I do not recommend. I spent over $9,000 for absolutely nothing. I separated with my children's mother after 13 years together, 5 of them in which we had a son and a 1 year old daughter at the time of separation. By Joni and the opposing attorney's"recommendation" they postponed our final custody hearing to go to co-parenting counseling which actually did help. But then months turned into a year. A year of continance after continuance. Always excuses. A year of paying retaining fees and filing fees. All for her to just suggest that I SETTLE for seeing my kids 2 days a week and every other weekend. I have all emails saved for reference. She told me to settle for that and to settle on $1100 a month for 2 children that I NEVER in their lives spent a single day away from! As soon as she said that I called Attorney Tom O'Donnell and hired him and fired Joni. He did in 2 months what she couldn't do in 15 months. He charged me a $2000 retainer and I eneded up paying him an extra $300 IN TOTAL!!! I ended up with 50-50 joint custody.i pay $840 a month and I see my babies as much as possible Their mother and I now have zero problems and are both married with new partners. We share the kids 50-50. Almost an exact even split in time and I still pay $840 a month but that's America I guess. It was the worst experience of my life, being treated as a 2nd class parent, being told I should just settle for seeing my kids 2 days a week. I'm glad I didn't take her advice and give up on my children.$9000 down the drain and I never got an itemized list of all these fees. I just paid her like a dummy because I was desperate to get my kids back.

This "Lawyer" if you can even call him that. Got appointed to represent my fiance. First he did not tell her the judge had changed her court date which led to her getting a failure to appear. 2nd He refuses to go and see her in jail. She has no idea what's going on with her case. 3rd he has came to see other girls in the jail. He told to tell her he was working on it. Like wtf kind of attorney does that? 4th He refuses to return any phone calls from loved ones speaking on her behave. 5th Even when he's known to be in his office, if you call he has his secretary lie and say he's out of the office. All in all, you definitely need to be represented. Just not by him. Fire this attorney immediately if you are appointed him. Hopefully this will help people know who this guy is. And what he's all about.

Jeff made minced meat out of the prosecuting attorney on a totally bogus charge. He proved that I was completely innocent. The prosecutor got mad after the jury found me not guilty but Jeff still didn't back down and I walked out of court with a big smile on my face. I totally recommend Jeff to anyone facing a false criminal charge!!! He saved my life.

Was told my case was not as important as other cases that were going on for the attorney. Granted, my case may not have been as big as a money maker for him, but it certainly had a major negative influence on my life thanks to his complete lack of attentiveness. In the final ruling against me, the judge made comment to the lack of defense that could have been presented to have got me cleared of the charges. At the end of the day, I was left with a lifelong blemish on my record for something I absolutely did not do and this attorney walked away with around $10,000 and a smugness that only added insult to injury. My only hope is that someday in the future, he finds himself in a similar situation where he is wrongfully accused and a person that could have offered him help turns his back like he did on me.

Mr. Organ represents everything a quality lawyer should, in a day when it is very difficult to find decent council this law firm stands heads above the rest. Jim Organ is a trustworthy lawyer who will work hard to help you and will not ever give up on you, Jim is honest, to the point and works very hard for results. The Organ law firm represented me and Mr. Organ got me an amazing result considering what I was facing, not many people would've worked so hard and would have been so dedicated to a client but Mr. Organ was and gave my case his all. I continue to seek consul with Mr. Organ and he is quinine, straight forward and honest always. Mr. Organ gave me his time and went past the time he had reserved for me to fully answer my questions and concerns and I can not thank him enough. If you need a lawyer the Organ law firm is second to none, I stand fully behind this review and I can not speak more highly of Mr. Jim Organ and his staff.

First took the case giving me every bit of confidence that we had a fitting chance. When we got into the real battle and exchange of information to get prepared for court I had to lead the way making sure we met before the court dates, going over again what we were fighting for as if he was shocked to see me and did not give me confidence that he knew what was going on. After our court date left me with not recieving infornmation, calling the office for infornmation, waiting a month before a return phone call and after that call still not a response without me digging one out myself. With no results or explanations on what or why things went the way that they did and a very large bill in the end I would make sure you make the right choice.

