Had Evidentiary Hearing granted but was never benched warrant as she said I'd be, she's very good at what she does but it never happened how she said it would so I was never benched warrant and served more time than I should have. Now I'm out after 22 1/2 years, and would like for her to finish what she started , so that I can be there physically at the Evidentiary Hearing with her or a new attorney for the Hearing. Just want my families money used the way should've been used

I hired Nathan to handle my case when I was wrongly accused of a first degree felony. This was the best decision I ever made. I was terrified because I had not even had a speeding ticket in years, had never been charged with a crime, and was facing 99 years in prison for a crime I did not commit, but Nathan was very reassuring. When I went for the first court hearing and checked in with the court clerk, I said that Nathan was representing me. All of a sudden everyone - the clerk, the DA, and the judge - perked up a little and seemed noticeably nicer to me. To me, it looked like they all knew and respected him. When the clerk called my case, the judge told me to just stay in my seat while he, Nathan, and the DA talked privately. The next thing I know, the judge called me up to the bench and told me he did not find probable cause for my arrest, my bond was terminated, and I was free to go! The DA dismissed the charge the same day. It was the weirdest experience, but am I glad I trusted Nathan! Nathan definitely knows the law backwards and forwards and works really hard for his clients. I am really grateful that I found him because he believed me and diligently defended me. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a criminal defense lawyer - you need an attorney like Nathan in your corner.

Attorney Nathan Hennigan came highly recommended to my family, and we are so glad we contacted him. We did a phone consultation & face to face with Attorney Nathan, and we felt very comfortable talking to him, he has excellent communication skills, and we worked out a payment schedule and we hired him. We discussed our case with Attorney Nathan, and he discussed what he thought best/worst scenario could happen in court. Attorney Hennigan helped us get bail when we thought none would be offered to us, and then in court we were offered a Motion to dismiss all charges (which is nowhere close to what we thought would/could happen). We thank God for working thru Attorney Hennigan to get us this great results. We are very pleased with Nathan, as our Attorney, his knowledge, professionalism, promptness, communication, and people skills can't be beat. We do not live in Houston, TX, but Attorney Nathan kept in touch with us as needed even on a weekend. We will forever be grateful for his services. No one wants to go to court, but we highly recommend you give him a call, if you ever need a lawyer.

I was referred to Charles Thompson to represent me in court after my arrest in West University, Houston, TX. My court date came much more quickly than I had expected, so I called him the day before I was expected in court, and he began representing me. He was not pushy, but quickly and fully informed me of the levity of my situation. His retainer was more reasonable than other quotes I received. He helped me build a positive defense from day 1. He was also familiar with the court of West University and several prosecuting attorneys, so he confidently explained the process that he would go through in trying to resolve my case. I checked in with him once per week while attending college out of state. He inquired with West U and its attorneys about my case, view dashboard camera footage, and communicated all findings to me. A few months later, my case was dismissed and I never had to return to Houston or personally appear in court.

I was introduced to this attorney during the middle of an ongoing criminal case that was heading in the worst imaginable direction possible. Once I hired this attorney, he took the time to explain the legal aspect of my case and broke down everything to where I was able to understand. Mr. Ezeoke kept me fully updated throughout my entire case. At the time Mr. Ezeoke took my case, I was facing 5 years of federal prison time. Needless to say, I am here writing this review from the comfort of my own home. Mr. Ezeoke had my case dismissed and all charges dropped. He made the impossible look so easy. He was unafraid of the unjust court system and fought for my case as if it were something personal to him. His law firm has now become great family to all my family and friends.

Once I brought my case to atty. Alphonsus Ezeoke, I knew right then I had chosen the right person to help with my criminal case. This attorney took the time to explain to me the details of my case, which most attorneys have failed to do. He allowed me to work as apart of my case so I would understand all legal aspects dealing with my case. This attorney saved my life, I went from a possible 5 year sentence to all charges dropped. Mr. Ezeoke did not accept any other answer from the Courthouse, because he believed in me. I recommend this attorney to anyone that is in need of a criminal lawyer or if you need a lawyer that will litigate and truly fight for you. Rebecca

Tonya took care of my minor son's felony possession case. This was of course a very trying time for us. She was very reassuring and knowledgeable. My son had a record of mischief and the DA was looking to make an example of him. Tonya got him differed. The judge at the time seemed appalled that the DA had been arm wrestled down to such a weak position. My son’s probation is over now and Tonya agreed to help with the paper work to get his record expunged. What a relief to know my son has the opportunity to put his youth behind him and start with a clean slate. Thank you Tonya!!!!!

