was going to do and 1.) Looked at the case and gotten back to us with an answer and 2.) not ghosted us. Very disappointed in this attorney.

My brother and I were abused by a priest in the Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Feinberg's law offices handled the fund set up by the diocese of Scranton to compensate victims of the abuse. I sent in my packet, and I was denied for lack of proper proof. I called up and spoke to Camille Biros who works at Feinberg's law firm. I was pretty upset because I had to fill out all this paperwork, and I had to relive all my abuse all over again. The abuse happened around 1983 or 84, I am not 100 percent sure because I was very young at the time. I was around 3 or 4. Well, to make a long story short, their law firm was very abusive to me on the phone. I felt like I was being victimized all over again and that I was a criminal, when in fact, the diocese hired them to deal with us victims of abuse. I asked the lawyers at the firm what I needed, and they said that I need counseling records. I contacted my therapist and got everything I needed, and I never heard back from them. I actually sent their law firm a bunch of emails to see if they received my therapist's letter to them on my behalf, and they ignored me for weeks. When I finally got in touch with them, I was told I was denied for claim. No reason why, just denied me. I have and had more than enough proof to make my claim, but they were rude, unprofessional, and they did not do their job. I never felt so disrespected in my life, not to mention, humiliated and pained about having to relive the mental anguish of my abuse on paper. They ignored my pleas to contact the district attorney, or witnesses on my behalf. The bottom line is this: they didn't do their jobs. I now hired a real attorney, and we plan on filing suit against the diocese. But all the money in world will never make me forget what they did to me. I am sorry I ever went to Mr. Feinberg's firm. Stay clear of these people if you can.

I contacted Mr McLaurin about possibly representing me in a Chapter 13 I filed in Maryland. This was then in order to save my house. Mr McLaurin charged me $1500 for the retainer. He suggested that since all of my other payments were current that he would help me get a modification on my home loan. When I went to the Bankruptcy hearing with the court, nobody from Mr McLaurins firm showed up. That was the first issue. The courts eventually dismissed the case without prejudice. The second issue was I wrote a letter as instructed my Mr McLaurin informing them he was representing him and any attempts to collect a debt would go thru him. The bank tried for MONTHS to contact Mr McLaurin and never had a call returned, all the while making attempts to foreclose on my house. I called me Mr McLaurin to no avail so I went and dropped in. This man acted like he had never seen me in my life. Luckily for me I had the retainer saying he represented me. Mr McLaurin then placed a call to the bank in front of me. This guy is a charlatan at best. He began talking some mumbo jumbo about the president created programs to help homeowners. The representative for my lender informed him they were trying to call him for 3 months and received no response thereby putting my home in danger of foreclosure. He claimed someone contacted him about saving my home "a Caucasian lady" and could not provide a name. The representative told me as he was talking that they would deal directly with me and not him and hung up the phone. Now here is where it gets REALLY interesting. Mr McLaurin fixed his mouth to tell me that in order to continue representing me that he would require another $1500 retainer to "continue on with my case". My mouth dropped. This man had done NOTHING on my case. So I asked him to give me the billable hours related to my case and he HAND WROTE IT. This guy should not be allowed to practice. I would not suggest him to anyone.

I ended my relationship with him feeling worse then when I started and in a worse legal and financial situation. He showed up to court at the last minute, making me feel alone and unsupported. He showed up to an online zoom arbitration with a professional mediator in a sweatshirt, which I thought looked sloppy and unprofessional. He yelled at me for being upset that a legal decision went against me, making me feel shamed and judged for feeling upset in very stressful circumstances. I tried to put the whole affair behind me, so we settled my account, I paid a final bill and tried to focus on moving forward. I was unfortunately contacted after we ended our relationship and he told me that he "forgot" to send me a bill that I had to pay.

Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:

If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
