Mr. Thomas B. Ure is personable and is the consummate professional. He is an experienced attorney to whom I would not hesitate in recommending in the highest degree. He is a compassionate attorney that helped my family through a very difficult time. He treated us with dignity throughout the bankruptcy process and made an unpleasant experience tolerable. His stewardship and development of a tailored plan to overcome our financial hurdles has now placed us in a much more stable and promising financial footing for the future. I cannot say enough about his credibility and performance. There is not a more articulate and knowledgeable bankruptcy attorney out there. In retaining Mr. Ure, you can be rest assured and have confidence that he will handle all your bankruptcy needs.

We knew nothing about Ch 13 until the Ure Law Firm recommended this path of reorganization. The lawyers Tom Ure & David Shevitz did an expert job in getting our plan certified. As a result this is the first year in a long time that we have not had to use credit to pay our annual federal income and state property taxes. The plan is working and we can now see light at the end of the tunnel.

I hired Brian to file a chapter 7 in 2017. When you hire a bankruptcy attorney, you assume they understand all the laws according to the county they are practicing in, right? Not Brian! After all was said and done, the back taxes that were supposed to be included in my chapter 7, were not discharged. You can only discharge taxes from 3 years back. But because I had filed an extension with the IRS, the date I was told by Brian to file was incorrect. He told me that I should file 3 years from the date of acceptance by the IRS. But that was incorrect according to the laws set by the IRS. It should have been 3 years from the extension date. Im now still liable for the taxes, and Brian did nothing to correct the situation, nor offer to refund me for the service I paid him to be an expert in. When you hire someone, you assume they know ALL the laws of bankruptcy. This guy is just pumping out, like a bankruptcy mill, with no attention to details. Thanks for nothing Brian.

If you need the best Bankruptcy attorney look no further than Brain J. Soo-Hoo. He's an attorney that will not only get your cases settled quickly and efficiently, he's able to get the best results. Unlike all these other attorneys who neglect to pick up their phone, you're going to be speaking to him directly. No matter what kind of situation you are in he will take care of you. He also made time for me over a weekend when I was too busy with work to come in on a weekday. I definitely recommend Mr. Soohoo. Thank you for taking care of us!

I could email her anytime and get a respond within a day. Her staff was very professional and friendly. I have recommended her to a close friend and she had the same experience.

Used the services of Mr. McAlpin twice. The first experience was very positive, with Mr. McAlpin performing services, as promised, with professionalism and a fair amount of empathy. Based on that experience, I reached out to Mr. McAlpin a second time. But this time my experience was the polar opposite from the first. After explaining my need, and having Mr. McAlpin tentatively agree to help, I never heard from him again. Left messages for about a week, but to no avail. Would I recommend McAlpin to others? Only if they desired to to declare bankruptcy. For advice or counsel on any other matter, I'd recommend going elsewhere.

I just want to say James Latimer and the whole Ladimir law. Firm was great awesome from start to finish except for Sergio Monteon, who was very rude condescending and answered questions in tone not very customer service oriented, but I’d have to say Mr. Latimer and the rest of the team is awesome not only did he achieve in winning my case with Workmen’s Comp., but also went above and beyond with applying me for subsequent injuries, benefits trust fund, and also won my case at 100% disabled. God bless you James God bless your entire team.

I contacted and hired this attorney. A girlfriend of mine was using his services. He handled my 1st 2 cases sufficiently, granted it was a no brainer. I should never have trusted him with my child custody case. He was unprepared. He didn't know anything about my case. He was dishonest and charged me for things that he never even did. He took advantage of me and wasted my time. He was more concerned about being inappropriate with me than handling my case. I am now paying the consequences for putting my trust in such an incapable person.

I had a private student loan with AES, American Education Services. The loan amount was for 88,000. I had paid on the loan for 6-7 years. Ran into some hard times and wasn't able to pay it. And for about 5 years I had no contact with AES nor did I make a payment. I was sued, showed up on my door step and served me papers.... I cant tell you how many attorney's tell you "kick rocks" when they hear what type of debt I had. Linda was able to take care of this. My case ended around 2015 in El Dorado County. The debt still showed up on my credit report as of July 2018.. By October 2018 the student loan is gone. All three reports show AES is no longer on my credit. Linda is GREAT!!!!! I feel like Linda helped me win the lottery. AES would have followed me for ever.. I would have never been to move on with me life. LINDA GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK.... THANK YOU LINDA!!!!!

