Jennifer and her group are excellent. After a year of representing me in my divorce proceedings my original attorney realized that my case was way too broad and complicated for her to handle, so she recommended Jennifer Frank. I then retained Jennifer after my meeting with her. She is very detailed, experienced and above all her communication is excellent in the court room. I was quite comfortable talking to her about my all my concerns. Jennifer saw my case to a successful end, even though my ex-husband was making it difficult and caused the case to prolong for longer than it should have been, Jennifer’s strategy was always successful to make him comply. Her group is also excellent. They are very prompt, and made sure I was kept in the loop and updated with all documents, proceedings etc. I would highly recommend Jennifer Frank and her group.

I worked with Jennifer through a long, contested divorce and a subsequent, related lawsuit. She carried the football for all sides. I'm not sure that any other attorney could have gotten through not only the mess but the emotional turmoil that was my divorce. I would highly recommend her over any other attorney in the Orlando area! She is THAT good.

I hired Julie Rountree after seven months of frustration and my case not moving forward. Julie and her team stepped in and started from scratch in accomplishing numerous tasks in a short period of time that were never completed by my previous attorney. Julie came up with a well thought out strategy in dealing with a difficult opposing counsel who was unresponsive. Julie is smart, caring, honest, and genuinely looked out for what was best for me. The end result exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend Julie to anyone that was in need of an empathetic, hard working attorney.

I hired Julie initially for my divorce, but she has since handled all matters from and relocation dispute and is currently handling my contempt case. She is on the ball and knowledgeable and gives you realistic expectations. She is very compassionate and understanding and a great listener. As far as the retainer is concerned she is worth every penny. I would recommend her to anyone. (except my ex-wife)

I called Alex’s office for a consultation when I was looking to retain counsel for a paternity suit. I had spoken with other reputable attorneys in town already and I was told by friends to call the Solomon Group. Alex was the lucky one to consult with me. Let me just start by saying, I’m not the easiest to deal with and I was going through some major life issues becoming a single mom with a demanding job and an ex that had been making life difficult. Alex took the time to answer my detailed questions and gave me examples of other cases where similar situations had happened. That showed me they had the experience to deal with my complex case and this wouldn’t be their first time. He did not rush me off the phone and he really took the time to understand my entire situation. I was even advised that I didn’t need to retain them until I was served since I wasn’t married, so that showed me they weren’t just trying to get a retainer out of me. I appreciated that approach as my job is in sales and I do not like to be “sold” something. The consultative approach was very much appreciated and I hired Alex and his group for my case. Alex and Matt were responsive to me throughout the entire case and when it came time for mediation, they were both by my side. I felt I had the best team defending me, my children and my home. This case involved real estate and Alex’s group was experienced enough to be able to handle both the family law and real estate portions. My case is settled now and although no one ever feels like they “won”, I feel that Alex and Matt helped get me a reasonable outcome and in an efficient amount of time so that I can move on with my life. I can’t thank Alex and Matt enough for their hard work. I would recommend hiring them to anyone in need of a family law attorney.

Dara is like family. I have no reservations on asking any question and we all at different times need someone in the legal community for that. Her knowledge of the law is extensive and covers all my business and personal needs. If its business or something personal I strongly suggest using someone you feel will be like family and their billing reflects that as well. I’ve had attorneys in the past who I was just a bill to now I have an attorney that I’m actually a client a person. Thankyou Dara

Jesse Berryman is representing me through a very long drawn out battle. He’s very efficient! He takes the time to listen to you and really cares about your case and what you’re going through. And this man will fight for you and for what you’re entitled for. My ex and I have history of domestic violence. Jesse is not my first attorney in this case. My ex, I believe is a narcissist and will continue to take me to court forever. While we were in court and we got breaks to use the bathroom Jesse made sure he came out with me every time and kept me within sight!!! I didn’t ask him to do this nor did I ever tell him I was uncomfortable to possibly run into my ex outside the courtroom. He took it upon himself to make sure that he was with me anytime I left the court room!!! Like I said he’s not my first attorney in this case but he is the first attorney that has ever done that! Jesse is so good that my ex’s attorney made a joke that if we didn’t get out of court before it was too late he was going to have to hire my attorney to represent him. I can’t speak highly enough about Jesse. He’s a shark and he will not just fight for you but he will give you the strength if needed to continue to fight when you have to. He’s very fair on his billing, i’ve learned you get what you pay for. He’s not the cheapest attorney around but you 100% get what you pay for! He does not run through your money unnecessarily and in my opinion does not bill for everything that he probably should! He takes so much time into my case and really cares and listens me when I speak to him. He’s just great and I highly recommend Jesse at The Schwartz Law Group.

