Great experience with Mr. Antill. Fast response, to the point and on time. In regards of the tickets myself and my family members have gotten in the past, he has been able to dismiss 95% of them and make favorable arrangements for the rest for more than a dozen in the past 8 years. I will recommend him to anyone.

Anthill was recommended to us by a former client that was very satisfied. He did a great job for us despite having to deal with a teenager still under the influence of both substance abuse and a volatile teen love affair. He handled it all quite professionally. My son didn't get off scot-free and probably received the same sentence a public defender could have gotten him. Then again, he was guilty of the charge and not in the least cooperative in his defense. Mr. Anthill was always available, returned calls and arrived promptly in court. What Mr. Anthill did provide, in this instance, was taking the time to explain to us what was happening, getting a plea with the DA ahead of time and saving us time in court by having an attorney. I think his price was worth what he provided.

He is by far no 5 star lawyer,, that is false. Richard Sax is nothing but a crook,, who overcharges his clients for things he doesn't do to defend you. My experience with this man was embarrassing when it came time to defend me. He babbled about taking the deal I was offered and in front of everyone he raised his voice telling me I was a drug abuser and put me down suggesting I was at fault when he was suppose to be defending me. He was fired directly after our conference with the other attorney wasting a year of my time making false statements to me saying how he would fight for me when he does nothing but get red in the face and flustered when put on the spot. He will not defend you,, he pushes off court dates and drags it on and on,, to make money off his clients. He is an embarrassment to have as your lawyer. I don't think he is capable of doing his job. You van do better defending yourself as he does nothing you ask,, always disagrees and does only what he wants n does not care about his clients at all. He will charge you for many things and then lose your case that's the truth. Stay away from this crook. I've never had a lawyer who is so stupid. I've watched him do the same thing to peeps I've net n known for years as he ripped them off and lost each case I've heard of threw his clients. Somebody should stop him from cheating people out of their money and time. He can't even defend himself for his lame actions. Dirtbag lawyer in my opinion. Fact

Richard may have been a good attorney once - I now think he doesn’t care about his clients. Everything here is my opinion, personal feelings or facts of the case. A person is using restraining orders to stalk me. Desperate to recover my life, I reluctantly sought a protective order. I told Richard I only want to proceed if he was certain we’d win; he was pretty sure we could. After 2 years extreme PTSD, I gathered up last savings, paid his retainer. A huge step for me just to be in the courtroom with my abuser. We agreed to hiring a process server. His office called, insisted I find a friend to serve process or we’d miss filing date. High anxiety for me, never did get her served. I informed Richard, he said I’d wanted to be “near her.” First red flag for sure. Should have fired him then and there. He refused to become familiar with the prior case, could not convince him to be prepared. He not being conversant cost us dearly. In the courtroom, he was a complete greenhorn. My stalker took my claims and filed her own restraining order. Richard was unreachable - even his office doesn’t know how to reach him. When he finally responded, he said nothing new here - of course, it was my exact language! My stalker charged at me on the beach screaming and cussing. I couldn’t prove it, then lo, she brought in video which did. The video showed she lay in wait and images further contradicted her own Declaration. She lied 2x. Richard couldn’t win with that. My own witness described being harassed by my stalker 2x, followed out of the market by my ex with fists raised, spittle flying. She feared for her own safety and underwent six weeks of panic attacks. A County Supervisor’s wife, no less! Richard couldn’t win with that. My ex’s argument for running a stop sign to hit me was there were places I could have pulled over. I said I did pull over, her fool attorney just repeated himself. She did not deny the violent attack with a motor vehicle. Richard told me he’d won restraining orders just because someone gave someone the “bird”. I personally find it aggressive and yet my stalker proudly admitted it. Richard did not win. Richard presented his bill as if he’d won the case, a full 25% over his rate. The whole courtroom seem embarrassed as this doddering man was fully out of step with the proceedings. Ex and I were in the same restaurant together, no restraining orders issued. I never approached her, I never saw her. Oddly, my ex describes her own fixated behavior taking photos of me backwards over her shoulder, which photos contradict her own claims. Judge said ex gasped when she saw me, therefore deserves a 5 year restraining order against me, even though her testimony and declarations contradicted! I’m further entrapped by this person I only dated 1.5 years and want nothing more than to be left alone, worse off than before I’d met Richard. He failed to object, despite being asked, to the other attorney’s highly inflated fees, costing me an additional $5,000. I was suffering from PTSD so badly I couldn’t earn income. One word, object, would have done it. Richard’s invoice came in 3x over his quote, though no change in scope, venue, or the anticipated contention of opposing party, less work than promised, was unconversant. Entitled to copies of exhibits, Richard failed to request real-time, then refused to get them for me. Basic stuff. I feared I may have to move from my home. Richard quipped, “I think we did a pretty good job.” Really? She continues to stalk me. There’s nothing I can do, I’m disabled, terrorized, afraid to go out. COVID may have a single upside - I’ve been left alone more, and can finally get my head around what happened and write this review. It is my view that Richard Sax does not care about his clients, cases, profession. He struck me as lazy, uninformed, unresourceful, unskilled. He got me into far worse territory than I was. I highly recommend avoiding -

