I just want to say James Latimer and the whole Ladimir law. Firm was great awesome from start to finish except for Sergio Monteon, who was very rude condescending and answered questions in tone not very customer service oriented, but I’d have to say Mr. Latimer and the rest of the team is awesome not only did he achieve in winning my case with Workmen’s Comp., but also went above and beyond with applying me for subsequent injuries, benefits trust fund, and also won my case at 100% disabled. God bless you James God bless your entire team.

I have been a client for a few years since the onset of my wc injury. Throughout my entire time being a client I have experienced good customer service from both staff and attorneys. However, their Office Manager Monroe, is very rude and unprofessional. I find this to be so disappointing that he interacts with clients is this tone. It is also unfortunate because he is a representative of the firm.

Leo took the time to answer all my questions every time I called or emailed him within a few hours if not the very the next day. He and his staff seem devoted to the smallest detail of my case. Sometimes I called about things that I didn't understand that would have been more obvious to me had I been through this before. He and his staff always took the time to explain things to me and to make sure that some of my fears could be resolved. I admit that I had times of high anxiety but, the ladies there always took the time to be compassionate, to get on my level, to explain things in a way that made me feel less distressed about my circumstances. The compassion that they shared with me in my case taught me to allow them to do their job; and by the way, my settlement ended being three times greater than what several other attorneys told me my case was worth. Mine was a personal injury case. The job that Mr. Akulian and his staff did was far and away greater than any expectation that I may have come to the table with. Without hesitation I would recommend them above and beyond all others. Very truthfully, Alain

Mr. Silver has used his 40 years experience to successfully see me through the past 14 years of a most difficult 30-year uncontested Worker's Compensation case due to an industrial injury that occurred in 1984 His patient support, knowledge of the law, and referrals to the best physicians have been invaluable to me in getting proper medical care for these past 14 years and in reaching a final settlement last week, which will yield me per month almost what I was offered 20 years ago as a final compromise and release settlement lump sum, and which I am now so glad that I declined because of Mr. Silver's recent display of excellent settlement and negotiation skills. Mr. Silver is extremely competent, knows the "ins and outs" of Work Comp, and more importantly who are the best physicians to properly treat the different medical conditions of the patient. In my case, he referred me to a brilliant physician, David S. Silver, who was at the time Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA, and Chief of Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Silver's reports greatly impacted my case positively, and because of Dr. Silver I was able to continue Upper Cervical care, begin Home Health care, and was treated for many secondary conditions that were a result of my industrial injury. Because of his responsible effective reports, and because of Mr. Silver's legal expertise, I will remain "harmless" from all expense incurred since 2010 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, and Medicare liens - even for stage 3 colon cancer (including 4 surgeries and about a year of chemotherapy and radiation) because he proved they were secondary to my industrial injury because of the delays in authorization - a difficult negotiation point, indeed. I really appreciate what Mr. Silver has done for me, first trying to get my pension in 2002, and now in this final settlement. In our meeting last week I realized this man REALLY CARES. He did a brilliant job in representing me and actually got a settlement which I could not have ever imagined. I am most grateful to him and his Assistant for their kindness, professionalism, responsiveness to my particular needs and requests, and representation in a most difficult, complicated and unique case. I am also most appreciative that in spite of the fact that his 2002 Permanent Disability Award of $430,000 was revoked on appeal and he didn't get one red cent for all his work, he said to me, " I think I still can get you more medical care." Mr. Silver procured a final settlement that I could finally accept, that will protect me to the end of life, afford me 100% Medical Coverage while allowing me some peace of mind as I approach retirement age.. I applaud Mr. Silver and his Assistant, Yvette Gregory, who always was responsive to my requests for copies of documents and passed on messages promptly. His front office staff is amicable and helpful. Many times I would call to ask them if they received a fax, and they would personally print it out and take it to Mr. Silver, giving me an assurance that they were really fighting for me. Mr. Silver, himself, was responsive to my concerns, represented me properly and effectively, and protected me from Bad Debt and Credit Collection on more than one occasion. His Settlement Negotiations were thoughtful, productive, and I really appreciated the fact that although by the end of the several years negotiation process the work he expended and the results he achieved would have normally rendered him a $90,000 fee, he said, "I will only charge the $60,000 that we spoke about because that made it possible for the defense to accept" the total Final settlement sum. This man worked for 14 years on my behalf without pay trying to protect me from creditors, bad debt, and bad defense doctor reports, while trying to get me maximum health benefits and now an award that I can retire on. I recommend him without hesitation and with deep gratitude for what he has achieved this past week.

