I went to this man for help and he totally screwed me. I met him at his house I was his exterminator. He offered to help me when ever I needed legal help from him and when I went looking for his help years later he totally screwed me. He was suppose to help me file a restraining order against a government agency, instead he had me sign a document with my social security # on it, then he manipulated the situation so that I could forget about my copy. However I remembered to ask him for it and he played the fool and said he was going send it to me and all this other garbage and til this day He has not given me my copy. What I agreed to I do not know, he could have given himself the rights to my business, who knows. Now I have to go through all this trouble of notifying the California BAR Association, and so on. This old man seems nice but he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Stay away or don't forget your copy, get it right away and don't believe anything he says as to why he can't immediately give you a copy; "printer not working", "he's busy" and so on.

RUN. Whatever you do DO NOT hire this guy. Incompetence is what he majored in. He mishandled my case, refused to advise me about major components of my case. Then stopped taking my appointments and calls once the case was settled. Major disappointment. If you hire this guy after all these warnings then the results are on you.

This attorney and his staff are horrible at taking care of urgent and time sensative matters and never call back when they advise they will. There is no ugency with this staff and unfortunately the attorney seems liek he is more interested in a quick open and shut claim for the quick dollar rather than prepare for a long dog fight that most of these WC cases demand. I do not suggest ANYONE use this attorney and I feel he should close his doors to prevent anyone being fooled and having the case ruined because of untimely responses

I have to do all the research... he don't inform, is not getting back if there are any questions, his paralegal stuff don't know how to handle the paperwork in timely manner, don't take notes about conversations you have regarding your caes.... and so on.... If you choose this firm , don't be surprised if your case get dismissed and you get nothing...I consulted a different Lawyer to switch...and he answered me " Sorry nothing I can do for you, you should have come earlier to me."

Don’t waste your time and money with this pos. He is so arrogant and mean spirited it’s not even funny. If he wins cases then fine, I’d deal with his behavior. However he is not only lazy but he LOSES! If you hire this garbage as your lawyer your case will go down the drain hole and there is no coming back from it. I regret ever having to come in contact with him and wish I would’ve hired a qualified and respectable person from the start. Truly a nightmare to work with!!!

I hired Attorney Sohaila Sagheb and was told I had a strong dental malpractice case, but my experience with her was bad. I gave her important medical records in a sealed envelope, but they were still unopened over a year later. She didn’t subpoena critical dental records from other doctors to supportmy case, and didn’t press for missing records from the doctor who messed up my teeth. She never hired the expert she said she would. She didn't pursue liability, ignored evidence that the doctor caused damage and didn’t treat the infection. After pushing me to accept a settlement that wouldn't even cover my dental repair, she said she would fight if I didn’t like the offer, but abruptly withdrew from my case when I declined the settlement. She became very rude and wouldn’t look at proof of the infection she said I didn’t have. I later learned the maximum settlement was much lower than what she said was possible without liability. I've been left with ongoing dental issues, significant expenses, and a bad legal experience. I would tell anyone considering legal services to go somewhere else!

I hired Andy as a Real Estate Attorney and he failed to tell me that I may be insured for my defense costs. When I found out, we were already thousands of dollars into the case. He did not offer to lower his fee when my insurance company accepted defense. This case was about an easement and Andy never drove out to see the property, even though I asked him several times. My house was actually on his way home from his office. But he did not do his due diligence, yet entered me into an expensive, and restrictive settlement agreement. He missed the filing date on a TRO and was NOT knowledgeable in real estate matters. He basically volleyed emails to the opposition, rather than trying to find a resolution to my problem. He is not thorough. I actually did a lot of Googling and found some important information, which we incorporated into my case, because he really didn't seem to care about permanently solving my problem. I've since then, found out, that I had several remedies to my problem. Andy never suggested any of them, because he probably is not well versed in real estate matters. I highly DO NOT recommend him because I've basically gotten no where with him handling my case.

Attorney Montgomery is an attorney I would never use again or refer. She never returns calls, she doesn't hit important deadlines, she has too many things going on at once. She is never there when she says she will be there. Never once did I sit with her over 30 min. for the settlement of a 26 year marriage. She claims she works hard on your case, but she gives you everything to you to do so she doesn't have to spend time on the case. When told not to entertain calls from ex-wife, she did. She was an under performer for the money I gave her. After many months of back in forth with her, I went pro-per and had another attorney help clean up her mess. The last day I had an appointment with her, but her husband "an attorney" threaten not to give me my files after I was suppose to meet with her to sign them and she wasn't there when I got to her office. I asked him where she was at because I had a few questions and he said she's gone and I am taking care of it now. He said I was rude and threaten to call Police/911 because I wanted to speak with her before signing the docs. I needed the docs that day for the ex-wifes attorney deadline. I was forced to sign the docs, but have never forgot how horrible they made a paying client feel and the treatment from a so called "Attorney at Law".

Waste of money and time. This attorney didn’t send me an itemized bill for months and kept my remaining funds. He incorrectly prepared necessary court documents as per other attorney and opposing attorney. Had to teach this Family law specialist, for 6 hours on my dime, about the California healthcare system . He uses a relic of a computer and sends files that I cannot even open. Wasted time coming up with strategies that never made sense for my case.

My rating to this lawyer is 0. Not a very good one ! Very temperamental ! Not very supportive, just because he's been a trial lawyer for 30 years doesn't mean he's right on everything he does. Failed to study and research more on the case before trial, i.e., evidence should have been strongly studied upon and presented to jury aggressively. Poorly representation.

Next we are filing with the California Bar Association so everyone can be forewarned about this AWFUL LAWYER She was unprepared and rude to the Judge in Small Claims court by telling him "its only small claims" The Judge showed her!!!!!!!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
