I saw a comment from Greg Smith about Abraham Watkins taking 40% and fees. There was a reply stating they don't from the law firm but I can attest to them taking 40% as a client and I saw under 5k from my 10k settlement. The firm hasn't been hard to deal with and they are rather good lawyers aside from the excessive fees. My only issue is them lying in the responses because I definitely was charged 40% in fees and saw under 5k. I also had to beg them just to file my claim for EIF when other law firms had filed claims for veterans with much less proof. I do feel defeated when it comes to how they're handling us but it's nothing new.

Got a call today after sending out the request the night before. The lady who called didn't even introduce herself which I deemed very rude and unprofessional. I made a typo on the request about the accident date but we got it resolved quickly, and I think it irritated her or something, then she ended up talking down to me like I was really stupid about my situation, and she continued to do that the whole conversation on the phone (at the end of all berating statements, she always said "I understand your situation completely" but the berate continued regardless, very passive aggressive behavior indeed). In the end, she notified me that the firm wouldn't take my case and gave me a phone number for referral services. I'd really appreciate it if she took the time to explain the explanation with a different tone of voice and manner, but in this case, thanks but no thanks, the way she talked to me made me feel like I'm stupid and unable to comprehend the information she delivered.

These people are crooks, and
they are very deceptive. They
are screwing all the people who
were involved in the TPC
explosion and trying not to pay
their clients. I had several
problems with transparency, and
they hid information from me.
They did an assessment of
damages to my home and
refused to share that with me.
When I called on different
occasions, I got a different
amount each time. They promised to start payouts before Christmas 2024. I got a call from someone stating this law firm will be contacting me regarding payout. Never got a call from them. I started calling them to get an update. Rosie would always tell me to check my email next week or call next week to get the amount and date. Another month has gone by with no answer. I will be
looking into filing complaints, and so should everyone else. Also, be sure to document every interaction with them for your protection because clearly they are letting you know they don't mind and will screw you.

Cordt Cullen Akers seems to lack the strategic foresight needed for effective defense. My experience was particularly disappointing as he pushed for a plea deal without thoroughly reviewing the evidence. This was especially frustrating when other defendants in the same case had their charges dismissed, suggesting the case might have lacked merit. His background as a former prosecutor might not translate well into defense strategy, leading to decisions that could be seen as overly cautious or misaligned with the client's best interests. I would caution against hiring him if you're looking for aggressive defense or a thorough case review.
