I will start off by saying I had to put a star but if it were up to me he would have none. I paid this man $5000 to take my case, and in turn instead of working for me the (respondent) and try to agree to terms of the best instest of the children, he just agreed with the petitioner (other side) lawyer claims. Thus, leading to the petitioner having custody and me only getting my kids two days a week, supervised visitation. There is no evidence or claims that, I, hurt my children or was an alcoholic or a bad father in any way, yet this was the outcome because this lawyer would not fight for anything for me. I have all evidence proving I’m a good father and I spent all my money on this lawyer who did nothing and I mean nothing for me.

Teresa Alvarez handled a criminal case for me (my only one thank goodness) and was very professional in handling it. She was able to find the technicality that had my case thrown out right away and saved me a bunch of time and aggravation; I highly recommend her. And even though I hope I never have to retain legal representation again she will definitely be the attorney I go to first.

My wife and i were Looking to modify a child support arrangement and time sharing agreement and found this office. Both the attorney and paralegal were nothing but professional and responsive. Absolutely excellent service and would definitely recommend. Every question was answered and every document sent in such a timely manner. We expected to be going through this process for a couple months and it took only a couple weeks.

Attorney Lynda Amadi Esq is an amazing lawyer. She was able to get me divorced this year, in less than eight months, even during the pandemic. Ms Amadi was able to negotiate a fair marriage agreement for us, and got me out of a miserable situation. I respect Ms. Amadi's ability as a lawyer and highly recommend her and her firm, Amadi Law, for any divorce or child support issues.

I retained Kenneth M. Poole, Jr. as my attorney in June 2011. Ken was steadfast in his representation of me in long-drawn-out, post-divorce litigation that concluded in June 2019. Ken never once let me down in his knowledge of my case and its myriad of details. He was quick to produce documents when they were necessary, and I was often in awe at how he made the complex simple. Ken was a steady ship and wise counsel. I highly recommend.

I hired Mr. Poole while I was getting divorce. I hired him because he belongs to a big firm, but that was it. I never heard before of him. What a terrible mistake!....After we spoke a couple of times, he told me that my case was too difficult and he prefer not to work with me. So I asked him if I could get the $2000 back that I gave him as a retainer fee, and of course he said no. I hired a second attorney. Yes, my case was difficult because my ex husband run away with my children, but this second attorney got me a mediation in just 3 days and got my children back. Do not hire Mr. Poole. You will lose your money.

This attorney does very minimal work. I was asked to retain him by a partner in his firm and from day one I didnt have a good feeling but given the partner that asked me to retain him, I did. I have pretty much had to beg for proper legal information since that time. He filed some paperwork that anyone could have filed, sent some emails, allowed the other party in my case to threaten him in to bringing such a simple case to a halt and then decided he wanted to remove himself from my case. Beware.............. You get what you pay for.

Extremely competent lawyer who knows the legal system very well. I hired Anne for a family law case that took a sharp turn into dependency court. For those of you who do not know, dependency court is grueling, complicated, and requires someone with poise, confidence, as well as, physical and emotional stamina. Anne went over and above the necessary lawyer/client relationship. Anne was my lawyer, but most importantly my rock during this difficult climb. I would not wish fighting for your child in dependency on anyone, but if you do, Anne is the one you want on your side. Anne has become my dear friend, and indoctrinated into our family. I do not know where I would be without Anne Alper.

Ms. Anne V Alper has mishandled my case from the beginning. I have documentation from the signing her contract to every back and forth email consisting of her excuses. She focuses on doing the right thing for her clients, as she claims, but Point and fact, she does not. As Jackie posted her dealings with Ms. Alper, I must do the same as this is horrible that a lawyer can repeatedly take advantage of clients. It is unfair immoral, and this repeated activity from a lawyer needs to be evaluated accordingly.

I paid a 4,000.00 retainer and got absolutely NOTHING accomplished: no custody agreement signed; Anne did not respond the the other parties last submission and as a result I am in default; when I brought this to her attention she filed a motion but it was too late. I lost $4000.00 and Anne was indifferent at best. Buyer beware. I have all documentation to substantiate these allegations so feel free to email me if you would like the details I would hate for anybody to go thru what I Went. I had to hire another attorney to start from fresh.

