I reached out to Hill & Moin LLP when I was in search of a NY based Accident Law firm. In my search I reached out to a number of firms and Hill & Moin were by far not only the most responsive but were so professional in all their communications with me. I both highly recommend the firm and would not hesitate to use them in the future should the need arise.

The trial team at this firm is top tier. The attorneys are assigned by specialized factors and what the firm doesn't have on staff, they will hire and litigate your claim/s. They always are prompt to respond, personable when ever on a call and clear and direct in the communication on your case. Yes, expensive. You get what you pay for, and if you want the best trial team on your side, it's this firm. Speaking from my case that took 11 months beginning to end. I was grateful for the time and effort the firm gave on behalf of my claims. They made working with the EEOC easy for me, and they will for you too. If ypu have a good case, and they aren't able to litigate it they still hold there end and are fair, and understanding words the client and the situation the claims placed the client in. Highly recommended for employment law matters.

Hiring a New York attorney can be a nerve wracking process. If you are like me, you first have to endlessly interview attorneys to find one that is even willing to undertake your matter if its not worth millions. Then, after you finally find the willing few, you select the one you are most comfortable with and hope for the best. Fortunately for me, this time around, I came across Mary Madeline Roberts. Right off the bat, I had a great feeling with her. She was extremely knowledgeable and versed in contractual matters and guided me every step of the way through the entire process. She raised extremely important issues that I would never have considered had I proceeded by myself and has already saved me more time and money than I can relate. Also, she was very generous with her time and spent a lot of time with me upfront getting to know me and learn about my needs before I even retained her. Most of all, she never nickle and dimmed me, charging me for every little thing along the way in order to pump up my fees. This is a rarity that I really really appreciated about her and unheard of in New York in my experience. There are so many firms out there that really take advantage of the little guy and I can tell you the Ms. Roberts is NOT one of them..... I highly recommend Ms Roberts to anyone with a contract dispute or who needs a great attorney who is highly competent, effective , gives you a great over all feeling and who treats you very fairly at the end of the day. I promise you you will NOT regret this decision. THANKS AGAIN MARY!!!!!!

It was my misfortune to hire Bluestone, who once he had the money in hand failed to delve into the issues and counter the false claims of a deceitful Trial attorney. A 4th Dept. Justice was not impressed with his oral argument where Mr. Bluestone was clearly remiss of the facts. Yet over the year, I recall he could only offer one word responses via computer. What I have now realized is that the attorneys representing my former trial attorney submitted a fraudulent letter drafted by the Church attorney! Because getting Joanne off the hook at any costs mattered more than honesty. This letter by Hall was NEVER accepted or entered in as evidence at the time of the trial. This manufactured evidence was drafted by a church attorney hoping the trial judge would go for it. He didn't. I was on the witness stand and the Judge walked in front of me and handed it back; as if to say; "nice try". Why did Mr. Bluestone not remember no one in my area wanted to challenge the Church and or Town. I made this clear so how was I suppose to find an expert when my attorney was not responding to any of my communications? Mr. Bluestone should humble himself to the facts instead of creating more confusion by grandstanding. His job was to know that the available evidence at my attorney's disposal was NEVER USED. During the oral argument he lacked an understanding of the fact that my attorney failed to provide the appraisal showing devaluation of my property. This was a large financial loss. Clearly he never intended to dispute the claim made by the defense or initiate any consultation on the disputed issues. He didn't know the facts and it was clear to the Appellate Justice. His refusal to have any conferences about the issues is rather peculiar. Mr. Bluestone relied on generalized statements that could be considered "Boiler-plate" themes and could not speak succinctly that included engaging, clarifying and showing sincerity. He needs to realize this case represented 8 years and he bungled the delivery due to a cavalier attitude. His words "they didn't like it"; was also misinterpreted. His performance was off point and they the justices were not impressed. He was paid more than to format the record which Btw he was anxious to finalize within 12 days of retaining him and judged that it was in my interest to leave out critical testimony before a Supreme Court Justice. Today I had a 25 minute discussion about this experience with a more accomplished professional. If an attorney is unwilling to make time after he is hired; I believe I should have backed out and suffered the financial consequences. He also had the monetary terms to his advantage early on along with a non-committal agreement devoid of this Motion for Summary Judgement. The facts were available to Bluestone, but he couldn't be bothered. And it was his job to do more. If your skillset is 50% in litigation why would you not include and and make any mention by citing any of these facts in your support of me? Yes, My basement filled with water but equally the entire lot on which the home was built in 1878 was also compromised and devalued by 50%. I was out of my home for nearly 19 months and got ill from the mold; displacing the family for 9 years due to now a more upgraded negligence claim against a Town and Church that refused to answer for this poorly constructed drainage system. My engineer was a credible expert* also never referenced by you. The drainage system never worked and this was outlined in my *4th Department Decision in 2011; which you never give any mention or credit to. Yet, you don't reference this higher Court decision in my favor. I lost all damages* compensation for permanent damage related to the devaluation of home and land that was now deemed permanent. As an Expert in Legal Malpractice you equivocated on the issue instead of providing factual information.

