It is such a shame to see a brand new mom being charged with a felony. She sleeps with her child on the first night home and instead of showing empathy, you charge her? Do you not think she is punishing herself every second for this accident? What is happening to this world? Anyone involved in this should really take a hard look at themselves. Shameful.

The district attorney refused to take a clear fraud case. A babysitter steals a check and writes herself a $1000 check forges a signature and the DA sees no clear case ??!?!!? That’s ridiculous. I’m no law expert but I think starting with forgery and larceny charges is a good place.

These inept clowns are more concerned about getting wrongful convictions, then actually investigating anything, to see if they are prosecuting based upon Lies. They Coached my Sister how to Lie in Court, then Judge only allowed part of 9/11 tape to be played, ensuring a conviction on me. Judge also corrected sister's Lie in Court, to collaperate with statement!!! There are Truthful reviews up on Courts & Sheriff's Dept as well!!! Bunch of Criminals who ruin lives, & have no interest in justice at all!!!

I am deeply disappointed in the performance of District Attorney Brian Mason. His handling of the case involving Jeremey Rocha has been nothing short of a miscarriage of justice. Despite clear evidence pointing to multiple shooters and a history of violent behavior by Johnathan Jaros, Mason failed to conduct a thorough investigation. Instead, he unjustly sentenced Jeremey to life without parole for defending himself. The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office, which represents the people of Adams and Broomfield Counties, is supposed to seek justice on behalf of crime victims and their families. It's disheartening to see such poor judgment in the people hired to serve and protect our community. How could Adams and Broomfield Counties allow someone like Brian Mason, who was elected in November 2020 and assumed office in January 2021, to be the chief law enforcement officer? Brian Mason's actions suggest a troubling pattern of corruption and incompetence. We must revisit any other cases he has overseen as DA, as his conduct raises serious concerns about the integrity of the justice system under his leadership. The people of the 17th Judicial District deserve better. The office, which prides itself on reforming the criminal justice system, needs to reassess its commitment to true justice and accountability.

Armando Aguilar did not respond timely to me or to my attorney, but he repeatedly threatened legal action if I didn't respond to his requests in a prompt and timely matter (which he made virtually impossible to do).  He and his client hired a company to replace the shared sewer line in spite of our repeated requests to look at other, similarly priced companies with better online reviews.  Armando missed several meetings with my lawyer, and then said that he had tried to call so that he could cover his tracks for missing the scheduled meeting.  These missed meeting costs were then passed on to me, while the matter itself continued to go unresolved.  Avoid him at all costs. He's sleazy. It's also strange that there are no online reviews of them.  I'm guessing he'll try some kind of retribution for this review...

I think he forgets he works for clients. He is very unapproachable, and agressive with his clients. I’d expect that would have been good for any opposition, but according to his reputation, ‘tis not the case. If you want to spend $5000 on someone who has no interest in actually doing anything, and gives legal advice that is incorrect, by all mean - hire him. Glad we had a B plan!

To start, he would frequently forget details of our case. It was obvious some of his paperwork was copy and pasted because reading through it, he would mix up the sex of the client he was writing about, i.e. "she" instead of "he." His paralegal, also his wife, seemed to do most of the leg work. He also frequently made snide remarks about the other party's lawyer, which was completely unprofessional. Finally, on the big day, he needed an hour recess because he was working another case at the same time we were in court! Court took only an hour excluding the recess during which he was phone conferencing another case, and charged us for a full two hours! He came with a list of questions he was going to ask right before we went into court... which did not seem to make any sense and half of which were not even asked, and charged us for that too! During court, he was not even paying attention to what the other lawyer was asking (on either side), was side talking with his paralegal the entire time, and at one point actually left the courtroom. How disrespectful! We had given some evidence to him regarding the other party which only made us look ridiculous in court... which I would have thought that after being in practice for so long, he would have known it was senseless to bring it in. This, among other things, seriously questioned his level of competence. No wonder the judge did not rule in our favor. Then when we brought up our concerns afterward, his response was simply that nobody gets what they want and at least the other party didn't get as much money as they anticipated. He must have missed the part about how this was not about money but about the care and safety of a little girl! Now we are stuck with a $3k bill after a $1500 retainer. Just unbelievable.

