Chris is not only a very good attorney, he is also compassionate and caring. In my particular case, he reviewed all materials that were of value and did excellent outlining the facts in a clear and precise manner. Not only would I recommend him to others, I would hire him again if a situation arose where I needed help.

We hired Christopher J. Marston to advise and represent us after we discovered several construction defects and contract violations by our general contractor. As it turned out, I couldn’t have chosen a worse attorney than Mr. Marston. Mr. Marston claimed to have experience and success with defending clients like us and convinced us that we had a good case against our contractor. Unfortunately, we discovered too late that Mr. Marston was not competent to advise or to represent us with our claims against our contractor. Here is a brief summary of Mr. Marston’s performance: *Failed to ask relevant and pertinent questions of the defendant while deposing him and his expert witnesses and to use the collected deposition information effectively during the arbitration hearing. If used, the defendant and his expert witness’ deposition answers would have clearly proved that the defendant had lied under oath. He also failed to effectively use the supporting exhibits and expert witnesses’ testimonies to challenge or discredit the defendant’s false statements. *Flustered and confused during the arbitration hearing, Mr. Marston shuffled through his scribbled notes and four-inch thick exhibits trying to find what he needed next. On occasion, he would mistakenly refer to the defendant by my last name or forget where the exhibits were located in the binder. The arbitrator’s report shows that she never saw or heard our most incriminating, convincing exhibits and expert witnesses’ testimonies that would have easily exposed and discredited the defendant and his expert witnesses’ false statements. *During our final meeting, Mr. Marston ignored our request for an explanation of why he felt he did a good job of presenting our case when the arbitrator’s written report clearly stated otherwise. The arbitrator’s written decision indicated that she found the defendant and his attorney’s well-prepared and articulated defense to be more creditable than Mr. Marston’s. He concluded by saying that we should take some solace in knowing that the defendant did not get away completely because he had to pay his legal fees too. Mr. Marston took no responsibility for his poor preparation, performance, and advice. He appeared more concerned with being paid for his services than his losing our law suit. *By hiring and following Mr. Marston’s advice, we lost over $170K that includes legal fees and repair costs for the construction defects.

Contacted Rani by email and phone. Gave detailed information about my case. She indicated she was writing down the details, would put it in my file. I then set up consultation. Just before the appt, my father died. I told the office manager I would reschedule. I emailed Rani and told her I was ready to start the lawsuit. She obviously didn't remember me, or the info I had already given her. Made a big deal about how much she makes per hour and she was losing this by taking down my info. She then wanted a $10,000 retainer said and it would be $35,000 before anything would get done. She recommended I just sell the property. Regarding the lawsuit I had done nothing wrong, and the case was about neighbors violating easements and not following standard construction procedures. It was really straight forward, they were in violation of the law. Period. I had documentation, photos, videos, notes, and texts, easements, and proof. I had money too.

Rani is incredibly sensitive to her client's needs and communicates in a way that is very effective, efficient, and considerate. To someone who has never dealt with attorneys, Rani made the process of the lawsuit as pain free as possible- explaining every detail without hesitation or frustration. She is very good at negotiating and making sure that the wants and needs of her clients are addressed carefully and made well known by the opposing party. We were very lucky to have her work alongside us, as we went through a challenging time. I am impressed by her hard work, resilience, and dependability. She worked tirelessly to ensure that our family was taken care of and continued to advocate for us when we didn't know what to do anymore. Rani is a gem of an attorney and I am very lucky to know someone as dedicated to her work as she is. It is clear that she is very client centered and works to ensure that the relationship is based on trust and honesty.

We hired Rani after another lawyer mishandled our case. We felt we were in good hands from our inital conversation with Rani due to her confediant personality which put us at easy. She handled every question in a very professional and knowledgable manner. If there were outstanding issues she was prompt to get answers back to us quickly and what I really loved is she would clearly explain both sides of our issue so that we could make an imformed decision on how to proceed that we were comfortable with. I would highly recommend Rani.

As somebody who worked in top law firms, I can say that Michelle is not a very good lawyer. She is not thorough and we later found out that she has a reputation of not being thorough, which is the worst quality for a lawyer. Needs some work on communication. Took her a while to get back to us and some messages were not answered. She could also stand to be more aggressive instead of nice. I would not recommend.

