Jon stanek did a great job in my case, keep in mind they have a ton of clients not just you so what may seem short or "rude" is really them trying to jumble a million tasks all at once witch is not easy and I'd say for my experience he did a great job with my case from explaining what he knows to getting my case resolved as quickly as possible as I had requested. He was more than patient in answering all my questions and made sure I understood the process very well I have no complaints whatsoever

I hired attorney Joel Larimore to help me battle very serious charges. My case just finished up after almost a year and he was able to get me a great deal where the most serious charge (felony) was dropped and the other 2 are dismissed after awhile. He got me a deal before this one that was even better (all charges dropped to country ordinance, ex. littering), but the judge rejected the deal. Not the attorneys fault. He fought for me to get me the best deal possible and without him my career and future would be over. Will forever be grateful to him and do not listen to any of the bad reviews about him. The only complaint I had was he is not very good at communication, often leaving your message unanswered for weeks at a time. I have come to learn that silence from him means he is working very hard in the background and waiting for solid information before telling me. Nothing to worry about. Will 100% hire him again if I find myself needing an attorney.

I read the one review and was worried because she was so super nice when we talked to her, but WOW was she tough in court! We knew she would tell it like it is to us and not waste our money but she totally fought like crazy in court but was so helpful the whole way. Answered all our questions and we never felt rushed, and we knew exactly what to expect once we were in trial. So happy we found her!

We hired Imhoff & Associates that contracts with Mr Kerner in SE Wisconsin. The retainer we had to pay is 3 times higher than other attorney's we interviewed. We had very little contact as he barely returned emails or phone calls. Under his care the charges against me mounted up as he didn't speak with DA, as our new attorney has. Where other attorney contracts stipulate that $ will be refunded for hours not used, there is a vague clause in his contracts that says they will not refund any $ we paid. If you need action, you should find another attorney.

If you mess up, you are going to be punished- accept that fact. Kerner didn't comfort me or give me that warm, fuzzy feeling- & I understand that lawyers are busy & don't return every call. But when I really needed him to perform, he did,,, and then some. He told me what I needed to do, and he did what he needed to do. Without his expertise, I would have been locked up for a long time. He was able to reach a compromise where both sides were happy. When someone is speaking to a judge on your behalf, you better have a good lawyer. Kerner was very professional & knowledgeable, and his years of experience show when it counts.

Hiring Mr. D'Angelo was a mistake and a waste of my time and money. I could never get a hold of him and he did not keep me informed at all. Two friends of mine had received the same exact charges as mine and had went to court without hiring a lawyer and received a better deal than me. Although this might not be Mr. D'Angelo's fault, he went ahead and met with the district attorney again charging me a very large sum for it claiming that his paralegal had said I requested it. There was too much miscommunication between him and his paralegal since he does not care to deal with his clients directly. He kept adding to the bill and finding ridiculous things to charge me for without ever getting the ok from me. He takes advantage of his clients and tries to squeeze as much money out of them as possible. Dealing with him has been one long headache, and I would never recommend him to anyone.

I would suggest if you get Bliss as a public defender that you request a different attorney. He is known for settling cases and doesn't seem to like to go to trial. He can be arrogant and if he disagrees with what you want to do with your case, he lets you know it so the entire courtroom can hear that he disagrees. He can be kind of intimidating. He also seemed to be annoyed like he didn't want to talk to me when I called him or when he returned my calls. However, he is very knowledgeable and I do think he can be a good lawyer if you get along well with him.

She was straight-forward and honest, and knew how to attack this case. After reviewing the evidence, we filed a motion to suppress evidence, due to an illegal stop. At the motion hearing, Bridget did a great job on the cross-examination. The officer was very shaky with his testimony, and the video clearly showed no violation. All charges were dismissed. MrJames McLaughlin helped me in a desperate time of need. Through my recent divorce I got pretty depressed and I was consuming alcohol on an everyday basis. I hate to admit this online to everyone but I know it’s for a good cause... I rolled my vehicle multiple times with my 2 year old in car while I was driving intoxicated. MrMcLaughlin directed me not only that I needed help but where to go to find it. Because of him I was able pay my fines, to graduate alcohol classes and get on medication that I needed. He showed me how turn everything back around. he got what would have been my first felony dropped down to a misdemeanor. I haven’t been intoxicated since that night. My medication has been a huge success and my case is closed and I’ll never go back! Thank you MR McLaughlin you really helped me when I was in a very dark place! I wanted to add that since I wrote this review I have gotten a hold of emails she sent saying that I refused to give her my taxes. Which is ironic since i had a letter from her dated before these emails saying that she had my taxes. If she says anything different I can send proof. So if you want an attorney that is going to lie about you to other people in the court system then hire her. There is no free consultation. I hired her for a child custody case. My ex lied about her income she did nothing, my ex lied about where she lived at so that I had to drive a mile past where my daughter lived for the exchange. she did nothing. I am self employed and I was not allowed tax deductions she did nothing. I getting a temporary placement of 50/50 and I had to pay her over 30% of my income. I gave her the proof she said she didn't believe it was legal I had consulted two different attorneys and multiple online articles. The online article should have been plenty good because when I asked her question about a law she told me to google it. I told her about what I was told and found on the internet she promptly withdrew from the case. If you want someone to represent you based on her beliefs then hire her if you want to be represented on actual laws hire someone else. Or just google it and save a lot of money. She charged me over $2000 for one court appearance and a very little amount of paperwork. She is equal to flushing money down the toilet stay away. She is a one star lawyer because the website makes you give her a star. I personally wouldn't give her negative stars.

I trusted this office and I hand fed him everything and his associate Jordan Weekes guaranteed me to my face that my business was taken care of! I paid for my legal fees on May 1st and contacted him again with threatening phone calls because on July 3rd my truck was repo’d in Arizona after I had arrived here 5 hours later my truck gone!!!! and when asked what had been done with my bankruptcy absolutely not a dam thing! Then he has to scramble around and get a different attorney to do his job and I was suppose to get those papers via the internet on Wednesday well it’s Saturday and haven’t seen a dam thing! Did not like this attorney's communication style or how i felt in his presence, whether in his office or at hearings. I felt that i was rudely and disrespectfully treated and unfairly judged as a person. Throughout the case i felt afraid by his intimidating speech and mannerisms. My encounters with him left me traumatized. Bad fit, possibly, but I would not recommend this attorney to anyone in a vulnerable situation or you may end up second guessing yourself and your sanity, not a pretty thing to to have to contend with when you're already under stress.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
