I dont know what your situation is and im keeping my name hidden for privacy reasons but this guy isaac choy saved my life literally. At first i thought he wasnt doing his job but he was i was just too impatient. Its a slow process. Dont trick yourself being impatient. I had a case in 2019 and the only deal was 7 years 4 month and 4 felonies including a california strike. I got him as a panel attorney and he saved my life. Lets fast forward to sentencing. We did not file a romero motion and he got me 2 felonies no strike no prison time and a county year all of which i served on ankle monitor. I think i did about 88 days total in the main jail maybe less but that was prior to him actually starting the work on my case. In the beginning i felt like he was ignoring me but hes just like that. He works like that but he WAS working to help me and for me and i couldnt have asked for a better outcome or attorney. Let him work for you. Its going to take some time because theirs so many california cases. I hope your end result is as good as mine

I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding work Ryan did in helping me regain my security clearance. His expertise and dedication were evident from our first meeting, and he consistently went above and beyond to ensure a positive outcome. Ryan’s deep understanding of security clearance processes and his strategic approach to my case were instrumental in navigating the complexities involved. He meticulously prepared and presented a compelling case that highlighted my qualifications and commitment, addressing every concern with precision and clarity. Throughout the process, Ryan was always available to answer my questions, provide updates, and offer reassurance. His professionalism and clear communication made a stressful situation much more manageable, and I always felt confident knowing he was advocating on my behalf. Thanks to Ryan’s hard work and unwavering support, I am now able to continue my career without the burden of clearance issues. I highly recommend Ryan to anyone facing similar challenges. His expertise, dedication, and client-focused approach are truly exceptional. Thank you, Ryan, for your outstanding service and for making a significant positive impact on my career and future.

Big shoutout to BRITTANY FORRESTER for a heavy lift mitigating a security clearance matter on my behalf. She was extremely knowledgeable of the response process as a whole and took the time to understood the nuances of my circumstances. I appreciated how she explained the firm's workflow to me without sounding like a robot, then guided me through the process of obtaining the additional support and information necessary to adequately mitigate the matter. She has a keen eye for detail and is responsive, thorough, and technically astute. Lastly, I was undecided in the beginning about whether retaining an attorney for this matter was worthwhile, but the finished response/work product I received made a believer out of me. If you are wondering whether you should retain an attorney or not for your matter, let me tell you that doing so put my mind at ease such that I could sleep, and getting to the finish line was very manageable...certainly more so than it would have been on my own. Brittany Forrester--and Tully Rinckey as a whole--is a solid referral.

I had a very obscure issue between an employer plan and an individual policy in a foreign country. I spoke to many lawyers before getting to Lisa who had no idea what they were talking about. Lisa cut through all the issues and zeroed in on the applicable state law which ended up being great news for me. She basically ended a very stressful moment in our family's life.

My grandmother passed in June, she chose them for her attorney to handle her will. Not only did they get 2 out of the 4 siblings addresses wrong but it also took multiple attempts to get the address fixed. Not to mention when we reached out to get information about when the checks had been sent we were given a horrible explanation on top of all of us siblings being treated like idiots. We’re grieving the loss of our grandmother, there’s no reason to be told “I don’t know every case off the top of my head.” I wish I could give negative stars. The way they’ve handled everything has been horrible, with no explanation.

It is with profound respect and gratitude that I extend my heartfelt endorsement for Justin Walker, Jared Veliz, Lorrie Walker and the whole support team at Walker Law whose dedication, perseverance, and tireless advocacy have left an indelible mark on my life. Despite facing one of the largest corporations in the world, Justin and Jared stood resolute and fearless, embodying the very essence of bravery and commitment to justice. Throughout the legal proceedings, Jared and Justin demonstrated not only their exceptional legal acumen but also a deep sense of empathy and friendship that has greatly endeared them to me. Their readiness to confront formidable challenges and navigate complex legal landscapes was nothing short of inspiring. These are unique and special individuals—the kind of individuals you want with you in your foxhole during the most intense battles and scariest of times. Although the outcome was not entirely in our favor, the measure of their success is not merely found in the verdict, but in the relentless spirit and boundless energy they brought into advocating for me and my case. Their sacrifices, grit and devotion did not go unnoticed, and their steadfast dedication continues to resonate with me and all who have the privilege of knowing them. Justin, Jared and the whole Walker Law team are not just my attorneys; they have become my honored allies, friends and trusted advisors. Their profound commitment to their clients and the cause of justice makes them truly commendable and deserving of the highest praise. Before, during and after trial, Justin Walker displayed the most genuine and heartfelt concern for my well-being and the well-being of my family. He did so even when it would have been understandable, reasonable and justified to instead only focus on his own well-being or that of his team members and family. I love the individuals I’ve been privileged enough to spend time with during this journey. I thank God that Justin, Jared, Lorrie and their team have come into my life. I recommend Walker Law to anyone seeking the very highest level of legal expertise and advocacy. Their professionalism and integrity are exemplary, and they represent the best of what the legal profession has to offer.