This office is not professional. Trust me when I say stay away from this attorney's office! Sure they seem to care and be professional at first but once you give them money it is a whole different story. I lost my appeal with child support. Then I said ok we can do another appeal but the attorney wrote me an a email saying I would lose and no longer be representing me because I was upset they wrote a terrible appeal in the first place! They turned in an appeal last minute to the court as well as overcharged me for telling them they forgot certain detail and to fix some grammatical errors.

As a family dispute lawyer Judge Henson is a far cry from fair and equitable. He is definable on every man's side railroading housewives, women, caregivers, working or not its never good enough for him. He is ok with men violating illegal pendancy actions. He supports men not caring for their children during not only pendancy action but also during major pandemic's. In fact he rewards men for it. Of course also believes that women probably do not know much about vehicles, values or could even enjoy them... that's only for men of course. Cases are rush and proper testimony not given, yet orders created out of chaos. Judge Henson has NO idea/familiarity about Union Benefits. He allows for men to double dip on credits/benefits etc that put already economically challenged women at even greater risk for being mistreated. Thus in favor of putting unfair challenges also in minor children of fathers who want to not be held accountable for having children. Judge Henson may have been a good lawyer, decent criminal Judge, however, HE IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST DOMESTIC RELATIONS JUDGE EL PASO COUNTY HAS.

I was a bystander in a case involving a potential rape. This Lawyer Martin Jeffery Flaum II was willing to waste our tax dollars and the defendant's time and money by prolonging the case even though he was more then aware that there was no physical evidence (DNA) and proceeded to continue with a trial that should have been thrown out of court. In attempt to try to get a conviction Martin Jeffery Flaum offered Mr. Fraser plea to a much lesser charge to get a conviction. Todd Fraser was not stupid enough to plea to this charge. I believe that this type of treatment is not a professional way of doing business. I believe that court was set up to convict the people at fault and not to attempt to pressure people into making a plea to something that they were never a part of. Martin also would send out subpoenas to people and then the case would be continued and would not contact you. This is as disrespectful of tax payers time and money as it gets. This seems to be the type of treatment that many people are frustrated with the court system. Even after four times that I spoke with Martin, he continue to be disrespectful in this way. He was real pleasant to speak with. A real smooth talker. When I spoke with him he laughed and said,"I hope you had a nice day off from work". This is not how I think we should be treating others. This is as if I invited you to a meeting I was in charge of and I cancelled the meeting and did not inform anyone that the meeting was cancelled. People take off work (Some without pay) to attend these hearings and miss work and he thinks it is funny. Real funny. If you like this type of treatment then you need to hire Martin.

My major complaints with this attorney and firm are: Lack of responsiveness to emails or voice mails, took many days to respond to a simple question. Lack of preparedness for hearing. I was not brief or prepared that I would be questioned during my hearing, but I was. She argued a stance that had no legal validation, and had not researched it. Privacy broken when interns were brought into my case on two different occasion. (the first time I said yes, not knowing they were high school students that went to my son's school). Billing - 4 weeks after firing this attorney I still can't receive an invoice or a refund for the services not rendered.

