I am beyond happy with the expert services provided by Mrs. Jackson. She informed me of my options in obtaining the quickest consensual divorce possible, and she worked extremely hard to make it happen. At our initial meeting I informed Mrs Jackson that I did not want this process to be hostile or labored. We went in with a game plan and no matter how nasty and hostile the opposing counsel became, Mrs Jackson kept her composure and displayed that she was a knowledgeable professional. I consulted Ms. Emery on an issue outside her specified field of expertise. She is an excellent listener and asked important, detailed questions to assist me in defining the type of attorney needed and then offered to confidentially seek someone in the field of expertise I desired / needed. Mr. Becker helped us with setting up our business and making sure we structured our partnerships properly and advised us as to make sure we had all our bases covered. He was also there for other matters outside our business needs to help advise us with some personal legal needs as well. He has always been responsive and on top of what was needed to be done. I received a mailing from Warth’s law firm as a form of ‘automated mail communication’. Unknown to me, I still had a outstanding judgement that I was under the impression had been satisfied. This was a petty offense and completely revenue driven by Ocean City. Upon contacting him, he educated me right away regarding my offense and suggested he’d look into ways to resolve it. What should one look for in a divorce lawyer? Well, I had no idea, but I’ve now been through the journey (and emerged successful). So, let me share what I’ve learned: Five things I’d tell a friend to look for in a family law attorney:
1. Knowledgeable and experienced about family law;
2. Tough and convincing in court and also part of the system (knowledgeable of and friendly with peers);
3. Diligent and demonstrates document preparation;
4. Informative and communicative while being realistic (no lofty promises, just the truth).
5. Last, and most importantly perhaps: Integrity and an honest concern for his clients
I’m able to put this list together, because Jonathan demonstrated all of these in handling my case, particularly his genuine concern for my children and me. This was important to me in my process. I’m so grateful to Jonathan for all he did and I highly recommend him.

Cares about clients and wants to get you a positive outcome without bankrupting you. I have learned that you can pretty much divide divorce attorneys into 2 categories: one group that simply wants to churn information back and forth between attorneys as well as between attorney and client in way that simply bills hours and accomplishes little until the 11th hour when it could have been settled in the first or second hour. And then there is a group, like Karen, that truly wants to problem solve, propose solutions, avoid litigation and get an outcome for her client that is both fair and reasonable in cost. Karen is honest, dedicated and she told me what I needed to hear rather than what I wanted to hear. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I was fortunate to have someone recommend her to me and, every time I mentioned her to someone in the legal community in Maryland (4x), the response from each attorney was overwhelmingly positive. If you are looking for someone who will be in your corner, fight for you, shoot straight with you(the good and the bad), look no further than Karen Amos.

I am very pleased with the services provided by Mr. Granat and his staff. I became acquainted with his book, Divorce in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia back in 1996 and purchased the book. Thereafter I purchased his then available product to produce a Marital Separation Agreement. Recently purchased a Quitclaim Deed and most recently the necessary Divorce documents to finalize my Separation and divorce.
He and his staff have been fantastic, and have always answered my questions and met the needs of my personal situation.
I have recommended his services to another friend who was unable to use Mr. Granat’s services, because, unlike my spouse who was willing to work out the Separation and divorce, my friend’s wife would not settle anything out of court. There were continuing issues with my divorce that continued for 10 years. My original lawyer was no longer working on these issues. I consulted 2 other lawyers to help solve the outstanding issues. I hired one of them. A resolution required me to go back to court and I wanted a lawyer to help me with this. Both attorneys contacted recommended an adversarial approach. After 10 years, I just wanted to end it.
Ms. Karkowsky understood my feelings and was supportive of my plans. She advised me on the necessary procedures and helped with the paperwork. She accompanied me into court. Prior to my case Mr. Berg managed to arrange the change of custody from a mother to a father of two daughters. In my case the custody of a son was changed from a mother to a father. In order to accomplish this Mr. Berg needed to have an understanding of every nuance of custody law and the ability to present a case in the same way that a salesman sells a product. Mr. Berg is a consummate player at both levels. At my request my former wife was not to be trashed in front of our son; we made the concession that she was an adequate and competent parent but that circumstances dictated that a change of custody would be in the best interest of the child. The circumstances that we argued against included that the mother was intending to leave the country permanently, that the living circumstances in her new home would provide no male authority figures, that the school calender would provide only about three weeks per year that the child could visit with his father, and that the mother would begin the move being unemployed. The alternative that was argued for was a father that had remarried and a family that the child already spent nearly half his time with each week and a step mother who was a clear asset to a good and secure home, with an American school calender which would provide about 11 weeks of visitation each year.

