Terrible experience. The firm over billed and under delivered. Attempted to resolve the repeated issues with them multiple times but they could careless. They are more focused on over billing than they are on their "clients." In all fairness, I only worked with a few of their attorneys before I cut ties. My experience does not speak for the entire firm.

Rawlings agreed to consultation re my surgical injury after I posted on the Bar's matching service. During what was supposed to be a 30 minute consult (actually he only gave me 15), he all but said that my case was very strong. No excuse for the level of injury I had suffered during a routine surgery, he said. I was so encouraged and thus eager to proceed. Turns out, he wanted $1000 (on top of the 52 paid for initial consult) to "read medical records." I delivered these to him (which I have since learned is not how most lawyers do this - THEY get your records and work on contingency), paid him, and after he failed to appear for our follow-up appt to discuss his findings, he finally called 3 weeks later to say, too bad, no case. Why? Because I should have known the complications of this surgery, he said, and besides, I had signed a consent form. If this is what the case hinged on, why didn't he ask me up front if I'd signed one? Why did he even need to read my records? To add insult to injury, he mailed my records back with a letter saying that after his careful consideration, "[my] mother's case" wouldn't stand! He didn't even know who was injured. $1050 for nothing.

To the law office of Jocelyn Stewart. After a 26 year long stellar career as. Green Beret, I was facing 7 felony charges from my ex wife. These charges were all false allegations provided by my ex wife to my chain of command. The Army never once had my back. The Army labeled me a criminal from the first time my ex wife made these allegations. I went through a 3-1/2 year long process that was harder than any military deployment. From the first time we talked to Rob, there was just something about him that was different. He wanted us to do our homework and read his bio before we made a decision to hire him. My outlook on the Military Justice system was very low. I do not trust lawyers or the Military anymore. Rob had my back from day one. His passion, dedication are unmatched. The way he handled my court martial trial was second to none. His heart was in it from the start. He gave me his all. Although I knew in my heart I was innocent of these false allegations I still faced 7 felony charges from the Government. I was scared, I was worried and faced 40 years in prison if I was found guilty. After a week long trial and Rob’s heart felt and passionate closing arguments. I heard the words Not Guilty. My family and I can not thank him enough. I can finally retire with an honorable discharge and all my benefits. Thank you Rob!!! De Oppresso Liber!!!

Unsatisfactory experience with Heidi as a parent coordinator. Listens to react and not to understand. In a year as PC she has been unable to resolve any issues and lacks the organization to keep track of or manage any outstanding issues. If you question her billable hours she will falsify statements in her motion that she knows to be untrue. Would not recommend as a PC and certainly not to represent as an attorney.

I was so thankful that I had Ms. Julianna help me with my case. She seemed to really care about me and the problems that I was facing. My (now ex) husband and I were married for almost 30 years. I raised our 3 babies but never had much of a job outside of the home and am disabled now so I can't work. My ex refused to help me out with money. I had a really hard time with money and Ms. Julianna worked with me and gave me a payment plan and didn't make me pay a crazy amount of money up front. Ms. Julianna was my lawyer for a temporary alimony hearing before a judge and for a separation agreement for all of our assets. She did an amazing job at the temporary alimony hearing. She got my husband to pay me a monthly amount that I am really happy with and also got my husband to pay all of her attorney fees!

Julianna was the second attorney I had for my case and I could not have been more happy. My wife (now ex wife) moved in with her parents in SC and took our baby girl with her. The first attorney I met with told me I was SOL b/c my wife was a stay at home mom and moved in with her family. When I met with Julianna she said we should immediately file for custody and fight for my daughter to return to NC. She was professional, kind and very responsive to my (probably annoying) emails and phone calls We had a custody trial and everything. Julianna thoroughly prepped myself and my witnesses. We felt very prepared for the trial. She asked us great questions and asked the baby's mother even better questions - she definitely "put her on spot" several times. You could tell the judge and the other attorney respected her. In the end, the judge ordered that my baby girl return to NC and gave me full custody of our daughter (unless my wife returned to NC - then it was 50/50 custody). I could not have been more happy with Julianna as an attorney and have recommended several of my friends go to her for their divorce.

Julianna is extremely nice, easy to work with. She was a breeze to communicate with (very accessible, returns calls and emails, etc) I struggled with the category ratings because she is trustworthy, responsive, etc- but I think it depends on what you hire her for. She was my attorney in a high-conflict custody case, and it became apparent, rather quickly, that she was not comfortable in a court room. It may have been lack of experience, maybe it was nerves having to face a very experienced & tough opposing attorney- but she struggled with questioning when I was on the stand. The judge did not allow me to answer most of her questions because of their phrasing. Documents that I needed as evidence were not submitted to the court through the proper channels and were deemed inadmissable. She lacked the "quick thinking" on her feet, and overall confidence needed in that setting. She does understnd the law, and she does care about her clients. But if you find yourself going to court, I may consider you find an experienced trial attorney with a proven record.

