I had the horrible pleasure of coming in contact with Mr. Edmond O'suji through a referral. In all my years I never seen such fraud, deceit and misrepresentation so much before in my life. This attorney has been deemed negligent, he failed to allow or advise me on proper process or ethical process of my case, he accepted a plea without my knowledge, he entered into a financial arrangement regarding my case without communicating anything to me. As a result my integrity and my case has been compromised. Future word of advice to any future prospects that are considering retaining this gentleman. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself the headache of dealing with dishonest attorney that will make provisions and accept pleas without your knowledge. He does not care about the consumer and has been known to misinform clients for his own gain.

This attorney did not respond. Many of my emails/questions have gone unanswered for weeks and some have gone months without a response. He was hired to help with a modification of an order but upon his first draft, there were errors and missing content which we previously discussed in detail both via email and phone. I had to file a complaint with his law firm in order to finally receive a response and an updated draft of my paperwork. Eventually, I had to terminate his services and he did not acknowledge this request. Two months later I received an email from him stating he may have to withdraw (and bill for that email). I had to forward my previously sent email back to him so that he could see I already asked him to withdraw. Overall, I am very disappointed and feel that the value for service did not match the thousands of dollars I paid.

I made an appointment for a traffic ticket with Jaime Sylvester & he was 25 mins late without a call to say he was running late. We sat down for 10 mins for him to tell me what the ticket read. I paid $75 not to know sll my options. He didn't know the law for the city I received the ticket & misinformed on all my options when I go to court. I called to inform him I was dissatisfied with consultation & he became very loud & rude. Be careful who you choose not all attorneys are knowledgable. He was waste of time & money.

Over $10,000 was billed and then he left my case without notifying me. My opinion, observation, and experience are that my case was not handled properly despite the overpriced bill I've paid them. Bryan Fagan Law Firm & assigned attorney was not prepared; was not up to date on my case details, and did not properly represent me in court, In fact, I didn't witness any effort or desire to win. After my trial, I reached out to the law firm for clarity - and despite four (4) attempts to contact Bryan Fagan Law Firm, via email and their chat services I have not heard back from anyone except their billing department.

My criminal case was dismissed & all charges were VACATED by court since the state was meritless. so I hired her to file civil lawsuit against city. it should have been the easiest case since state have no basis to charge me. Deshonda made a simple but critical error on her fillings which caused my civil case dismissed. I asked her and paid to file USC 1983 civil rights violation which has 2 yrs statute of limitation. our civil case was filed 18 mon after the criminal csse. on the paper work she filed USC 1983 malicious prosecution which only has 1 yr statute of limitation. defense easily urgued that this case cannot proceed since she mentioned malicious prosecution when the case was filed after one yr. therefore my case dismissed n money wasted. will never recommend her to anyone.

After meeting Mrs. Richards in person I found out she was very rude and unprofessional. As a client I didn't enjoy being talked down to or hearing her talk down to others around her. I choose not to allow her to continue to representing me. The last thing I wanted was for people to view me as being like her. Someone belittling others should not deal with the public in anyway. I was able to see first hand what people say about attorneys are sadly true!

He is absolutely the worst lawyer you can imagine. Only get in touch with you when he needs you to pay, and no response months after that. He will always tell you something needs a month, or he is working on it, or some other excuses, and next thing you know it takes almost two years for a simple case. Completely waste of money and time. Very unprofessional. Stay away from him. I will give him negative stars if I could.

When I first decided to hire him, communication was amazing. As soon as he received my $1,000 EVERYTHING went down the drain. He gives me ZERO updates - I have to reach out every week or so, all while my ex is still taking my child support for my child who hasn’t resided with him in almost 3 months. Even when I reach out, it takes DAYS to get a response, IF I get a response (currently waiting 4 days for the reply to my “any updates?” email because I hadn’t heard from him in over a week) - and they’re usually very short barely informative emails. Never any calls. My company referred me to him and I was desperate, so I didn’t do my research as I would normally have. I checked court records a few days ago and he hasn’t even FILED with the court yet. I hired him on 6/9 - 2 months ago. I am DEEPLY regretting that decision, but I don’t have the money to hire a better lawyer now. I’d give him 0 stars if I could.

I am a client of Daniel B. Weber i have been his client since February 2016. it's been 7 months and counting being his client. I have repeatedly ask him for updates and info for my case. I have emails where he says 1 thing but doesn't come thru on them. I've even once taken off from work to drive to his business which is maybe 50 miles or more. only to get a 20 minute conversation which concluded with him telling me he would call me later that day when he talked to opposing counsel. I didn't receive a call or email for about 3 weeks. This has been my major issue with him..he says he's going to call or email me back, but he doesn't. I've paid him his fee but hasn't got the satisfaction from his services. Now I'm on here to ask for a refund since I have not received what I've paid for.

