At the age of 22, I was sentenced to 50 yrs. to Life. I felt hopeless, sad, depressed and not wanting to think about freedom anymore. It was a miracle when I met Cori. Throughout my 20 yrs. of incarceration, Cori have been by my side for 15 yrs. She provided hope, encouragement, and most importantly support. Due to Cori's hard work and effort my 50 yrs. to life sentence was reduced to 40 yrs. to life. But Cori didn't stop there, she believed and cared about me and eventually I was resentenced to 15 yrs. to life. Within 6 months, I was scheduled to appear before the Board of Parole Hearings, and Cori continued to be there and represent me. Ultimately, I was found suitable for parole on my initial hearing and I am FREE today because of her. Without Cori, I would've been lost, not knowing what to do, and still feel hopeless. Many people who are system -impacted have a mistrust for attorneys but for me I trust Cori. She is determine, committed, and compassionate. I am forever grateful to have Cori as my attorney. Julia is a great lawyer, and has the skills and personality you want to represent you and negotiate on your behalf. My case involved a settled outcome that satisfied the prosecutor, and she was just brilliant at that. She is very responsive and gave me good advice early in my case, of course. But after the initial stage, she really went into overdrive, and recognized that she had an opportunity with this prosecutor to get my case dismissed. She knew an expert who did an effective evaluation and used another expert also in an artful way. She was correct that this would satisfy the prosecutor, and made it happen.
She's one of those rare high-EQ people that works so well with persons, but who uses the rapport she builds to get a good outcome. She had a great strategy, and inspired a lot of confidence.
I would hire her for any lawyer work, but also for any negotiation, which I think requires even more skill and talent.

Tracy gave excellent advice on a number of criminal charges that I had in California forty-six years ago. She instructed me to get a record and she found that I had no convictions except one, which unbeknownst to me, was expunged. This old record came up when I applied for a trusted traveler card. When I had questions, she answered them promptly. Her price was fair. I highly recommend her.

I had been stopped for DUI, I got arrested and waited a whole year and no charges were brought against me. I contacted Mr. Pokorny's office and the said they would advise on what to do next. Mr. Pokorny called and to my surprise he returned all of my money that I had given him in the beginning!! He did not charge me for any of the dealing or conversations in the beginning when I was first arrested. Great Job!!!

Upon contacting Mr. James Pokorny's office, having used him when I was dealing with a juvenile violation, he was responsive and helped me resolve the case with a strong offer from the DA. Well, 10+ years later I received a Drunk in Public, and Mr. Pokorny and his associate Michele Gardenier again were there to help get me out of the situation. Pokorny referred me to one of his junior lawyers, Mr. Erik Bruner, who was absolutely fabulous.
Mr. Bruner had a close and respectful relationship with the City Attorney, making her more amenable to negotiation given the mutual respect. I had a pretty ugly police report, resulting from my attitude towards the officers which included slipping my (thin) wrists from the handcuffs twice, making rude/obnoxious comments, kicking and screaming, the whole gamut. Mr. Bruner managed to get me out of the situation largely scott free. He was able to get the DA to agree to entirely dismiss the case, as if nothing had ever occurred, provided I simply attend a few AA or NA meetings over a pre-specified time period. Very happy with this result. Had previously considered another attorney who acted as if the case would be impossible to get a reasonable deal, so I was shocked when Mr. Bruner was able to so quickly negotiate such an agreeable conclusion, after which my entire case disappears! I was shocked he was able to get such an attractive offer, in short time. GREAT ATTORNEYS, BOTH ERIK AND JAMES POKORNY!
ALSO, GREAT ASSOCIATE IN MICHELE GARDENIER, WHO WORKS FOR MR. POKORNY AND MR. BRUNER AND HANDLES MOST (IF NOT ALL) OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF THE CASE; SHE IS REALLY ON TOP IT!
My opinions here are particularly useful to someone evaluating a prospective attorney, as I had initially used a different attorney who failed to attend several required appearances; acted as if the case was impossible to overcome without harsh penalties; and clearly ran a lackluster operation from an administrative standpoint, hence the failed appearances discussed in the foregoing. I found it to be a huge relief once I had switched to Pokorny's offices and was working with Michele Gardenier, Erik Bruner and James Pokorny.
GREAT FIRM, 100% RECOMMENDED.

In the past I've had a few less than perfect family law experiences. In my mind, James Casey reset those standards and set the bar high.
