This lawyer says that the law is black and white and you can't change it. He always seems to be working for someone else but not you. You can call him till your blue in the face but he will wait at least two days to call you. You want to know your court date? Well don't wait for him to let you know. The other party is harassing you, well don't count on him. I don't know what he is getting paid for but I spent way too much money on this dude.

This man has integrity. He has an unbelievable presence in the courtroom, (And I now understand how crucial this is.) He stands for justice. He is fair. And, Tim is an attorney that will FIGHT for you. I would pay this man his weight in gold because that is what he is in the courtroom: golden.

He handled the charges appropriately and mitigated the damage to misdemeanor from felony charges. His followup to ensure that the case was fully closed did not happen. His knowledge of the full law and ramifications of outcomes were not fully within his scope. Intent was good though. Aspects of his shortcomings cropped up years later to haunt me.

Decent guys on a personal level, but this Review is about the Professional Legal Services that I paid for. Pros: Aggressive in the first two days. Cons: Lacks communication, Lacks follow through, Lacks Aggressive Representation, Lacks Thorough Legal Counsel, Uses Deceptive Tactics Against Their Own Clients (as I was "ambushed" in their office with video that actually helped my case)... I was not impressed with the representation that I received from this firm. Although the attorney stated to me at the end, "You should have never have been charged", he did little to nothing in showing that in the Courtroom, to the Prosecutor, or even to the Judge. The attorney spent more time trying to convince me to plead "Guilty" without being able to show me what law I broke. As one attorney expressed to me that the Judge pointed out "Show me the Crime", and no one was able to. In one breath the attorney stated "The Judge asked what Defense Strategy I planned on using, and when I told her, she shook her head No"... Two weeks later, I inquired about the Defense Strategy, and the attorney stated "The Judge has not rendered a decision on that."... There were several instances like this, but it is always excused away by "That must have been an misunderstanding or miscommunication." In the Motion To Suppress Hearing, the attorney was told by the Judge, "The statute you used to justify the Request To Suppress actually supports your Motion to be Denied.". The attorney had no idea what he was doing. I sent repeated emails, texts, and left messages. However, my correspondence was rarely returned, even though I paid the agreed retainer on time, in full, and was completed early. I received a return call after weeks of waiting. The call I received was from an attorney that wasn't involved in the case. The attorney apologized on behalf of the representing attorney for not receiving the "Aggressive" representation that I paid for. It has been 120 days since the "Sentencing Hearing", and I still have not received the Judge's written details in the order she imposed. The "Sentencing" is 30 Days over, and still no communication from anyone in this firm. Due to not getting the Order In Writing from the Judge, my career has been destroyed, my livelihood taken from me, and no word from anyone at this firm. If you want to get "Hosed" in Court; hire this firm.

Beth Mertz has to be one of the worst people I have ever needed help from in my life, I am now being harassed by people in the community and I have all the information that I was screwed over by her, and the prosecutor did not give me all of my evidence. Beth did not do her job or she was working with the prosecutor, how did she not get the information from the officer that gave me the tickets that said in her own words that she never seen anything or left her office I knew I was screwed when she said "what was my defense?" I didn't think I had to do her job, my defense is her or that is what I assumed anyway. I also believe she was the one calling the news so I looked bad. I have never seen the News take any time on a case like mine. (And I'm saying this after everything got dismissed) I have nothing to gain by saying that after calling her to say thank you and ask for information she decided to play victim for my curiosity on reason for dismissal. She said she helped me but I never got an idea with what. She said the case was dismissed on their end. After telling her I'll call her back at a better time she got angry and told me she would not be representing me further.... she needs to be striked Update on 1/10/24 she never actually got anything dismissed and missi representation. She then formulated a lie so that Rosemarie would be against me from day 1. She never looked back. She continuously treated me like the bad guy throughout the year we were forced to work with her as our ad litem. I never stood a chance at maintaining the 50/50 time I had for 7 years prior. She ignored proof of emotional, mental, and physical abuse that my ex had subjected my daughter to all because of a personal bias against me. Rosemarie was out to get me just as much as my ex. Where do I start with my review of John Galasso?? I'll start by telling you that I never met him. I asked him to meet in person so that we were fully prepared for my hearing....he would not find the time. At one point he told me that his office was at his home so he wouldn't. Then maybe we should meet off-site at a restaurant?? He was extremely arrogant. I was dealing with a refinance of my home as part of a divorce. John Galasso kept telling me he knew more than the folks at the bank and that he expected things to be done his way. No Mr. Galasso...you are the attorney....but I will do what the mortgage and title companies tell me to do on that part of things. He would send threatening emails to me that he was going to quit if I didn't do exactly what he said with the refinance. His profane language was grossly unprofessional. But the best one....this guy never even came in and talked to me on the day of the hearing. I was waiting in a conference room. He literally walked by and told me he was going to talk to the magistrate. He did that, exited the courtroom, walked by conference room, and left. I literally had to go into the courtroom to find out the outcome of the hearing. It was the most mind-boggling thing I have ever seen. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO BUSINESS WITH JOHN G GALASSO!