Thanks to the Mlnarik Law Group I was able to get primary custody of my daughter. My attorney “Bill Winters” is great at what he does. If you provide him with the proper information needed and are aware of accurate dates he can help you. This is a very professional law group. It all started with a Free 30 minute consultation, You get what you pay for. I understand the thought of getting and paying a lawyer can seem scary. “Michele” the office manager is great when it comes to setting up payment plans and is understanding. (This doesn’t mean you get away with paying nothing people) they are understanding though when it comes to the date and amount you can pay and are willing to work with you. I haven’t fully finished out my services with This company yet, but I will write a finishing review when done also. So far they have been great and more then helpful. Mr. Olsen, Helped us with a very sad situation having to get a restraining order. He was very straightforward About how to deal with the matter he was very fair about what he charged us and he got us through a very uncomfortable situation. We consulted him on another matter he took an hour of his time at least and unlike other attorneys who told us they should start legal proceedings he advised against it citing that It would end up costing us double if we proceeded at that time and that we should hold off for two years it was a spousal support modification issue. I cannot say enough good things about Scott Olson I’m in the process of seeking his help again and I am confident he will Come through for us!

First time filing for bankruptcy and Janine gave me the worst experience. She was flat out rude, non professional and confrontational at some times. I never met her in person due to covid. Everything was over the phone. There was a time where I made a mistake and she yelled at me and said "I don't have time for this" and hung up on me. I paid her for her time. I felt so disrespected so many times. There were several times where she gave me false information in regards to my case as if she were trying to sabotage me and I corrected her. It seemed as if she wasn't on my side and not trying to help me win my case. I don't know what she's going through in life but I hope she learns to treat her clients with respect while she's struggling.

I went in to their office for a consultation and I hired her because she seemed very nice and professional. I paid her her attorney fees up front and whenever she needed money for an application fee i would go give it to her because she can't submit something without the fees. At the beginning it was really good they would call when ever they needed more paperwork or signatures and I would go down to the office. The problem started towards the very near end of my process when they just stopped calling me and giving me updates. It was very hard to get a hold of them thru the phone and even in their office. I would go to the office to try and get information about my case and it was always closed. When there was someone there I would try to make an appointment but they would tell me i couldn't make one with Janine because she never let them know when she would come to the office. That she just came in whenever and they wouldn't be able to tell me which day to go in. I was very upset because even if they didn't feel like finishing my case they could of communicated with me and let me know so I could of hired another attorney and not have me wasted money and time. Now my case is closed and I will have to pay another two thousand to file again plus attorney fees. They need to communicate better with their clients because to this day I still haven't heard anything from her office and the only reason i know my case is closed is because I called the National Visa Center to find out what was going on and they let me know. I just let it go because I got tired of trying to reach them but I do feel like I got scammed by them and they made me lose money.

I hired Dayna to handle my BK case and then a Settlement Agreement to obtain a Satisfaction of Judgement to have a lien removed from my property. I was referred to her by my brother. My husband and I had listed out house for sale but could not do so until the release of the lien. This BK was to be a Bare Bones filing and was supposed to take 2 to 3 weeks at the most. In the 6th week, I received an offer to settle my debt and have the lien removed. I decided, due to the length of time wasted already, to settle with the offer and dismiss the BK. I informed Dayna, and asked her to dismiss the BK. She would only wait until the Judge dismissed it which took yet additional time. I hired her again to complete the settlement with my creditor and negotiate a lower pay off. This should have taken 1 week tops. After 3 weeks, I had to pay the full amount requested, I had to have the Satisfaction of Judgement delivered to me, and I had to file it at the county recorders office myself. My complaint is that during the course of my BK, I was not allowed to contact her by phone per her instructions through my brother. She never met with me, never gave me any advice, and we never met. Throughout this BK, after many e-mails by me to Dayna instructing her to cease communicating and disclosing my case to my brother but, she continued to involve and tell my brother my business. I believe that is completely against my attorney-client privilege and against the law. She never completed my BK and never offered to refund any monies that I had paid her for. Likewise I hired her for the Settlement Agreement, separate from the BK case, and she continued to tell my brother everything about this case also. And like the BK case, she didn't negotiate a lower price, was gone from her office after instructing my creditor to deliver it to her overnight, I had to go to file the document myself at the county recorders office. and pay an additional fee to file it. Dayna was paid in cash by me and did not finish either case! I had to finish them, and pay an additional fee which was included in the cash price I gave her. She never contacted me after instructing me, by e-mail, to go and record the SOJ myself. She never offered to refund any of my money for not doing her job on this case as well as the BK case mentioned above. Her lack of integrity by breeching my attorney-client relationship is unacceptable to me and that is why I am writing this review. I want to warn people out there not to trust in her with your personal information and not to trust her to finish the job she is hired for. Also unacceptable to me is the fact that Dayna would not communicate with me by phone and did not counsel me in any way throughout my entire BK case! A lot of time was waisted in both cases and I lost 2 buyers for my house during this time. I'm completely unhappy with Dayna's attitude and the service I received from her!

