My wife and I are parents to a special needs child. We have a long history of partnering with the administrators in the school district and the special education teachers at the school. Despite this an inexperienced teacher, with little knowledge of the history, filed a DCFS report on us over a story our child told. Although the school district and the experienced teachers supported my wife and I, as required by law, we would have to go through a full DCFS investigation. A friend with knowledge of the DCFS pointed us in the direction of Marie Taraska, whom we hired after an initial consultation. Maire walked us through the entire DCFS process and was there for us from start to finish. Marie’s knowledge of the DCFS law and her experience working in the system not only gave confidence that our case would be resolved positively but also reaffirmed our belief in ourselves as parents. With Marie’s help our case was unfounded in short order. If you find yourself in our situation and facing a DCFS investigation, I highly recommend Marie Taraska. Do not have a friend who happens to be lawyer represent you and do not hire someone who doesn’t specialize in DCFS law. The DCFS is its own entity with its own rules and only a lawyer who knows this system like Marie can work fast and effectively to clear your name and put the matter behind you.

Last April I worked for a school district in the south suburbs and was assigned as a monitor for a special needs child. To no fault of her own, the child was combative and had a flight response and would stop at nothing to get out of her seat belts while the bus was moving. While trying to keep her in her safety restraints, I was falsely accused of slapping the child. Naturally, I was terrified and felt helpless. I hired Marie to represent me through the criminal investigation. She was outstanding in her handling of the situation. Her instincts as a former prosecutor helped her to understand the minds of the people who were trying to form a case against me. She used her former experience to guide me every step of the way. After 4 long months I have been 100% exhonerated from any wrong doing. I can not say enough how much Marie's expertise got me through this nightmare.

In the course of a recent custody dispute, false accusations of emotional abuse to my son were made against me to DFCS. Marie Taraska is an outstanding and professional attorney who not only defended me at trial, but investigated the matter to find evidence to prove my innocence. Marie did an outstanding job questioning and cross examining the witnesses to show the information which was used to indicate me was false. Marie proved in court that the individual who called the hotline was dishonest. Marie won my case. Not only was my indication expunged but so was my character! Jay Dahlin assisted me in a high-conflict divorce and served as my counsel through custody and marital settlement. He was calm, thoughtful and worked to guide the process in a reasonable manner within the guidelines of Illinois law. He was skilled at negotiation and using mediation effectively, in spite of the often extreme positions adopted by opposing counsel. We ultimately negotiated an outcome that was closer to my position than the other side's. I attribute Jay's patient, careful work on the case as a key factor to the outcome. While I would never wish divorce upon anyone, I would not hesitate to recommend Jay and his firm to someone going through a divorce.
The associate that helped on the case, Leslie Arenson, was also terrific. Having a strong team led by Jay made the process infinitely more tolerable.

During the bank fraud forclosures in 2010. I used Mary Katherine In 2010 and since then have had to use her on and off for a coulpe things after my divorce. She was wonderful to work with and always did what she said. She understands this is a difficult time even after the final divorce and walks me through what I need to do. Some time back I was pulled into a case involving a former employer, a federal grand jury, and allegations of bribing a state senator. Prosecutors wanted a sworn statement from me, and I was completely lost and overwhelmed. Fortunately, a good friend recommended Daniel Kessler and to this day I’m thankful they did. Mr. Kessler took on the case, explaining everything clearly without talking down to me. He negotiated with the prosecutors, handled their requests for files, and made certain that I wasn’t going to get dragged down for my old boss’ actions. I don’t know what I would have done without him. I do know it wouldn’t have been good. It’s a rare lawyer who can hold their own against the Feds but also doesn’t have an ego the size of Texas. Mr. Kessler is professional when he needs to be yet still casual enough to feel like I’m talking to a real person, one who actually cares about my situation even after the check clears.

I came to know Jennifer after I was looking for a lawyer to represent me in my highly contested divorce case dealing with a difficult ex-wife. Upon hiring Jennifer she immediately started working on my case. Jennifer spent the majority of time on my case and always protected my right to a 50/50 parenting time when my ex and her lawyers were throwing all kinds of false allegations against me in court to take my toddler away from me.

He was amazing and turned things around within months. IF IT WERE NOT FOR LARRY, I WOULD NOT HAVE RAISED MY OWN CHILDREN, as my ex-husband, an attorney, was determined to devastate me legally and financially. He was filing motions against me almost weekly. He almost succeeded in his campaign, but then I hired Larry and he was able to turn things around. You will not find a divorce lawyer, or any lawyer, in Cook County or Lake County with better courtroom skills. When I met Larry Starkopf I thought he was nice...too nice to handle my ex-husbands aggressive attorney. To my great benefit and surprise he not only rose to the challenge he surpassed it! Larry Starkopf is a true trial attorney who was knowledgeable, assertive and spot on in his objections of every trick opposing counsel pulled. I dealt with three other attorneys prior to retaining Larry and while he was not the least expensive he was worth every cent! How often can someone say that about their attorney? By the time I landed in Larry's office I was very distrustful of attorneys and skeptical of his approach to my matter. If there is any advice I could pass on to a future client of his it would be to TRUST your attorney. It took me awhile to relax and let Larry drive the matter but once I let go of my fears I was able to relax, assured of his best efforts representing my interest. I was never passed off to an associate attorney and was constantly abreast of every ounce of activity. He had a stellar assistant, Deborah, whose familiarity with my matter was matched by Larry's. As a team they were very involved and well versed in my matter, despite maintaining a full calendar and case load. Larry informed me that he could make no promises on the outcome of my matter but promised that in the end (no matter the outcome) I would KNOW that he fought for me. He kept his promise and because of his efforts I not only received sole custody I was also awarded more support than what was initially suggested. I watched Larry raise more than a reasonable doubt that my ex-spouse was hiding assets. This was a big bonus considering we were not informed of opposing counsel's plans to reduce support. Without prior knowledge and only holding evidence for a few minutes, Larry used the documents submitted against my ex. After a reference from a local PD social worker, I was sent to Figiel Law after a horrible experience in court with my initial retained counsel in my contested divorce.
While granular details will not be provided in this review, the circumstances that triggered an email for help came from the place of pure desperation during one of my many sleepless nights.
My email must have validated my anxiety and fear from the events that unfolded in the weeks prior with the previous divorce attorney as Lucas called me first thing next morning, 6:30am to try and put me at ease and determine if Figiel Law could provide support. He spent nearly forty minutes on the phone with me and upon initial discussion felt Figiel Law could help me out of my situation (one that felt helpless from where I sat).
They scheduled me into the office immediately after I retained them as counsel and I quickly sent all my files over for review. At my first visit, not long after the prescreening callback, the firm made me felt like this is exactly where I should be!
Nicholas read all my files in great detail so that upon our meeting, he already had some strategies, asked several questions and provided a roadmap of activities for us to spend our time and focus in order to counter back against opposing counsel with their lies presented in an emergency motion to the court.