It's been over 5 yrs since my divorce & every year, I have to lawyer up because my MSA has so many loopholes & no penalties if my ex doesn't provide me w/ the correct documentation or compensation. So this year, as I lawyer up I feel compelled to write a review about Deborah Chames & her assistant at the time, Christina Echerverri. I hired Deborah because at the time, I thought these women were strong, smart, and caring lawyers who would have my back. I had just come out a 20 year abusive marriage and was weak physically and mentally. Upon our first consultation, as i relay what is going on, Deborah puts her hand up and says shush. I took this as a sign of strength, that she would be the bull in the china shop I needed on my side. I could not have been more wrong. During this first meeting, Deborah was appalled that my first lawyer (who I thought wasn't aggressive enough for my manipulative ex) was not able to get my cell phone returned to me that my ex wrestled out of my hands, along with my wallet and car keys (which he often took from me). I thought, she is going to help! She will be my strength my voice that I don't have right now. Looking back, I could not have been more wrong. I feel like both lawyers not only took advantage of me but of my father's wallet. They only saw dollar signs. I had to tell my dad the horrors I had been living under with my 3 kids. To this day, he is still upset with my lawyers. During the 6 or so months of working with the 2 women, I would questioned things but I would drop it I had no confidence after literally being tortured physically, emotionally and financially. When I did get up enough nerve to ask a question, Christina would get frustrated and she would get Deborah on the line who proceeded to screech at me. Her high pitched shrill voice took more time to dissipate then the wake from my contentious divorce. All in all, they bullied me, oer and over again & I acquiesced for fear of Deborah getting mad at me. Looking back, the few times they were nice, was when I had to come to town to get ready for one of many trials that never happened. They were nice bc they billed my dad for hours getting ready, when they probably knew no trial was to happen. My dad spent close to 6 figures, because they insisted my ex had no money. I kept insisting he will bounce back, he always did. I even hired a forensic accountant, who charged my dad close $30k & did not find anything. After the divorce, I found out that he owed the IRS $80k & then they came after me for the money. One time, an issue came up & I had to speak to Deborah (I cannot remember the issue) & she called me back & preceded to screech at me & tell me I ruined her son's engagement party! I got off the phone and cried. Much like the time I was on the phone w/ Christina, and I was asking her a question she didn't care for, when a squirrel ran out in front of my car & I ran it over. I got upset & was like OMG, I just ran over a squirrel! Christina proceeded to tell me to pay attention & focus on her in a very sharp tone and I said, I have to go and hung up. These women are cold, unemotional, and deceiving. Do not mistake what you think is fierceness and compassion as that! Like I said, I have had to lawyer up every year since my divorce because of my disastrous MSA, to which, other lawyers, even on my ex's side have voiced they have never seen such a poorly worded sections in a document. Took me years to forgive my lawyers so the weight could lift off my shoulders. I feel terrible my dad had to pay and I am embarrassed I picked such a bad husband but also in my opinion, very bad lawyers. Today, my ex flies private, has 2 homes & makes well over 6 figures. I on the other hand, can only make $40k or he can amend my alimony. And in the end, I never received my cell phone back. It was all just smoke and mirrors. I left my name on this review bc they don't intimidate or scare me anymore. Be kind.

I honestly was very disappointed with this experience. On the time we worked, she was very distracted with various cases, returning very disoriented, forgetting things we already discussed and not really focus on my case but charging premium money. She missed a few deadlines, made several mistakes on simple paperwork and charge for work that she did not do. At the end, she refused to give the documents that she created for me, really bad lawyer, but karma is there for all of us, so all the best Lisa.

Ms. Rodriguez has exceeded my expectations in my custody case. I’ve been in a lengthy custody’s battle for a few years and have been through multiple attorneys. She has helped me more than all of them combined, all with a compassionate heart. Ms. Rodriguez took my case with no problem and has been flexible with me and payments. I’m a single mother of five, and am on a tight budget and she has worked with me. Knowing these cases can be lengthy she understands it’s not always easy and has accommodated. Not just a great attorney because of her moral character but also by her legal talents. She’s always been on top of things with my case and has never let me down. All while showing concern for the actual outcome for my family, not just my case. More than I can say for my previous attorneys. Hopefully I don’t have to hire her again but if that time ever comes she’ll be the first person I contact.