After fighting foreclosure on my own for years by raising legal challenges it was time to turn it over to a professional. Knowing that most homeowners lose I needed the best attorney possible because I couldn't lose my home of thirty years. After much research on Google scholar it was narrowed down to three or four attorneys or law firms in Northern California based on repeated success for homeowners against the banks. One stood out not only for having a published opinion but also because I'd hired him years earlier to successfully represent me in a partnership dispute and that was Richard Sax. He has all the qualities that you want in an attorney. He's a sharp and experienced litigator who's driven to win and respected by the courts and the opposition. He's also honest and wants the best result for his clients. His communication skills are excellent, he listens and works with the client and always promptly responds to emails which I understand is kind of unusual. There aren't that many attorneys willing to go up against big business and the banks on the behalf of the little guy but this is something at which Sax excels. Foreclosure litigation is complex involving multiple areas of the law and he is experienced in them all. Making his representation even more effective his practice includes highly regarded real estate attorney, William Matz. His paralegals and staff are always cordial and helpful and this means a lot in something as nerve wracking as fighting a financial institution trying to take your home. His successful representation has prevented my home from being foreclosed on and I give him the highest possible recommendation.

Since feb 2018 she will find a way to charge the hell out of you with no results what so ever in federal court. Her pleading are the worse i have seen in a long time. Absolutely horriable i have nothing but facts on top of facts with affidavits to prove much fraud. She wont get anything in by a dead line, she wont represent you she probably make a deal with the defendents and leavr her client out to dry. She even try to take crrdit for galskis case but whay she did was get the whole case dismissed. The only rrason why galski had a chance is went to appeal with different attorney. I asked her many times during our time since febuary i stated to her you do not rrpresent me very well at all. You do not have any fight for your client. She was in it to take as much from me get the case dismissed because she will not do pleadings or deadlines well at all. After sometime she will ask do you know anyone that go go to sale date and short the pre tender lender, all this she states after you give her thousand and thousands of dollars. She is in it for the money not for the client for wrongful forclosure, forclosure defense. If you are looking for an attorney for foclosure defense to take your money and have your case dismissed hire catarina office. Absolutely disgusting job , no fight , and will ask you to take a modification agreement 1.5 times more than your original payment from your pre tender lender debt collector servicer. Im here to fight so that is what we will do until these corrupt people banks, servicer, judges, and attorneys are held accountble period. Ron

We called Mr. Mayfield for an important and urgent matter that needed immediate attention. You can tell he's an attorney who makes himself available without asking too many questions first. I was able to speak to him on first call and he spent over 20 minutes covering all the issues and possibilities of the situation. We followed his sound advice and everything went well. I called him back to thank him and he offered to help further if/when necessary. His conversations are smooth and pleasurable without any rush or complication. Thank you Mr. Mayfield

