There's a myth as one searches for a great family lawyer that in order to get results, you have to hire a bad *** - who will treat your former spouse (and probably you) like dirt, but it will be worth it because you will get results. Joe is proof that you can work with a fantastic, caring human being and still get the tough negotiation skills needed to get the results you desire.
As a former lawyer myself (JD, LLM), I can affirm that his knowledge of family law is thorough & detailed.
If I had to do it all over again (hopefully never), I would select Joe every time. He made a troubled time bearable and saw that I got the things that were most important to me during my divorce & custody battle.

Joe was recommended to me by a Defense Attorney whom I trust and respect as "the one I would go to if it was my Divorce." Joe 'literally' does Family Law , as both his Son and Daughter followed him into his profession and are the second and third Attorneys in the Milner Law Firm. As Bob Bowman, a Mediator, put it: "I couldn't think of a better recommendation than to have your own kids want to work for you!" Joe was attentive, concerned, and supportative, and more importantly, was perceptive as to the attack plan of the opposing Counsel and how to counteract it. He also was able to uncover deceptions and expose false statements made by my Ex during deposition. We ended up settling our case,and although we did not go to trial, I was able to walk away with the things that mattered most to me and he helped me engineer a plan to cut the chains that had been laid out to bind me financially to her for the next 6 years. If you are the "good guy" in a Divorce, you can't do better than Joe.

Mr Miguel Castillo helped me with my criminal case. He got my case dismissed within three months of my arrest. He was there to answer all of my questions and walked me through the process. A year later I contacted him again to get the case expunged. Within four months it was. I highly recommend Mr Castillo.

I interviewed numerous attorneys before I selected Jami. Most of the other attorneys informed me that "men dont win in Travis County - you're going to lose this case." Jami was honest and told me that she would fight for me, but that there were no guarantees. We went to Court and Won!!!! My divorce was not a pleasant, amicable split. I was faced with the possibility of having my three young children relocated halfway across the state. As a single father fighting to keep primary custody of my two children I knew the odds were stacked against me. My experience with my divorce was not that bad. It was not a typical divorce. It was very amicable. But I am the exception to the rule. I am certain if you are going through a divorce process it will not be as friendly as mine.
Laura Grumbine (my attorney) and Kate Koscheski (Paralegal) made this life event as smooth as possible.
Kate regularly updated me with the status of my case and made requests of any documents needed. She also was there to remind me if I forgot (which happens too often) or ommited anything.

My wife and I had to deal very unexpectedly with what amounted to completely unfounded and untrue allegations of possible child abuse. The doctor's exam only revealed healed mosquito bites. The real abuse was from the invasion of privacy that subsequently occurred as the CPS rep conducted a series of questioning that greatly upset our kids. It was amazing to us to see just how easy it is to totally disrupt a family by just picking up the phone. The pain and anguish our family was put through needed a firm and legal response. Michelle represented me through an unfortunate and unusual situation involving family law that spanned more than 8 months. It involved a petition for a protection order and a difficult divorce. I have personally utilized the services of Joseph Oswald. I also had the pleasure of being a receptionist at an office where he leased space. Judge Oswald is a highly ethical and professional attorney focusing on Collaborative Family Law but if litigation is needed, he will handle it and handle it well. He did so in my case. He also focuses on business law and serves as a municipal judge in Cedar Park, TX. Judge Oswald is a democrat. One more reason to like him!! His wife Karen acts as his legal assistant. Gracie Shepherd was our attorney in my custody battle for my son. It was a long brutal fight that involved multiple hearings in front of multiple judges. She did an excellent job and communicated with us regularly. During the whole process we were able to observe many other lawyers/clients and it was obvious that Gracie was very professional and prepared. She knew how to navigate the online zoom hearing well and had all of our files and evidence organized and easy for the judge to see. We feel very blessed that Gracie represented us. We ended up winning full custody and awarded child support. Her legal advice was practical and well considered. She was composed during trial and not intimidated by the other lawyers. Getting a divorce is hardly ever easy but I worked with Gracie & she made it as less excruciating as was possible. I knew I wanted to go with her when she billed me for 30 mins during my first consultation even though I was quoted a fee for an hour. I hired Mr. Merritt to represent me in my divorce. As scary as a situation as divorce can be, Mr. Merritt was very knowledgeable and professional from the start. He patiently walked me through the process (multiple times) which can be very confusing to someone who isn't familiar with legal jargon. He fought tooth and nail for what I was entitled to and what was in the best interest of the child involved. After getting not possession at all, thinking of the worse outcome possible for my daughter and me I went from no possession at all to the unexpected; I got half the time and child support. This attorney is a wonderful human being, very professional, efficient, smart and fair. For my own experience I can tell you that this woman is so great at what she does that she can achieve the impossible. Thanks to Lisa Adams the life of my daughter and my own can be better than what I thought it was going to be and my child can have her mother in her life and have a much better life than what at times I feared she was going to have (perhaps not being able to see her mother or see her every other weekend). I recommend the Peek & Toland firm 100% - they gave me 110%. We won one of the most difficult cases with the odds completely stacked against us. I would say at least 90% of other Austin law firms would have lost my case. I say this because other firms I brought my case to were very negative on the case. While Peek & Toland were not exactly positive on my case, they were willing to exhaust every possible avenue under the law to win the case, and they did!

I had a rather simple area that I wanted help with... setting aside a conviction in a DWI case. I did not know the exact name for that process and I found Dax online. I contacted him and was able to get an appointment rather quickly, and he did not charge for the first meeting. He quoted me a flat fee and I knew what to expect from the time I left his office going forward.
I really liked the fact that Dax met with me and really seemed interested in helping me and my situation. I knew that he would be handling my case and not passing me off to another associate attorney.
When I needed to reach Dax, he was available to me via text message and cell phone ... I don't think he gives those out until you hire him, though.
I would recommend you call Dax for anything. Even if you think he cannot help you, give him a chance. If Dax is not able to assist you, he will tell you up front and if possible refer you to someone else.
I have no complaints and if I ever need an attorney again, Dax will be the first person I call!

I have known Mark since 2004 and since then I have hired him for everything from contract creation to incorporation to liability waivers and litigation, and he has always done an outstanding job. I've also referred many clients to him and every time he did top-notch work and made me look like a hero to my clients for referring him. I had Mrs. Hindera as a court appointed lawyer for a federal case back in 2006. Although I was incarcerated the entire time, she was in full communication with my mother. Everyone with a federal case knows they have a 99.9% conviction rate so really you are just hoping the judge will have mercy on you and give you the best sentence possible according to your rating with any priors. It's a crazy process but I believe she did the best she could do and I only got a 24 month sentence which wasn't anything after already being in there for 9 months. She actually personally knew the prosecutor so I think that helped a little and was able to show the judge who I really was and not the person in the paperwork in front of her. I am very thankful for her treating my family with all respect and making them feel like it would all be ok in the end. She is a good attorney and figured I'd give her a review since I'm seeing no-one else has.
