My parents lived in Sierra Vista. I live out of state. My parents had a living trust and a will. The living trust made it so easy to settle much of their estate. Unfortunately, there are a few out of state assets that they did not transfer to the trust. I spoke to Mr. Robert Way yesterday and he indicated that I actually would be better served by contacting an attorney in the states where the other assets are located. Refreshing to get that kind of honesty in today's world. If I lived in Arizona, I would definitely use his services for anything he would be willing to handle.

I am in a difficult situation with an employer i have been employed by for almost 2 decades. They were awesome until l recently had more health issues and tried at every opportunity to punish me for it even in violation of the law. Chris really helped me understand my options. Knowing my rights and his understanding of the law has helped ease some of the stress from disability discrimination and a hostile work environment. Thank you Chris.

I got stuck with this scheister lawyer when I filed a motion for a change of counsel and was met with consent verbal condescending, chastising abuse during our calls. He said, the reason you got me was because, you had issues with other attorneys. My other court appointed attorneys screwed me over by not getting my phone where I had evidence to clear my charges and circumvent me to take a plea. When I realize it would ruin my life, she would not undo the plea which I found too late I could have. Another Lawyer, dumped me off on her investigator who told me the system was not fair. That women got away with ruining your life. How they lost a really strong case. If I did not trust them, to get another team. He says, obvious they did and they withdrew and I got appointed." No, I motion the courts three weeks before my previous attorney withdrew and had to remind her to withdraw from my case. Kyle patronizes me saying, I have been doing post-conviction relief for eight years, nine years, something like that.' You are the first client to call me to know about your case two days after I gotten it. "This is not my first rodeo." So, my case is like a circus or a rodeo to him. When I ask questions about my charges he said, “If you have a problem with the classifications an offense, take it up with legislator. Don't take it up with me.” I get ridiculed for calling him first. He had my case for a month and he did nothing. I motion the court again and was denied and stuck with him. My previous team had an investigator who were going to look into other angles for my case. He refused to get one. I had a free consultation from another attorney which I could not afford who told me all my lawyers were giving me in effective council and all Kyle did was read the report and replied he saw nothing wrong. However, he said, if I did not sign a plea, you would have won at trial. Kyle put in no effort in my case and was vindictive not to withdraw and the courts made me stay with him I was not able to represent myself. I am glad I am the second person in a month who has submitted a negative review on Kyle Green and others will come forward.

I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know what information is relevant, what needs to be substantiated with evidence, or how I’m allowed to communicate in a courtroom under these pretenses. That’s why I hired an attorney. I was assaulted by a man who lied to me about his identity. His true identity revealed that he is the author of a book that advocates for the assault of women. Obviously had I known that, I never would have gone out with him. There was an extreme amount of manipulation that followed the assault. The incident culminated with an altercation at my gym that prompted me to file a restraining order, which I was granted. I hired Kyle when the order was challenged. I filed a case against this man with the local police. What I had to say was compelling enough that an undercover detective showed up to the hearing. I got a delayed start to working with Kyle because his team couldn't even be bothered to ensure they put the correct name on the contract. Virtually no information was requested of me prior to the hearing. When asked about text communication I did tell him there wasn't much- my communication with my abuser was months ago and I didn't remember the full extent of our conversation. A prepared attorney would have asked to see the texts anyway- the burden of proof is on the filer and he had literally nothing else to do to prepare. When we got to the courtroom I noticed my witness wasn’t there, so I called him. He explained that Kyle told him he was going to confirm with him and that that didn't happen. Regardless of who’s error it was, I asked if he needed to come and Kyle said no. The hearing started very late and he lives right next to the courthouse and could have made it if I had insisted. I would have insisted had I known that I wouldn't be able to reference anything that happened at the gym that day without his testimony. I don’t understand why Kyle wouldn’t have communicated this to me knowing the impact it would have on my ability to address any part of that very scary event. The fact that my abuser lied to me about his identity is far from irrelevant. Mesa PD are the ones who informed me of this- I had no idea that I would need to provide a witness from Mesa PD about how I arrived at this information. The judge did not allow me to say a single word about this. This is procedural information Kyle would have known as an attorney. I failed to meet my burden of proof- or rather KYLE did. He failed to do his due diligence and look at the texts. He failed to connect with the witness, and failed to advise me appropriately when asked about whether the witness needed to come. He failed to provide evidence regarding the information I was given by the police on the true identity of my abuser, or to advise me appropriately The worst thing happened- the protective order was dropped. Had I been doing this on my own without Kyle’s council I would have taken the due diligence to research what was required of me and I would have shown up more prepared than I did with him by my side. I seriously doubt a detective would have been in that room on my behalf had my account really been that unreliable or outlandish. The outcome of that hearing obliterated any chance I'll ever have of justice for the sodomy I endured. It got much worse though, my abuser requested attorney fees and they were granted. Kyle decided it wasn’t important to communicate with me as his client before he challenged the order. I’m angry that he sent off the objection without so much as asking me about it or having me review the letter. Had he taken a single moment to talk to me, he would have known that I spent most of last year on unemployment, as I was forced to restructure my business. He completely failed to represent my interests, as he took zero time to understand