Mr. Twyford is a very trustworthy attorney, as well as a very good person indeed. He handles cases like they are his and you cannot go wrong with him. He understands where you stand in a case and will handle cases diligently and accurately. I recommend his services if you are looking for a good attorney who you need to have your back with the issue you are dealing with. Twyford will ensure that he tries his best to ensure the best on his clients. I know that because he ensured the best for me and that he would do his best. In the end, he did, and now I have my record clean. I trust Mr. Twyford and so should you. His prices are not high and if the price is an issue at all, he will work with you. He works directly so you do not talk to any other attorney, just him. That was one of the things I liked the most is that he handled my case personally and it was not "just another case". 5/5 recommendation for him.

I wish I could give them 0 stars. We had the absolute worst experience with this law office. We should’ve checked the other reviews but my husband coworker recommended them. Not sure why because they were HORRIBLE. My husband received a traffic citation for speeding. He hadn’t received a speeding violation in over 15 years. We were informed by attorney Britney that she would represent my husband in court and he didn’t need to come since his job is extremely demanding. She also told us she would get the ticket amount decreased, and/or keep points off his license based on his driving record but he may have to take a driving course. On his court day we were informed another attorney went in Britney’s place. This said attorney reported back that my husband was found guilty and needed to take the driving class but no points would be on his license. Two days later, the attorney David Taylor reached out saying something different and the attorney that went in Britney’s place wasn’t familiar with the process, therefore not explaining the outcome correctly. When I tried to speak with attorney Britney, she referred us back to attorney David who was very rude and used vulgar language after I expressed how displeased I was with their service. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. This was a waste of money. Thank God my husband and I was able to get the situation rectified on our own.

I paid over $5000.00 to attorney Bryan McLachlan, to help me with child custody/support case. The attorney hurt me and my case and had me sign an order to terminate child support on 8/15/2014. The attorney told me this had to happen before we could continue and go in front of the judge. This never happened. I have no idea what I even paid for because I never received any receipts or signed copies of any court documents filed for this service. I know my attorney went to the noncustodial parent and gave him the needed signed document to stop the child support. I know this was not done with my best interest or of my children.

When acting as an "attorney" this lady has little to no clue what the basic proceedings are let alone the laws of common sense. Rosanna Ferrari is a pure waste of time in the purest sense. Also, she loves to spout off in court. Screaming and flapping her arms while her bad hair flops around. A toddler has better table manors than she. She's so broke she will double charge the invoice hoping you won't catch the "clerical error". Oh and her fat assistant, she's so lazy she'll walk around the office bare feet wearing fake yoga pants. They invoiced a credit card and the receipt was the same from a restaurant...How about a proper invoice "Paid statement" for 10k payment. Enjoy these two sea cows. As an ex-Community Association President, I've used Michael many times for collections, and also for handling matters regarding unit owner violations of the bylaws. Michael was very speedy and reliable with his response time. I usually received a phone call the next morning if he wasn't available to take my call. He is extremely affordable, and actually credited some of our money we used as a retainer to investigate a case. He is honest, and most Community Association Attorneys are not (from my experience). I actually hired him to just show up to a Master Association meeting with over 50 people present, and Michael stood up while I was being ignored by the other association members, and shouted "Let My Client Speak!". He received a standing ovation, and gained automatic respect. As a Community Association attorney, he is the best, and as a new owner of a Management Company, I expect to use him a lot.

The few months Mr. Bass represented me were signed by uncertainty, mediocrity and intimidation towards me. Until I interviewed 1/2 a dozen of other family lawyers to validate the quality of his work. The answers were: 1) negative feedback from colleagues though body language and 2) "Is He a divorce lawyer?". His works consist of billing too many hours, talk a lot, achieve nothing or very little. Then upon firing him and offered a more than generous final payment for all the damages caused and omissions during representation, he did not like the fact of being out of the party, and began a battery of lawsuits first in a county (he lost all of them including appeals). Then he filed a new lawsuit in another county, which he will not be able to get anything but nuisances to me and he will have to pay fees to the attorney representing him; as I have filed for bankruptcy. He has some investigations performed by The Florida Bar, I guess not for being a good lawyer or displaying good work ethics and integrity. Do you want a similar story like this? I guess not. Consult other attorneys instead