This lawyer was hired for a landlord/tenant matter where I am the tenant and Robert Pavelko charged me a $500 retainer to work on my case and he told me the cost shouldn't exceed $500 and whatever is not used would be refunded. I told him to call me before he made any charges above $500 and he did not. And so, I got billed for another $218. Then he asked for a second $500 retainer to work on drafting a settlement. I paid the $218 I owed plus an additional $141 to go toward the retainer for drafting a settlement. I told him I would send him the other portion of the $500 retainer if a settlement is reached and a settlement letter needs to be drafted. AGAIN, I told him to please contact me before making any future charges and he failed to contact me once again and now he says I owe $309! No settlement was reached! He charged me for the day of cancellation and AFTER! Got the bill today and told him I was going to file a complaint and he is threatening to put a lien on my property TODAY! Robert Pavelko is not good. I trusted that I could give him money in advance and that he wouldn't make any unauthorized charges, but he did. Robert Pavelko is not responsive. After I paid him the $218 plus $141 for the retainer for future services, he did not contact me for a full two weeks. Then all of a sudden I get a forwarded email that my landlord sent to him saying, "Please call to discuss" and then I also got a voicemail saying the same thing except he added, "to discuss a settlement". I called back his office phone, left a message. I called his cell phone, left a message. 48 hours goes by when he said he would get back to me in 24 hours. I got fed up with him and my landlord and said via voicemail and email that there will be no settlement and I am canceling my services. Instead of Robert Pavelko that I got through a employee assistance program, I go see a professional lawyer for a $100 consultation. The consultation was free with Robert Pavelko as a benefit through my employer. His presentation during the consultation was poor, but I had trust that my employer would refer me to someone ethical and professional. Robert Pavelko upholds neither of those qualities. Robert Pavelko is not knowledgeable. He told my husband that my landlord could illegally evict because we were on a month to month lease. I relayed this information to a second professional attorney and she told me that was absolutely false! Robert Pavelko has a very rude and disrespectful demeanor as he will not let you finish when talking and will talk over you and every time he talks over you, he will raise his voice a notch to the point of yelling at you. This occurred during the consultation as well but I trusted the services provided by my employer and overlooked his sour demeanor. Stay Away!

I can not say how absolutely disgusted I am with attorney Dan Bonifazi. He was at a previous firm and had worked on two companies I am managing partner of. First off he had two scheduled meetings with me, one of them he just stood me up. The second one he canceled last minute. But here’s the kicker, he VIOLATED trust account laws. He worked 2.5 hours on one of my company’s issues and wrote himself a $5000 check out of that account when he left his previous firm. He dropped the ball on many things. Please head the warning, STAY AWAY!!!!!! I will now have to take my time and file appropriate grievances to get the company’s money back. This not only costs money but costs time and could cause a deal to be held up.

Douglas Manley completely failed to properly represent me in a bankruptcy case. When we got to court he clearly had not reviewed the materials relating to my assets. A few minutes before court he informed me he "didn't know if we can save your lots (I owned some property I assumed would be considered part of my residence). Immediately at the beginning of the court the trustee in the case was angry at me "for declaring the wrong kind of bankruptcy." Rather than take responsibility Douglas Manley lied to the trustee and blamed my former attorney, who had suggested I hire a bankruptcy lawyer as he did not have that expertise. Because Manley had not properly reviewed and evaluated my case, we had to fill out all of our paper work again to satisfy the trustee. Manley also failed to help us protect our mortgage, which was up to date with no missed payments. The bank put us on the bankruptcy list and Manley failed to help us get us off and failed (if he knew) to inform us that this was even a possibility. After threatening to file a complaint with the Colorado Bar Association against him, he did finally resend our information to the bank reiterating our intent to pay the mortgage, to no avail. It was his job to protect us from a predatory lender, that's why we hired him instead of filing ourselves. Manley also repeatedly failed to respond to my letters and e-mails asking about my case, and continues to do so. He has offered no explanations for his failure to properly advise and represent us.

Mr. Reisch was appointed to be my felony defense counsel in 2017. He knowingly refused to properly investigate the evidence and I was falsely convicted and given the maximum sentence. He had done such a poor job of defending me that he had to try and rely on jury nullification in his closing arguments. The State Parole Board stated on the record that they do not believe that I committed the crime I was convicted of (Colorado parole hearing tape 814847) and after reviewing my case they could not tell how or why I had been found guilty; had they seen Mr. Reish's abhorrent courtroom performance they wouldn't have to wonder.

If you want an attorney to take your case, coerce you into hiring a handful of experts - regardless of court's scheduling order - then, drop you at 8pm at night for NO cause - other than the case is more than she can handle, and apparently doesn't like being asked WHY experts were hired....she's your girl. If you want an attorney who drags her feet to retrieve discovery / disclosures needed for your case - she's your girl. If you want someone who does NOT know how to present a case - she's your girl. She will waste your time and money. She is (in my opinion-potentially) only able to handle simple, non-contested divorces....and even then I wouldn't hire her.