I had a worker's comp case in the 1983, after about 4 years on the job, public employee, it took about 3 years to settle during which time my employer tried to get rid of me. I was stressed and felt Larry wasn't givin me the attention I 'deserved"..... in the end, my case was settled, I've retired from that job 5 years ago. I have referred many of my co-workers and others to this firm, especially to Larry. My experience was great.

After I filed my Work Comp claim, my employer's insurance company's adjustor accused me of fraud without any evidence, apparently to avoid paying compensation for my injury (which was severe enough that I was not able to drive, and just trying to get out of bed had me in tears). I was outraged and that's when I decided to get legal assistance. Mr. Paul J. Lee helped me with my Work Comp case which I had thought was impossible to win. Through him I was able to receive all the compensation that my case deserved--benefits that I would definitely not have received otherwise because of how intimidating and convoluted the system can be to ordinary people. I've had experiences with lawyers in the past that have, unfortunately, tarnished the legal profession in my view. These guys get on your case just for the profit, and they'll take advantage of you if they can get away with it. Mr. Paul Lee is not that kind of person. He is highly competent and ethical. He is a true professional with character, integrity and compassion. He looks after your interest--you can rest assured that he'll fight to win your case.

Just know that Ms. Rutkowski does not screen the defense attorney's choice of "doctors," which, in my case, meant the I was stuck with doctors who deny your symptoms in order to stay in good graces with the defense attorney so that they can stay in practice. I found several "inaccuracies" in the defense attorney's doctors who evaluated me, and Ms. Rutkowski would tell me I was fabricating those inaccuracies--until I had to do the work to go through long lists of email and documents to find proof. Once I would present her with proof, she would just throw out that part of my case. Several times throughout my case she threatened to no longer represent me--after having gone through a long journey of being told I was faking my symptoms (because she's got medical background and has some intense attachment to the perfection of the medical industry, meaning I had to be wrong and they had to be right). I had to grovel in order for her not to abandon my case, and the power differential and her holding that over me just broke me down. I don't think I'm ever going to recover from the experience of having her represent my case. In the end, I felt forced to sign off and ended up having to use my own insurance for continued medical coverage related to what she kept calling my "fabricated" injuries. Overall, an absolute nightmare.

Hollie and her staff were always very PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGABLE, and HELPFUL throughout the two years it took to close my very difficult case.. Hollie was very PERSISTENT and TIMELY in dealing with a very obnoxious opposing attorney. She and her staff were very RESPONSIVE to my inquiries and very PATIENT with my many questions. Hollie proved she really CARED when she chose to spend half a day in court just to ensure my physical therapist got paid. The below review by Michael dated 3/5/18 sure doesn't sound anything like the Beth Anne Williams who has represented me for years. I too have had a long drawn out case having had a career that was very physically demanding and dangerous. As I result, I've required seven surgeries and extensive recovery periods over the years. Beth has always had my best interest at heart and has steered me in the right direction many times for which I'm thankful. There was a time when I just wanted to get it all over and done. Thankfully Beth convinced me to pursue continued recourse and treatment which has impacted my well being greatly. Her council, communication, attention to detail and issues certainly made this experience much easier and ultimately more beneficial to me. My case has finally wrapped up and I couldn't be happier with her results. Beth went above and beyond during the final stretch, and I am very thankful to have her as my attorney.

I was handed off to Steve from the lawyer I hired after being injured at work. That was the best thing that could possibly happen for my case. After 14 years he is still by my side whenever I am facing obstacles for my treatments. He does so without any complaints or delays. I feel bad when I have to ask for assistance so long after the compensation portion was settled and left with open medical, but he takes my call every time!!! Case in point, I recently have been fighting for treatments that I have gotten for eight years and suddenly were being denied. One call took care of all of that!!! I'm currently on my tenth year of my case. Which I think is way to long. All I ever hear from Mr wright is there's nothing we can do. Some information I should be told I'm not only until I happen to ask . example he talked to the insurance company about the medicare set aside that has been going on three yes. When I asked about it he told me he talked to them a month ago and I only found that out because I asked what was happening with it. He had me mixed up with a different client. My main concern is I don't have any confidence in him doing what he should be just goes along with whatever the insurance carrier says there is no fight or ideas that come from him to get me the proper representation I feel I should be getting.

