This review is strictly to point out how this law firm handles employees. LCW is fully aware that as of March 2020 that there is a pandemic going around in the world and yet they find it completely okay with having employees who are heath compromised come into work in the Los Angeles office, although the CDC and WHO have warned against it. All other LCW offices have closed during this time but the LA office finds money to be more important that the health and safety of ALL it’s employees so only a select few are REQUIRED to come into the office, while others (including a majority of the attorneys) get to work from home. This is bad employer practice and shows just how inhuman this firm is. Further more, most schools, courts and departments that LCW works with are closed as well so what work is so important that you as an employer are willing to risk people’s health for it instead of just postponing the deadline like the rest of the world is having to do? If this is how they treat employees, I can only imagine how they treat clients.

Mario is fantastic! Let me first start by saying that I have hated every experience I ever had working with all lawyers...until I worked with Mario. He always provides sound, logical advice that makes sense for my exact situation. He listens carefully to me and asks probing questions to best understand my needs based on the facts. He makes you feel like you're working with a friend, not a lawyer. He never tries to BS me and NEVER gives me blanket statements like, "dont worry, we will take care of you...it will take some time and cost money upfront but it will be worth it in the end". Thats what other lawyers have said to me to string me along. He gives me the facts and always presents me with alternate solutions so that I can make informed decisions on what is best for me and my business. He has never sold me a bill of goods and never tries to bill me unnecessary hours. I have had other law firms (which I cannot name on Yelp) literally bill me $20k without delivering any results or even providing any sound advice. That was just the bill for merely listening to my case, and sending one letter out. Bottom Line: Mario Pacione is my go-to, and trusted lawyer.

She was very unprofessional, always sent her paralegal to do the dirty work rather than contact me herself. I know karma will come and it's not for me...glad to be done with her and her office.

This man is awful and his practice is unethical. He got a free 1000 from scamming my family. Didn’t even bother to look up my father’s case we literally paid him 1000 for him to see my father in person and demand more money. He did not look up his case or offer any type of consultation on how we can help my father. BEWARE of this awful unethical attorney that’s ok with scamming families out of their hard earned money.

Although Gerardo Camacho Attorney at Law is no longer with us, his legacy lives on. In 2005, represented by Mr. Camacho, the SB County Superior Court granted Restraining Order and Protective Orders that are still standing today. I'm grateful for his compassionate and professional representation 17 years later. His distinguished dedication to survivors of domestic violence and their children was remarkable. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues on his passing.

Jeff Dominic Price was my attorney in a court matter. I'm posting this review in the interest of justice & the public's right to know. (If this site deletes my review, as it is notorious for doing, then I'll post this review on a well-known site that's known for NOT removing posts, and I'll make known that THIS site chose to hide it, That way, this site, too, will be exposed). He represented me in poor fashion. WHILE he was my attorney, he coerced me into relations. When I declined, he intentionally threw my case for his personal gain from the opposing side. Yet even before doing so, while the case was still active, he was frequently late with crucial filings which led to the judge imposing hefty sanctions. He also failed to show up to at least 3 court dates. The judge had to send the Marshal to get him & bring him to court. He's problematic in that he often alienated court staff, which made it doubly difficult for me as the petitioner. The former Honorable Judge Stephanie Sautner twice banned him from her court room, because he caused an uproar during court proceedings. Because the public has the right to this information to be able to make informed decisions, I am posting this factual review.

Stay away from Peter diDonato! He is the worst attorney of all time. Didn't help me, help the other side. I had 3 surgeries because I was attacked by a dog at a customer's house. The Dog bite me in The Groin area twice. [Redacted] here is my surgery on YouTube. The jury awarded me $20,000 for pain and suffering and another $20,000 for future pain and suffering claim medical bills totaled $50,000. Do the math. In addition of that he told me he collected his attorney's fees. Our contract States that I get 66% yeah I got nothing except the pain and suffering. I believe this is corruption at the deepest core.

She didn't care what happened to me or my case. As a result of her late andincomplete filings I lost everything. My home and property. I am disabled and she "forgot" to mention that to the court. That alone woukd have protected my home and property. I , would stay clear of Ms. Albert.