Just very expensive and bad handling of the case. I am not a citizen and I was accused of DV. I came to know of Mr Mayfield from an immigration lawyer. In the very first meeting, when we did not have the police report or any evidence I was told straight that I will have to plead guilty and that I will certainly lose the trial no matter what. There was hardly any evidence the prosecution had against me. I told him multiple times that I wanted to go to trial and that I understand the consequences of losing the trial. I was told some very rude things that being from a country in Asia where there was news of atrocities against women recently, I looked like someone who would do bad things to a woman! That was very sad to hear from my own lawyer. Eventually, as I did not want to be with my wife, he kept trying to convince me to hire an immigration lawyer and a divorce lawyer to file for divorce. I did not fall into that at all. His law firm does civil divorce cases too. I was even sent a mail by him that my wish of going to trial would have grave consequences and I could end up in jail for years! Even though it was a misdemeanor and not even a felony. When I talked to other lawyers, no one believed me that he would have written such a mail. I actually showed the mail to them. Eventually, after running into an enormous bill of 10K usd and still him not willing to go to trial, I decided to move on to a different attorney who handled my case really well and was all prepared to go to trial. Eventually, my case got dismissed on the day of the trial. All in all, I ended up losing lots of money and got bad legal advice. I have 100% confidence that his knowledge of the law is excellent but to this day I do not understand what was his attitude towards my case!

Went to her back in March of 2021 and she wanted a $2,500 retainer fee a couple of days later she called and said that due to the circumstances of the case, she would need another $2,500. She told me it would take about 3 months for my divorce. Today, 12-20-2021, 8 months after she told me it would take about 3 months, I called her office and was told that she no longer works out of that office and was given a new phone number for her. I called her new number and i had to repeat my first and last name to the person who answered the phone about 5 times and was told afterwords that they would get back to me also sounded like either her daughter or some high school kid doing part time work answering the phones. one got back to me and this was approximately 6 hours after i called to find out about my divorce case status. Very unprofessional and over expensive, but even though i have not gotten any updates on my divorce status, I have gotten invoices for services rendered which have been none, except taking my money!!!!!

Things started out going well, but when it came to time to produce, the attorney I worked with ended up charging $2200 to research basic business law and then send me 2 forms he downloaded from atyourbusiness{dot}com and filled in the names on. How do I know where they were from, he didn’t even take the time to remove the “for more free forms, visit atyourbusiness{dot}com” footer from the files or put it on appropriate letterhead. In short, I paid $2200 for free forms and a person to do basic law research that I had already done. I expected much more from a “professional” business law attorney. I’d suggest staying away from this firm. You’d be much better served doing pretty much anything else in this instance.

I went in and out of the courts all by myself with no luck for 2 years. Served her several times and even though the mother never showed up, things didn’t change. They FINALLY helped me get custody but by the time I got it, it was too late. Mother took my daughter who knows where. Detectives are still looking for them. It’s been over 14 years since I have seen her. The family court system is broken, you really DO need someone by your side with experience navigating it. I only wish I knew about them and called earlier. Maybe I could have gotten custody before she disappeared. And they did it all for free.

As if it wasn't hard already being a victim of domestic violence, there Levitt & Quinn is to make it an even more grueling process. I applied for help over a month prior to my final court hearing. After jumping through many hoops: 1) traveling to and applying directly at the office 2) submitting additional paperwork that took much effort to collect detail behind 3) several delays in correspondence from L&Q and 4) needing to spend money on requested documentation, I wasn't able to even land a consultation. They were misleading with hope throughout the process. They could've told me "we are unable to help at this time," which would've sufficed instead of wasting the time and energy of someone who is already suffering.

