Seeing as I was only in Georgia for a limited amount of time, and had to relocate up north once my business was completed in Georgia, I needed a lawyer that was considered an expert when it came to DUI convictions. As a DUI defense attorney, Mr. Chestney was able to successfully reduce my potential SECOND (out of state) DUI charge to a reckless charge. It took time (almost three years) and patience, but I knew that it would be well worth the time spent and the money spent for his services. Mr. Chestney handled my case flawlessly. He was able to answer any question I came up with effortlessly and if he was not able to recall an answer immediately, he would then seek out help to find the appropriate answer to provide me with. DUI Charges are one of the most complicated scenarios to face in the legal system; you can find countless videos and articles on how to "beat" a DUI and there are numerous websites and marketing schemes on where to find help. Imagine yourself waiting until the last minute to complete a project for your job, a presentation for your performance review or even study for a final exam in which you have not looked over since the first day of class….this is all part of the DUI experience.
Personal Story – I had made a trip down to Alabama, from Ohio, for a friend’s wedding. On Sunday, heading back to the Atlanta Airport, I was pulled over on I-85 for speeding. The weekend was spent in the south for a friend’s wedding and according to the officer there was a need to investigate further. There is no stronger feeling of uncertainty then a police officer asking you to step out of the car…so after running through the gamut of FST the officer decided to book me for a DUI.
Now, I am business professional and travel extensively for work, both driving and flying around the intercontinental United States. Not only my job, but my career was in jeopardy. When beginning my search through Atlanta Lawyers I can remember some of them asking me “how much are you willing to spend”, “how are you going to pay”, etc. The numerous ads and marketing schemes through google soon became overwhelming.
A referral then came from a friend, which turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life. Mr. Bob Chestney and the Chestney Law Firm had been suggested. BEST CRIMINAL ATTORNEY IN THE AREA!! I came to Mrs Blanchette with an 11 count case which included Trafficking 4oz of Meth, Possession of a Firearm with altered Serial Numbers, DUI, and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a crime. I had previously hired another law firm in the area and paid them $10,000. That firm could only get me a final offer from the DA of 25 yrs to serve 10 yrs minimum. I contacted Minerva Blanchette 3 days before my plea hearing and she agreed to take the case. Minerva, Tyler, and her staff immediately began working hard to review my case. Let me start by saying that I am international PhD student (under F1 visa) from Iran (which could unreasonably amplify the negative effects of any serious conviction on my immigration and education status).
I was arrested by campus police officers at night, while trying to get something from my office. They stopped me for expired tag and after smelling marijuana from my car, they searched my car and did field sobriety test. Long story short, I was arrested and charged with 1) DUI-drugs 2) possession of marijuana (I only had 1 grams) 3) having alcohol open container 4) failure to signal. They also did a blood test after arrest. I should mention that although I was using marijuana a lot those days for sleeping and depression, my driving was not really affected as my tolerance had raised a lot. Since it was my first encounter with cops in US (and I hadn't really researched about my rights and how to interact with cops), I did an awful job (in my opinion) interacting with cops and I trusted them a too much. But they more or less lied to me and made my situation way worse than what really happened that night. Later on, I was very frustrated when I read the police report which was a surrealistic collection of lies.
After bonding out, I immediately started to search for the best DUI lawyers in Georgia and interviewed some of the most known lawyers in the area, as this could affect my career and immigration status massively. Among all the lawyers, I felt more genuine concern about my case, beside being honest about possible outcomes and what he can do and after researching a lot, I realized he is an extremely well regarded and successful lawyer, and therefore the best choice for me. Let me mention for instance that there were another very famous lawyer with a lot of TV appearances, who not only wanted to charge me way more, but also were very pessimistic about the result. Rick did way better than what he was considering impossible!
Throughout the procedure which took around 1 year, he used every chance to dismiss my case for various reasons, which showed to me how extremely knowledgable he is about the details of the law on this subject (once for prosecutors not filing the charges correctly, once for not giving us the blood test and cam video on time, once for the cop not showing up). Our requests did not work mostly because the judge was nice to the prosecutors, but I witnessed that Rick did push for a dismissal whenever it was possible.
Finally after we received the blood test and the video, I realized that the active marijuana in my blood was quite high (0.9 when the limit for DUI in CO is 0.5) and the field tests were not as good as I previously thought. It was not awful, but definitely not good.
So we started to cut a deal. One thing I realized was that it is very important for the lawyers to have good relations with prosecutors, judge and staff (for cutting deals) and Rick had this great as he was very friendly and respectful (and sometimes funny!) and so very much respected in the court. Finally we reached a deal that I was very happy with. They dropped the DUI/possession/open container charges (all drug/alc related charges) and I pled guilty to 1) failure to signal 2) reckless driving. Sentenced to 200 (for 1) and 600$ (for 2) fines (judge dropped 200$). Also a 1 year probation including random alc/drug tests, dui school, community service and Alc/drug evaluation. Rick requested the probation to be terminated after completing my conditions which was accepted. So since I had done all that stuff, after paying the fine on the same day, my probation was terminated and I put all of this big trouble behind!