The case that I'm using Ms. Chillas for has not reached conclusion yet. She has been extremely helpful in providing guidance in how to proceed in this civil law suit. She has done far more than I would have expected any attorney to do including helping me find competent medical specialists and appropriate support for my daily living needs which I haven't been able to handle since a horrible incident where I was injured though no fault of my own. She has found appropriate housing for me close to the specialists that have evaluated my injuries and who are providing therapy for me now. She has arranged a number of depositions in the case and is prepared to go to trial if the defendant in the case doesn't make a reasonable settlement offer within a reasonable time period. We're in virtually daily contact by e-mail and phone. She keeps me informed of all conversations with my doctors, the defendant’s attorneys and others involved in the case. When I wasn't able to get food and medication, she arranged for food to be delivered to me and for doctors prescriptions and pharmacy deliveries of needed medication. She has informed me as to case law for the situation I'm in and what I can reasonably expect to transpire. She has developed a time line for the case and keeps me informed as to where we stand on the time line. She has arranged care givers for me as needed but has not run up expenses that aren't necessary. She regularly checks on me to make sure I have whatever assistance is required. She makes all doctor appointments for me and arranges transportation to the doctors as necessary. Her encouragement has helped tremendously as I've gone through traumatic challenges since the incident occurred.

Proceed with caution. I worked with attorney David Lally. He was very unprofessional, rude and overcharged me. He was not able to produce on what he promised. Further more, he was more concerned about getting paid, then the outcome of my case. Although Mr. Lally's selling point is that he has a lot of experience practicing law, he doesn't know how to use that experience in his arguments. I would advise anyone who is looking to for a good Bankruptcy Attorney to steer clear.

The point is, he did exactly what was requested on time with no excuses, delays or extra charges.

I can only speak for Burton Mitchell, as I have not utilized the firm for other matters. Having gone through a few estate firms, Mr. Mitchell is the foremost expert and legal scholar in estate planning in So Calif. A prior firm not to be mentioned interviewed for a full page spread in the NYTs botched so much. Fame doesn’t equal knowledge. I switched and am forever grateful. Knowing Mr Mitchell’s character, he would NOT associate with other attorneys unless they are of similar aptitude. Legal matters, always tortuous. Judges or jurors decide whimsically especially in California. Any disgruntled matter should be directed to the TRIAR OF FACT, not councils regardless of firm, that has to deal with oftentimes a disinterested jury pool. That is a variable no one has control over. My overall observation, reasonably priced TOP NOTCH FIRM. From one high level professional to another, different fields but astute observer. Thank you for taking the time to read my snapshot

Hired lawyer to resolve a complex multi-million dollar debt. He talks a good talk but this one is overpriced for the work that he did. He makes up erroneous charges then bills the client to substantiate the false explanation of why the charges are valid. A lawyer is supposed to be trustworthy and after several years and tens of thousands of dollars in (now) bogus charges, we have written off part of the debt rather than spend more money on bad lawyers like Marc Andrw Lieberman.