Do not be fooled by any positive reviews this man may have, they must be him and his friends leaving nice comments. I regret using Gallaso to represent me. It was my first (and last) DUI. He did absolutely nothing. Spent no time on my case, barely asked me any questions at all. I was CONVICTED of DUI, had 1 year probation, and had to do rehab. All for driving under the influence my first time, with no accidents. It’s as if I had no attorney at all, except it cost me over $4000. Afterwards, when I tried to complain a little (I’m very soft spoken) he got an attitude and blamed me for getting the DUI in the first place. Isn’t your attorney supposed to be there for you instead of blaming you? Completely incompetent, condescending, and has a big attitude problem with a woman questioning him about her case (no matter how nicely).

I have been a client of David McArtor and office for 3 years for custody matters. I can not say enough about him and his office staff, especially Jess. She was always bright, understanding, easy to talk to! David ALWAYS made me feel comfortable and confident in the decisions I was making from the initial consultation to the final resolution. He is excellent with communicating, being transparent, and ALWAYS ensuring that my rights as a parent were protected and that the best interests of my children were always prioritized. He truly took my case to heart. David and his staff treated me fairly and made sure that I understood everything that was happening in my case. He and the whole team were very knowledgeable, supportive, responsive, proactive, patient, hardworking, courteous, organized, demonstrated exceptional professionalism, expertise, and dedication.Their thorough understanding of family law and attention to detail were evident throughout the process. They kept me informed every step of the way, promptly, addressed any concerns I had, and consistently advocated on my behalf. David always made me feel HEARD, as so many attorneys out there are only concerned about money! David is definitely NOT one of them! Walking into the office as a scared single mother of 4 children, David and his staff were very welcoming and now have become part of my family! I would not have trusted anyone else with my case! 1000% highly recommend David and his whole team to anyone in need of legal representation for custody and child support matters. For the preliminary meeting he sent an assistant that wasn’t prepared. Embarrassed me and himself in his inability to answer the Magistrates questions. I would definitely NOT recommend or use again, Did none of the work for my case, I did it all, NOT prepared for final court hearing, slept through almost the whole hearing, does NOT LISTEN to his clients and their wishes (or expectations), he is not knowledgeable, does not explain details or offer any, Not a go getter, does not fight for his clients and then charges like it was a High profile murder case.

Do not waste your money. He mostly sleeps. Was not prepared, didn’t even know the facts in my case, lied to me and my witness and left me and my children in a worse situation than before.

We retained Ms. Clark for a custody matter and once we paid the $5000 retainer, which we never received a contract or receipt for, she almost completely quit answering messages or calls. Ms. Clark promised to immediately file custody papers, and both times she failed to do so as promised. Then, when the issue cam before the magistrate, James Palmquist instead of Ms. Clark appeared at the hearing. Mr. Palmquist, obviously unprepared, bullied our daughter into signing an agreement that even the magistrate seemed to question, and which has caused complete chaos. When we fired them, they refunded about $1800, but they kept over $3200, for which we have yet to receive an expense breakdown nearly 2 months later. We have retained new counsel who are now burdened with trying to undo the mess the Palmquist's firm has created. We intend to pursue this with the Ohio Bar Association and are considering other action.

Did not show up to my first court appearance and left me without Council. Then when I was trying to explain what happened he did not want to hear it. He told me he sent my paperwork in the mail that was never sent. Said he sent it to the wrong address. Then after I told him the address I still never received the court mail. For someone doing this job for nearly three decades I guess I just expected too much out of mr.dosoma. I understand most public defenders just want to get on to the next one, prosecution is worried about their conviction rate but I don't feel like he had my best interest at mind. If he did he wouldn't have lied to me. made the executive decision to take my case to trial blindly. I asked him to do three things and he did none of them.

He was very unprofessional the entire case. Showed up late, did not explain my case, or fight in any way. Any lawyer worth a damn would have had my case dropped or reduced.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