Riccardo is hands down the best divorce attorney i have ever seen. He helped me quickly to get my divorce situated. Riccardo is extremely intelligent, he remembers details very well and calls the night before you go to court to make sure your ok and go over details, not many attorneys take the time and remember all details of your case. He has a very sharp memory. He’s very empathetic to medical issues. He is soft spoken but he absolutely gets the job done. i highly recommend him and will refer him to anyone that needs an excellent attorney because he cares about his clients and it’s nice because he builds trust and that’s very important during divorce issues

Horrible mismanagement of my family’s Trust for years. One that she wrote herself, amended multiple times, and even went to my grandfather on his deathbed to have him sign an amendment when he was not in a clear state of mind. When asked for an accounting, she stalled for 9 months and then all of a sudden, no longer represents the Trust or Trustee. This woman should have her bar revoked. She will steal your family’s money and do zero work that benefits anybody but herself.

Kathy Campbell is passionate about families. She stood by my side through a very long and contentious divorce; constantly trying to elevate the ordeal to civil. I felt stunned and wounded at every turn. Kathy was my shield, the best defender. She prepared me as best as she could for court proceedings and helped me understand the law. Kathy consistently and naturally conducts herself with respect and a high moral code. She always treated me as a priority and showed concern about my wellbeing and the wellbeing of my children. I initially hired Joe to handle my divorce because he advocated for minimizing conflict, and keeping expenses low by staying out of court. I deeply regret my decision to have him to represent me. Joe understands most of the basics of custody however the finer points are lost on him. He can’t tell you anything about custody evaluations, which are standard practice during divorce, because he advises against them and avoids them at all cost. He advised me to allow my ex wife to have sole custody of our son, despite my telling him I would never agree to that, saying it would cost less and I could easily win it back later. This was a critical mistake that has cost me more than it would have to litigate at the time and years of pain. He told me it could be changed for practically any reason, which is not true, and never told me how difficult it is to change an existing court order. My ex wife’s attorney easily outmaneuvered him. He doesn’t know the difference between a temporary custody order and a permanent one, and incorrectly argued in front of a judge for change in circumstances when the standard is much lower and that argument wasn’t necessary. Because he made that argument and lost that motion, what was a temporary custody order was found to be a permanent order by another judge. When in the courtroom he lacks the commanding presence or quick wit one would hope for. Joe doesn’t know anything about the judges he winds up in front of, for example that the judge we were assigned to has a reputation for not understanding family law and saying no to everything. We had one opportunity to change the assignment to another judge, which would have made all the difference on my first attempt to correct custody, but he didn’t seem to be aware of that process. Every other attorney I spoke with knew this. When we lost he chuckled and offered to appeal the decision for twenty thousand dollars. He skips things with procedural importance, for example didn’t properly serve the motion to modify custody, and didn’t go on record with the court as being my attorney, didn’t keep to the page limit requirement. Because of his lack of knowledge and skill, everything takes more than twice as long and ends up being twice as expensive, versus an attorney who bills $400 an hour. I only know this because I later hired a skilled attorney at $400 an hour, who charged me half what Joe did for the same motion. Joe has ruined my life and charged me for it. You would be better off representing yourself.

Working with Alice Graham was one of the most horrific experiences of my life. Wish I had read Stella B.'s review above before hiring Alice. Run, don't walk away from Alice Graham. As Stella B. writes before me she is: Just another lawyer that over bills and underdelivers. SO TRUE. Talks a big talk. She told me she was an "expert" on my issue. She always appeared to be afraid to speak with opposing counsel, just sent emails with mischaracterizations. A couple of phone calls could have completed my case in a few hours. She would send me drafts of documents to review. I corrected her mistakes. I would do so and then she'd type in my changes (and then going back with me again), thereby charging me four times the "agreed upon" rate, plus $1.50 for postage and handling. She is beyond impossible to communicate with, and always has to be right. She lets you know this in a very harsh and condescending manner. She tells you she is always busy, but by the looks of it, I would doubt it. The first time I met her in person was when she parked her car in front of my home. She took one picture of the home for evidence, and charged me $180 for the picture which took one second, calling it a "site review." Lacks integrity and I constantly needed to remind her of follow-up. I could go on and on, but each time is worse than the next. Alice needs to get out of this business. I know many good lawyers, but I used Alice as a referral from a personal friend who did not use her as a lawyer, just a friend (my big mistake!!). She did not focus on my case. Find anyone else and you will get better representation. If I could give her ZERO stars I would. Alice - I do not need a comment from you on this Yelp review. We have had them and you are aware of your mistakes. I had such an awful experience with you. The worst. Funny thing, her "good" reviews are most likely written by herself to boost her stardom. Far from being a star.