6 weeks ago (Friday) I called to find out information about a trust that had been executed a number of years ago by this office. They asked that I send a copy of the trust to them, which I immediately did, and that they would get back to me on Monday. After several calls to them and, yes we're looking at it, I still haven't heard from them. I had a challenging experience with Easterday when it came to handling an estate closing case. This process has been ongoing for eight long years, and unfortunately, it has been a frustrating journey with minimal assistance from Easterday once he stopped receiving payment beyond the initial retainer for closing said estate. Getting essential documents from Easterday became an ordeal, and it took months to make any progress. Even though our agreement was based on his fee being covered by the estate, the secretary, supportive staff, and even Easterday himself resorted to harassing my family due to payment issues, which was entirely uncalled for. To make matters worse, Easterday ceased actively communicating with the local assigned judge, leading to the estate's reopening due to unresolved stock matters. Overall, this has been a disappointing experience, and I wouldn't recommend Easterday's services

Horrible, Horrible representation. This attorney was extremely clear that I was in an extremely vulnerable divorce situation that was high conflict with soon-to-be-ex. She was not honest about the potential cost. Mostly, she did not return phone calls in a timely manner, she did not give me a clear understanding of my case and Indiana law, she was not my advocate, she was very shaming towards me, she seemed to actually side with opposing counsel. It was bizarre. I cannot fathom anyone needing to get a divorce, who is in a vulnerable situation because they were the "stay-at-home" parent having this attorney. She does not seem to be a women's advocate whatsoever. If you need someone who will have your back and fight for your rights...do not hire this attorney.

Martin is personable and professional until you pay a retainer and then loses all interest in the case. I was required to negotiate on my own behalf while Martin sat to the side offering more support to the other party than he did for me. The entire office lacked the ability to relay messages or provide any coherent response to questions. Information or documents provided were filed but were never reviewed or referenced during any meetings. I hired Martin for a Family Law matter and if this is all the effort he puts into his cases I would highly recommend that you represent yourself since you will already be doing alk the work.. It definitely would have turned out much better for myself as the legal result would have been the same and I would have saved the cost of a significant retainer.

Told my husband that his court was at 2pm today but was at 9:30am for custody of his children (which is very important!) so he missed it. Also told my husband that he would do his full case for a totally of $1,200 and we agreed. He represented him the first time and then wanted another $400 to represent him for his next court date (which wasn’t the deal but we paid him anyway) when he shows up to the next court date he sat us down and asked “so what are we doing today?” Like he didn’t know ?!?! After that, he called and wanted ANOTHER $1,200 !! He didn’t represent my husband but for MAYBE an hour and a half total and didn’t do a good job at it at all ! And he doesn’t communicate at all about your case unless you’re about to go into the court room or unless he calls wanting more money. No way would I ever recommend this lawyer.

I hired Stephen Drendall for a Child Custody and Child Support Case. He talked a good game in the beginning but as time went on he became less responsive and did not file paperwork in a timely fashion as asked. Weeks would go by with no updates. He would send out correspondence concerning my case and did not copy me or update me on the case so I had no idea what was going on. I attempted more than once to try and clarify things and to get him to work my case in a competent manner. After doing so he just became less responsive and more careless. I hired Christine for a highly contentious custody and divorce case. I couldn’t be happier with the results. However, if you are thinking of hiring her, please know beforehand that it is pertinent to listen to and follow whatever advice she gives you. Don’t be like me, save yourself time and money by listening to her from the moment you hire her. She knows what she is doing. Her and Traci are the best! She can come off as stern but it is for your own good and what is best for your case. She has continued to answer any questions that I have had after the agreement was filed and the divorce was finalized. I honestly don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t hired her, but I can assure you it wouldn’t be any place good. As a DV survivor, I want you to know, she will advocate for you. She will defend you. What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