My attorney, Debra Cruz, saved me & my son's emotional and physical well being- literally. My life was completely torn apart at the beginning of my separation. There was absolutely no light at the end of my tunnel. Debra's education, expertise, & emotional support saved me from losing my son. She walked my family and I through each & every step- always guiding and supporting me. She never failed me- not even once. The court proceedings got extremely confusing & technical for me to handle. Several years ago one of my clients became dissatisfied and demanded a refund for work already completed. Unfortunately for me the client was an attorney and so sued me when I refused. I shopped around and found Mr. Sutton who was by far the nicest and most concerned attorney that I had spoken to. It was quickly obvious that was he genuinely interested in helping me. He recommended that I "put the matter to bed" by paying the client because it would be the cheapest and easiest thing to do. Although he was clearly correct I was incensed that my client was essentially blackmailing me because their attorney fees would be zero and mine would be significant. None the less I decided to defend my reputation even though it would be more expensive than settling the case with a refund. Mr. Sutton understood my concern for my reputation and agreed that although I was obviously in the right it was probably not the wisest financial decision I was ever going to make.
His zeal in defending me and his handling of the case were such that you would have thought that that he was the one being sued. He virtually took it personally and worked overtime even though I was paying him a fixed-fee for his services!!
Although we prevailed at trial, the vindictive client appealed (why not? It cost them nothing) and Mr. Sutton agreed to continue helping defend me at a substantial discount because he realized this other attorney was a.) wrong and b.) abusing their position as an attorney to try to run-up my court cost so I would stop defending myself and pay them. Thanks to Mr. Sutton's hard work and very clever approach to the issues the appeal judge was able to rule in my favor. Thank you Mr. Sutton!!
I think I can reasonably say that he is one of the finest attorneys in the country due to his professionalism, concern for his clients, and work ethic. Yet, despite all his hard work he was one of the most reasonably priced attorneys that I consulted in my search.
If you need legal help, do not hesitate to hire him, you'll be glad you did.

When I left my husband and made it clear I didn't feel safe around him anymore, he left work early and showed up at my daughter's house before I got there. She let me know and I was able to wait until he got tired and left peacefully before going there, but it was terrifying. My daughter convinced me to file for a protective order after hours that night (Monday), but I was so flustered I know I didn't do a good job of filling out the paperwork. I went to the first hearing (wednesday) by myself, and the judge sounded like I didn't have cause to be granted the permanent decree, he said I would get one for a week and would have the final hearing next week where my husband could be there.
I had Mary recommended to me, and even though I hadn't decided if I needed a divorce or if we could still save the marriage, I reached out for help with the protective order. Mary was SO helpful! She explained the process to me, helped me figure out what parts of our relationship would be useful to mention for the protective order, talked me through what my options were for planning a divorce, and was just really responsive. It took several weeks for my husband to be served by the police, and she was able to get me a waiver of appearance so I didn't have to appear every week. Mary talked to my daughter and prepared her to give testimony of how my husband was when he showed up unexpectedly in case he decided to contest the order. When he was finally served a few weeks later, it was on Tuesday afternoon that we found out that we would need to be there Wednesday morning. Mary even wrote an email to my daughter's supervisor at work explaining the situation and offering to get a subpoena if necessary for her not to get in trouble for taking time off to go with me! She was at the courthouse before us, talking to my husband, and told us to go ahead into the courtroom so we wouldn't have to interact with him. He was agitated, so much so that after the judge ruled he called her up to see what was going on, but she still managed to get him to agree to everything, I got to keep using my car, kept my dog, and he wasn't allowed to bother me for a year, which will give me the time to establish separation for the divorce. I highly recommend talking to Mary, especially if you need help with separation and haven't decided if you need to move forward with a divorce or want to try counseling. I was worried that a divorce attorney would be expecting me to move forward with a divorce and be pushing me to do so, but Mary was perfect, she listened to all of my concerns and even made sure while she was talking to him to check if my husband would consider getting therapy to work on our relationship, but he shut that down as always. Mary even took time out of her day to sit with me to make sure I was safe and my husband left after the hearing, because I was waiting on my ride home. I can't recommend her enough!

I was in a dire situation concerning my permanent residential status.