Was appointed this lawyer and when I finally got hold of her, all I got was berated, and I mean just tore into me, as to why I wasn't in court. After I explained to her that I was not made aware of where the court was located but still drove the 259 miles on 4 hours of sleep in an attempt to make an appearance, she berated me some more for not showing, like I had said nothing at all. She offered no assistance. None at all. No advice. No recommendations, except for trying to get me to find another lawyer, Nothing. She did more defending for the case worker that failed to properly inform me of where the court was being held then she did for me. Made me wonder.... So if you like your attorney to treat you like a hostile witness for the opposing side and want no help or advice what so ever, hire her. If you want someone to be one your side, RUN elsewhere! And yes, I have already printed a California Attorney Complaint Form in order to report her to the bar to whom I have already spoken to about this. Hope this helps.

I was represented by Denise Shaw a few years ago when she was a partner at a well known defense attorney's office in my area. Ms. Shaw was very professional in her conduct with keeping me informed about what was going on with my case (a felony case including an alleged felony with a prior 1 strike). Ms. Shaw was able to get my felony reduced to a misdemeanor and I was given 3 years probation without serviing any confinement time or paying any heavy court fees. I will even be getting the record expunged when my probation period ends next year. Ms. Shaw was also very understanding in regards to having a $55,000 bail payment (10%) as well as the high cost of hiring a private attorney for a felony case, which was $20,000 at the time. Ms Shaw was so generous as to waive my remaining fees to her which was about $7,000 -$8,000. Thank you!

Mr. Brooks has a reputation for helping clients overcome legal obstacles that seem insurmountable, that's why another attorney advised me to call Mr. Brooks. I have very complex, personal and painful legal proceedings against me for child abuse allegations in juvenile dependency court and criminal court for allegations of violating a restraining order. This attorney, Mr. Brooks was so very kind and so very helpful to me his gentle helpful nature was the absolute best he gave his time freely to me he listened he answered he shared his extensive knowledge with me and helped me to develop a plan. He told me what I needed to hear I am thankful for his sharing with me the truth of the reality of the situation which I am currently in of having my parental rights to my children terminated and what remedies I have available to me. His words came from a very sincere genuine desire to be helpful to me in a time of great need, confusion and hopelessness. Mr. Brooks gave me competent and effective ideas and helped me to have a logical and practical plan that provided me with a renewed sense of hope. Mr. Brooks knowledge and years of experience in the idiosyncrasies of juvenile dependency child abuse hearings criminal defense proceedings is what enables him to find a way for me and to help me regain control of my life. I am so thankful to him for being a compassionate kind man who helped me in a time of great need I wish there were more people like him in this world!!!

Richard is not only a experienced Trial Attorney but also a man that has a heart of gold! Rich represented my wife in a case that had so much stinch of police corruption, and got much truth during the Preliminary Hearing by cross examining the witnesses. He had prepared many questions and delivered them so elequently yet brought out the truth and lies of the alleged Victim. Having been in law enforcement for over 28 years myself and seeing many Attornies who sell their clients down the stream, it was a breath of fresh air to have an attorney who really cares about unraveling the truth in a "deal making" DA office. Richard completely changed the course of the prosecution and drastically changed the case for my wife and 3 year old baby, who would have not seen his mother for years if Rich did not intervene for simply the truth! Thank you Richard! What you did for my family will always be remembered. You saved a wife, mother and little child from wrongful prosecution and many years of seperation! God bless you!

He made a good sales pitch to get my business, but he turned out to be all talk. And after I paid him, I rarely heard from him. Kerry proved to be everything you don't want your lawyer to be: Incompetent, unreachable, late to court hearings, and to top it off he has a huge ego! He calls from unknown number, to call him you have to go thru the switch board and leave msgs. Most of the time he doesn't even call back, and other times responds via email. His customer service skills does not jive with the rate he charges you. As he is amongst some of the more expensive attorneys. He collects all the money upfront, that should've been a red flag! [Who emails anything that needs immediate attention?] Told me to plead the sheet because he was too inept to negotiate a reasonable plea agreement. [why hire an Attorney if you;re just going to plead guilty to everything?] Charged me double the rate and said because it was two cases......after both were combined! If you are smart>DO NOT HIRE THIS IDIOT.

