I am not just pleased with mr Levine, I am impressed. I spent years and tens of thousands with attorneys that promised me the moon, in the end got nothing and was close to giving up. I was hesitant at first, but glad I decided to take a chance on what was going to be my final attempt at legalization. Mr Levine came tru with flying colors, money not only well spent Priceless! I lost count of number of referrals, yes there were a few negatives.. but I know first hand these cases and people were Crazy to begin with. L P H Leslie.

I have him a depósit ' cause I had a case going on with the other people in his office just to be ahead when we were ready to fill out paper work with him and we signed a document that stated once he started working in a case we weren't getting any money back, but he never did anything in our case and refused to give us the money back. He went to another place to continue with the cae becase the people on same office working in out case gave us the wrong information and since we were driving two hours away from them considered they didn't know what they were doing. When you pay someone to do a job is because you trust them and expect they do do it right but this people have no respect and are used to dealt with ignorant people that believe everything they say, thus time it didn't happen. Condideting we would be ahead with attorney si that we didn't have to be driving back and forth we gave him the money to hold towards what we were told was going to cost us, but never to start working on anything. SO IF YOU HABE THIS OFFICE HANDELIMG YPIR CASE DONT EVER GIVE THIS ATTORNEY ANY MONEY UNTIL HE STARTS WORKING IN YOUR CASE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY. SHAME ON YOU FOR KEEPING PEOPLES MONEY WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING.

We were referred by a family member. The family member is also a client, came to find out this lawyer never did any work as promised for both us and the family member. We called USCIS and found out that no paperwork was submitted by the lawyer. All of his clients should come together and report him to the Florida Bar. This is inhumane. He refuses to answer our phone calls.

I was very pleased with Mr. Lemy; he assisted me in my recent immigration's case. For over 10 years, I have been looking for a lawyer to handle my deportation case, I spent over $3000.00; I couldn't obtain any result, until I finally referred to Mr. Lemy by a friend. He was very professional and accessible which provided more confidence. Mr. Lemy is a very knowledgeable attorney who fights for his clients with honesty. I highly recommend Attorney Jonel Lemy to anyone with deportation, accident injury or any legal matter. Thank you for your time and effort in getting me a positive result.

Used Ms. Wright for L1 and Green Card application, documents were not signed, missing supporting documents not sent (which were provided), etc. There was a simple explanation that were required by Immigration Dept. and she couldn’t do that. Spend a lot of money and didn’t receive anything from this experience. Then she said I’m learning. We didn’t file with the FL. Bar, we just let it go. But still angry to this day about it.

Ms Wright is not a lawyer you want to have to go in front of a judge with. She falls apart. She lost the case because she was unprepared to present the case. She was missing documents that the judge asked for. She also failed to return my calls at the time leading up to the case. I spent more time talking to her assistant Betty than her. I would have taken this up with the FL bar but I was just fed up with the whole case.

Now that i know Mr. López was disciplined in 2018, i will push it again to have his licensed removed and won’t stop till they do. This law firm is the worst and has costed me a lot of money to clean up their mess. Call any law firm in fort myers and they will tell you about these people. Not to mention they have a felon that handles your personal info! Thomas Heller was arrested twice just in Lee county, and one was a violation of probation. Joshua Lopez is the worst attorney you could even try to hire. Look up the history of the firm and you will learn that he is not the only one who has been in trouble. But i will push to get my money back and to push hard to have his license removed so that no one else gets tied in with these people. They are terrible and i would strongly advise you to go elsewhere.