I would recommend Jesse to ANYONE that wants an Attorney that goes out of his way for you. Jesse took care of everything for me, I didn't even step into the courtroom once. Jesse also knew my situation and not only did he do an excellent job, but he did everything from start to finish Pro-Bono, which saved me thousands from what I would have been charged by someone else that I just would not have been able to afford. He kept me informed every step of the way and and it gave me a piece of mind knowing he was always on the job. He is exceptional in every way and if you want to have someone fight for you from start to finish as hard as they can, he is the one to hire. If he reads this, "Jesse, you will never know how truly grateful I am, Thank You so much!!"

Sometimes life throws a bunch of things your way that necessitates not only hiring one lawyer, but possibly many. If you're at the point when you're looking for an appellate lawyer, please know you have my sympathy. It's a place I never thought I'd end up. Bill was one of three names that I was given by my attorney, and he was also the attorney who came up when I spoke to other attorneys and paralegals I knew. There really aren't that many who truly specialize in this field... who are Florida Bar rated in appellate law...and who've tried the number of cases Bill has before the Florida District Courts and even Florida Supreme Court. I found that some people who say they've done appeals, really haven't done all that many. You can actually research your potential attorneys on the 1dca.org website. It's a small bunch of those who are truly experienced. From the get-go, you know that you're talking to a person who has years of experience handling appeals and will truly do all he can for your case. He also promised me "brutal honesty" with regards to my case--which is something I respect. He's also a really nice guy. Appeals are not cheap, but Bill's hourly rate is, by all accounts, fair. Given the level of experience, he could easily charge more. My only regret is not consulting him sooner when it looked like an appeal may be likely. Don't make my same mistake. Update: Experience matters. There's a difference between 30 and 300 cases. There's a reason Bill's name is always included when attorneys are asked for an appellate lawyer recommendation. I knew he was experienced, but I didn't really get it until I read his work for my case. He meticulously chooses each word and crafts a well thought out argument with case law to back up his point of view. Comparing his work to those of my Ex's attorney--made it apparently clear that experience matters and his reputation is justified. We won, BTW.

I chose Brian Roberts as my lawyer because, in his words, he "is NOT the type of divorce attorney that pours gasoline on the fire." His intent is to separate two people fairly and as amicably as possible. I have a 13-year old son who is my whole world. Often there is a misconception that fathers have zero rights for custody and visitation. This is incorrect. Fathers have equal rights, and the state of FL emphasizes the importance of both parents involved in their childrens' lives. My divorce started out amicably, then descended into hell...as my wife hired an attorney who did nothing but "pour gasoline on the flames." Brian really knows the law and how to fight the tactics adopted by "bottom feeder" lawyers interested in nothing but increasing their fees. Brian and his Assistant helped me through this incredibly stressful period of my life...from keeping me informed of my rights, responding to my wife's lawyer's numerous attempts to delay and confuse the issue, and giving me last minute pointers one night when my visitation was threatened. I highly recomend Brian and the law firm of Roberts and Reiter, PA.

One of the few good guys in this business. He was very honest, he tried to settle because he was well aware that protracted litigation was going to do more harm than good, this speaks volumes of the quality of representation. Many other lawyers would have just let the litigation ride because at the end of the day that is how they make money, but he truly has his clients best interest in mind, not his own. He was very informed and honest as to costs and time frames. And very fare with billing.

What a Child Support Lawyer Can Do for You

A child support lawyer specializes in legal issues related to the financial support that one parent provides to another for the upbringing of their children. These lawyers assist with establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support orders, ensuring that the financial needs of the child are met, including housing, food, healthcare, education, and other essentials. A child support lawyer can also represent parents in disputes over the amount of support, ensure fair calculations based on income, and handle legal proceedings if one parent fails to meet their obligations.