I was 20 (now 27) when I mustered up the courage to talk to this woman. My mom and dad were splitting up, and I truly didn’t want to take sides because I felt like I’d be betraying one over the other, but in my heart I knew my mom was the one who deserved custody over my siblings. Because while my father was the one who financially supported us, my MOTHER was the one who RAISED us and had done EVERYTHING for us. Cooking, cleaning, taking us to school, showing up at school events, taking us to do our sports. Anything you can think, she did. So when I finally built up the courage to talk to this woman, and told her in blatant terms that mom was the one who deserved custody. She did…. nothing. She did not bring up anything that I had said in court. It’s 9 years counting and I’ve basically had to do everything my mom has done. I’ve cooked and cleaned for my sister, taken her to school, I’ve essentially have become her parent. All because Lorraine decided my opinion as the oldest child didn’t matter. I would not recommend this attorney at all.

Photos of bruises on the child by the father. complaints by psychologist to CPS. The father was doing medicaid fraud. With 5 criminal felonies and DWI. She said it was better than the girl lived with the father because the mother was giving the wrong message to the girl, for claiming the teacher for some discipline applied by the teacher .. The girl sent to live with her father.

I hired Ernestine Carter before there was a way to review businesses and she does not even deserve 1 star. She should be disbarred and jailed for theft and neglect for not doing her lawful duties. I was young, very vulnerable, naive and hired her for thousands of dollars. We filed against my ex-husband for revision of previous child custody orders. After preparing with her for weeks, we came to court and she was blatantly; appeared to be purposefully unprepared. She irrogantly walked into the courtroom empty-handed and had the audacity to ask if she could use all the documentation I brought into court as she walked up to present my case. I was shocked and that is when I realized she did not care, but handed her my file anyway. I ensured she had copies of everything she needed to present my case weeks in advance. Keep in mind "we filed" for revision of previous orders. She did not even get a chance to present my case. I was in total shock and disbelief when I ended up in handcuffs and jailed for 4 days due to the opposing attorney finding a "frivolous loophole" for contempt of the original order from the previous year or so. This had to do with my being 1 month late paying child support 1.5- 2 yrs back, but all payments were current and up to date from that one late occurrence, so they held me in violation of the previous orders for being 1 month late. This was all the court heard. Ernie did not say a word. I was in shock and speechless. Ernie did not defend me in any way or form. I am an educated professional who works in the medical field and always try to do what is right and fair. I cannot explain the humiliation, the emotional trauma and how wrong this whole court case and jail process was. The court system and my own attorney horribly failed/ wronged me and my children. After this was over, and I was out thousands of dollars. I consulted a different attorney who was shocked at what had occurred and explained to me Ernie could have prevented me from going to jail and the case would have had a completely different outcome, if she would have just done her job. The only thing she did correctly and took thousands from me in the process, was take my vehicle and park it at her homeoffice so it would not get impounded. What a hefty price to pay! Stay clear! She'll take your money and has no ethic whatsoever! I wished they had reviews at that time. Do your research before hiring anyone. Ernie talks a big talk, but once in the courtroom, she could careless since she makes sure she has been paid in full before ever stepping into the courtroom.

Failed to file divorce documents as per my instructions for joint child custody. Refused to refund retainer when we subsequently fired her for not meeting her contractual agreement. Ms. Carter is barely literate. Do not have her write anything for you. Her writing is full of grammar and spelling errors.

I hired Mr. Brandon Roy (and his partner Alex Houthuijzen) as part of the Royal Trial Attorney team. They were referenced to me by a legal organization. I didn't really get to speak with Mr. Brandon Roy that much when he had my case. He rarely communicated with me. I only heard from him twice. The first time was when he presented me with his so-called big evidence for the grand jury packet. That consisted of only two hearsay sentences from a non-witness. And the second time was via a text. The text was of him harassing me to pay more than the agreed amount and to pay earlier than the agreed date. I felt harassed because he was asking for things we had not agreed to in the contract. Other than that, he never spoke to me. It made me feel like I wasn't an important enough client for him to pay attention to. Even though he didn't do a good job his partner either, Alex Houthuijzen was the only one I saw doing any work. They had wasted precious time. When their grand jury packet failed to get my case dismissed....I decided it was time to look for a new attorney. If I had stayed with Brandon Roy and his partner, my life would be very different today. They would have certainly lost my case. Firing Brandon Roy and the Royal Trial Attorney team was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made for my life. I ended up replacing him with a one of the top 10 criminal defense lawyers in Houston. And they told me that not only did he do a number of things wrong, but that he had only been practicing law for a couple years prior.

