Dewey Cheatem and Howe… Worst law firm in the country not just the state. Convinced me to accept a deal (for significantly less than they had originally advised I settle for and well below their “do not accept less than” prep talk) in mediation assuring me I would not be billed further and opposing attorney would handle all closing paperwork. Hen billed me again saying he didn’t do it right, then when I objected and reminded them of what was said, they doubled the bill and sent it again. ANYONE BUT THIS LAW FIRM, I was warned about them but unfortunately was too far in to back out and hire someone else. Any time I confronted them about anything they just threaten to withdraw and keep your money.

Jared Hays absolutely did an amazing job in court for us. He was completely prepared, and argued it perfectly. Him and his team were easy to communicate with, and made it easy. When dealing with custody issues, it’s so important to have an excellent lawyer on your side. I can’t recommend Jared enough.

I hired Jared Hays. I was told all the stuff Jared was going to do for me. $9000,00 dollars later and asking for more money. I realized were it was going so I fired Jared and found a person to help with court papers for far far far less money. If I had stayed with him I would have paid him $30,000 to $40.000 for my divorce. On top of all this I heard thru the grape vine Jared was going thru his own divorce at the time he was representing me, if Jared had informed me he was going thru is own divorce I would not of hired him. If you have to go the route of an attorney I would NOT recommend these guys.

We hired Atty. Miranda to help with my green card application in the U.S. While the process was undoubtedly complex, Atty Miranda and her team were consistently supportive, providing us with clear direction and what to expect at every stage. Thanks to her and her team's support diligent efforts, our application was approved just a few months after submission. We are ecstatic and we couldn’t have done it without Miranda's expert advice and thorough support. A special thanks to her diligent paralegal, Keegan for handling follow-ups and keeping us on track. We’re deeply grateful for their exceptional service. Cheers!

Miranda, Jonathan, and Noel are all amazing legal representatives and work as a team not only together, but with you as a client. We were at their mercy from across the country fighting for our rights and what is best for our family. Miranda took on our case within a 2 day notice, fought for us and with us until present day! Our only regret is that we can’t use her in TN, after her successful win for us. We had two other lawyers thru the yrs before this and felt unheard, often neglected, and over charged. Court is expensive no matter what… but with Baner and Baner we never regretted the fees due to the fight they fought, attention they paid, the outstanding service that went beyond the court room to even sharing tears thru the process. They are known as angels in our household who watched over us and still do to this day. We could be honest, even very blunt…and every word was heard. We were able to fight the best fight we could but maintain as much dignity throughout the process as one could have in a very difficult situation. We never had to depend on anything but the truth and the skill of the team at Baner and Baner. Miranda and Johnathan both appeared in court for us because if you hire one of them, you get both! Because they have each others backs if one cannot be present last minute, the other is there. Their paralegal Noel is another true asset to their team and was always available to help in any way and just as much a part of the team as the two of them! We will recommend them to any and everyone, and be grateful to them for eternity. Our case is not in open court at the moment; however we will always remain connected to them, and know that they will forever be a part of our story. Miranda told us that the reason they do this job is to fight for the ones that deserve it, and the little ones that it helps! And we can’t wait until our little one is grown and knows a little more of the story to understand… and we can all meet again and show Miranda what she fought for and how amazing it all turned out due to the care, attention, hours of work and dedication she put into our case! You cannot go wrong by trusting them with your life! Because it is your lives they fight for! And they truly are the best!

I retained Mr. Shane to represent me to amend the parenting plan with my daughter's mother. I could go into all the piddly details but instead I will tell you that Mr. Shane is very good at what he does! He replies promptly to email, he returns phone calls. Yes, these are things that I would expect from an attorney but he definitely follows through. He explains why some things should be done a certain way. If you have an idea about something but he doesn't think it will help or improve your case, he doesn't just say no. Instead, he takes the time to explain why and ultimately, it's the clients' decision. We were able to get the parenting plan updated to satisfy what is in the best interest of my daughter. I would also comment that Jazmyn, Mr. Shane's paralegal, is excellent too. She took all of my calls and was able to put my mind at ease, which was often.