He doesn’t relay information effectively or at all. He is also a personal injury attorney. I've had an ongoing suit with George Mast since 2019. He took me and another woman to court for unpaid legal fees that we never knew we owed because he admitted in court he had the wrong address due to his own negligence. Although he had our email addresses the whole time and contact information via phone he did everything through the mail and wrote down the wrong address even though in our file the right address was there. Long story short he sues us takes us to court for $19,000. In the beginning we were giving absolutely horrific legal advice he was ignorant enough to say a separation agreement does not need to be notarized in North Carolina to be valid which is not the case. As a matter of fact we had proof that the notary signed the separation agreement without the wife present due to her illness. We told him this and he said it didn't matter. Crazy!!! There was no more money to fight this battle and he basically told us just sign over the house. In court the judge even corrected him about the separation agreement and said it absolutely has to be notarized... what an embarrassment this man is. The man is 87 years old and has no business practicing law and putting other people's lives in his hands. Long story short The judgment came down to 10,000 which he still did not earn. So a judgment is being placed on a woman that is dying of cancer that lives in a trailer in Florida and a single mother whose husband died last year. Due to his negligence a house was lost and an elderly woman was left with nothing. We have every intention to move forward with a complaint to the bar association . He was also caught billing for his mistakes. He made errors in paperwork and had to go back and fix them and charged us for it. On top of it lost 120 pages of legal work done by a prior attorney. It's unbelievable how the court system works now. But at least Johnston county courts heard first hand how negligent and irresponsible this man is and his firm. I trained monkey would have done a better job for us. Do not ever use this firm or George Mast. www.mastfirm.com

I was billed over and multiple times for what, I'm not exactly sure. Before even my orientation to mediation, I was billed 3 grand. Can't imagine what the cost would've been to even mediate or more less, go to court. I had to ask the same question multiple times to get a response and was billed for the multiple communication attempts! Seriously? I sent in payment which still wasn't reflected on my bill a month after they cashed my check. Still waiting for a response from the man himself about the exorbitant fees. Of course, 3 days later, I'm still waiting in limbo. Keep looking unless you want to pay a lot for nothing!

Mr. Vitale was my court appointed lawyer due to a DSS case with my family. It was all based on my abusive husband's lies about me, and his real abuse. He made DSS believe his coverup. Mr. Vitale did not speak in my defense at all in court, not doing anything to try to reverse the court's opinion (not based on fact.) During the DSS meeting with me, he kept making sure that I was going along with them, not contradicting their lies. He made it like all the DSS's opinion (which was the complete opposite of the truth) was concrete fact, and I didn't have hardly any chance. He did nothing to defend me or to try to help them to see the truth. He himself didn't even listen to me. He kept shutting me up. When I went to say something, he would say "shch! Don't talk! Just listen!" He favors men, and so does not care at all about truth and children's welfare. They need to be with their mother, not their father who is an abuser. He cared not at all. His actions have led to detriment for my children.

On 10/27/2021 I was facing a criminal contempt charge. This was a direct result of following the instruction of Lancaster and St. Louis to file a motion to suspend visitation due to growing concerns regarding the immediate physical safety of my son while in his mother's care. As part of the motion to suspend, hundreds of pages of medical records had been subpoenaed and secured from to different mental health providers. This also took many billable hours to read through and organize. When these records were referenced during the hearing, the defendant simply stated that “both providers were lying and embellishing records in order to get paid by Medicaid”. LeAnn’s response was to stare blankly into space and after an awkward silence, simply moved on in her questioning. An accusation of Medicare fraud under oath apparently did not warrant any additional questions of LeAnn. This was detrimental to my case and resulted in the motion being dismissed. To add to this, a contempt charge had been filed in response for me not providing my son for visitation (due to the concerns outlined in the motion). I was quickly found guilty and the judge ordered from the bench that I pay a $500 fine to the defendant along with a 1 year criminal suspended sentence. This is where things became much worse. 1/ I followed LeAnn’s instructions and had a check out to her within days of that judgement. LeAnn did nothing with this for months, until opposing counsel contacted her about it and their next step was going to be to file contempt charges where I would have ended up with a 30 day sentence in jail. 2/ LeAnn’s lack of attention to detail and rushing through her work became quite apparent. The judgement was drawn up by the defense and LeAnn had her opportunity to make edits or “red line” and send back to counsel for the defense. LeAnn overlooked that the draft judgement did not specifically state the 1 year sentence the judge ordered from the bench and was entered without a duration; this meant my criminal suspended sentence went from a judgement of 1 year to the 10+ years remaining until my son is 18. I asked repeatedly for clarification on the judgement and was not provided with an answer. There were at least 7 emails requesting this information, all while remaining polite and professional as I have throughout my representation with this firm. Finally, LeAnn called me (which was very unusual) the afternoon of 4/15. LeAnn attempted to downplay the judgement and even proceeded to advise me that “well it isn’t really criminal…” when it in fact it very much was. As a final “farewell”, LeAnn filed a new motion related to child support and received an objection back from opposing counsel. In hindsight this followed a pattern of Lancaster and St. Louis filing motions that simply went nowhere. After receiving a copy of the objection as the attorney of record representing me, the next day LeAnn emailed me to withdraw from the case entirely citing my “dissatisfaction”. To make matters worse, LeAnn failed to provide me with a copy of this objection, as she is required to do so as the attorney of record at the time of the objection. The truth of the matter is that LeAnn had dug herself a significant hole. Instead of stepping up and taking responsibility, she ran, leaving me to clean up her mess. When you look for legal counsel, look for someone who will be accountable for their work and that will stick with their client. The representation by Lancaster and St. Louis overall was sporadic, sluggish and made themselves necessary based on their own repeated missteps and oversights. If you are a current client, it may be time to take a closer look at what “work” is being completed. As a potential client, I would recommend you look elsewhere for legal representation as there are plenty of quality attorneys in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County

