I cannot speak highly enough of her expertise, professionalism, and compassionate approach. From the moment I began speaking with Shannon, I knew I was in capable hands. Shannon possesses a unique ability to empathize with her clients while educating them about the complexities of the legal process. Unlike other attorneys, Shannon goes above and beyond to ensure her clients fully understand their rights and options, making informed decisions with confidence. Her wealth of knowledge and top-tier professionalism are truly remarkable. Shannon was able to set realistic expectations for my case while instilling in me a sense of confidence and assurance. Despite the challenges of navigating the family court system, Shannon's guidance and support served as a beacon of hope during what can often be a daunting and emotionally taxing experience. In a system that can sometimes feel overwhelming and intimidating, Shannon shines as a bright light of positivity and reassurance. Her unwavering dedication to her clients' well-being is evident in every interaction, and I am immensely grateful to her. Working with Shannon DeBiase has been nothing short of amazing, and I cannot thank her enough for her outstanding advocacy and support throughout my legal journey. Avoid at all costs. I had the misfortune of using an attorney from this firm. They over charge, and then proceeded to do the bare minimum. In court they are too passive letting the other side have their way resulting in my child suffering as a result. Do not let your family suffer. Update: my attorney from this firm contacted me about my review. They stated that their poor work was intended to save me money. I never asked for that.

I hired him before on a different case. I filed bankruptcy. I owed money to someone he knew and he called me angry about the debt. He asking me why I did that. I told him I had to file bankruptcy. Later he called me to his house to help him with something. And that's when it happened. His dog attacked me at his house in Woodland Hills and he's acted like it didn't happen. His two daughters were sitting on the couch and watched the whole thing happen. All they did was laugh. When I was on the ground in pain, he asked, wasn't it your birthday yestoday? And I said yes and he said Happy Birthday. In court they awarded me $50,000 pain and suffering but nothing for my medical. My medical bills were over $50,000. I ended up with nothing but pain. He's a true gangster.

My husband was on probation and was subject to "probation sweeps" by LAPD periodically. During a sweep, LAPD tried to fabricate a case against my husband because they found 2 bullets buried in a pile of dirt, junk and crap in our garage that we had no idea was there. They arrested him and were trying to give him 2 years in prison. I knew if I allowed the public defender to continue representing my husband, he would be sent to jail for a crime he did not commit. I called Todd Melnik and he met with me that evening and I explained the situation. He instantly went to work while I was sitting in his office, making phone calls and gathering info. He is very kind, patient, and always has a smile. He returns phone calls and emails very quickly, and always takes your concerns seriously. He was very accommodating with his fee, which is also extremely reasonable. Todd was able to have the ridiculous case dismissed during the preliminary hearing.

My experience with Todd Melnik was wonderful! From the very first appt, Todd made me feel comfortable starting with his warm and caring attitude. I was very impressed with how my case was handled. And in the court I was not even asked a question due to the work that Todd Melnik had put into this case. He was easy to get a hold of and very informative. If I ever need another criminal attorney I will not think twice before calling him. I highly recommend Todd Melnik to anyone who requires legal representation.

A person does not have complete information, both professionally and in terms of the political situation of the country from which the potential client came. But then there is a certain familiarity in communication and the imposition of their own vision of the situation. This is due to the fact that a person who even receives a license in the United States and receives all the benefits of this country does not integrate into this country. And he continues to have some civilizational delusions. There is general information gleaned from the TV. In this sense, entrusting my case is risky. I do not recommend it. This is my subjective judgment.

Bonnie is Semi retired and running a small home office. She prepares some Wills and basic documents but she is overall pretty ignorant about probate law. I hired Bonnie and many of the questions regarding my case were unanswered, she said she would get back to me later on the questions but she never did. I needed help on State planning but Bonnie turned out to be un dedicated to Law. She works from home and most days she has no help or staff making everything slower to process when she is charging over $450/hour.

Bonnie Braiker-Gordon was a god-send for my wife and I. My mother-in-law passed away almost immediately after my father-in-law, and there was no provision in the meantime for financial controls and home ownership, as my mother-in-law had severe Alzheimer's and my father-in-law failed to change his will to reflect things such as home ownership, etc. With Bonnie's amazing help, we were able to declare my mother-in-law a ward of my wife and ownership of the home and all property as well as the control of my mother-in-laws welfare was granted to my wife as well. Bonnie did a fast and efficient job of convincing the court (rightly) that her parents would have wanted their home to be in her control, and not go to the state as a way to pay for her medical treatments. I cannot recommend Bonnie highly enough, as she and her team helped expedite a very difficult (and emotional) situation for us and did it with care and concern.

Can't be specific because of confidentiality clauses. I wasn't impressed at all with him. Seems like an okay guy, but didn't feel like a great attorney. I hope I never need a lawyer again, but if I do, it won't be him. When I worked with him he wasn't with the McCormack Law Firm. I think he has moved.

This lawyer was hired and paid by reviewer to do a Will and Trust, I was convinced to have a Trust written, which I did, the attorney says to me that I bragged about I have this and I have that, but yet she was writing a Trust, so I had to tell her what I had to protect, the attorney appears to make everything personal, the attorney made a huge error on my Will with the pain section, which honestly I thought was intentional at the time, and had my state of residence wrong on first draft, much was left out of the Trust and a few of my Banks did not accept it, she had not response to that, this attorney has more then once called and yelled on the phone

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