Awful!!! This lady is very nice person. I would NOT recommend her as a lawyer at all. I hired her, she dug up what she called a "companion" case and that case became her focus, me and mine becoming collateral damage. She had me do some of her work, she is very defensive, she runs around like a chicken with her head cut off talking about she has ADD, she gave me no guidance at all. None. I expected her to sit me down and let me know what to expect that's why I hired her. I could have lost all by myself. After she lost my case, in her pursuit of the "companion" case, rendering me unable to ever see my granddaughter. She asked me if I wanted her to continue on the "companion" case. I told her I had no more money. She said 'you do, actually, said she still had the two last checks for MY case. One was a $2750 check and the other was at $275 check. After she lost my case I expected her to return those checks. She did not. She cashed them. She lost my case with devastating consequences and then had the audacity to cash the two last checks totaling $3,025. Money grubber. Not on her game. I do not recommend.

From my own personal opinion and experience Ms. attorney Koliwer did not represent me well during my custody case. I found her knowledge of the law writing response motions to be almost non existent. I asked her several times to present evidence in which she repeatedly declined and was non responsive during our emails. I would never recommend her to anyone to ever attempt to acquire her legal services. I‘m in the process of gathering the evidence to submit a complaint to the California bar.

Kandy No showed appointments with me. She did not know the facts of my case. She did not present to the court clear and convincing evidence that I provided to her. The day after the judge finally allowed me to get her off of my case, my new attorney got the whole case dismissed and my child returned.

I met Kandy in the halls of vista court. I was completely lost in a nightmare divorce case. Kandy was like a legal guardian sent from up above. One of the hardest working attorneys I met. She’s not only caring but is 100 percent honest and overly fair that will keep both parties honest in requests or demands. I hired Kandy as my attorney but she was more like a mom and made me feel I was in good hands. Stuck by for a year and half from start to finish I could ask for anyone better to represent me

I hired Timothy Mulhere to represent me facing a charge for PC 245 (A) (1) F Force/ADW Not firearm: GBI case involving two other suspects/defendants. Basically law enforcement alleged that I was driving a vehicle occupied by two other suspects when one or more shot a boy in the eye with a paintball gun while riding a bicycle producing great bodily injury (GBI). In addition, it was alleged the two suspects went on foot to shoot paintballs and BB’s from a BB gun at property and vehicles in violation of PC 594 (A). The two suspects were later arrested and law enforcement recovered a paintball gun and BB gun from the two suspects. Since law enforcement did not believe that I was not involved with the other two suspects they tried to add an additional charge of conspiracy PC 182 to the case which was later struck down. Private counsel Timothy Mulhere did nothing to dispute or challenge the weak evidence and car of the prosecution. Fact(s): 1. Law enforcement never seen or established I or my vehicle was at the scene of the alleged crime(s). Made inference based on pure speculation and hearsay. 2. The alleged victim stated he saw a gold SUV possible a Chevy Blazer. I drive a gold Chevy S10 pick-up truck. Two distinctly different types of vehicles. Victim’s initial statements made to law enforcement and positive field identification completely contradict one another. Plus victims alleged eye injury should have came into question of accurately making a positive field identification or any claims. 3. I was never found with or possessed any weapon, or accused of possessing a weapon. Nor was I ever identified or accused of having any connection or association with the alleged victim(s). The only matter of evidence pending against me were the alleged two paintballs and paint splatter that was allegedly on my vehicle. The two paint balls could’ve been dropped there by the suspects without me knowing or planted by law enforcement themselves when searching my vehicle. The paint splatter could’ve been place by the suspects or law enforcement given the amount of time my vehicle was left unattended. Law enforcement claimed the paint splatter was wet which would be hard to believe given the physical properties and amount of time it takes paint splatter to dry. Based on these circumstances any competent or reasonable attorney would have moved or motioned to challenge the alleged charges and facts pertaining to the case. I’m not sure if he read or even attempted to read the police report or did any due diligence to investigate the weak evidence and speculative hearsay evidence of law enforcement and the DA. Private counsel Timothy Mulhere did absolutely NOTHING!!! During preliminary stages he was hard to reach and did not provide much information or insight into what was taking place. Results: Private counsel Timothy Mulhere advise me to take a plea deal and plead no contest which was a huge mistake given the circumstances and weak evidence against me. I was convicted and placed on probation for 3 years for a crime I never committed all due to the incompetence and lack of efficient counsel and representation of Private counsel Timothy Mulhere. Today I’m still suffering and paying for Mr. Mulhere’s incompetence and horrible advice of taking the plea deal. Mind you this took place in 2010. I would not have even given him one star but I guess you have to for rating purposes not sure. Complete waste of $4,000 + dollars to end up with the results that I did given the facts and circumstances of the evidence against me. I would not recommend hiring Timoth Mulhere based personal experience and lack of performance. Not worth the money or time. Especially if he’s not going to do the job.