Whether you're seeking to establish child support, modify an existing order, or enforce payments, a child support lawyer can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights and the well-being of your child.

When Should I Hire a Child Support Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child support lawyer when you need assistance with any of the following child support matters:

  • Establishing child support: If you are going through a divorce or separation and need to establish a child support order, a lawyer can help ensure that the support amount is fair and accurately calculated.
  • Modifying child support orders: If there has been a significant change in circumstances, such as a job loss, income change, or a child's financial needs, a lawyer can help you request a modification to the existing child support order.
  • Enforcing child support payments: If the other parent has failed to make court-ordered child support payments, a lawyer can help enforce the order through legal means such as wage garnishment, property liens, or even legal action.
  • Disputing child support calculations: If you believe the child support amount has been incorrectly calculated based on your income or expenses, a lawyer can help you challenge the calculation and seek a fair adjustment.
  • Paternity disputes: If paternity needs to be established before child support can be ordered, a lawyer can assist with DNA testing and legal proceedings.
  • Interstate child support cases: If the parents live in different states, navigating child support laws can be complex. A lawyer can help ensure the proper jurisdiction is established and that child support is enforced across state lines.
  • Child support during custody disputes: If child custody and child support are being determined simultaneously, a lawyer can help ensure that both issues are resolved fairly and in the best interest of the child.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your child support case is handled effectively and that your child's financial needs are met.

What Does a Child Support Lawyer Do?

A child support lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents secure, modify, and enforce child support arrangements. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing for child support: A lawyer can help you initiate the legal process to obtain a child support order, ensuring that all necessary documentation is submitted and deadlines are met.
  • Calculating child support: A lawyer can help ensure that child support is calculated fairly based on both parents' incomes, the needs of the child, and other factors such as healthcare and education costs.
  • Negotiating child support agreements: If both parents are willing to negotiate, a lawyer can help facilitate an agreement on child support outside of court, which can then be approved by a judge.
  • Representing you in court: If negotiations fail or the other parent contests the child support amount, a lawyer will represent you in family court, presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Modifying support orders: A lawyer can help you file a request for modification if circumstances change, such as a loss of income or an increase in the child’s financial needs.
  • Enforcing child support: If the other parent is not making court-ordered payments, a lawyer can take legal steps to enforce the order through wage garnishment, property liens, or other measures.
  • Handling complex cases: In cases involving high incomes, self-employment, or complicated financial situations, a lawyer can help ensure that all relevant factors are considered in determining child support.

How Are Child Support Lawyers Paid?

Child support lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child support lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. The total cost will depend on how much time the lawyer spends on your case, including preparation, negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Flat fee: For more straightforward cases, such as uncontested child support agreements or basic modifications, some lawyers may offer a flat fee that covers all services related to the case.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount of the retainer depends on the expected complexity of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or provide pro bono (free) services in cases where clients cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially when children’s needs are at stake.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are covered.

How Much Does a Child Support Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child support lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, whether it's contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested child support cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and the lawyer’s fees.
  • Contested child support cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, especially if the case involves significant court time.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for child support cases, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases that involve complex financial issues.
  • Modification or enforcement: Fees for modifying or enforcing a child support order may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity and the need for court intervention.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation so you can plan your budget accordingly.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Support Lawyer

Before hiring a child support lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child support cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s establishing, modifying, or enforcing child support orders.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and any potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Child support cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors may cause delays.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. What documents should I prepare?
Ask the lawyer what financial documents and other information you should bring to help them calculate child support and build your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Support Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child support lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and have successfully handled child support cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on child support matters.
  • Check for certifications: Some lawyers may have certifications in family law or membership in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), which can indicate their expertise in child support and family law issues.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a child support lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Income documents: Bring pay stubs, tax returns, W-2s, or any other documentation of your income and the other parent’s income, as this will be used to calculate child support.
  • Existing child support orders: If there are any existing child support or custody orders, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Child-related expenses: Provide documentation of your child’s medical bills, education expenses, daycare costs, and any other expenses that should be factored into the child support calculation.
  • Communication with the other parent: Bring any communication between you and the other parent regarding child support, whether through emails, text messages, or written agreements.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer’s fees.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
