I was blown away from the moment I met Cindy and her Brother (partner) Heber. They were both very helpful and clearly passionate about their work. I saw it as a huge positive and unique bonus to have a brother and sister team working on my behalf . I continue to work directly with Cindy on my situation and she has been heaven sent. She is highly knowledgeable and up to date with any recent changes to laws or documents. (I had a previous veteran attorney who didnt "keep up with the times"). She is extremely enthusiastic and definitely cares about establishing a strong reputation for having integrity. I have been completely pleased with that diligence and attention to detail. I have recommended Moran and Moran to friends and they have had a similar experience and positive results. Thank you again Moran and Moran

As a victim of fraudulent Marriage, I was desperately looking for a trustworthy family lawyer to get me out of this mess. After consulting couple of other lawyers, Luisa was recommended to me by another well known immigration attorney Helen Tarokic. Luisa was very thorough with all the required documents and information needed for a successful representation. She made sure there were no loose ends on our side and also had a back up plan ready just in case of an undesirable result. Even during the Covid crisis and huge back log of cases, I was lucky enough to get a court date last week. Luisa briefed me thoroughly 30 mins before hearing and we were able to get a favorable decision from the Judge. Thank you Luisa!!

Ahhhh! Something Very Rare In These Times... An Attorney Who's Honesty, Along With The True Compassion For Her Clients And Their Struggles. I Must Also Say… I Have Yet To See An Attorney That’s Given As Much Of Her Valuble Time To Those Financially Wounded And In Need Of Emancipation. Once Again, This Is An Attorney Anybody Would Be Proud To Have In their Corner… I Surely Know That’s How I Felt With Her On My Side While Defending Me And My Family. Our Society Needs Many More Lawyers With Totally “Above-Board” Ethics… We Would Be Living In A Much Better Place If We Had More Like Her. I Will Surely Be Recommending Chanel Brown Esq. To My Friends And Associates.

Would definitely recommend Mr. Louie. He helped our family with our Will, and proved himself knowledgable and pleasant to work with. He stood apart from some of the other attorneys i spoke with, in that he didn't try to make the work more complicated than it had to be, which made me trust him. His firm's rates were also very reasonable.

Brian has been my attorney for over 10 years. He has been a terrific asset for several legal events, some very involved and arduous. In every instance, he has shown a marvelous grasp of current legal principles, and has the subtle ability to gain an edge for his client where none appears to exist. If you need someone who will fight for you, this is the guy. He is and will remain my attorney as long as I reside in California. Mick

I hired the George B Pacheco Law Firm to represent me in an Unlawful Detainer Case in which I was the Petitioner. That case quickly turned into a very complicated Probate Case in which I became the Respondent. After a two year HARD FOUGHT battle in Probate Court. Gia stuck to the facts of the case as she persisted against the most difficult opposition by the opposing side. Her keen grasp of the facts and her knowledge of the law prevailed in an overwhelming victory for truth and honesty. I prayed for guidance to the right person to handle this challenge and I was led to Gia Pacheco. I consider Gia Pacheco a gifted Attorney and I would hire her again if I should ever need Legal Services again. As a person I would be happy to call her friend.

Robyn Ginney took over my case from her partner when he became ill. She was able to walk into a very messy divorce as if she and I had started the divorce from the beginning. She always presented my case in a strong clear manner and had great arguments to rebut the other attorney. She also had extreme patience during the three years it took to get the divorce finalized. I would strongly recommend her because of her advice and perseverance she was able to make the outcome of the divorce very favorable to me

Morris prepared a trust for my husband and I as well as both our wills and other legal documents. He was absolutely fantastic. I was really a pain as a client. He sent the documents promptly for signature after they were prepared and I was horrible about returning them. He was incredibly patient and gently reminded me until I reviewed and executed them. I can't say enough good things about his work. I have recommended him to my colleagues and my own clients.

I met Toby Adams while she was still in Law school, and working as legal assistant. She was excellent back then, and I'm sure she's even better now. Toby assisted me with the court paperwork needed for changing my name legally. She filled out and filed all needed documents with the court. I was informed that I might need to appear before a judge but her work was so spotless that the court approved my petition without my needing to appear. I'm am excited to hear that she has Graduated with her law degree and plan to hire her for any legal issues that may arise.

Le Pelletier...oh how I love their style of things. I believe they are Psychologists with a suitcase and a powersuit. Like their powersuit, everything they do is custom-tailored and form fitting to the client's emotional spec along with his/her long term sense of safety. Le Pelletier is a safe place...or safehouse. They are your advocates. Just think for a moment. Society is like a playground, you are being legally picked on. Le Pelletier is that older kid that comes and defends you and backs you up. Joseph Le Runs the Santa Ana office and is a very helpful person and took initiative to send help my way when I didn't ask. I like that kind gesture a great deal. I had an issue where I called his office for help. He sent his partner, Erin Pelletier, in since she's more local. On day of, he surprised me by showing up. He drove over 400miles just to support the case. Joseph Le is like a superhero or a good older brother I've always wish I had. Saying he'll go that extra mile for you isn't really fitting-- I say he'll go an extra 500miles.

My wife and I had a legal firm write our trust, when she passed away several years later I had to address several issues that were questionable.. The main issue was the billing before we even addressed changes to the trust. I then changed attorneys and law firms. Michelle picked up the ball and what needed to corrected was handled discretely, professionally and the updated trust is now in place. Anyone needing a trust I would highly recommend Michelle

Heather has provided legal counsel for me for two separate problems. The first was an issue concerning the housing situation of my very uncooperative and sometimes hostile mother. Family issues can be very tricky to solve, even when the law is pretty clear. Family members tend to play by different rules when dealing with one another and there is a compassion that you give to relatives that doesn't come into play when dealing with strangers. Nobody understands this more than Heather. Her care and compassion for all parties involved give her unrivaled effectiveness in determining a solution with which everyone can be happy. Instead of just going through the legal motions of removing my mother from her current, undesirable housing - which was the legal help I sought - Heather actually went the extra two miles and found several housing alternatives that would fit my mother's financial requirements. She investigated records and found some government assistance programs for which my mother would be eligible. She thoroughly researched all possible avenues, including mediating discussions with other family members. Her warm-hearted demeanor and obvious compassion make her instantly likable and does not put anyone on the defensive, which I have found can be the most serious obstacle to progress. These factors were enough to overcome my mother's hostility and help her realize the right choice to make. I would hire Heather again in a heartbeat if another such situation arises. Heather is currently representing me in a personal injury claim from a motorcycle accident. I am continually amazed and impressed by her organization and knowledge. Despite being young and newly licensed, she's an excellent researcher and knows when to ask for help. It's obvious to me that she cares most of all about my satisfaction and providing me what I need, rather than serving her own interests. Yet she doesn't just answer my questions, she asks me all the things of which I haven't thought and sees to it that I keep on task when dealing with the seemingly insurmountable piles of bills and insurance paperwork. I can be difficult person with whom to work, because I insist of knowing and understanding everything and doing it my way. Heather doesn't push or prod, but she tells me matter-of-factly what the consequences of each and every one of my proposed actions are. She'll tell me when I'm making a bad choice and after all is said will work tirelessly to whatever ends I choose. I feel very comfortable knowing Heather is representing me and I do not worry. She's not just a great lawyer, she's also a really great, caring person.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