I was laid off 38 days after filing a hostile-work-environment sexual harrasment complaint at my organization. I knew this complaint was a key factor in my layoff. I turned to Michelle, who had also instructed me in a course at Whitworth University, and she walked me through my options. Instead of going through a long lawsuit process, I was able to negotiate a larger severance pay. This enabled me to stand up for myself without damaging my professional reputation in a small community. This was a perfect solution for me and my family. If I have similar needs in the future, I'll absolutely use her again.

Jonathan Sprouffske, if he can call himself an attorney, does not even deserve the 1 star. DO NOT hire Amanda Williams as a GAL. The bias and incompetence demonstrated while assigned to my sons child custody case was staggering. She displayed clear signs of bias when she took his exs word as gospel and was completely wrong about her. The ex has now dumped the children and moved out of state. Williams drug her feet in regards to the timely submission of required court documents causing my son to have restricted contact with the children. This problem also caused him to pay an additional six months of child support costing him thousands. She ignored details from his daughter’s counselor that were vital to the case. She also forced my son into supervised visits which he had to pay for that gained her a profit. There’s more but I’ll cut it short for now. In conclusion just like the old saying “ the man who defends himself in court, has a fool for a client” the same is true for anyone who hires Amanda Williamson. IF YOU LOVE YOUR CHILDREN DO NOT HIRE THIS WOMAN! /———-/—————-/—————/————— Just got done reading the weak response from Williamson. In reply, I made it clear from the start that I wasn’t the client. Not appearing are any denials. I have a large folder of every document you and my son exchanged including the emails and texts that you absolutely ignored. Everything you did, or did not do is documented. You can brush it off by saying I wasn’t your client but that doesn’t change the incompetencies of you and your firm. I hope for the public’s sake you retire soon. Being part of the good old boy system does not relieve you of your obligations. Again-DO NOT HIRE THIS WOMAN! Apparently Williams is upset over someone telling the truth about their firm’s incompetence. I stand behind every statement made in the review and I challenge these clowns to a public discussion about their incompetence. I’ve said from the start that I wasn’t the client. You keep harping on that fact instead of focusing on the problem at hand which is your absolutely horrendous handling of my son’s case. Inappropriate? That’s the word that comes to mind when you call yourself an attorney.

Absolutely horrible to have to feel like you’re forcing someone to do their job and even more so to discover they are following every social media account of the other party, even their dog’s, but have you blocked and claim to have never been biased. I wish I had seen her reviews sooner. You know you’re at the bottom of the food chain when you have to have your own paralegal give you a good review to balance out your account!

My name is Lady Lata Patu. I wanted to say how much I appreciate the help and services that GLG has provided for my family & I. Dalynne Singleton is professional and efficient at what she does. We've ran into a lot of issues along the way of closing the estate of my mother, but overall, we have conquered. With the assistance of her paralegal, Cameron McCracken, he was very responsive and transparent with this entire process. When they say nothing good comes easy, that is so true. I would recommend Gourley law group to anyone who needing help with an estate or probate. Thank you Dalynne and Cameron, on behalf of the Patu family, we really appreciate your services. God bless.

TRASH COMPANY, STAY AWAY!!! After initial consultation everything looked great and I was ready to move forward. They said they would reach out with engagement letter. Took them three weeks to get back to me so I decided to read the reviews and man I was wrong. Apparently they work like a turtle very slow with nothing to show for. Just a BIG SCAM. After hearing from them 3 weeks later I told them I am not moving forward. Now 6 months after that email they send me an invoice for the consultation for $330 and expect me to pay even through they did not disclose the cost of the consultation or make it clear that there was a fee even. Won’t be paying it of course. If it takes them weeks to send a engagement letter for a customer moving forward imagine what it would look like them doing any work for you.

Robert Getz provided stellar representation in my case. From the first meeting where he outlined the law and along the way as he updated me on the status of my case and how the law and the facts were on my side. It was easy to see I had the best attorney in the case as the opposing attorney was not even in his league. His preparation of documents, legal strategies and the knowledge of the law and procedure made the other side look like amateurs. Locking in the best appellate attorney for me on the appeal was a very wise move as well. The judge in my case made it a point to affirm the quality representation Robert Getz provided. I highly recommend Robert Getz, Attorney at Law. Charmaine

