I first met Mr Ross several years ago when I hired him on a civil rights claim against the City. That claim was later settled and I have since hired Mr. Ross on a criminal matter for a family member and recommended him to friends on other matters. Everyone I know has always been impressed by his knowledge and understanding of the law. Of course as Mr. Ross will tell you every case is different and there is never a promise of any outcome. My experiance however tells me that if your going to take a chance then there is no greater lawyer to trust then Mr. Ross.

I got a court appointed attorney 3 times for a case I was dealing with and all were amazing. Steven Otero was one of these attorneys and they all worked together great while Steven Otero studied my case and came up with the best advice and solution for my case in the most professional and timely manner I could hope for, WHILE dealing with a multitude of other cases. I am so grateful for someone like Steven who stopped to do research from evidence provided to make a solid possibility and outcome of my case that others would have overlooked or ignored THANK YOU STEVEN!!!!!

I had an insurance claim that the insurance company quickly denied coverage for. An attorney friend referred Mr. Les Robertson to me because he's an expert in insurance coverage and has a great reputation. Since the first conversation, Mr. Robertson was warm, empathetic, and very clear at explaining the law related to my situation. He told me the insurance should have provided the coverage and was willing to help. In a surprise turn, the insurance company changed their mind a couple of days later and decided to cover for the claim. I didn't need to work with Mr Robertson further but I will not hesitate at all to reach out to him again if there is a need. Highly recommend him!

My case was complicated to say the least. My charges were numerous, and were heard in three different court rooms. Steven had his hands full dealing with different prosecutors, judges, and my mom, who by the way is also a hand full. There were deals offered that seamed appealing to me at the time, all things considered, and would undoubtedly relieve my attorney of mountains of motions to file, and court appearances in three cities. The easy road would have been the one most traveled by most attorneys in his shoes. But the longer harder road payed off, and I ended up home with my family much sooner than anyone had imagined, and much sooner than the prosecutors were intending. Steven Valerio is a very hard working, honest, dedicated lawyer, who would rather work more, and for the same pay, to get his clients the absolute very best representation possible, than work less, for the same pay, and just do nothing more than what he is obligated to. Which is very often the case with hired representation, who can rase the fee as the work load gets heavier. It wasn't just the money I saved, it was my life. He will fight for your freedom, and he will give you piece of mind knowing you have an attorney you can trust and rely on. Thanks again Steve.

My mom and dad (best parents ever!) Decided to hire Barry for my cases. I just found out, Barrys first name is James! Wow! Well i ended up getting 4 months in LA county for not signing up for a DV class (at time was homeless, and currently still homeless!) . What a great job. Oh i also got a DUI , but not only did we not fight it (no officers ever saw me drive) but i did 3 days in county during my 4 month sentence, and i still have to tak dui classes (they lock me inside for 2 hours) and substance abuse classes, which is great, because i am still wondering where my 2011 cadillac escalade is that my mom possibly stole from me , and my audi A6 too... but hey, who cares because i am just so ecstatic i ate dinner tonight(oh wait no dinner, i got fat so i gotta no eat now. Thanks again today to my psych eval (and my call back from my regular psychs call back center) thanks Depakote!

I felt so lost and he help ground me and assure that if we needed to fight to the end he will do so. Thank you so much for your great wisdom and support. Morgan Janssen is extremely intelligent and very personable. It was invaluable to have him there as my defender and an advisor during this rough ordeal. Kathleen helped me tremendously during a false domestic accusation. She took an individualized and client friendly approach making it seem as if i was her only client. To not be grouped in with others in my situation meant so much to me. I hold her in very high regard and would absolutely recommend her to anyone who's in need of a highly respected attorney. I don't put myself out for most former employees of mine so this is out of character. I felt an obligation to do this due to her work for me and others as well. Thanks Kathleen Natividad!

