From the beginning to the end Ms. Heather Stewart and the team at Mark's Law Firm described in detail proceedings for my case. Detailed ,complete and honest follow-ups and returned emails when questions or concerns were on-going. For my case, I needed to drop off paperwork intermittently at the office during the beginning of being represented, the office staff were professional and kind and available to me during normal office hours.

Mr. Washington was a great help in a process in which my children would have been exposed to drugs, alcohol, and a rough upbringing with their mother. Mr. Washington was able to help me become the sole provider for both of my children who are now grown up, graduated high school, and are healthy and happy 19 and 20 year olds. With his help of explaining my case properly to the judge, I was able to have full custody of my 2 children in order to raise them to be great citizens. I will always be grateful for Mr. Washington helping me to save my children’s life.

I recently had the opportunity to work with the Washington Trial Group regarding a child support case initiated by my son's mother. I cannot express how grateful I am for their expertise and support throughout the process. From the very beginning, the team was professional, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable about family law. They took the time to listen to my concerns and clearly explained each step of the legal proceedings. Their strategic approach was instrumental in ensuring that the case was resolved in my favor. Thanks to their diligent efforts and guidance, the case is now closed, and I can move forward without the burden of child support obligations that I felt were unwarranted. I highly recommend the Washington Trial Group to anyone facing similar legal challenges. Their commitment to their clients is commendable, and I truly appreciate all they have done for me. Thank you!

Gwen is an exceptional human. She is incredibly smart, offering clear, strategic advice that made navigating my legal issues much easier. Her direct approach is refreshing; she doesn't sugarcoat things, which helped me understand the realities of my case and set realistic expectations. What truly sets her apart is her responsiveness—she always made time to answer my questions, often getting back to me quicker than I expected. Despite her efficiency, she never compromised on kindness. Throughout the process, she was empathetic and supportive, making me feel valued and understood. I couldn't have asked for a better advocate on my side. Highly recommended!

Ms. Shea Fugate is the absolute best. I was really struggling with applying for my SSDI. I was lucky enough to be given her name from a lawyer friend of mine. She got back to me super fast after I called her office. She is so friendly and spoke to me with genuine concern and in a way that I easily understood what was going to happen. Any time I had a question, she was available. Not surprisingly, the dealing with the government took a while. But she saw it through and got my benefits for me. Would absolutely highly recommend.

I hired Mrs Cardena in 2018 to help me with a child support cause. I am a divorced woman with two children and I raised my children five years ago at $ 300 a month and hired her to help me do justice. I was paid Her $ 2000, the only reservation I had in hopes of a better days. My process took two years with a lot of disrespect, She never answered my calls or emails, She have no responsibility to her schedules, the only time She went to court with me, I was not aware of my case. Anyway, this same day I decided to close my case with $ 500 a month, because my mental strain made me a migraine. Here is my warning: if you Want to have migraine hires Lorena Cardama.

I hired Lorena to be my lawyer for modification of child support and majority of custody of my kids. Although it has been 10 long months and my case is not over, I wanted to write this review to show my appreciation. She is working so hard on my case. I had 3 lawyers during my divorce in 2010 and I can say by far, she is the BEST! I’m so thankful for her cause God answered my prayers after all these years by meeting her. I consulted with Ms. Jimenez after being served with foreclosure papers on a property I was renting from a person who turned out NOT to be the real owner. For lack of a better term, she talked a good game. She seemed tenacious and knowledgeable. She mentioned all types of possibilities (for instance, being paid by the mortgage company to turn over the keys). She was proactive in contacting the foreclosing attorney and immediately told me to stop paying rent. She even wrote a letter to the "landlord" to that effect. As our case made its way through the system Ms. Jimenez became more difficult to reach via phone or her client portal. Finally, a few days before our court date, which we were aware was going to be a telephonic appearance, I contacted her to find out if there was anything I needed to take to court. She did reply, and I thought I was set. On the morning of the hearing, she called to inform me that she had not pre-registered to call in to the court and asked that I request the judge call her. I had NEVER been before a judge before so was already super nervous. Fortunately, the judge did call, but the bulldog that I had dealt with for the previous 4 months turned into a sheep. Even though the "landlord," who had never presented a lease agreement between herself and the real owner when Ms. Jimenez had requested it suddenly presented a doctored notarized document (the judge asked why there was white out), Ms. Jimenez said nothing. So I did, and the judge said the validity of the document was irrelevant to the case. Ms. Jimenez again remained silent. That was a bad time for an A-ha moment, but it was just that. Following the hearing, which was granted to the plaintiff, Ms. Jimenez began negotiating. About 3-4 days into the negotiation, she declared that the plaintiff was insane (I was inclined to agree) and that she felt like she was working for the plaintiff not me (I again was inclined to agree) because of how much time she was spending communicating with the plaintiff. Then, poof! She basically walked away and stopped responding to my emails and phone calls. In a final effort to fully understand what was happening from a legal standpoint and to determine my next steps, I pleaded with her via email to reply. She responded in a stern email that was not characteristic of previous communications that the matter was closed and that negotiations had failed. So, ergo, the title of this review, "Disappointed." I went with a solo practice because I thought I'd get more personalized service, but this is what I got for the money I paid on time, I might add (more than $1K, less than $2K). She completely checked out, and that's just not principled business. Hope this review helps. Note: I did not share my name because this is an ongoing legal matter.