Had a .02 and got convicted of a wet reckless, which later turned into a 2nd DUI. and screwed me bigtime Multiple lawyers told me that the .02 should have been thrown out by a lawyer who spend more time on it, and that I probably would have gotten the same result if I saved the fee and just used the court appointed lawyer. Nice guy but never got the feeling he spend a lot of time on my case.

I was looking at this site and saw the negative review from the guy whose case was dismissed and I am surprised that he was complaining about a dismissal. I had Mr. McBride deal with a Felony Assault with a Weapon arrest back in 2010 and I was happy with both the result (no conviction on my record) and the service (he immediately presented my issues to a supervising District Attorney). I would use this office again without hesitation as the fee was a fraction of what other lawyers charged for this. Maybe things changed or maybe the other client really had different expectations than I did but, I don't see how you can complain about a dismissal?

I was arrested on a restraining order violation. Hired Mr. McBride as my attorney. This was a very, very easy case for ANY attorney to have dismissed. My opponent had removed a critical part of the Judges order in the restraining order which prohibited me from being arrested. When the Sheriffs did not see that order, I was arrested. Mr. McBride spoke to the District Attorney assigned to my case and immediately showed the DA the discrepancy in the two restraining orders: One said I could not be arrested (mine and the original courts), the other did not have that page (my opponents he gave to the Sheriff for evidence). The DA immediately asked Mr. McBride, "How do I know your client did not write that himself and stick it in there?" (fair question). Mr. McBride said, "You don't. I don't. Get the original court order and get back to me." When the DA obtained the original court order and saw the original and mine were identical and my opponents copy had that critical page missing, the DA knew immediately that page was removed and, knowing there was no way the DA would win this case, dismissed the case before trial. Easy case to have dismissed before trial. Why so few stars when he won my case? Having Mr. McBride return phone calls was a case in futility. This attorney just NEVER corresponds with his clients. In my case, the first meeting with Mr. McBride and the DA was in November. The case was continued until Dec 18th for the DA to receive the original court order. After December 18, I did call Mr. McBride a couple times, hoping to get an update before the Christmas break. No such luck. I phoned Mr. McBride at least 10 times in January. Never a return call. I phoned Mr. McBride at least 5 times in February until he finally answered his phone. I asked him for an update on my case. He said the case was dismissed back in December. I asked why he didn't call me or send me an email or a text to let me know that it was dismissed. Mr. McBride said, "The court should have done that." No Sir. You're MY attorney. I hired YOU. YOU do that. Not the courts. That's what you get from Mr. McBride. Good luck receiving updates or a courtesy return phone call. I'm sure when Mr. McBride improves on this much needed aspect of his practice, his ratings will dramatically improve as well.

Here's the story of why I keep learning English. I went to the USA 31 years ago and was in Clayton, California. I stayed with a judge & lawyer's family for 28 days, and I was warmly treated. Those happy memories inspired me to study hard and work hard. I wanted to have a better life on my own. Now I'm an art teacher, teaching bilingually in a junior high school in Taiwan. I wish I could say thank you again to the host family, Mom & Dad, the most generous, kind people I've ever met. I am learning English at Rachel's English Academy and from some great American teachers, like Vanessa, Lisa, Jackie, Wes on YouTube, etc.