He provided clear explanations of the formation of the LLC, offering us guidance and options along the way to fine tune it to meet our particular situation. He answered our myriad questions in a knowledgeable, skilled fashion, meeting with us both in person and via Zoom and emails as often as we needed. The end result is a functioning LLC that is formulated to meet our family’s needs and specifications as well as fulfill all the the legal requirements of a licensed corporation. Matt was referred to us by one of his associates, Richard Tizzano. Matt is not responsive by phone and extremely slow with completing the most basic tasks. He took several months to complete setting up an LLC. He met with the prospective members numerous times answering questions about both the LLC and the Special Needs Trust from which the assets would come. Subsequently, he took on the case of dissolving the SNT, in which only some of the beneficiaries were involved in the LLC. He never met with both of the co-executors of the SNT, and was conflicted in his actions by favoring the members of the LLC over the other beneficiaries. He never took meeting requests or returned phone calls from the co-executor who was not part of the LLC! It was a definite conflict of interest on his part. He made numerous errors in his calculations and capital gains tax implications. He definitely should not be advertising himself as a Real Estate attorney.

Allegedly, she sent out the demand for my case, but I am not sure where to because the defendant corporation later told me that they never received it. And Elena never bothered to follow up to make sure they received it. Later, when defendant did not respond to the demand, Elena told me that I have the option of suing in a small claims court. I brought a case is small claims, but the judge told me that defamation cases are not allowed in small claim court, and dismissed my case. I would think that a competent attorney would know proper venue criteria. Finally, Elena was really difficult to get a hold of throughout. I think she is incompetent as an attorney.

I am writing this only from a standpoint of helping people assess this attorney, rather than coming from point of any anger. The trial proceedings were recorded (due to zoom). I will state the facts and let the reader assess this attorney by themselves. The Paralegal is very detail oriented however I felt the attorney is not, though I had confidence till trial, by her positive talks. I had no DV allegations and had a good report from GAL. Simply, my ex-spouse wanted to take away my daughter from me. In prep for the documentation, I had more guidance from the paralegal than the attorney. During Mediation, the attorney steered me away from exploring an mutually agreeable solution with the other party by giving me confidence of having a strong case and don't need to bend. On the day of trial, which was virtual during covid times, she forgot to bring in the strong witnesses I had prepared. I had to reach out to remind her, but it was too late. Later the witnesses were not allowed. During the trial, the attorney failed to ask tough questions to my ex-spouse even though I was sending her messages to ask the relevant questions. Finally after the trial, the attorney said that the Judge did not seem to like her, giving as a reason for the lop sided result. She was not even able to explain why & how the finance were distributed. End Result: My ex-spouse was awarded more than 65% of my hard earned wealth and I ended up with just 15% of child custody. After the trial, I hardly got much help or directions from this attorney. I was literally left alone with an abysmal trial result. And later, the mother has simply managed to move the child away from me. A dismayed father from an abysmal framework of so called law and attorneys.

When I was told about a serious family situation of a friend of mine, I thought it best to contact David for his advise. Even though the situation was not his area of practice, he took time to give me some very sound advise and pointed me in the right direction. Should I ever have reason to retain a lawyer in his area of expertise, I would not hesitate to call David.

We were referred to Scott by a trusted friend to manage a stressful situation created by an unethical professional. He is so knowledgeable, comfortable and easy to be around and offers information and strategic options. He resolved our situation so quickly and was very precise with his prediction of outcome- explaining everything along the way. I highly recommend him!

I have owned a handful of small businesses over the past years and have used several attorney's over those years. Until, I hired Scott Kee. Scott has helped with a wide range of business issues from creating new business entities to the sale of my family business after 40+ years in business. Scott is able to boil down complex issues into understandable english and has always responded promptly. It's my pleasure to highly recommend Scott Kee to all my fellow business persons. Tracey

In my opinion this guy took my deposit and gave me a report that didn't address my needs, it looked like something that a freshman slapped together the night before it was due. Spent more time blaming my records and telling me how he was busy with another case than giving me answers. Very little expertise in my land rights issue in my opinion. Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Alan Souders, and the Souders Law Group, represented me in an extremely difficult civil suit. I will forever be astonished at their unwavering integrity and commitment to my case. They left no stone unturned in their thorough interviews and flawless preparation. When reading their documentation, I was struck by the beauty, economy and power of their arguments. Needless to say, Souders won the day and gave me back my life. I can’t possibly recommend Alan Souders and the Souders Law Group enough. The firm is genuinely ‘outcome’ driven and has the wherewithal to deliver the best possible results for their clients.