If this system would allow me to place a “minus ten” (-10), I sure would. Unless you’re looking to obtain a HEART ATTACK or start to constantly chew your nails, “ DON'T ” depend on Michael R Bass. His communications skills is extremely poor. Emails were hardly answered and getting a return call is like pulling a tooth from a new born. Above it all, he missed “court appearances”. Due to his lack of filling time and incompetent, I lost my child and ended up with a judgment that almost put me in jail. After taking matters in my on hands, I came to find out it all could have been done fairly easy and everything could have been solved much sooner instead of wasting money and time (one and half year=18 months) to start all over again. After hiring a new attorney, I now have my son back and my judgment was dropped in less than one (1) month. Unable to count own your attorney is like swimming in a pawn infested with alligators believing they will protect you.

Mark was unprofessional, gave wrong advice on several queries and did not follow through with what he said he would do. His staff repeatedly made mistakes on documentation and I was billed for both their mistakes and their corrections. I would never recommend this attorney. When a former associate who worked for him came on for the opposing party he totally changed his approach and he never informed me of his association with this attorney. Before I hired him he put forth one plan of action which after he received my hefty retainer he totally changed his approach.

I attempted to have consultation with this office and Attorney Rebecca Guthrie. I followed instructions, paid the consultation fee, and arrived for my scheduled consultation. The receptionist looked at me and said 'You're not on the calendar'. I replied that I was scheduled for this time by 'X' and I'm here. 'X' came out and apologized for the mistake. I said 'Give me my check' etc. The office manager, I assume, came out with my refund and began lecturing ME about MY attitude regarding THEIR mistake. Highly unprofessional office.

This lady (I refuse to call her a lawyer) should be immediately disbarred. Where do I start. 1) dishonest to a point of criminal behavior. I can’t prove that I was over billed on her legal documents but I can prove I was overbilled on phone calls. She’s so dumb that I counted the number of calls on my cell phone bill and there was less than 10 calls that she billed me for. IMPOSSIBLE!!! 2) Her legal documents were embarrassingly bad and appeared to be templates. I really think she goes on the Internet and takes legal documents off them and sells them as their own. She used the name “John Doe” Instead of my name in one of the documents in two places. 3) She was totally over matched in court. First off she was so underprepared it was embarrassing. She literally knew nothing about my case going into court and had to constantly look down at her notes. We lost every aspect of the case. I had to pay my legal fees, 100% of my ex-wife’s legal fees and had to pay even more than what they were asking for in child support. —- I am not one to complain but this was so ridiculous I had to make a formal complaint to the bar association. WHAT A JOKE!! Karen had answers for everything but never mentioned the phone call situation. The Bar Association didn’t even address the phone call situation. In their eyes it’s like it never happened. Unbelievable!!! Where do we turn to for help? It is like getting shot and robbed and having no police force to call. I literally caught her stealing!!! This lady cannot go on as a lawyer. She does irreparable harm. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get another lawyer. It is funny she has three 5 star reviews and the rest 1 star. Hmmmm.... I’ll make a bet those 5 star reviews are fake and are close friends.

Run while you can! Karen insisted on weekly $300 phone calls in which she ignored everything I told her and put words into my mouth. Later she negotiated with the opposing counsel on my behalf things that were benefiting my ex instead of me. She was not acting in my best interest at all! the only productive thing she did in my case was subpoena my ex’s 401k and even then she filed the paperwork with wrong name on it. She filed a motion without my consent after I repeatedly asked not to file anything on my behalf without prior discussing with me. Karen will charge you outrageous fees for everything including things you never asked her to do. She literally burned $3,000 on pointless phone calls and emails which she insisted on. I fired her after realizing that she will cause more harm than good to my case.

What a Child Support Lawyer Can Do for You

A child support lawyer specializes in legal issues related to the financial support that one parent provides to another for the upbringing of their children. These lawyers assist with establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support orders, ensuring that the financial needs of the child are met, including housing, food, healthcare, education, and other essentials. A child support lawyer can also represent parents in disputes over the amount of support, ensure fair calculations based on income, and handle legal proceedings if one parent fails to meet their obligations.