I hired Mr. Pring as my attorney and was very disappointed. Oh yes he comes across personable enough however that's where it ends. He will tell you he used to work for the DA's office so he knows how they work over there. What he fails to mention is his mindset still does. As well as the fact that his wife holds a part time seat on the Weld County municipal bench !!!! Something he could have mentioned before I chose to hire him to defend me. I got nothing that they did not offer at my first court appearance and then while serving my sentence I called him about filing a reconsideration and was told he would not advise me to do that until half my sentence was served. Well by the time I received the hearing it was so based on his advice I would have served almost all of my sentence before having gotten a chance. So I filed for my own reconsideration which I received no thanks to my attorney. When I called him to let him know I had a hearing his response was well that judge gives them to everybody so good luck with that don't get your hopes up !!!! Seriously !!!!! I still have a payment to make to him that is late on purpose. I'll pay him eventually because it's the right thing to do but, I would be very careful when hiring him to defend you. Really cant review without revealing details, but "poor" across the board should be sufficient--if "horrific" was an option, I'd had selected that. He was my court appointed attorney, IF he gets assigned you--you need to tell the courts you want him fired "conflict of interest"...trust me, HIS interests are his focus, NOT yours:/ With that said, also know, pretty much on any attorney, you will not "find any reportings of misconduct", and so, if ever do, run even faster! Attorneys are VERY protected in the process of filing a complaint with the attorney regulation counsel, yet I still encourage people to 'attempt' to speak up!

This attorney actually advised me to sign a plea agreement without researching or reviewing alleged search warrants and doing NO backround on the investigating agent. Imagine what would not have happened to me if he only called the court for certified copy of said warrants. Or looked online as to the backround of the agent. He would have discovered as I did that there are no warrents registered in my case and the agent is a fraud. HE ACTUALLY HAD ME SIGN A PLEA WITHOUT EVER SEEING THE EVIDENCE. I not him discovered this and more on my own. I tried to revoke my plea but the damage was done. He got what he could and qhwn there was no more he rushed me out the door. In the case of Jacob Russell Boyce v. Colorado et al., a prima facie analysis reveals egregious violations of constitutional amendments, federal laws, and international humanitarian laws by the defendants, including the state of Colorado, Judge Trujillo, and Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse. The defendants' actions infringe upon Mr. Boyce's First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and petition, unlawfully seize his property and children in violation of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, deny him due process and a fair trial under the Sixth Amendment, subject him to cruel and unusual punishment contrary to the Eighth Amendment, and impose government debt akin to involuntary servitude prohibited by the Thirteenth Amendment. Additionally, the defendants' discrimination based on familial status violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while their actions against Mr. Boyce's disability and medical marijuana use may contravene the Americans with Disabilities Act. Furthermore, these actions are in breach of various articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including the right to life, liberty, security of person, privacy, and an adequate standard of living. This pattern of violations underscores the urgent need for redress and justice in this case, which is supported by strong legal precedents and warrants swift resolution through the legal system.

If you are given miss Prins as your public defender i strongly suggest you consider trying to find a private lawyer to defend you. I tried to contact her for many weeks and she did not respond because she didn't think I was her client because she didn't know how my last name was pronounced. During our one conversation she tried to convince me that we probably would not win at trial and I should accept a terrible plea bargain. This being case in which it is clear that I was innocent. I myself retained a different lawyer and did not proceed trusting that my best interest was being considered.

Words can’t describe how disappointed we are with the practices of this Judge! Because of her dereliction of duty, she has ignored 76 pages of CFI reports, and she has put my daughter's life in danger. She is not a person much less a qualified judge. She disregards the lives of people and the hard work of investigators who serve the public. My daughter's life is in danger because she was to lazy to read CFI reports and my daughter's school and friends' letters. Everyone wants my daughter to come back home, but this unqualified judge just send my daughter to a absiver's hand. I will be following up with more disputes shortly.. Shame on you judge!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