Walking into Rodi’s office for the first time, I was nervous. I was staring down what was certain to be a long, nasty, complex divorce and I needed to make sure I had the best representation possible. But, I also had to know I could trust and relate to whoever might provide that. Rodi commanded the room with her presence, nevertheless, she immediately put me at ease. Within no time at all I could tell she understood where I was coming from, what my children and I were going through, and how my ex figured into these things. She got up to speed on my particularly complicated/unique situation extremely quickly, and I knew at once I had an ally. And a determined, smart, experienced, relentless, caring one at that. I knew she had my back from day one. And she never once faltered. Through the countless, pointless and malicious deviations, distractions, and motions my ex threw up to complicate things; the endless diatribe of slander and lies, the messy and ugly, Rodi was my rock. She – and her equally amazing and dedicated paralegal – gave me confidence, kept me informed, and put everything into perspective. She has a vast history with and inside knowledge of the courts and judges and she possesses a fierce, but steady, demeanor. She doesn’t let emotion get in the way as she works tirelessly to create a fair, appropriate, and welcome outcome. When my ex failed to even try to make mediation a success, we faced at court time—something both she and I had hoped to avoid. Mediation is always Rodi’s preferred outcome; that said, the court is truly where she shines. My own court experience turned into a three-day circus of sorts, thanks to my ex’s antics, vitriol, and curious representation. Rodi was at the top of her game fielding all the balls he kept trying to throw at us; she had hold of every thread and met each of his efforts with her legal expertise to ensure they fell short. Above all else, though, Rodi held my children at the heart of the everything and truly served as their advocate. There is no doubt that my kids were her highest, sacred priority. In the end, the outcome was best it could possibly be, given my situation. There is also no doubt that if it weren’t for Rodi O’Loane I don’t think I would have made it through all of this. She made me stronger and kept my family safe and protected. I would recommend her to anybody.

Although Nathan got me the initial paperwork the amount of money spent was not worth it. He failed to update the judge as required. Failed to submit paperwork I requested him too. Failed to explain billing. Failed to follow the judges order. Always wanted more and more money and accomplished nothing. Then when he wanted an additional 5 to ten thousand dollars and I just paid my rearage and refurbished my escrow he dumped me claiming it was not paid in time. Not true the payment through MI billing recieved the payment the morning of the 30th. Unless you have a fat wallet and can dump tens of thousands on these guys do not use them they are all about money with no results. 20,000 dollars later I get my butt chewed by the judge because Nathan did not do his job then dumped me with nothing to show but a twenty thousand dollar debt. Now I have to redo all of the paperwork myself thanks for nothing Nathan. Over billed with no results.

I wanted to share that the experience I had with the view ridge law- more specifiacally with the attorny Elaina T. was far from well. I had to end my session with her early and request my money back. I paid her to help me and instead she spent time telling me why I couldnt get what I wanted and defending the other party. I also found out she did not read all the paperwork I sent in which she claimed was irrelevant to the case which was entirely unture. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and care that was given to me. Our meeting was not recorded so I was not able to prove that way she was speaking to me to her superiors. The only positive that came from this was that the office did refund me my money. I lost out on a very timely situation due to their lack of attention.

Mr weaver did my appeal for a cps case that had nothing to do with me. My name was never in no slogans what's so ever! I told my weaver I want to be at my appeal two times. I only talk to Mr weaver twice for like 3 min. Every time I called his female assistant would say his busy or not there. Long story short Mr weaver and his assistant would not give me the login for court told me that I'm not allowed to attend my appeal. Not only that how can Mr weaver defend me and turn in my appeal if he talk to me twice for only a second!? I finally got the report he turned in. It was like the social worker said here turn this in. Mr weaver assistance hung up on me when I called demanding a call in number to attend my appeal. I plan on filling a lawsuit here soon . I would stay far away from Mr weaver as possible. Mrs Kraine has been my lawyer for 5 years now, through 4 cases. When I first met her she was very quick and to the point. I was not sure she had heard me but I trusted my friend who had told me that she was the best and that I wouldn't want to go up against her. Mrs Kraine has never failed to prove just how true that is. That fighting, direct, to the point spirit that you see when you meet her is 100 times stronger when she is in court fighting what she calls " the big bad wolf for you". My last case I was served a 600 page document with multiple accounts of the other party claiming contempt of court. The lawyers both asked for more time to go through the paperwork. Then the judge asked for an extension on the case to go through the 1000 pages that were at her desk by the time it got to her. It took a month and a half for it to go to court. I thought I was done for. The other party had one of top top law firms fighting for them. But Mrs Kraine and her team never gave up on me. They went through every single page multiple times and tuned many of their own words against them. She knows what to fight and what not to fight. In the end the judge found no contempt of court. As Mrs Kraine always does, she will call after a case and celebrate all the little victories in the case. It feels great to see her get so excited about winning a case. It is important to document everything, get her the information she needs quickly and stick with the same lawyer through all your cases. I have won every case with Mrs Kraine fighting for me. I am so glad I chose her from the very beginning not knowing I was going to have to go through so much.