This woman is a rude and vile person. She was once a substitute attorney for parents at one point in time a few years ago, now takes part in the cruel and inhumane cash for kids corruption scheme of family court, under the guise of court appointed representative of the children and their best interests. I am apart of a parental advocacy group that educates the community (almost daily), on the horrors of the despicable acts that transpire at the walnut creek courthouse. Yesterday I was sitting under a tree at the courthouse minding my own business and taking a break. She sees me on a regular basis. But yesterday when she was exiting the building she made a beeline for me she immediately started an interrogation, and verbal assault upon me, Unintaginized, which startled me and shook me, a tirade of insults she spewed forth at me. She appeared to be under the influence of maybe multiple substances. And her words were hurried and sometimes slurred. Her attack was over quickly, and she bolted towards her car immediately after leaving me stunned. All the while a man had been standing in very close proximity to myself and was getting ready to enter his vehicle and leave he stood there baffled and staring at the event unfolding before him. When she left she was driving erratically through the parking lot. The Man Who consoled me because he couldn't believe what he had just witnessed. He was very upset that this person who is supposedly a professional would do this to someone. I have now filed a police report, and if she harasses me again I will be refiling a restraining order.

Four years probation, 16 weeks of DUI classes, 52 weeks of child endangerment classes. After completing all my classes, paying all fines and completing my house arrest we went back to court and Sean was able to have my probation terminated early and completly expunge my record of all charges. I hired this guy to help me get my record cleaned up. I realize now that I made a mistake in paying him and could have done it myself for free, if only I had known how easy it was. But the reason I'm giving Mr. Chase a poor review is because every time I called him with a question or advice he acted very rude and always seemed to be in a rush, had no time to answer a few questions. But now i am convicted of a felony because he never discussed my caae details with me i had to seek counsel from free consultations because i couldnt afford to hire an attorney. My whole life is ruined. I understand public defenders have alot of case loads and probably overwhelmed . but i am devastated because of this conviction it is already having major negative consequencea in my life.. I hired Mr. Bruce to deal with my divorce and custody issues. It was and is a very serious matter because my ex husband is extremely abusive. He didn't hit me or our children . What he did was worse . I have read a lot on emotional Abuse and I know there is plenty of information about it . I assume a family law attorney has to have some idea about verbal, financial abd psychological abuse because its a huge problem in society. He was very sympathetic and interested when I went to himfor a free consultation. He spoke with authority and put a positive spin on all of this , assuring me we couldn't lose.. I wasn't thinking straight, which is not unusual for an emotionally abused woman. I just saw that he cost less than other lawyers and he seemed concerned about children me . I wish I asked around before. Instead I paid him then I closed the gate after the horses got out. Naturally, things are very scary when you're in a divorce, and my husband made sure to hire a big shot. When we had a hearing , i wasnt sure what I thought of my attorney's performanc . I could tell he was not prepare--the judge was annoyed by him and said so . That day we lost and after court , I tried to get Mr. bruce to explain what was going on. He rolled his eyes and barked at me ysing terms ai disnt understand. Later when I tried to call with questions about my case, he made it clear us had no time for me. I know heis busy and I can be a littlle dense , but happened every time I called or we had court. I think he got hostile becaise he told me I was bothering him. He was losing my kids to an abusive monster and wasnt gping to tell what was going on? I started to ask around about this lawyer and no one had any thing positive to say . He is rude, incompetent, disorganized , sexist ,mand all kinds of things people told me . I jave a cousin who works in the court house and she made it clear that the judges just didnt like my lawyer. That doesnt seem very fair to Mr. Bruce or his clients .Youre hoping things are more honest in situations like this but at this point I didn't like my lawyer mucb either. He didnt look me in the eye . He always seemed mad and I could not get a strught answer . He told me he was going to charge me hunreds of dollars to talk on the phone because I used up all the free lawyer time. I can tell you it was not free. It took up time, cost me plenty and all he did was make things worse. I just decided I was better off on my own. a hold of him.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