When Should I Hire a Financial Markets and Services Lawyer?

  • Financial product development: For financial institutions developing new financial products, a lawyer can ensure that these products comply with relevant regulations and market standards.

Hiring a lawyer with expertise in financial markets and services can help prevent costly legal disputes, ensure compliance with complex regulations, and protect your financial interests.

A financial markets and services lawyer provides a wide range of services, depending on the specific needs of their clients. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts: Lawyers draft and review contracts related to financial transactions, including loan agreements, investment agreements, and derivative contracts, ensuring the terms are favorable and legally sound.
  • Representing clients in litigation: Financial markets lawyers represent clients in disputes involving securities fraud, regulatory investigations, financial misconduct, and breaches of fiduciary duties. They also handle arbitration between investors and financial institutions.

  • Handling investment fund matters: For investment funds, financial lawyers assist with fund formation, management, and regulatory compliance, including preparing offering memorandums and filing with relevant authorities.

How Are Financial Markets and Services Lawyers Paid?

Financial markets and services lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many financial markets lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $300 to $1,500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the complexity of the work, and the jurisdiction. Hourly rates are common for advisory and compliance work.
  • Flat fee: For specific projects, such as drafting a particular agreement or filing a regulatory document, lawyers may charge a flat fee. Flat fees are typically used for straightforward legal tasks.
  • Retainer: For ongoing legal services, such as handling compliance issues over time or advising on multiple transactions, financial institutions may pay a retainer. This is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on various matters.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases, particularly litigation or arbitration over financial disputes, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they are paid a percentage of the settlement or judgment if they win the case.

It’s important to clarify the fee arrangement with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Financial Markets and Services Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a financial markets and services lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the size of the transaction, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Financial markets and services lawyers typically charge between $300 and $1,500 per hour. For example, routine compliance advice or contract drafting may cost between $5,000 and $20,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Flat fees: For specific tasks like filing a securities registration or forming an investment fund, flat fees may range from $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the complexity of the project and the lawyer’s expertise.
  • Retainers: Financial institutions or large corporations that require ongoing legal advice may pay retainers ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the scope of the legal services and the length of the engagement.
  • Contingency fees (for litigation): In financial litigation cases, a lawyer may charge a contingency fee of 20% to 40% of the settlement or judgment amount. For instance, if the case settles for $1 million, the lawyer may receive $200,000 to $400,000 as their fee.

Be sure to ask for a detailed breakdown of fees and costs during your consultation to ensure that legal services fit within your budget.

How to Check the Credibility of a Financial Markets and Services Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable financial markets and services lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for relevant financial experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in financial markets and services law and have experience in the specific areas you need help with.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients say about their experience working with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on financial markets or services matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in relevant legal and financial organizations, such as the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section or the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a financial markets and services lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Details of the financial matter: Provide a clear summary of your financial transaction, regulatory issue, or dispute, including key details and any potential legal concerns.
  • Contracts and agreements: Bring any contracts, investment agreements, or loan documents related to the matter so the lawyer can review them.
  • Correspondence with regulatory agencies: If you’ve received communication from regulatory bodies (e.g., the SEC or FINRA), bring copies of these documents to help the lawyer assess your compliance or legal exposure.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions about the legal process, potential outcomes, costs, and the lawyer’s strategy for handling your case.
  • Details of previous legal issues: If you’ve faced previous legal challenges related to financial matters, provide information on those cases, including any settlements or judgments.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice for your financial markets and services needs.