My husband hired this law firm because I was fined with tow tickets for the amount of more than 400 dollars. This lawyer went to the first hearing and seen that I was found guilty, he requested another hearing without informning me about this fact. I learnet about it only because I called the Lee county Clerk. Well, the second hearing was on May 3rd, bt he judge ( according to what Jessica told me) cancelled the hearing and closed the case. Instead of informing me the same day that I had to pay the fine immediately, I was said 4 days later, only because I called the office differnet times, that I had to pay the fine. Finally, when my husband called tehe clerk, he were charged 23 dollars for each fine ( late fee) puls taxes and the total was 499 dollars. I called the lawfirm, to say them that they should pay the 46 dollars for late fee, but Mr. Lopez did not call me back. Do not loose your money, this fine cost me about one 700 dollars,

Almost 7 years ago, I hired Luciana to help me with my Immigration process. Even though it was approved, I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. It's IMPOSSIBLE to talk to her, to have ANY help or information, unless you pay extra thousands of dollars! I wish I could say something good about her, but it's not possible. The impression is that she is always hiding from her clients. Even the people from her firm/company help her in hiding. After you pay, it's sure she will NEVER assist you with anything else. Never consider Luciana as your immigration lawyer! I hope she understands her clients better and changes her way of working.

Luciana is the worst lawyer you could hire. Reading the reviews from other people, I feel like I'm making the exact same report. She treats everyone the same. She doesn't respond to your emails, calls. She confuses you by asking for various unnecessary documents. She only sends invoices with absurd hours of work. She's not humane. She doesn't understand that when you decide to immigrate, you're already anxious, vulnerable, and she takes advantage of that. She can't guarantee that you'll be approved, that's clear, but she should at least show during the process that she's working hard for your approval. Only here do we have these people who recently decided to write these reviews, imagine how many other people she has harmed. Let's all file a complaint against her with the bar association. She can't continue to act like this.

I had a horrible experience with this company. My lawyer was Luciana, she was never available to talk to me (she always had deadlines to attend to and other more important clients, preventing her from talking to me - those were the excuses her secretaries gave me every time I asked to talk to her). She made several mistakes on my case and blamed them all on me. The few times I got to talk to her she made me fell terrible (as if it was my fault nothing was working out right) and was always charging me extra (U$ 5-7,000.00 each time things didn’t work out). Once, I waited for 2 months to talk to her. She overcomplicated my case and got it even denied. She reapplied it and still did several mistakes. I was asked for more evidences for the 5th-6th time, couldn’t talked to Luciana to know what was happening and her secretary charged me another U$ 5,000.00 just to talk to her. That’s when I finally got a new lawyer, who told me my case was pretty simple and my former lawyer Luciana was over complicating everything and also overcharging me. My new lawyer charged me less then half of the amount she was charging me (just to talk to me and explain me her mistakes…) to finish my case and finally it was finished without any other problems and without any further evidences asked. Luciana was terrible as a professional and also as a human being for over 2 years. I should have changed lawyers since the first time things didn’t work out as expected and shouldn’t have spent so much money paying her. I really don’t mind the money but her treatment towards me was always awful.

I hired John in March because a neighbor's tree had fallen and was suspended over my fence and shed. The owner was clearing the property and I was concerned it would make the partially fallen tree fall the rest of the way ,smashing my fence and shed and possibly rolling and bringing down other trees causing even more damage. John took a $750 retainer and said he would call the property owner. The neighbor continued clearing and working on the property and, in fact, did not slow down disturbing the tree at all. In April the tree fell further but still had not smashed my shed. I called John again and he said he would call the property owner again. The property owner continued working on the area around the tree and in May the tree then fell, smashing my shed and fence. I contacted John and asked for the retainer back minus an hour for the phone calls he made. John refused to return any money and in fact BILLED ME $300 MORE for my request for an itemized bill. I could have used that $750 to just have the tree removed but John assured me that he could help me. John will take your money, not do the job and charge you MORE.