I had a case years ago in which my prior lawyers, in my opinion, failed to present the case which would have proven I was not guilty for which I was charged. As a result, I took a plea bargain, but the prior lawyer failed to mention the “First Offender” law . After researching the law myself, I hired another attorney whom then passed the case to Mr Healan. I was advised to be patient and he would handle everything. Well, after about 18 months, Mr Healan not only got the case on the docket, the district attorney’s office even spoke on my behalf in a positive manner and the “Retro First Offender” order was granted! I am a unique client. I like to get “into the weeds” on the legal side of things. Mike was excellent at working with me on two separate occasions.
In 2017, Mike negotiated on my behalf to keep my house and avoid high child support payments and settle for 50/50 custody in my divorce case in Cobb County. This enabled me to stay in my child’s life on a constant basis and remain a stable parent. After a relocation from the child’s other coparent, I had to step into being a full-time parent.

Generally with most attorneys the initial consultation is free as was the case with David. However David saw me again without charge even though my case was too small to require an attorney and gave me excellent advise on managing my own case so that I could recuperate bills and damages. The particular insurance company was dragging its feet about offering a settlement and David gave me advise on navigating their bureaucracy. It worked. They offered a settlement and surprise, surprise it is under fair value as David predicted they would. David even provided the form for me to file on my own behalf in the case. I hired Mr. Horlick last year after getting a second DUI within 10 years (not proud of this, obviously) and I couldn't be happier with the work he did. Mark was recommended to me by a good friend. I did not know what to do. I got set up by some cops and hit with a false DUI charge because I decided not to blow, as I felt like they were harrassing me. I had no idea they could still charge me with a DUI! Ok to start I have literally been using Julie Kert's services for years now, and since I found her she has NEVER let me down! I first hired Julie for a dui that I received in Cobb County almost 10 years ago. I was praying to beat the charges but because I had heard of how strict cobb County can be I knew I needed a really good attorney. I never had hired a top tier attorney at the time but because of the circumstances I knew it would be the best decision for me to do so. I received a ton of letters via mail from all sorts of attorneys and for some reason Julie's stood out to me. I went and met with her for the initial free consultation. I felt very confident with her and I could tell that she was extremely knowledgeable to the point that I decided to hire her that day. I apparently had made the correct decision because Julie was able to get the charges totally dismissed which was amazing, and at that point I knew that she was worth every single penny that I had paid her. Fast forward down the line I had a a situation come up with an ex that I had been living with who had acquired a small misdemeanor marijuana charge at the home that we shared, however even though I was not there when the incident happened the police decided to charge me as well along with the ex who had already admitted to the marijuana. I found out later that I had a warrant from those charges that I didn't know of and was arrested. I called Julie and hired her and when we went to court she was able to have all charges dropped due to the fact that the charges had already been previously charged to someone else. What I have learned in my experience is when hiring attorneys you are paying for the experience and knowledge which is what will win cases. A lesser experienced attorney might not know all of the intricacies of the law to be honest. Given Julie's history and prior work experience as a prosecutor I have no doubt that she knows both sides of the field which is what I think has been very successful in helping me with my cases. I received another DUI years later and decided to go with a friend because I thought that it was a simple case. At the time I technically had never been convicted with a DUI and it was a refusal to blow so I knew there wasn't any hard evidence. Needless to say I went to court and lost that case which should have been a very simple case. The reason being is the attorney was inexperienced. Years later I received another DUI and I decided to hire another attorney again because I didn't think I could afford Julie, however I lost the case and wound up spending more money after the case than what I would have spent if I would have just hired her. And now, what brings me to this review, I hate to admit it but for the sake of this review I will expose that that I have caught the third and final DUI I will ever catch in my lifetime and I made sure to hire Julie because I did not need this DUI to stick because three would be very bad, as if the 2 prior wasnt bad enough. This time however I really felt that I was innocent. Let me tell you that Julie Kert was able to get the DUI thrown out by the judge due to circumstances that only she in my opinion would have been able to execute due to her exemplary knowledge and experience and legal intelligence in the courtroom. It is an honor to watch her work and witness her masterful execution in the courtroom. She has literally saved my life this time around. The earlier situations I was very young and making stupid decisions and this time I really did get caught up in a bad place at the wrong time and she saved my life for me and my family! This man is worth every single penny. WORTH IT. I have never seen an attorney more prepared and ready to attack in court. Custody court was mentally the toughest thing I had ever gone through along with living 300 miles away. Mike helped me through every step. You will not find a more experienced attorney who will get you the best possible outcome in your case than Bubba Head. Highly recommend Wendi. I was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane. Blood sample was twice the legal limit and the video evidence was not in my favor.