Many lawyers have the reputation of being dealbreakers. Granted, in reading the fine print and understanding all the nuances extant in contracts, they can keep one out of trouble in the short and long term. Alice is not only capable of the latter but in the most recent instance was able to salvage an important Contract for our company. Short history: after innumerable discussions between our company and their company regarding portions of the contract and after several iterations, it had come to a stalemate and the Contract was going to be lost. I called Alice to be sure she could/would provide assistance. Then I made arrangements with the other company to be sure it was ok if their lawyer and our lawyer communicated to try and resolve this impact. They were amenable so I notified Alice and within hours each was in contact with the other and within less than an hour a resolution was reached and the contract was saved. Alice is diligent, fair, pleasant, knowledgeable, experienced, and astute but resolute in reaching the best compromise/agreement for her client. I do not hesitate to recommend her highly for anyone who is need of competent lawyering for a successful resolution.

Eric Shevin is hands down one of if not the best most well respected criminal defense attorneys in LA. I have used Eric on several occasions most recently on a criminal case. We were facing serious felony charges for manufacturing a controlled substance(cannabis oil). Eric and his team defended us and we achieved the result we were looking for. Then Ryan FORCED me to take another polygraph for the D.A. which my entire family advised against but I followed Ryan and Eric's direction. Worse mistake of my life and I paid for it.... I spent 2 years of my life in San Quentin because of my forced decisions to follow their direction. I'm not one to write reviews but I felt I had to save someone the time and money. I'm a single mother and hired Mr Morris back in October 2023. When I called he immediately answered but told me he was at church and would get back to me. He did indeed got back to me. I told him I really needed help and I needed an aggressive attorney dealing with my Childs father for my child custody case. I decided to go with him because he seemed trustworthy and he was the only lawyer that allowed payments towards the retainer fee. I felt so relieved to have an attorney and someone to represent me. After my contracts were signed he was so difficult to get in touch with. He never asked me questions about my case and I never heard from anyone unless I called them. He has a call center answering once you become a client and he has 2 paralegals named Amy and Kristina. I always spoke to Kristina and she said I needed to relax and that my case was a simple case. Implying that it was going to be smooth and I had nothing to worry about. When they finally filed the paperwork for me to serve my daughters father I had to keep calling them in regards to that matter also. It was a week before my case and I still hadn't heard anything back from Kristina or Mr Morris.. Coming to find out she had a death in her family and Mr Morris was on vacation in Belize. Since he was gone my daughters fathers attorney managed to get the case moved to the Whittier courthouse when we filed in LA and had them served. So now I'm the recipient and he's the petitioner. He let this other Attorney walk all over him and call the shots. Btw The judge in Whittier was a nightmare. She has terrible reviews and is bias. But At this point my anxiety is through the roof because I can't get in touch with anyone, we don't have a case to present because they still haven't asked or guided me on anything to do. He didnt tell me to start documenting anything or pulling up text! Nothing. I had to have my mom call from her number because once you become a client they screen your calls. She pretended to be interested in hiring him and guess what! He called her back. After a month of not speaking to me at all. So he finally gave me an appointment to meet him at his office to go over my case. He never wrote down any notes of asked me what the other party could have against me. Nothing! Finally court, Mr Morris showed up 30 minutes late to court! He didn't register us, when we were in front of the judge he didn't know my case. The Judge asked him what was the status quo and he turned and asked me. I almost got contempt of court because he wasn't saying anything of substance out of his mouth that I told him. They judge kept asking him what was his point. He was talking circles. It was completely embarrassing. He had no fight in court! He didn't take notes at all in court either. You are better off representing yourself. After that horrible experience, I was so distraught. I fired him the next day. He still proceeded to tell the third party who I was going through to pay for him that he rendered all my services and I still owed him 4000 dollars. I will be suing him and reporting them to the bar. He's a money hungry lazy attorney that uses his faith as a front. He doesn't care about making sure you keep your family together.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