Mrs. Barbara Brand represented me in getting me resentenced. My chances were slim and I didn't think it would happen so I never cared to hear the outcome i never called her to find out the outcome I assumed I lost. I didnt know that due to covid the court date was postponed until many months later I received a letter from her office saying I was resentenced and I would be going home 5 years early. She was amazing. My mother was a police officer and most of my family is in law enforcement but after my ordeal I no longer trust law enforcement nor the justice system and I had an incompetent attorney originally and was sentenced to 9 yrs on a crime that holds a 2 yr sentence. This firm brought back a piece of my trust. Thank you.

I highly recommend Holly for anyone that is unfortunate enough to have a family member arrested for a federal crime. She took the time to get to know our son, and made sure we all knew what was going on with his case. He ended up doing a lot less time that we thought, and he is now back at school, with his life back on track. I can't thank her enough for the work she did for us!

Highly Recommend!! Mr. Jingozian is a respectful professional amazing attorney. Having an arrest on your record could have a negative impact on you for the rest of your life. Not to mention embarrassment humiliation and most likely loss of any future advancement in career. Mr. Jingozian wrote a great petition under the newly Penal code 851.91, accepted to work and study this new code to help me, and after a professional convincing conversation with the judge. i have been GRANTED the approval. That is why you should speak to an experienced criminal defense attorney like him for cleaning your criminal arrest record.

The case I use to have back in 2012 was a car accident. The attorney I use to have at that time told me that he is not able to do much about my case and it will take a long time, but I was referred to Mr. Manukyan and he did his best for such a short time and got me a very satisfying end of all this. Thank you.

Donna is a well-respected, reputable criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles County. She is empathetic and savvy. I was charged with a very serious charge, and she advised me to waive the preliminary hearing and set the matter straight for trial. I followed her advice, although I was nervous to have this very serious matter set for trial. Based on Ms. Tryfman's experience, she advised that the witnesses will not show for trial based on the totality of the cricumstances. She was right! Not only did she get my bail reduced from over 1 million dollars to $200K, she got my case dismissed! I know any other attorney would have continued the matter ad nauseum. Donna is a combo of savvy, grit, and smarts all rolled into the best criminal defense attorney there is!

On my first court appearance, I was offered a rediculous deal which included prison time. Mrs. Kumaus explained the situation and moved to take the situation to trial. I ended up taking a deal with probation. She not only faught to have my charges removed once in the court room, but tried five different dismissals. She is a very good lawyer and believes in fighting for the rights of her client no matter what situation is behind them. I appreciated her empathy and her respect for what I wanted. If you do get her as a lawyer rest assure that your in good hands when offered your final plea. Thank you again for your help

All I can say is if you need an attorney, these guys are worth every penny. I was stressed and anxious, but my attorney Victor kept me calm, informed me, and at times, even corrected me to reach the best outcome in my case. A woman filed a retaliatory restraining order against me with a bunch of lies !! After weeks of working with my attorney Victor, we appeared in court, and the judge dropped the case. Thanks, Victor, for all your support! I couldn’t have done it without your hard work and patience! I also appreciated being heard and that he cared about my worries and my future! God bless you in many ways for all your hard work and kindness with people going through difficult times!

I acquired Victor Nasser's services via CSUB's expungement clinic. Mr. Nasser worked with me through several issues, including last minute venue changes, ultimately helping me clear an unsightly blemish off my record. I cannot express this enough; his actions have been nothing short of life changing to me. I cannot thank this man enough. Recently my son went to trial and I am so grateful that Lindsey was his attorney. She is very dedicated, reliable, and her professional legal skills , knowledge, , trust worthiness, sincerity, support, and patients made a very difficult time much easier and gave me my faith back that there are people who genuinely care, She always returned calls, kept us informed, even if it took many times to explain things or answer questions. Her assertiveness, determination, and integrity in the court room gave me comfort in knowing we got the best lawyer, who had my son's interest, which she stayed focussed on, doing things, using techniques that ultimately brought out the words "Not Guilty", "Not Guilty", "Not Guilty". I would definately recommend her. Thank you Lindsey for all your hard work, and for going above and beyond..........Deborah Casey

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