This is my third encounter with an attorney over two different issues in the last 4 years. Deb is what I had expected! Old School, really wants to do the right thing instead of the old 'churn-and-burn' retainer methodology. I will be sending everyone I know to Deb and will absolutely user her in the future. I was referred to Steve's firm by another firm that handled my divorce. I had a difficult (well I thought it would be) issue with a commercial contract and an investment account and a breach which locked up everything I had. Steve went through everything with me then took a few days before coming back with a great solution which meant we didn't even go to court. Would definitely recommend if you have a complex case.

Wow all these reviews are literally like they have friends posting them for the firm’s benefit. You gotta read between the lines and you can see she’s a fake and working with the prosecutor and judge to get you the same sentence you’d get taking it to trial. If you value your time and money you have better luck paying $400 for a public pretender. Take my advice and others that are hidden and stay away from this firm. She’ll drag it on forever and make it seem like she’s really working for you and come to find out she hasn’t lifted a single finger in your case. Absolutely ridiculous and recommending others to report her to the state bar! Oh and by the way her suckratary offered me $100 off my payments to leave a “good and honest” review for her on google! Can I get that $8k back Christy?

Steve Sherick is the exact attorney you hope for when you find yourself in need of legal services. If it is your first time in need of a lawyer you are probably scrolling the internet, asking friends, and sorting through mixed reviews. I've had a lot of lawyers and Steve Sherick is a standout. Steve represented me in the last lap of a very high stakes and high profile criminal case. After our first meeting all I could think was "Why didn't I find him to be my lawyer in the first place?" I knew in that moment, things would have gone differently if he had been representing me from the gate. Steve is smart, fair, creative and to the point. I was admittedly a difficult client in many ways. Steve made me look in the mirror and at the facts, so together we could do what was best for me in the long run. When your freedom or finances are at stake its hard to think clearly for yourself. Steve will think for you and ensure the decisions you make are the one's in your ultimate best interest. Steve was also kind and communicative to my family. This is a part of "lawyering" that may seem insignificant but makes a huge difference. Since the conclusion of my case, whenever I need a document from my file or have a question, Steve and his staff don't hesitate to provide me what I needed quickly. Steve Shericks "after care" is just another thing that sets him apart. I truly can not recommend Steve enough. By the end of my case, I came to think of him as a friend. He's just a GOOD lawyer that defies the industry's stereotypes. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Steve.