What a Child Support Lawyer Can Do for You

A child support lawyer specializes in legal issues related to the financial support that one parent provides to another for the upbringing of their children. These lawyers assist with establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support orders, ensuring that the financial needs of the child are met, including housing, food, healthcare, education, and other essentials. A child support lawyer can also represent parents in disputes over the amount of support, ensure fair calculations based on income, and handle legal proceedings if one parent fails to meet their obligations.

Whether you're seeking to establish child support, modify an existing order, or enforce payments, a child support lawyer can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights and the well-being of your child.

When Should I Hire a Child Support Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child support lawyer when you need assistance with any of the following child support matters:

  • Establishing child support: If you are going through a divorce or separation and need to establish a child support order, a lawyer can help ensure that the support amount is fair and accurately calculated.
  • Modifying child support orders: If there has been a significant change in circumstances, such as a job loss, income change, or a child's financial needs, a lawyer can help you request a modification to the existing child support order.
  • Enforcing child support payments: If the other parent has failed to make court-ordered child support payments, a lawyer can help enforce the order through legal means such as wage garnishment, property liens, or even legal action.
  • Disputing child support calculations: If you believe the child support amount has been incorrectly calculated based on your income or expenses, a lawyer can help you challenge the calculation and seek a fair adjustment.
  • Paternity disputes: If paternity needs to be established before child support can be ordered, a lawyer can assist with DNA testing and legal proceedings.
  • Interstate child support cases: If the parents live in different states, navigating child support laws can be complex. A lawyer can help ensure the proper jurisdiction is established and that child support is enforced across state lines.
  • Child support during custody disputes: If child custody and child support are being determined simultaneously, a lawyer can help ensure that both issues are resolved fairly and in the best interest of the child.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your child support case is handled effectively and that your child's financial needs are met.

What Does a Child Support Lawyer Do?

A child support lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents secure, modify, and enforce child support arrangements. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing for child support: A lawyer can help you initiate the legal process to obtain a child support order, ensuring that all necessary documentation is submitted and deadlines are met.
  • Calculating child support: A lawyer can help ensure that child support is calculated fairly based on both parents' incomes, the needs of the child, and other factors such as healthcare and education costs.
  • Negotiating child support agreements: If both parents are willing to negotiate, a lawyer can help facilitate an agreement on child support outside of court, which can then be approved by a judge.
  • Representing you in court: If negotiations fail or the other parent contests the child support amount, a lawyer will represent you in family court, presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Modifying support orders: A lawyer can help you file a request for modification if circumstances change, such as a loss of income or an increase in the child’s financial needs.
  • Enforcing child support: If the other parent is not making court-ordered payments, a lawyer can take legal steps to enforce the order through wage garnishment, property liens, or other measures.
  • Handling complex cases: In cases involving high incomes, self-employment, or complicated financial situations, a lawyer can help ensure that all relevant factors are considered in determining child support.

How Are Child Support Lawyers Paid?

Child support lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child support lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. The total cost will depend on how much time the lawyer spends on your case, including preparation, negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Flat fee: For more straightforward cases, such as uncontested child support agreements or basic modifications, some lawyers may offer a flat fee that covers all services related to the case.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount of the retainer depends on the expected complexity of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or provide pro bono (free) services in cases where clients cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially when children’s needs are at stake.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are covered.

How Much Does a Child Support Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child support lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, whether it's contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested child support cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and the lawyer’s fees.
  • Contested child support cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, especially if the case involves significant court time.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for child support cases, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases that involve complex financial issues.
  • Modification or enforcement: Fees for modifying or enforcing a child support order may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity and the need for court intervention.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation so you can plan your budget accordingly.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Support Lawyer

Before hiring a child support lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child support cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s establishing, modifying, or enforcing child support orders.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and any potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Child support cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors may cause delays.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. What documents should I prepare?
Ask the lawyer what financial documents and other information you should bring to help them calculate child support and build your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Support Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child support lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and have successfully handled child support cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on child support matters.
  • Check for certifications: Some lawyers may have certifications in family law or membership in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), which can indicate their expertise in child support and family law issues.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a child support lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Income documents: Bring pay stubs, tax returns, W-2s, or any other documentation of your income and the other parent’s income, as this will be used to calculate child support.
  • Existing child support orders: If there are any existing child support or custody orders, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Child-related expenses: Provide documentation of your child’s medical bills, education expenses, daycare costs, and any other expenses that should be factored into the child support calculation.
  • Communication with the other parent: Bring any communication between you and the other parent regarding child support, whether through emails, text messages, or written agreements.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer’s fees.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