Ms. Krane took the time to explain each and every documents and what it was for and why I had to respond to each document. She helped me prepare a response and get them filed with the court. While Ms. Krane does have a very direct approach, I found it provided me with what I could expect in my case and how the case would proceed. I met Christopher Swaby when he was assigned to my case by the Office of Assigned Council when I was facing charges of Felony Vehicular Assault. We were up against a particularly aggressive prosecutor with a reputation as a “take-no-prisoners” hard liner and a long list of convictions in similar cases. Mr. Swaby’s persistence in researching and interpreting the evidence and presenting the facts of my case to the court was impressive to me, especially coming from a public defense attorney. Our first offer from the court was to plea down to a Gross Misdemeanor which Mr. Swaby encouraged me to reject. His relentless pursuit of the facts and his handling of my case, particularly his ability to work with this prosecutor, resulted in all charges being dropped and my case being dismissed without prejudice. I hope to never be involved with the criminal justice system again, If I do, I know what attorney I will seek out.

When I think of my time with Cindy Wysocki, Esq., tears of deep gratitude literally come to my eyes as I recall her strength and gentleness, her humor and sharp critical thinking, her willingness to get into the ultimate fighting cage we call the judicial system and her reluctance to throw a punch, and her commitment to fairness and open-hearted compassion. To the lawyer or firm across the virtual table, Cindy must seem formidable and relentless. To me as her client-friend, she was comforting, encouraging, and grounding. I never had to yield my voice or stuff down my questions. AND, Cindy held my concerns and fears, my heightened emotions and (sometimes) clear intuitive insights respectfully while guiding them in positive, productive ways. And best of all, Cindy knew me well enough at the end of a grueling process to be able to then assist and guide me in my needs to safeguard my estate and financial assets to be sure to leave them secure for the ones I love the most. Above all, I am forever grateful to Cindy for accompanying me as a caring fellow human being during one of the most devastating times of my personal life journey. I worked with Caitlin for 16 months on my divorce. I got an email stating that I needed to add money to my trust and soon after, while working to come up with the funds, received an email notifying me that she was withdrawing from my case. I had come up with the money and processed payment immediately. She refused to take my calls and there was no changing her mind via email. I have mediation in a month, no representation, and I’ve given her everything I have. I’m still in complete shock and have no idea what options I have now. I should’ve read more reviews because I now know I’m not the only client she’s suddenly dropped like this. I’m happy to correspond further regarding the specifics of my situation at [redacted]. Please don’t make the same massive, life-altering mistake that I did in hiring her.

By far the worst legal experience imaginable. If you are ever assigned them as a public defender do everything in your power to not have Mr. Lotskar or Deweirdt involved at any point and honestly I would ask for another law firm all together. These are the public defenders that are way to friendly with the prosecution and seem to advise clients in a way that benefits prosecution. They are extremely dense in terms of understanding what actual life is like for human beings outside of the court room after a decision has been made. They just want to process you and get you off of their books. By far the worst law firm I have ever worked with.

Incompetant, frustratingly slow, and poor communication. I have watched with disbelief how Lacey has first bungled and then dragged their feet on a simple estate probate case my husband entrusted them with. My husband Stuart BW, is too mild mannered to hire another lawyer to sue Lacey Group for having filed the paperwork under the wrong name and all the other bungles that have dragged this case on much longer than it should have. Don’t entrust your business to this group until they get their act together. We feel screwed by their lack of responsiveness.

I needed to update my will and health care power of attorney due to changes in my living situation. I found that Mr. Hofstad and his staff were very helpful from my first consultation through completion. They were prompt and efficiently completed the modifications within my budget and timeline. I would recommend them for estate planning question or legal advice regarding wills or trusts.

Zack was such a huge help to me in my time of need. When I first contacted him I was completely clueless on how to handle my situation and once I explained to him the details he immediately took on my case, kept me updated always, never tried to beat around the bush with me and was very straightforward but still kept me hopeful of a positive resolution for my case. I deeply appreciate his help and will always come to him first if I ever need a lawyer again. Thank you a lot Zack!