Unethical scam artists that regularly get disbarred and only care about billable hour$. If you’re not racking up hour$, even after telling them about your budget, they’ll drop you right before trial and leave you unrepresented. Need your files? Too bad, pay your ransom. They schedule appointments against your will and charge you anyways, even after telling them you didn’t agree to it. They’ll backpay themselves when you weren’t represented by them and chit chat about the weather to bloat the hour$. They’ll also whisper into their recording device “No client-attorney privilege”, before asking questions around other unknown people, outside of their office. Don’t like that? Go unrepresented or write a blank check.

When I first hired Keith for my family law case, it was clear he can be a brilliant attorney if he chooses to be. However in my case he was lazy and disinterested. He had the ability to help me and he chose not to for whatever reason. My overall impression is that he is arrogant and patronizing and it’s hit or miss whether he will take an interest in your case or not. Unfortunately for me I wasted thousands before I realized he simply didn’t care.

Taylor advised me at our first meeting to take the money I was going to pay him and use it to settle with the opposing side citing the superior courts findings were too damning to win in the appellate court. Once he realized this was not going to happen he came up with a plan explaining the possible outcomes (good and mostly bad). After 3 years he prevailed in the appellate court. Great communications, highly skilled and very responsive. Could not give a higher recommendation.

I contacted Mr. Taylor Young to provide both consulting & representation for an Appeals case. After leaving him a voicemail, he surprisingly called me back 30-mins later. We spent about 20-mins on the phone discussing my case, in which I followed up sending him a copy of my recent Order. He told me that he would get back to me within 3-days, yet after 5-days he had not followed up. At that time, I followed up again via sending him an email and phone call. Three days go by, and still no response. After Mr. Taylor lead me to believe that I had a strong appeals case that he would be able to represent me on, to this day, which is 4-months later, I have never heard back from him. Not even a courtesy email or voicemail stating that he had something come up or was unable to represent me due to his workload. Considering you only have 30-days to file an appeals, to have an attorney never contact you, let alone a client have to wait 5-10 days to realize that he isn't going to follow up, is detrimental to your ability to provide another professional attorney ample time to review and draft your appeals motion. I highly recommend not wasting your time, nor money dealing with Mr. Taylor's egotistic and arrogant attitude.

Scott knows his real estate law but I found it very frustrating that the communication was weak. After the first hearing which we were told that he would let us know the results immediately after he was out of the court ... we had to call multiple times (5 to 7 times) including calling mid day just to be told he was out to lunch...we would have appreciated if he had taken two minutes to let us know the results so we could have had more time during the day to prepare for the trial. I am a "communication" type person so the lack of direct communication from Scott and his not explaining the process in detail and waiting till the last minute at the trial proceeding to tell us what could happen left us at a disadvantage. We had given him all the documents he needed to win and he would have won but he said it was better to settle. However, he was also dealing with a very unethical tenant who was lying and his equally unethical and lying attorney. Scott on the other hand is ethical and honest so I would recommend using him. Despite these issues we were satisfied with the end result.

Scott seems to be doing a good job against a very unethical tenant who lies and although he has broken the lease terms fat Tim refuses to move. Makes me not want to rent ever again but I know good people are out there and I just got a rotten apple. Combine this tenant with his lying daughter and I am just hoping that Scott will be able to expose the fact that they are dishonest people and the truth will prevail in court. Unethical and inappropriate behavior. My time was completely wasted with an attorney who knew nothing about what he was hired for and after hiring him, he completely changed, I thought he was representing the people we were going after, I couldn't tell. When addressing it with his managing attorney, he was distasteful as well. I'm glad its over.

Most places wont even bother going the extra step to help out. Although my case was not something they could help with the amount of feedback and customer service was great. I would definitely consider hiring one of their attorneys based on the response and willingness to help I received. Speaks volumes. Thank you!