I would NOT recommend this attorney to anyone. She is incompetent, not to mention very cruel and mean , , , which would be fine except that when children are involved you would think it would be her to make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the child instead of punishing the children because she "doesn't like" the parents (she needs to GROW UP). Please, avoid this attorney if you have children!!!! I have also read other bad reviews of her, she is a very poor attorney, not a nice person and makes basic spelling mistakes (just to name a few of her short-comings). She should be ashamed of herself.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MR MAIR SERVICE, I WENT TO THIS MAN TO FILE AN I-130, I TRUSTED THIS LAWYER AND HIS ASSISTANT SO MUCH, BOTTOM LINE I AM A GREEN CARD HOLDER, BUT I GOT MY GREEN CARD THROUGH A PREVIOUS U.S CITZEN HUSBAND, NOT KNOWING IN THE IMMIGRATION LAWS I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 5 YRS HAS PASS BEFORE I FILE FOR THIS NEW HUSBAND. SO EARLIER IN A CONVERSATION I ASKED MR MAIR IF I CAN FILE WITH JUST GREEN CARD, HE SAID YES U CAN, BUT AS A CITIZEN U ARE STRONGER. SO IN MY MIND I JUST THOUGHT THE PAPER WORK WOULD NOT GO AS FAST AS A U.S CITZEN, BUT I SAID THAT OK IF THATS ALL, ATLEAST MY HUSBABND WOULD BE IN LINE. SO COUPLE MONTHS I WENT BACK TO MR MAIR AND HE ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED TO DO, I SAID LETS FILE ATLEAST MY HUSAND WOULD BE IN THE FILING PROCESS, MR MAIR AND HIS ASSISTANT KNEW THAT THIS PAPER WOULD NOT BE APPROVED IF 5 FIVE YRS HAS NOT PASSED SINCE I HAVE MY GREEN CARD, BECAUSE ITS CONSIDERED A 2ND HAND FILING FR ONE SPOUSE TO ANOTHER. BOTTOM LINE THE I-130 WAS DENIED, BECAUSE THIS TYPE OF FILING WAS PROHIBITED, THEN MR MAIR AND HIS ASSISTANT PREPARED THIS I-130 AND DID NOT MENTION 1 OF MY PREVIOUS MARRIAGE OR MY HUSBAND,S. IMMGRATION REFER TO THAT IN THE DENIAL AS FAIL TO PRESENT SUCH INFOMATION, WHICH CAN ADD TO ME AS MIS-REPRENTATION, AND I MAY HAVE TROUBLE TO FIGHT THAT ISSUE WHEN I FILE MY CITIZENSHIP. IN MY HEAD ITS 1 OF 2 THINGS, EITHER MR MAIR IS NOT VERY KEEN ON IMMIGRATIONS LAWS OR RULES, OR HE JUST DONT TAKE ABOUT WINNING CASES, SEEMS LIKE HE RELY ON HIS ASSISTANT TO DO MANY STUFF AND SHE IS NOT THE LAWYER, AND THERE WERE SOME DOUBT IN HER AT FIRST BECAUSE SHE NEVER SEEMS TO KNOW THE PROCEDURES WHEN TO FILE A WAIVER, I HAD TO TELL HER I WAS TOLD THE I-130 HAS TO BE APROVED FIRST, BUT SHE WAS NICE AND COURTEOUS SO I HAD FAITH THAT THEY WOULD GET IT RIGHT. AFTER THE DENIAL CAME BACK, AND I READ THE WHOLE THING, I WENT BACK TO MR MAIR AND ASKED IF U ARE THE LAWYER, U KNEW THIS FILING WAS NOT ALLOWED, WHY DID U FILE IT???? MR MAIR SAID HE DID BECAUSE I WAS IN A RUSH, CAN U BELIEVE THIS PEOPLE, WOULD A COMPIENT LAWYER FILE A CASE HE KNEW WOULD NOT BE APROVED BECAUSE THE CLIENTGENRALLY IS ANXIOUS TO GET THERE LOVE ONE TO THE U.S... I WOULD NEVER TRUST THIS LAW FIRM AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT COMPITENT, AND BOTH MR MAIR AND HIS ASSISTANT KNEW THIS I-30 WOULD BE DENIED, AND THEY GAVE ME FALSE HOPES. Michael Benchetrit was my immigration attorney. He was horrible and a complete nightmare. He caused me to lose my adjustment of status on a EB-5 green card application and I had to reapply again. causing a delay of over two years and serious financial and life damage. I have filed bar complaints and also am currently filing a legal complaint against him as he advised me in writing on two separate occasions I could leave the country at a time when I could not. As a result, I lost over two years in the process and incurred a lot of financial damages. What I find more repulsive and shocking is that he covered up his mistakes when they came to light for over six months involving his wife. I had to reapply with another attorney. I would never recommend him.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