Chellie Anderson has been an absolute cornerstone in my experience with legal support, working alongside attorney Joshua Bruner with a level of expertise and reliability that's both impressive and deeply reassuring. She feels like a second lawyer on the legal team. Since taking over for Donna, Chellie has been incredibly prompt, utterly professional, and someone who embodies the highest standards of what top-of-the-line legal assistance should be. If you'll click over to read my review of Donna, you'll see that replacing her was an incredibly high bar to live up to. Chellie's success in matching Donna's performance as a paralegal to Joshua Bruner makes me wonder if it isn't the strength of the paralegal team, and not the attorneys, at Envision Family Law that makes the firm so successful. That isn't to knock attorney Joshua Bruner, who has been nothing short of magnificent. Flawless. Compelling. Powerful. An expert crafter of legal writing, interviewer, and declaration writer. And deeply empathic to boot. He's been beyond-the-beyond good. It's just that, in settling on Envision, we interviewed countless other firms, including all the top firms in Washington, and even paid an $8000 retainer at one, only to have it completely refunded because of the sheer complexity of our case. We experienced countless paralegal's assistance and communication through that process. EACH of the paralegals we worked with at Envision - Donna & Chellie - are an order of magnitude better than ANY of the dozen paralegals we worked with at other firms. Chellie's approach isn't just about being thorough - and she is remarkably thorough - it's about bringing a personal understanding to her work that genuinely makes a difference. Josh trusts Chellie implicitly, and it's easy to see why. Her capacity to handle complex legal tasks with a calm and efficient demeanor has not only won my complete trust but also my respect. She operates with a clarity and precision that ensures everything is managed smoothly, which is something I've come to rely on. What stands out to me about Chellie is not just her professionalism but also her genuine dedication to her clients. She responds quickly, making sure that I'm always in the loop and fully informed, while respecting our budget. This level of communication and care is something I've found to be exceptional. Chellie doesn't just meet the high standards set by the legal profession; she surpasses them, making the often daunting world of legal proceedings far more navigable and less stressful. Working with Chellie, I've felt a strong sense of confidence in our ongoing legal matters. Her ability to work seamlessly with Joshua Bruner enhances their legal services tremendously, providing a level of support that I truly value. It's not just about the legal tasks at hand. It's about knowing there's someone as capable as Chellie looking out for your best interests, while you're out taking care of your own business and family matters. For anyone in need of exceptional legal support, my experience says you'll be in very good hands with Chellie. She very obviously enhances the effectiveness of an already powerhouse attorney in Joshua Bruner. Now having more than 6 months of experience with Envision, Chellie, Donna, and Bruner, I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has to go against them in court. They are by FAR the most prepared - and talented - legal team in the courtroom, every single time. It's not even close. If you need a legal team that is going to win, even when they "shouldn't," I currently put my money - literally - on Envision, because of industry-leading performance by paralegal's like Chellie. That performance appears to just be par for the course for all parties at Envision. Deeply impressive. Easiest 5-star review ever.

She stayed by my side through unprecedented conditions, with unconditional care and concern, as one of the few who did in my life. Cindy is a legal Bodhisattva!!

What a Domestic Violence Lawyer Can Do for You

A domestic violence lawyer provides legal assistance to individuals involved in cases of domestic abuse, whether you are a victim seeking protection or someone accused of domestic violence defending against the charges. These lawyers help with obtaining restraining orders (protective orders), representing clients in criminal court, and handling related family law issues such as child custody, divorce, and visitation rights.

If you are dealing with domestic violence, a lawyer can help protect your rights and navigate the legal system to ensure your safety or defend you if you’re falsely accused.

When Should I Hire a Domestic Violence Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a domestic violence lawyer if you are:

  • A Victim of Domestic Violence:
    • Filing for a protective order (restraining order): If you need immediate protection from an abuser, a lawyer can help you file for a protective order, which legally requires the abuser to stay away from you and refrain from contacting you.
    • Divorce or separation due to abuse: If domestic violence is a factor in your relationship, a lawyer can help you pursue a divorce or legal separation and ensure that you are protected throughout the process.
    • Child custody and visitation issues: A lawyer can help you secure custody of your children and limit or restrict the abuser’s visitation rights to protect the safety of your children.
    • Filing criminal charges: If you are pursuing criminal charges against the abuser, a domestic violence lawyer can work with law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure the case is handled properly.
    • Assistance with safety planning: A lawyer can advise on the legal steps to create a safety plan, including securing temporary housing, and taking steps to protect you and your family.
  • Accused of Domestic Violence:
    • Defending against criminal charges: If you’ve been accused of domestic violence, a lawyer can defend your case, challenge the evidence, and represent you in court. If possible, the lawyer can help get charges reduced or dismissed.
    • Challenging a restraining order: If someone has obtained a protective order against you, a lawyer can help you contest the order to prevent it from negatively impacting your life, including your employment and child custody rights.
    • Dealing with family law issues: Domestic violence allegations can affect child custody, divorce, and property division. A lawyer can represent your interests in family court and ensure that your parental rights are protected.
    • Avoiding criminal record implications: A lawyer can work to minimize the impact of the allegations on your record, which can affect your employment, housing, and future legal matters.