After four years of my family and I being subjected to uninhabitable conditions in our apartment, enduring severe tenant harassment, and numerous other constructive eviction actions, by our former landlord and his agents, we hired attorneys to represent us in a civil lawsuit. The attorneys we initially hired took our case on contingency fee and filed a complaint against the owner of the property in January of 2019. The complaint includes 12 causes of action such as breach of contract, breach of implied warranty of habitability, fraud, and constructive eviction, among others. Our former attorneys started out strong assuring us that they would fight all the way to trial. Sadly, after six months of pumping us up about the case, our attorneys tried to get a quick couple of settlements out of it and then withdrew after we said we did not agree to a very bad faith settlement offer from the insurance company. It appears that our former attorneys never intended to do much on our case. They never responded to Notices of Depositions, or Discovery Requests, and left to defend ourselves In Pro Per with very little knowledge on how to respond to the Discovery Requests. Ultimately, opposing counsel filed Motions to Compel Discovery, and my family and I were facing $22k in sanctions. The court gave us 30 days to comply with the Discovery Requests but we were still so lost until Lenore Albert came to the rescue. Lenore Albert quickly came to our rescue after being left to figure out how to go forward unrepresented. Lenore is a highly-skilled, knowledgeable, and competent attorney, who has the expertise and experience to assist in a David vs. Goliath case like ours. Lenore thoroughly reviewed the issues in our case, reviewed all the documents, then immediately lept into action for my family and me. It was such a crucial moment in our case when legal expertise was desperately needed. After being abandoned by our former counsel, I had nearly given up hope. Once I contacted Lenore, she not only reassured me that everything would be okay, but actually explained what we needed to do to avoid being sanctioned $22k for not providing proper discovery responses. Our former counsel never bothered to explain anything. Lenore went through every part of the discovery with us and helped us to understand the proper way to answer the interrogatories. Lenore gave us simple examples that made the process less daunting and helped us to stop stressing and to systematically prepare our documents. Lenore assisted us in making sure the discovery responses were code compliant, with proper verifications, and then served them on opposing counsel. Lenore helped us prepare a declaration of compliance to file with the court to notify the court that we had complied with the order in a timely manner. Lenore advised us on every issue we would be facing with discovery and discussed several strategies on how to move forward in our case. We have received far more value working with Lenore on a Limited Scope basis than we received with attorneys who took the case on a contingency fee. I cannot think of a legal service that is more valuable than Limited Scope representation when Plaintiffs find themselves in a situation like ours. We reached out to at least 40 attorneys/law firms after our attorneys abandoned our case. Nobody wanted to take it because of liens that would be filed by our former counsel and because they knew it would be more complicated after being represented previously and left to figure it out on our own. Lenore offered her services at a reasonable price, has been fantastic in leading us forward with confidence, and real strategies that could bring us a much better outcome than what our former lawyers tried to force us into. In fact, because of Lenore’s help on our discovery, the court didn’t sanction us today! I am a Paralegal, I know many attorneys but I can only recommend Lenore!

I was referred to Andrew by Legal Shield. The initial call was great, and I sent him the file on my case. After review, we spoke again, and instead of taking the case on contingency, Andrew wanted to do a retainer with hourly plus contingency, which I agreed to, and even insisted on increasing the contingency percentage. I told him I could fund the retainer and start the case in about three weeks. At this point, his demeanor changed significantly, and it got awkward. He then told me to call him back when I was ready to start and that he wouldn't sent the agreement to be reviewed until then. Odd, but I agreed. I called him back sooner than originally forecast, 20 days later, ready to start the case and fund the retainer, but it went to voice mail. Over the next few days I left several voicemails and texts until I finally got a text reply that he wasn't interested in working with me. I said I was sorry to hear that, and asked why but did not receive a reply. I sent a follow-up asking for the reason, but still no reply. Very unprofessional; should have believed the other reviews.

I hired Suzy Moore to represent me in a disability discrimination case (she is now in La Mesa, CA). She gave me bad advice, including not to make a formal complaint with HR before I left my employment, which weakend my case tremendously. She then told me I had to resign before she could start working on my case, which other attorneys have told me was also bad advice. She was not responsive, and I got the feeling after her initial excitement of taking my case, it fell to the back burner. She told me she couldn't do this or that due to her "other court obligations" which I could understand -- to an extent. After sending out a demand letter she then bailed on my case and sent me a letter basically stating the claim she originally told me I had was now not strong enough. She refused to even attempt to try and negotiate a settlement with my employer. Her actions definitely give lawyers a bad name, but I am moving on to a more reputable attorney.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
