I do not write reviews very often, however I feel this review is necessary and important for it may give anyone needing assistance from a family law firm some insight on Stern, Perkoski, and Mendez. I found myself in a high-conflicted situation in regards to my parenting time with my 10 year old daughter. I was in desperate need for counsel, and was worried about finding someone who made me feel like everything was going to be ok. I had someone recommend speaking to Attorney Shay Formanek. I was immediately surprised at how fast Shay returned my initial phone call and was blown away from her willingness to have a prolonged detailed consultation with me on the phone for free. She listened to me intently, asked all the proper questions so she was fully able to understand my concerns, my thoughts, expectations, and details of the entire situation, everything! Shay explained to me what her approach will be to resolve the situation for me, and was very transparent of all the details that anyone can possibly want to know. Upon retaining Attorney Shay Formanek, I quickly realized I found the best attorney possible. I have had several other attorneys prior being that I have been separated from my daughters mom for 8 years now. I have always felt like just another client with past attorneys, they always felt un personable, were very difficult to get ahold of, and more importantly I never felt like they cared or truly had my back. Shay immediately started working to resolve my case. Her communication is impeccable. If I reach out to Shay with a question or concern, it feels almost immediate at times with how fast she gets back to me, and it’s almost always on the phone, because she wants to discuss my concerns or questions in detail. Every single thing that is done on her end or that she receives regarding the case she immediately contacts me to discuss it and makes sure I understand what it means and where we are at in the case. I have had prior representation from several other family attorneys as I stated earlier, and this review does not do justice on how amazing my experience has been with Attorney Shay Formanek. Her knowledge as an attorney understanding family law is beyond impressive, and the way she speaks and handles herself in court is amazing. I don’t have that initial feeling of panic and dismay that I had prior to initially contacting Shay, that I know most people have while looking for counsel. She has my back and fights for me, and she’s made that very evident. I am so grateful for Shay and I know anyone else would be as well.

I reached out to Cari for legal assistance after my ex-husband served me with demands for an out-of-state visitation agreement for our teenage daughter. At the time, I had full physical/legal custody and my daughter was against the proposed travel schedule.
Cari was a fierce advocate for both of us. She expertly managed a tense situation with compassion and strength. She stayed level-headed and expertly navigated negotiations no matter what the other side threw at us.

After my dad passed away in April 2024, my mom and I filed for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) through the VA. Despite working with a VA liaison and following up for 10 months, we received no real updates—just that the claim was still pending. Then, my mom received a notice from the VA, which she mistakenly believed was a denial of the DIC claim. Unfortunately, even the local VA liaison misinterpreted it, causing a lot of confusion. Given that my dad’s passing was clearly linked to his disability, we realized we needed legal representation and turned to James Comerford.
From our first conversation, James took the time to listen, understand our situation, and guide us through the process. Initially, we thought we needed to file a rebuttal, but after investigating, he discovered the VA had actually misinformed us—the claim was still being processed. He assured us he would follow up, and shortly after, he called with the great news: the claim had been approved. Not only did he get us answers, but he also knew exactly when my mom would receive her benefits, including back pay.
When I asked James what we owed him, he refused payment—he was simply happy my mom received what she deserved. Even after I insisted, he suggested we make a donation to a charity instead, which we did. His generosity, professionalism, and genuine care for his clients truly set him apart.

Some time back I was pulled into a case involving a former employer, a federal grand jury, and allegations of bribing a state senator. Prosecutors wanted a sworn statement from me, and I was completely lost and overwhelmed. Fortunately, a good friend recommended Daniel Kessler and to this day I’m thankful they did. Mr. Kessler took on the case, explaining everything clearly without talking down to me. He negotiated with the prosecutors, handled their requests for files, and made certain that I wasn’t going to get dragged down for my old boss’ actions. I don’t know what I would have done without him. I do know it wouldn’t have been good. It’s a rare lawyer who can hold their own against the Feds but also doesn’t have an ego the size of Texas. Mr. Kessler is professional when he needs to be yet still casual enough to feel like I’m talking to a real person, one who actually cares about my situation even after the check clears.