Cameron was terrible in my case! I ended up firing him and he had nine times to dismiss himself from my case and did not show up for any of the nine scheduled times to dismiss himself from the case. Cameron did finally show up but only after the statute of limitations was expired in my personal injury claim which prohibited my new attorney from being able to get the job done correctly. What a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Can Do for You

A medical malpractice lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been harmed due to the negligence or misconduct of healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or hospitals. These lawyers assist in cases where a healthcare provider deviates from the accepted standard of care, resulting in injury or death. Medical malpractice cases can involve misdiagnosis, surgical errors, medication mistakes, birth injuries, and other forms of medical negligence.

If you or a loved one has suffered harm due to improper medical treatment, a medical malpractice lawyer can help you understand your legal options, file a lawsuit, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

When Should I Hire a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?

Hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is essential if you’ve been seriously injured due to the negligence of a healthcare provider or institution. Situations where you should seek legal representation include:

  • Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis: If a doctor fails to diagnose or delays diagnosing a medical condition, leading to harm or progression of the illness.
  • Surgical errors: Harm resulting from surgical mistakes such as operating on the wrong site, leaving instruments inside the body, or performing unnecessary procedures.
  • Medication errors: Injuries caused by prescribing the wrong medication or dosage, or mistakes made by pharmacists in dispensing drugs.
  • Birth injuries: Injuries to a newborn due to medical negligence during labor and delivery, such as failing to perform a timely C-section or improper use of delivery instruments.
  • Anesthesia errors: Complications arising from improperly administered anesthesia, which can lead to serious injury or death.
  • Inadequate follow-up or aftercare: Suffering due to lack of proper monitoring or care after a medical procedure, leading to complications.
  • Hospital or nursing home negligence: Harm caused by the negligence of hospital staff, nurses, or administrators who failed to provide adequate care.

Medical malpractice cases are complex, and hiring a lawyer early can help ensure your rights are protected and your case is handled effectively.

What Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Do?

A medical malpractice lawyer provides various legal services to help injured patients hold negligent healthcare providers accountable. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing medical records and consulting with experts to determine if you have a viable claim based on the standard of care and harm suffered.
  • Filing a lawsuit: Initiating legal action by filing a complaint against the responsible parties in the appropriate court.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting medical records, expert testimonies, and other relevant evidence to build a strong case.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies: Working to secure a fair settlement that compensates you for your injuries without the need for a trial.
  • Litigating in court: Representing you during trial proceedings if a settlement cannot be reached, presenting evidence and arguing your case.
  • Calculating damages: Assessing the full extent of your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
  • Handling expert testimony: Coordinating with medical experts who can testify on how the standard of care was breached and how it led to your injuries.

How Are Medical Malpractice Lawyers Paid?

Most medical malpractice lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they recover compensation for you. Key aspects of this payment structure include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer's fee is typically between 25% and 40% of the settlement or award.
  • No upfront costs: You do not pay any legal fees unless the lawyer successfully recovers compensation on your behalf.
  • Case expenses: Costs for expert witnesses, medical record retrieval, and court fees may be deducted from your settlement or award in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Always discuss the fee arrangement during your initial consultation to understand your financial obligations.

How Much Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee model. General estimates include:

  • Contingency fee: Lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the total recovery amount.
  • Case expenses: Additional costs such as expert witness fees and court expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the case complexity.