Mr. Fong is a good attorney: experienced, takes time for you, sends you information promptly, etc. However, one suggestion: that his office call or send an email a day or two just before a hearing, because sometimes the clients get the hearing date wrong. As a busy and distressed client w/ painful injury, working full time, and elderly parents to look after, it would have been very helpful. Most other firms, regardless of practice type, leave a quick message to make sure you have the right date if you need to appear at a hearing. The office staff gives off a slightly "beleaguered" vibe - which is not right - they can do a tiny bit of extra work to make sure clients have the right hearing date. Given the fees attorneys are paid, they and their staff should provide the best possible customer service. Outside of that small suggestion, Mr. Fong is a good attorney, and I would definitely recommend him.

This review is strictly to point out how this law firm handles employees. LCW is fully aware that as of March 2020 that there is a pandemic going around in the world and yet they find it completely okay with having employees who are heath compromised come into work in the Los Angeles office, although the CDC and WHO have warned against it. All other LCW offices have closed during this time but the LA office finds money to be more important that the health and safety of ALL it’s employees so only a select few are REQUIRED to come into the office, while others (including a majority of the attorneys) get to work from home. This is bad employer practice and shows just how inhuman this firm is. Further more, most schools, courts and departments that LCW works with are closed as well so what work is so important that you as an employer are willing to risk people’s health for it instead of just postponing the deadline like the rest of the world is having to do? If this is how they treat employees, I can only imagine how they treat clients.

Having been injured at work and being let go after working there for 20 years because I filed for Workers Comp (WC) were the darkest points of my working career. In my experience, filing for WC was a big discouragement given that I’ve learned big corp. usually would fire injured workers to avoid paying for the medical/financial benefits that are due to them. They would also strip you of the retirement benefits that you’ve worked for over the years. Unfortunately, all these things happened to me. Thank God for Super Lawyer Lisa Ivancich and her great staff for bringing justice to my case. I’m forever grateful for her tenacity, knowledge, and hard work in representing and settling my case favorably. While filing for WC/SIBTF took years to settle, Lisa and her staff were always there for me. Lisa is not only a Super Lawyer, she is also a wonderful person who listens and understands where I was coming from. She would not give you high hopes, but she and her staff gave their best in getting the medical/financial benefits that I truly deserved. Thank you, Lisa and staff for everything. I really appreciate your hard work, empathy, and caring over the years. I will miss you and your staff. If you need a competent and great lawyer, I highly recommend Lisa and staff and the Ivancich & Costis lawfirm.

I've never heard of a law firm that give anyone the care that was given to me by them. Follow his advice and your case will get a great outcome. I couldn't be more satisfied and would recommend him to anyone needing DBA assistance.

Mike helped me out several years ago with an incident that just kept going wrong for me. I did not have to appear in court , and he got everything dropped criminally against me. He didn’t waste time , didn’t run up a big bill , he has a clear idea of how it was going to go and what it would cost and he was spit on , hope I don’t need him again , but if anything goes sideways in my life he’s my first call.

This guy is trash. Speaks of doing very nice gestures for you and as soon as he tells you all you want to hear to get you to sign a plea deal that the Public Defender could’ve gotten you, he is no longer your lawyer. And not before taking your money too. Save your money and go with someone else or a public defender. Paid a lot of money for nothing. Lesson learned. Minorities stay away from this guy. Won’t even send me back my evidence.

What a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer Can Do for You

A workers’ compensation lawyer specializes in helping employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job to receive the benefits they are entitled to under workers' compensation laws. These lawyers represent injured workers in claims for medical benefits, wage replacement, and other compensation related to workplace injuries or illnesses. They also help when claims are denied, benefits are delayed, or disputes arise with the employer or the insurance company.

Whether you've been injured on the job, developed an occupational illness, or are dealing with a denied workers' compensation claim, a workers’ compensation lawyer can help you navigate the claims process and ensure you receive the full benefits you deserve.