We lost our Dad last December and we had never been through the probate process before. That's why we're incredibly grateful for Larry Chamberlin of Chamberlin Law and Mediation. From our first meeting, Larry put us at ease. He walked us through the probate process for our dad's estate, explaining everything in terms we could understand. His expertise was evident: - Thorough preparation for every step - Impressive performance at the Harris County probate hearing - Skilled negotiations that protected our interests - Efficient management of all legal procedures What struck us most was Larry's commitment to our case. He wasn't just going through the motions – he genuinely cared about helping our family during this difficult time. If you're facing probate in Harris County, we can't recommend Larry Chamberlin highly enough. His knowledge, professionalism, and compassion made all the difference for us.

In addition to his outstanding academic and practical resume, Matt is extremely personable and caring. I was picked up at my home on an Aggravated Assault charge relating to a traffic incident that occured a month and half prior. Being unfamiliar with the Criminal Justice system, especially that of Harris County District Courts, I went to my first court date after posting bond with the intent of finding representation. Sitting there for hours observing the different defense attorneys one distinguished lawyer caught my attention for his rapport with the prosecuting attorneys and his "lawyerly" demeanor. I spoke with him the first chance that I got and set up an appointment to discuss my case that afternoon. Before the meeting I did some internet research on Robert Loper's experience and was quite impressed. When I met him at his office in the Heights, I was introduced to his son, attorney Bradley Loper, and the three of us sat down and discussed my case. During the discussion you could feel the mechinzations in thier minds at work as they patiently listened to me. The quick sharp banter between the two of them as I elaborated my details along with earnest feeling that they were there to help me had me sold. I hired them that day. For the remainder of my court dates, the case was reset 5 or 6 times, one(or both) of them would meet me BEFORE the docket was called. They patiently explained to me where we were at, what the next steps were and encouraged me to ask any questions - to come to their office if need be. Brad recommended hiring an investigator, which I did, and strategically decided to present the findings to the court. As the reality of being convicted of a FELONY really set in, I mentioned to Brad to try to settle for a deferred adjudicated misdemeanor with probation, but he told me he believed me and that he thought the case should get dismissed. Do you know how that kind of confidence coming from your attorney really confirms that you are in good hands? Well, sure enough, on my final court date today the Prosecuting Attorney was talking about a misdemeanor with probation, and Brad fought for me.... CASE DISMISSED. The dread is lifted from my shoulders and I can get on with my life.

We were recommended to this lawyer by the Terry Bryant law firm due to his expertise in handling State Farm cases. After our accident, despite having $21k in medical bills, the driver having only a $30k liability limit, and lawyers taking 1/3 of the settlement, we still walked out with $7k in our pocket after negotiations. The lawyer had just 3 months before statute of limitations ran out and was able to get a settlement in time to avoid a lawsuit. We had our money promptly after negotiations ended. Every inquiry was promptly, politely, and intelligently answered. We are extremely happy with this lawyer and would definitely recommend him, especially if you are trying to settle with State Farm.

Absolutely the most talented lawyer in the country. Jim is easily the most intelligent person I've ever met. He was able to take an extremely complicated case and immediately grasp every detail and nuance. He has a photographic memory for facts and for the law. He has a tireless work ethic -- often putting in "all-nighters" as new facts became available. His courtroom experience, presence and prowess are beyond reproach -- he is equally adept at winning over juries as he is at winning procedural points with judges. Additionally, he is able to go the extra mile for his clients by walking them through every step of the legal process before the events unfold. Jim makes sure his clients and the families are fully prepared for every facet. If you need a lawyer, this is the first man you should contact and the only call you'll need to make. Mr. Lavine represented me for over 7 years with an incredibly difficult and challenging case. Technically, he had a tremendous understanding of the law and explained it to me in ways that I could understand it. He was creative in how he looked at my case, carefully researching all the angles, always giving me good advice and counsel. He never 'left a stone unturned'. Thorough and exhaustive would characterize his research skills. Integrity wasn't just something he spoke about - he lived it. His character and integrity are very important to him. Lastly, he treated me like family. His personal touch was so important to me and my family. I knew early on in my case that Mr. Lavine was a top notch lawyer who knew the law inside and out - what I later learned (and what was the most important thing to me) was what a fine man he was. I trusted him with my life and he never let me down. My case was a very high profile, challenging case - one that required countless hours of hard work and 'hand holding'. I can't say enough of Mr. Lavine - a tremendous lawyer with the personal touch.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