Zero stars would be better. William Oleary What a money, sucking, scumbag. He had me and my wife jump through all these hoops, get all this paperwork, and pay all this money, because of an issue with Yavapai county land development. Less than one month before we’re supposed to go to court with the county, he decides he Doesn’t wanna represent us because he doesn’t have enough time. Took our money, wasted our time, now I have to try to find another attorney to pick up the case involving Yavapai county less than 30 days for court. 🖕🏼 🖕🏼🖕🏼

Tom saved my life and protected myself and my child. HE IS THE BEST! It was my first time fighting in court. I was scared and lost. Tom gave good support and straight forward directions. The only thing I had a problem with is his response time back to me sometimes. Later learning it was my impatience. Also to save me money and both of us from nonsense time. Due to me over asking questions stemming from fear and anxiety. Questions that were answered in dew time. We were up against another tough lawyer. Tom stood strong, tough, firm, honest and confident. When I thought Tom was quiet in his responses to me. He truly was hearing me. When it came to time in court. Those little concerns were blasted right back at apposing council. Ammo I didn't even expect due to my naiveness. He fought toughly for me 100%. I received everything I was asking for, with a few compromises. He worked with me on payments that I could afford. I would highly recommend Tom and would use him again! He truly saved mine and my child's life! Thank you Tom!

I had Tom to represent my case during my complicated divorce and child custody. My case lasted longer than expected. He explained to me the family law clearly and he understood my situation. As I went through my divorce, I had tendencies to become subjective and wished the law could grant everything I desired. Tom was very objective in discussing to me what is possible and not possible according to the law. I went through with the process of my divorce not with a very clear understanding of what I can have and what I can not have and Tom was always there to explain to me whys of the process. He was very clear to explain to me that there was no guarantee that I will get what I wanted but the guarantee was he would do his best to get me and my son what is fair and he DID. My divorce and my child custody was done and I did not get what I wanted but I did have what is fair. I also had a clear understanding of why things work that way because Tom had educated me along the process. During the process, I also felt that I had somebody who truly care and would always be there to defend me and my son from the abuses. In the manner of communication, we did everything through email and only very minimal phone calls. However, I never felt that Tom and Tawsha missed to communicate with me. There was always an effective communication and when I was confused, I just sent an email and even if he was in vacation, I always got the answers from Tom or from his paralegal. I am forever grateful to Tom and Tawsha for guiding, educating and walking me through that very difficult and complicated process. I highly recommend Tom because he is the type of a lawyer who is very straight forward and realistic about his cases.

Thomas Alongi is a complete professional who is brilliant in his understanding and interpretation of family law. I came to him in a desperate state where a previous attorney had completely botched my case by untimely filings. My first encounter with Tom’s firm was a very compassionate and understanding conversation with his assistant/paralegal Tawsha. My case was complicated . I hired The Alongi firm at the eleventh hour. Tom was able to dissect and reconstruct years of information and get positive results in a short week. He kept me and my children safe from domestic violence and completely turned my nightmare situation into the results I desired. He and his staff have a deep and profound understanding of domestic violence and the Law. I could only say that my children’s lives and mine were protected through the courts only because of Tom Alongi’s just and fair way of dealing with a very complicated court system.

I needed to consult with an attorney on the usual practices regarding Workers Comp. due to having a newer business and finding myself in an unusual circumstance as an employer. Through seeking advice with Ms. Samet I became more acquainted with the technical terms in this area and the procedures. Ms. Samet gave several pointers to help guide me and reviewed several processes of what to expect. She expressed a great deal of enthusiasm and concern towards reviewing my matters and now feel more informed as an employer and have a peace of mind. I am thankful she took the time to address all my questions, gave me her full attention with a sense of care and had a supportive staff that seemed very driven and task oriented (I left my cell at their office and they immediately contacted me). From the time I arrived by being warmly greeted by a little dog that happened to be at the office that helped sooth my anxiety, to the warm, welcoming assistance and point of meeting Dee Dee who was very knowledgeable... My full experience at this law office through my consultation was definitely valuable. I was able to discuss many areas of workers comp that I was not familiar with and found Mrs. Samet to be very resourceful. This attorney used to represent employers in the past, however she now represents employees. This attorney has a vast amount of knowlege and wisdom through her long years of practice and experience.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