I had an extremely difficult time with my Bankruptcy because my ex- was trying to play dirty and frame me with the goal of getting my house even though it was in my name as sole property. I had to declare Bankruptcy because he and his family fired me from the family business, never paid me for several months of back pay and then proceeded to attach me and my children. David ensured that I made a complete filing which later stood up in Divorce court; and, thanks to David's preparation and attention to detail, helped me win my Property Settlement in my Divorce. I have to apologize as this review is very late in posting because I was busy fighting for my Property (for 9 years). Don't ever go to AutismLaw.com Sheila Bayne They don't care for kids with special needs, she and James her assistant, treat people really bad. They have too much pride, they don't have any kind of communication with parents, they don't answer emails, phone call, thay get mad if you ask any kind of questions, it was a horrible experience having these two people, especially Sheila Bayne. Waist of time, bad experience, horrible people to work with. I am very unhappy and disappointed at their kind of work they do, especially how they treat people. Don't waist your time with Autism law.com, Sheila or James, they're not what they say they are, or do what they say they will do for your kids with special need.

This attorney will claim she will help you , but she will totally ignore your case . Her and 'Elmer' will take your money and ruin your credit. This attorney made me do a bankruptcy, charged $5,000 and still let me loose my property. Very undeducated. Please do NOT HIRE HER AS YOUR LAWYER.

I was referred to Bruce via the Orange County California State Bar Association. I came to Bruce in the late afternoon with a rushed legal matter that had a next day deadline to respond. Bruce not only took the time to listen to my prospective case with me being rushed & emotional , he also narrowed down the precise actions we needed to take and laid out a winning game plan.

This man is awful and his practice is unethical. He got a free 1000 from scamming my family. Didn’t even bother to look up my father’s case we literally paid him 1000 for him to see my father in person and demand more money. He did not look up his case or offer any type of consultation on how we can help my father. BEWARE of this awful unethical attorney that’s ok with scamming families out of their hard earned money.

I wish I was able to give this "lawyer" less than 1 star. He took my family's money and spent it on his mortgage or car note. I would not recommend this man for anything other than postponing your court dates and not showing up for them.

This law office was a god send. I initially went to a paralegal that tried to scam me. But after meeting with the attorney she informed me that I was a good candidate for an adjustment of status and I decided to hire her. Everything has been going good so far. I will update if anything changes.

Very unprofessional. She is totally Furad and scam please don’t hire here. She is not an immigration attorney. She has zero experience. I hired her to represent my fiancé case sadly she took my money and I did the entire paperwork by myself. She didn’t know to transfer a case from one embassy to another embassy. She give me wrong information from the beginning to the end. Typically the applicant making appointment for his/her self or the attorney of record. She made me to wait for a long time for no reason. She told me the embassy will schedule the interview. She was wrong. The applicant or attorney have to do it even I filled the DS 160 for my fiancé because she was extremely lazy to do it and did it once with a lot of mistakes.

What a Bankruptcy Lawyer Can Do for You

A bankruptcy lawyer specializes in helping individuals and businesses manage overwhelming debt by filing for bankruptcy or exploring alternatives to bankruptcy. They guide clients through the complex legal process of discharging or restructuring debts, represent them in court, and work to protect assets such as homes and cars. Bankruptcy lawyers can also help stop creditor harassment, wage garnishment, and foreclosures through bankruptcy protections.

If you're facing financial hardship, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you decide whether filing for bankruptcy is the right option and assist you through the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Bankruptcy Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a bankruptcy lawyer in the following situations:

  • Unmanageable debt: If you're unable to pay your bills and debts are piling up, a lawyer can help you explore options such as Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  • Foreclosure or repossession: If your home is at risk of foreclosure or your vehicle is in danger of being repossessed, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you use bankruptcy protections to prevent this and potentially reorganize your debts.
  • Wage garnishment: If your wages are being garnished, filing for bankruptcy can stop garnishments and allow you to regain control of your finances.
  • Creditor harassment: If creditors are constantly calling or sending collection notices, a bankruptcy lawyer can stop these actions by filing for bankruptcy, which enacts an automatic stay that halts collection activities.
  • Small business debt: If your business is struggling with debt and cannot meet financial obligations, a lawyer can help you file for Chapter 11 (reorganization) or Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy.
  • Medical debt or credit card debt: If you have large amounts of unsecured debt like medical bills or credit card balances, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you seek relief through Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Hiring a bankruptcy lawyer early in the process can prevent further financial damage and help you choose the best legal option for debt relief.

What Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Do?

A bankruptcy lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals and businesses handle their debts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Evaluating your financial situation: Assessing your income, assets, debts, and expenses to determine if bankruptcy is the right option and which type of bankruptcy (Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11) best suits your situation.
  • Filing bankruptcy petitions: Preparing and filing the necessary documents to initiate your bankruptcy case, ensuring that all legal requirements are met.
  • Stopping creditor harassment: Once the bankruptcy case is filed, an automatic stay is enacted, which stops creditors from pursuing collection efforts. A lawyer ensures this protection is applied immediately.
  • Representing you in court: Representing you in court proceedings, including meetings with creditors and any hearings related to your case.
  • Negotiating with creditors: In Chapter 13 or Chapter 11 bankruptcies, negotiating a repayment plan that restructures your debts and allows you to manage payments more effectively.
  • Advising on asset protection: Guiding you on how to protect certain assets, such as your home or retirement savings, through available bankruptcy exemptions.
  • Explaining the impact on your credit: Informing you about how bankruptcy will affect your credit and advising on steps to rebuild your credit post-bankruptcy.

How Are Bankruptcy Lawyers Paid?

Bankruptcy lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways depending on the complexity of the case and the type of bankruptcy being filed. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many bankruptcy lawyers charge a flat fee for handling Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. This fee usually covers the entire process, from preparing and filing paperwork to representing you in court.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as Chapter 11 bankruptcy (often used by businesses), some lawyers charge an hourly rate. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Retainer: In cases where ongoing legal services are required, such as in Chapter 11 bankruptcies or complex Chapter 13 cases, a lawyer may request a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront, as bankruptcy law requires lawyers to disclose all fees and ensure they are reasonable and fair.

How Much Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a bankruptcy lawyer varies depending on the type of bankruptcy and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy: For individuals, legal fees usually range from $1,000 to $3,500. This flat fee generally covers the entire process.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy: For individuals filing Chapter 13, legal fees typically range from $2,500 to $6,000. This cost is higher because of the additional work required to create and manage the repayment plan.
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy (for businesses): Chapter 11 bankruptcy is more complex and usually more expensive, with legal fees ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the size of the business and the complexity of the debt restructuring.
  • Filing fees: In addition to legal fees, there are also court filing fees, which are $338 for Chapter 7 and $313 for Chapter 13 as of 2024.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand what services are included and whether payment plans are available.

Top Questions to Ask a Bankruptcy Lawyer

Before hiring a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and knowledge to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with bankruptcy cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or hourly rate, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs, including filing fees and additional expenses.
  3. Which type of bankruptcy is best for me?
Ask the lawyer to explain whether Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 is the best option based on your financial situation and long-term goals.
  4. What debts can be discharged?
Ask which of your debts will be forgiven through bankruptcy and which debts (such as certain taxes or student loans) may not be dischargeable.
  5. How long will the process take?
Bankruptcy cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last, from filing to discharge.
  6. Will I be able to keep my assets?
Ask if you will be able to keep important assets, such as your home or car, and what exemptions might apply.
  7. What happens after bankruptcy?
Ask about the impact of bankruptcy on your credit score and what steps you can take to rebuild your credit after the bankruptcy is finalized.

How to Check the Credibility of a Bankruptcy Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable bankruptcy lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for bankruptcy experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in bankruptcy law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and ability to handle bankruptcy cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on bankruptcy matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for lawyers who are members of organizations such as the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) or who have specialized bankruptcy law certifications.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of debts: Prepare a detailed list of all your debts, including credit cards, personal loans, medical bills, and any secured debts such as mortgages or car loans.
  • Income and expense records: Bring documents that show your current income, such as pay stubs or tax returns, and a list of your monthly expenses, including rent, utilities, and other essential costs.
  • Asset information: Provide information on any assets you own, such as your home, car, investments, or other valuable property.
  • Credit reports: If possible, bring copies of your credit reports to give the lawyer a clear view of your financial situation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions you have about the bankruptcy process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect after filing for bankruptcy.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