When Should I Hire a Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a workers' compensation lawyer in several situations, especially when complications arise during the claims process or when your rights as an injured worker are being challenged. Some common reasons to hire a workers' compensation lawyer include:

  • Claim denial: If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, a lawyer can help you appeal the decision and represent you in hearings or litigation.
  • Inadequate benefits: If the insurance company offers you a settlement that doesn’t cover your medical expenses, lost wages, or other damages, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf for a fair amount.
  • Delay in receiving benefits: If your benefits are being delayed, a lawyer can help expedite the process to ensure you receive timely compensation.
  • Permanent disability: If your injury leads to permanent disability (partial or total), a lawyer can help you navigate the more complex process of securing long-term benefits.
  • Retaliation by employer: If your employer retaliates against you for filing a workers' compensation claim (e.g., by firing or demoting you), a lawyer can protect your rights and pursue legal action.
  • Third-party liability: If a third party (e.g., a contractor or equipment manufacturer) was responsible for your injury, a lawyer can help you pursue additional compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Pre-existing conditions: If your employer or the insurance company claims that your injury is related to a pre-existing condition, a lawyer can help you present evidence showing that the injury was work-related.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can prevent delays, avoid mistakes, and ensure you receive all the benefits you’re entitled to under workers' compensation law.

What Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Do?

A workers' compensation lawyer provides a range of legal services to injured workers, ensuring that they receive the benefits they deserve. Their tasks often include:

  • Filing claims: Helping injured workers prepare and file their workers' compensation claims to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Appealing denied claims: Representing workers whose claims have been denied and guiding them through the appeals process, including hearings and court appearances.
  • Negotiating settlements: Negotiating with insurance companies to secure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
  • Handling disputes: Resolving disputes between the injured worker, the employer, and the insurance company regarding the amount of compensation or the nature of the injury.
  • Coordinating medical evidence: Gathering and presenting medical records, expert testimony, and other evidence to support the workers' compensation claim.
  • Advocating for benefits: Ensuring that injured workers receive all the benefits they’re entitled to, including temporary or permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation, and medical treatment.
  • Filing third-party lawsuits: In cases where a third party is responsible for the injury, a workers' compensation lawyer may also pursue a personal injury lawsuit to recover additional damages.

How Are Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Paid?

Workers' compensation lawyers typically charge a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover benefits for you. This fee is usually a percentage of the benefits awarded, and the specific percentage is often regulated by state law. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer's fee is typically between 15% and 25% of the total benefits awarded to you. You don’t have to pay any upfront legal fees, and the lawyer’s fee comes out of the settlement or benefit award.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer doesn’t recover any benefits for you, you generally don’t have to pay for their services.
  • State regulations on fees: Many states cap the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge, and some states require the fee to be approved by the workers' compensation board or judge.

Be sure to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a workers' compensation lawyer typically depends on the contingency fee arrangement, meaning the lawyer’s fee will be a percentage of the benefits you receive. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: Most workers' compensation lawyers charge between 15% and 25% of the total settlement or benefits awarded. For example, if you receive $50,000 in benefits, the lawyer’s fee would range from $7,500 to $12,500.
  • State regulations: Some states limit the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge. In these cases, the fee is usually capped, often at 20% to 25%, depending on state law.
  • Additional costs: Some lawyers may charge for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, medical records retrieval, and expert witness testimony, though these costs are typically deducted from the settlement after the case is won.

You should always ask for a clear explanation of fees and potential additional costs during your consultation so you understand the financial arrangement.

Top Questions to Ask a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Before hiring a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with workers' compensation cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your injury is severe or the case involves disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and whether there are any additional costs you need to be aware of.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including the potential challenges and outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience dealing with cases involving similar injuries or disputes, such as denied claims or permanent disability.
  5. How long will the process take?
While it’s difficult to predict an exact timeline, the lawyer should be able to provide a general estimate based on their experience with similar cases.
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable workers' compensation lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for workers' compensation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in workers' compensation law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience in workers' compensation cases.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG) or local bar association committees on workers' compensation can indicate the lawyer’s commitment to this area of law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Accident report or incident documentation: Bring any documentation related to your workplace injury or illness, including accident reports or notifications to your employer.
  • Medical records: Provide copies of medical records, including treatment notes, doctor’s reports, and any information related to your injury or condition.
  • Employer correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or forms related to your claim from your employer or the workers' compensation insurance company.
  • Wage and benefits information: Provide information on your wages, benefits, and any lost income due to the injury.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the process, costs, and what to expect moving forward.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a timeline of the incident, your injury, and any medical treatment or communication with your employer and the insurance company.

Being well-prepared for your consultation will allow the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide you with the best possible legal advice.