First time using Zeidman & Carpenter for a real estate closing and it won't be the last! Lee and Corrie were great communicators during this super quick 7 day closing requested by the buyer. Lee had to navigate finding a surveyor who could get the property surveyed quickly which he did before I was able to utilize my contacts in this area at a very reasonable price. Attorney Peggy Raddatz is a first-class family law attorney. I recommend her services unreservedly. To substantiate my recommendation, I will share three points from my experience in working with Ms. Raddatz.
First, as noted by numerous other reviewers, Ms. Raddatz is very responsive. Even whenshe is unable to turn her attention immediately to my questions, she responds that she has noted my question and that she will turn to it at her earliest opportunity.
Second, Ms. Raddatz is direct, honest, and frank with her clients. While it can be difficult to learn and accept the harsh realities of family courts, it is better to understand the facts of the case and what can be done to work towards the best outcome for one's children. Ms. Raddatz always explains what is realistic, what is sensible, and what is out of the question. This knowledge and expertise are indispensable.
Third, Ms. Raddatz endeavors to achieve an 'Agreed Order' for her clients. This means working with the opposing counsel to negotiate an order to which both parties agree, and the Judge simply signs off on that order. This avenue is much more beneficial than showing up to court without having done the due diligence of working towards a solution. Judges generally look favorably upon parties that do the hard work of reaching an agreement prior to court.
In addition, Ms. Raddatz's paralegal, Ginger, has been immensely helpful in assisting with various administrative matters for my case.
If and when additional issues arise that require a family law attorney, I rest assured knowing that I can work with Ms. Raddatz to resolve these issues expeditiously and effectively.

I'm a father to two of the most perfect kids in the world! Going to court in ILLINOIS fighting for time with my childeren I've only ever heard horror stories. Being a nurse with the same company for 28 plus years, I thought I was secure in my job. Through good and bad, we banded together to take care of our patients. I worked my way into management and was proud of my staff and my company. Until I became the patient.
Getting hurt on the job at first seemed like an untimely inconvenience. I was confident that I could get fixed and then back to my job. I was wrong. I was blocked at every direction by workers comp; jumping through hoops and not knowing which way to turn. I would be in literal tears with the case worker begging for them to do something to stop the pain, to please help me. I may as well have been talking to a rock.
When all else failed and I thought I was going to hurt forever, I found Jack Cannon and his team. To say I was blessed would be an understatement. His knowledge and background in navigating through the legal and emotional aspects of a workplace injury is second to none. He made sure we had money coming in, helped get me second opinions for the surgery I desperately needed, and was there for me every step of the way. He made the whole process easy and ensured I was taken care of. He and his team are easy to talk to and showed a level of compassion that impressed this nurse.
The two biggest things I learned:
1. It doesn’t matter how long you have been with a company, workers comp is like any other business and they are not on your side.
2. Don’t wait to call a lawyer if you are hurt on the job. I waited in pain for almost a year. If you are hurt, call Jack Cannon and his team. They are on your side. They will do the fighting so that you can do the healing.

Denis Gravel and his team have helped me through a very stressful and dreadful custody case. Mr. Gravel is a great and experienced lawyer who knows family law well. He is honest, open about realistic expectations/outcomes, and cares about his clients. Going through the court process when the little ones are involved is not a walk in the park. That is when you need the right lawyer to do what is possible and reasonable to ensure your child's best interest. Neal was my second lawyer in my divorce. The different between Neal and my first lawyer was night and day. Instantly my case got back on track, negotiations with my ex happened and were agreed to. On top of this, Neal was there for me personally as I asked many, many questions. I felt secure in a time of my life where I was at my lowest. He is a very honest lawyer and will tell you what you need to hear; no over promises, no grand statements. In fact, he has told me a few times that something wasn't worth going after.
Later in life I was remarried and Neal helped me with those nuptial agreements. He handled them professionally and with haste.