Hiring a lawyer at the earliest stages can help ensure your rights are protected and the case is handled effectively, whether you are seeking protection or defending against accusations.

What Does a Domestic Violence Lawyer Do?

A domestic violence lawyer provides various legal services depending on the specifics of your case. These responsibilities often include:

  • For Victims:
    • Filing for protective orders: A lawyer can help victims of domestic violence obtain temporary or permanent restraining orders, which provide legal protection by restricting the abuser’s access to you and your children.
    • Representing you in divorce and child custody matters: Domestic violence often leads to divorce or separation, and a lawyer can represent you in family court to protect your assets, secure custody of your children, and arrange spousal and child support.
    • Criminal representation: Lawyers work with law enforcement and prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against the abuser, ensuring that you are informed and supported throughout the legal process.
    • Safety planning and legal advice: Lawyers provide advice on how to stay safe legally and can assist in securing temporary housing, providing guidance on how to leave abusive situations safely.
  • For the Accused:
    • Defending against charges: A lawyer will build a defense by investigating the case, gathering evidence, and challenging the claims made against you. If necessary, the lawyer can negotiate with prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties.
    • Challenging protective orders: If a restraining order has been placed against you, a lawyer can contest the order and present evidence to defend against it, aiming to minimize its impact on your life and reputation.
    • Handling related family law issues: Lawyers help defend against domestic violence allegations in divorce, child custody, and visitation disputes, working to protect your parental rights and reputation.
    • Preventing long-term consequences: A lawyer will work to protect you from the long-term consequences of a domestic violence conviction, such as a criminal record that could affect employment, housing, and more.

How Are Domestic Violence Lawyers Paid?

Domestic violence lawyers generally charge for their services in different ways depending on the case's complexity and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many domestic violence lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Hourly rates are common for both criminal defense and family law matters.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as filing a restraining order or defending against a straightforward domestic violence charge, some lawyers offer a flat fee that covers all legal work related to that service.
  • Retainer: In complex cases, such as those involving criminal charges, divorce, and custody disputes, a lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some domestic violence lawyers provide pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services to victims of domestic abuse who cannot afford legal representation.

It’s important to discuss fees during your consultation to ensure you understand how much your case will cost and what payment options may be available.

How Much Does a Domestic Violence Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a domestic violence lawyer depends on the complexity of your case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal work required. General cost estimates include:

  • Restraining orders: The legal fees for filing a protective or restraining order typically range from $500 to $2,500, depending on whether the case requires a hearing.
  • Criminal defense: If you’re defending against domestic violence charges, legal fees may range from $2,500 to $15,000 or more, depending on whether the case goes to trial and the severity of the charges.
  • Family law issues: Legal fees for divorce, child custody, and other family law issues related to domestic violence can range from $3,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • Hourly rates: Domestic violence lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for their services, with more experienced lawyers charging higher rates.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand the total cost of legal services.

Top Questions to Ask a Domestic Violence Lawyer

Before hiring a domestic violence lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the right experience and approach for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with domestic violence cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled domestic violence cases similar to yours, whether you’re a victim or the accused.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, flat fees, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely outcome of my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Domestic violence cases vary in length, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what might cause delays.
  5. Will I need to appear in court?
Ask if your participation in court is required, and how the lawyer plans to represent you during hearings or trials.
  6. What steps should I take to protect myself or my rights?
Whether you’re a victim seeking protection or defending against allegations, ask the lawyer how they will help you navigate the situation.

How to Check the Credibility of a Domestic Violence Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable domestic violence lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for domestic violence experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in domestic violence cases and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients say about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have been involved in domestic violence cases.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Look for certifications or memberships in family law or domestic violence advocacy groups, such as the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a domestic violence lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • For Victims:
    • Details of the abuse: Prepare a detailed account of the abuse, including dates, locations, and descriptions of any injuries or threats.
    • Police reports and medical records: Bring copies of any police reports, medical records, or photographs that document the abuse.
    • Legal filings: If you have already filed for a restraining order or been involved in any legal proceedings, bring copies of those documents.
    • Questions about your safety and legal options: Be ready to ask about the best steps to protect yourself and your family, as well as what legal actions you should pursue.
  • For the Accused:
    • Details of the allegations: Prepare a detailed account of the incident or allegations against you, including any evidence or witnesses that support your defense.
    • Legal documents: Bring any legal documents you have received, such as a restraining order, criminal charges, or child custody filings.
    • Questions about your defense: Prepare questions about the legal process, possible penalties, and how the lawyer plans to defend your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation and provide the best possible legal advice.