Alisha is extremely professional and knows her field. She returns calls as soon as possible and likewise with emails. The first things I learned is that Alisha is a good listener which for me is important so she can meet my needs and concerns. She started working on my case while on the phone answering questions that she knew could be answered immediately. I had a collection placed on my account 45 days prior to me closing on my house. I hired Alisha to get in contact with the company to fight the charge. It was a collection from an apartment that I never received a final bill for. The total amount was for about 5300.00 that they told me I owed them. In a about one week I received a call from Alisha with them offering me a settlement offer for 2300.00 which was a lot less than what they wanted from me originally. And I also received a letter stating that the Item will be deleted from the collection company after I paid them the 2300. Within two days I got an alert from Credit Karma that the collection Item has been removed. Very Much Thanks. Now I can close on my house with no problems. God Bless You!! Very Much Recommended!

Communication is desperately lacking, my requests to review motions before submitted on my behalf and communications from opposing attorneys were completely ignored, and the outcome due to their ignorance was less than acceptable. Worst family law firm in Orlando. I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy! Lack of focus, terrible communication, ignorance, and outright lies is exactly what you should expect from Paulette Hamilton and her staff. When you look for representation as you go to battle, please find another law firm, one that is aggressive, pays attention to you, and is detail oriented. This Clown show does not care about their clients, they care about money. I honestly don’t know how they are not embarrassed with how they handled my case and I will spread word far and wide so that nobody I know is taken advantage of like I was. PLEASE find a firm that is truly looking out for you - Divorce and child custody is hard enough without having a lackluster attorney representing you.

Mark Longwell is truly one of the best attorneys I've ever had the privilege of working with. His track record speaks for itself—100 out of 100! Wins! Every case feels like he's fighting for his own family, but instead, he's fighting for mine. Longwell Lawyers consistently delivers exceptional service, and I will continue to rely on Mark and his outstanding team whenever I need legal representation. Their reasonable pricing, prompt communication, and deep understanding of the law make them unbeatable. I highly recommend Longwell Lawyers to anyone seeking top-tier legal expertise without having to search through endless reviews—this is the firm you can trust to get the job done right.