Sincerely one of a kind! It has been our experience that most attorneys are focused on the process and unable to hear the client but Mr. Powell listens. Don Powell is full of knowledge, wisdom and kindness. He is very wise and a tough opponent! Our case was complicated, and without justice; but Don never gave up and through his diligence, the truth prevailed! We would not have overcome the obstacles and succeeded without him. We highly recommend Don Powell!

Don was the best attorney I have had to date. I had my divorce in Spokane buy an attorney who lost the paperwork. The attorney I hired after that in Spokane was effective but rude. Once I moved here, right on schedule the ex was finding things to go to court over, since abusing in person was no longer an option. I was so fortunate to find Don who was very well respected by his piers and served on the board of regents and as a Judge at times. Don was effective, considerate and thorough. What a pleasure under such a stressful situation to have someone who was so competent. Thank you Don!

I brought a very serious systemic issue like most people who come to an Attorney for consultation. I spent an hour talking about the issue only to have my money taken at the end and was told it's a problem and nothing she can do even though its in her field of expertise. She had no problem taking my money $250. This is a common practice that I have notice with attorneys throughout the US and we as the people who pay money need to inform others who might fall as a victim to attorneys who conduct themselves in this manner. It should be a crime to take people money knowing that no service was rendered. I understand we all need to eat, but do not waste people time who are being robbed the the system. I am not disgruntle but concerned that this seems more like a scam and it is putting people lives in jeopardy especially when they have little strength to tell there story over and over again. I would rate one star, but she was very courteous when taking my money.

The basis for my case involved the responsibility for developing a nuclear quality program in accordance with federal regulations for a U.S. company and then assisting senior management with its implementation. The quality deployment effort required total commitment throughout the company. Following my unjustifiable termination, I was referred to Ms. Anderson by a person that had engaged her for a similar case. Ms. Anderson gained an understanding of the background in a very timely manner and set a clear approach for moving forward. Even at the early stages, it was clear she understood the rules and regulations in the nuclear industry. As my case evolved, she continuously kepted me informed and at appropriate times provided me with options. She was very good at keeping me focused and making sure the content level for supporting questions and answers was appropriate. Ms. Anderson's negotiating expertise became very apparent during the final stages of the case. Not only did I receive a meaningful settlement, but more importantly I felt that my voice had been heard.

Alene provided me with my options at each step in the case with enough information for me to weigh and feel relatively comfortable with my decisions (as comfortable as one can in these situations). She kept me informed and responded almost immediately to my phone calls and e-mails. We did not meet unnecessarily and in the meetings we had, Alene was well-prepared and focused. I was new to this type situation and asked many questions. I found her answers complete, helpful and, in the end, accurate. When the other party did not follow through as agreed (several times and once after we thought the case was settled), Alene communicated with them quickly and effectively. Finally, her fees were clearly explained and fairly applied. I did not go forth with a suit in court, but I can recommend Alene Anderson without reservation for securing a fair settlement.

What a Probate Lawyer Can Do for You

A probate lawyer assists with the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate. This often involves guiding executors (if a will exists) or beneficiaries (if no will exists) through the probate process to settle the estate according to the deceased’s wishes or applicable laws. Probate lawyers can help validate the will, distribute assets, resolve disputes among heirs, handle outstanding debts or taxes, and ensure the estate is legally and efficiently administered.

Whether you’re an executor of an estate or an heir facing probate proceedings, a probate lawyer can help you navigate the often-complex legal process to ensure the estate is settled correctly.

When Should I Hire a Probate Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a probate lawyer when you are responsible for managing the estate of a deceased individual, especially in the following situations:

  • The estate has substantial assets: If the estate includes significant assets like real estate, investments, or business interests, legal assistance is often necessary to handle the distribution properly.
  • The will is being contested: If there are disputes among heirs regarding the validity of the will or the division of assets, a probate lawyer can help resolve the conflict.
  • The estate includes complex or unclear provisions: If the will contains complicated instructions or there are no clear beneficiaries, a lawyer can ensure that the estate is administered according to legal requirements.
  • There is no will (intestate estate): When a person dies without a will, the estate is subject to intestacy laws, which determine how assets are distributed. A probate lawyer can help navigate this process.
  • Debt or tax issues exist: If the estate owes significant debts or is subject to estate taxes, a probate lawyer can help ensure debts are paid appropriately and taxes are minimized.
  • Probate disputes: If family members or other parties are disputing the distribution of assets or challenging the executor's actions, legal representation is crucial to defending your rights and ensuring the estate is handled properly.