Whether you're seeking to establish child support, modify an existing order, or enforce payments, a child support lawyer can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights and the well-being of your child.

When Should I Hire a Child Support Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child support lawyer when you need assistance with any of the following child support matters:

  • Establishing child support: If you are going through a divorce or separation and need to establish a child support order, a lawyer can help ensure that the support amount is fair and accurately calculated.
  • Modifying child support orders: If there has been a significant change in circumstances, such as a job loss, income change, or a child's financial needs, a lawyer can help you request a modification to the existing child support order.
  • Enforcing child support payments: If the other parent has failed to make court-ordered child support payments, a lawyer can help enforce the order through legal means such as wage garnishment, property liens, or even legal action.
  • Disputing child support calculations: If you believe the child support amount has been incorrectly calculated based on your income or expenses, a lawyer can help you challenge the calculation and seek a fair adjustment.
  • Paternity disputes: If paternity needs to be established before child support can be ordered, a lawyer can assist with DNA testing and legal proceedings.
  • Interstate child support cases: If the parents live in different states, navigating child support laws can be complex. A lawyer can help ensure the proper jurisdiction is established and that child support is enforced across state lines.
  • Child support during custody disputes: If child custody and child support are being determined simultaneously, a lawyer can help ensure that both issues are resolved fairly and in the best interest of the child.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your child support case is handled effectively and that your child's financial needs are met.

What Does a Child Support Lawyer Do?

A child support lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents secure, modify, and enforce child support arrangements. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing for child support: A lawyer can help you initiate the legal process to obtain a child support order, ensuring that all necessary documentation is submitted and deadlines are met.
  • Calculating child support: A lawyer can help ensure that child support is calculated fairly based on both parents' incomes, the needs of the child, and other factors such as healthcare and education costs.
  • Negotiating child support agreements: If both parents are willing to negotiate, a lawyer can help facilitate an agreement on child support outside of court, which can then be approved by a judge.
  • Representing you in court: If negotiations fail or the other parent contests the child support amount, a lawyer will represent you in family court, presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Modifying support orders: A lawyer can help you file a request for modification if circumstances change, such as a loss of income or an increase in the child’s financial needs.
  • Enforcing child support: If the other parent is not making court-ordered payments, a lawyer can take legal steps to enforce the order through wage garnishment, property liens, or other measures.
  • Handling complex cases: In cases involving high incomes, self-employment, or complicated financial situations, a lawyer can help ensure that all relevant factors are considered in determining child support.

How Are Child Support Lawyers Paid?

Child support lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child support lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. The total cost will depend on how much time the lawyer spends on your case, including preparation, negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Flat fee: For more straightforward cases, such as uncontested child support agreements or basic modifications, some lawyers may offer a flat fee that covers all services related to the case.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount of the retainer depends on the expected complexity of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or provide pro bono (free) services in cases where clients cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially when children’s needs are at stake.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are covered.

How Much Does a Child Support Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child support lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, whether it's contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested child support cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and the lawyer’s fees.
  • Contested child support cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, especially if the case involves significant court time.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for child support cases, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases that involve complex financial issues.
  • Modification or enforcement: Fees for modifying or enforcing a child support order may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity and the need for court intervention.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation so you can plan your budget accordingly.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Support Lawyer

Before hiring a child support lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child support cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s establishing, modifying, or enforcing child support orders.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and any potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Child support cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors may cause delays.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. What documents should I prepare?
Ask the lawyer what financial documents and other information you should bring to help them calculate child support and build your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Support Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child support lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and have successfully handled child support cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on child support matters.
  • Check for certifications: Some lawyers may have certifications in family law or membership in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), which can indicate their expertise in child support and family law issues.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a child support lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Income documents: Bring pay stubs, tax returns, W-2s, or any other documentation of your income and the other parent’s income, as this will be used to calculate child support.
  • Existing child support orders: If there are any existing child support or custody orders, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Child-related expenses: Provide documentation of your child’s medical bills, education expenses, daycare costs, and any other expenses that should be factored into the child support calculation.
  • Communication with the other parent: Bring any communication between you and the other parent regarding child support, whether through emails, text messages, or written agreements.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer’s fees.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