Update* first and foremost, I have not had time sharing with my son since I asked Mouse to file contempt. That was 26 days ago. This was the action that Longwell advised against. Then the moment he filed for withdraw, the opposing side figured they don’t have to follow any time sharing. They know he has my $, and they know I can’t hire another lawyer without that $. Second, abusive? How does being disrespectful magically upgrade to abusive? Oh I wrote a review, so you lied. Get over it. Let’s define abuse. Improper use of something. You quit, you’re holding onto TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS, with zero legal ability to charge against it, and you refuse to return it to your former client so he can hire a new lawyer. That’s abusing funds. My pool boy returns the money within a week if he doesn’t provide the service. Third, you did not call me Mr Longwell, which means you could not have left a message. If you did, prove it cause I can prove you didn’t. Why would you lie about something so trivial. I’ve updated to include the most recent billing after they quit. It is an indisputable fact that they have now paid themselves more in one month to quit, than any of the other previous months they claimed they did diligent work. I hired Longwell lawyers early 2021 for a paternity trial. It is August 2024, no parenting plan agreement. No Trial, Carson Mouser is withdrawing claiming I am rude and disrespectful. I never hired him, I had hired a different attorney in their firm and my case was eventually “assessed to benefit” from being appointed Mouser. I had no choice in the matter. He had agreed to go to trial, I paid him $2000 to “prepare” and then Mouser requested $10,000 for trial. Eventually the opposition hired a lawyer and requested an update within 30 days or I was going to default. I sent an email to Mouser asking what I needed at the beginning of the work week. He never responded, at all. I sent him two more emails after the mother refused to exchange at the end of the work week, he didn’t respond. I had to call Mousers office, once he got on the phone I had asked him why he didn’t answer me and he said that I sent my email directly to him. My exact words were, “that’s a problem?” And Mouser said he’s done, he’s withdrawing. So I asked for a return of my money, he said to call the office. I call the office and they tell me they will ONLY RETURN MY MONEY AFTER I SIGN CONSENT and then they have 90 days to return it after the motion is granted. I ask for my file and they said they only turn it over after withdrawing. Let’s be super clear. They were paid since 2021 to go to trial. They have 12k specifically for trial. They have made their intentions clear they will NOT go to trial. But will NOT return money they do not intend to use. They are aware I have to respond to the courts within 24 days or I default. Can you imagine your former lawyer holding onto the only $ you had for trial after they filed for a trial date, $ which they don’t even intend to use? I don’t make a lot of money. They know that though. I have been the sole provider for daycare for the entire year, and barely can pay that. I see Mark Longwell has responded to a previous poor review about Carson Mouser. His argument will be I was rude and disrespectful. Even if your lawyers assumed I was disrespectful, their response is to blow the case for their precious client? Hold onto money I’ve paid for trial after filing for a trial? If anything I said here is untrue, you should sue me. Cause I’ve been left with the choice to either pay for a new lawyer, or pay for VPK. $12,000 being held. 40kish more already wasted. I should have never hired them and fired them the moment they stuck Mr Mouse on the job without my consent. I should have just bought oceanfront property in Colorado. The same exact result would be happening right now. No parenting plan, no trial, money for trial stuck with in a useless spot.

I can’t say enough about this firm. If you’re looking for an attorney that will make the most out of your case and is also compassionate look no further. This firm has the best attorneys in the area. They are always there when you need them and answer calls and e-mails right away. One of the attorneys in particular, Muna Abraham has gone above and beyond to fix something that was handled incorrectly by another firm. She not only fixed the issue in a timely manner, but kept touching base with us to make sure everything is going the way it should. She is extremely knowledgeable and updated in the changing laws and will work hard for you! Not every firm is the same, and if I could give this one a 10 star I would. Thank you so much!!

I recently hired Simon Wiseman to represent my husband in a criminal case, and I am incredibly pleased with the results and the quality of service provided. Simon did an outstanding job, managing to get the charges reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor and eventually dismissed. Simon was exceptionally responsive throughout the entire process. He kept us informed at every stage, promptly answering all our questions and providing clear explanations of complex legal issues. His communication skills and ability to explain our options in a way that was easy to understand made a significant difference during this stressful time. In terms of professionalism, Simon demonstrated a high level of dedication and commitment to my husband's case. He was always punctual, well-prepared, and handled every aspect with the utmost care and attention to detail. His expertise in criminal law was evident from the start, and his strategic approach was crucial in achieving a favorable outcome. The results speak for themselves: thanks to Simon's diligent work and skilled advocacy, the case was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor and then dismissed altogether. This outcome has had a profoundly positive impact on our lives, and we are deeply grateful for his efforts. Overall, I had an extremely positive experience working with Simon Wiseman and would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of a top-notch criminal defense attorney. His dedication, expertise, and exceptional communication skills make him an outstanding choice for legal representation.

West Family Law Group is exceptional. Richard West, Adam Sackrin and their paralegal, Karen Strong, are all top notch. I have spent over two decades of my career working actively with attorneys of varying specialties (thus, have a high bar), and this is the first time I felt a review was appropriate. They navigated an abnormal situation and troublesome attorney on the other side with ease.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