Hiring a probate lawyer early in the process can help avoid costly mistakes and ensure the estate is settled efficiently.

What Does a Probate Lawyer Do?

A probate lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help manage and settle an estate. Their tasks can include:

  • Validating the will: Filing the will with the probate court and ensuring its legal validity.
  • Guiding executors or administrators: Advising the person responsible for managing the estate on their duties, including inventorying assets, notifying creditors, and paying debts.
  • Filing necessary paperwork: Preparing and submitting the legal documents required to initiate and complete the probate process.
  • Resolving disputes: Mediating or litigating disputes among heirs or between beneficiaries and executors, including challenges to the will or disagreements over asset distribution.
  • Handling debt and tax matters: Ensuring that outstanding debts, taxes, and estate taxes are properly calculated and paid from the estate’s assets.
  • Distributing assets: Ensuring that assets are distributed to the beneficiaries according to the will or intestacy laws, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Closing the estate: Completing the final steps of the probate process, including filing a final accounting with the court and formally closing the estate.

How Are Probate Lawyers Paid?

Probate lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Most probate lawyers charge by the hour, with rates depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the estate. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Flat fee: For simple estates or straightforward probate tasks, some lawyers may charge a flat fee that covers all of the necessary legal work.
  • Percentage of the estate: In some states, probate lawyers are allowed to charge a percentage of the estate's value as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 2% to 5%, depending on the size of the estate and state regulations.
  • Retainer fee: Some lawyers may require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the probate process progresses.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to understand how you will be charged and avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Probate Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a probate lawyer depends on several factors, including the complexity of the estate, the type of legal issues involved, and the lawyer’s fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estates: For estates with straightforward assets and no disputes, probate legal fees can range from $2,500 to $10,000, depending on the lawyer's fees and the state's probate laws.
  • Complex estates: For larger or more complicated estates with multiple properties, business interests, or disputes, probate costs can exceed $10,000 and may reach $20,000 or more.
  • Hourly rates: If charged by the hour, expect rates between $150 and $500, depending on the lawyer’s expertise and geographic location.
  • Percentage fees: In some cases, a probate lawyer may charge 2% to 5% of the estate’s value, particularly for larger estates or those involving complex legal matters.

Always ask for a clear estimate of fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost of probate representation.

Top Questions to Ask a Probate Lawyer

Before hiring a probate lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re hiring someone qualified to handle your estate needs. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with probate cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience with estates of similar complexity, especially if disputes or high-value assets are involved.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a percentage of the estate, and request a cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely timeline for my probate case?
While it’s hard to predict exactly, an experienced lawyer can give you a general idea of how long the probate process may take based on the specifics of your estate.
  4. What steps will you take to manage and distribute the estate?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to handling debts, taxes, and asset distribution.
  5. Will you be handling my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your probate case.
  6. What are potential challenges we may face?
A good lawyer will be able to anticipate possible issues, such as will contests or creditor claims, and explain how they would handle them.

How to Check the Credibility of a Probate Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable probate lawyer, follow these steps to check their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar status: Check with your state’s bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary action.
  • Look for probate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in probate law and have experience handling estates of similar complexity.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for online reviews on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell to see what past clients have said about the lawyer’s probate experience.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their professionalism and expertise in handling probate matters.
  • Look for membership in professional organizations: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA) or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) can indicate a lawyer's commitment to estate and probate law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a probate lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A copy of the will or trust (if applicable): Bring any estate planning documents left by the deceased, including wills, trusts, or powers of attorney.
  • List of assets and debts: Prepare a detailed list of the deceased’s assets (e.g., real estate, bank accounts, investments) and outstanding debts (e.g., loans, mortgages, credit cards).
  • Death certificate: Bring a certified copy of the deceased person’s death certificate.
  • Contact information for heirs and beneficiaries: Have a list of all individuals or entities named in the will or who are entitled to inherit under intestacy laws.
  • Questions about the probate process: Write down any questions you have about the process, costs, and potential issues you might face.
  • Relevant financial records: If available, bring any relevant financial documents, such as bank statements, property deeds, and tax returns.

By coming prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and allow the lawyer to provide the best advice for your situation.
