Eric was chosen to represent us in a lawsuit that was filed regarding an injury on a former property that we sold. The plaintiffs Attorney's were known to be very successful at representing individuals for this type of case. From the day that we were introduced to Eric he made us feel comfortable and took much of our worry away, I should say, "as much as he could when your'e being sued." We were defendants and the new home owner was the other defendant and had their own councel. Once Jury selection and the cross examination began it was clear that the plaintiffs attorney didn't want my attorney in the courtroom. He was articulate and fearless, played very well with the co defendant Attorney and had a clear path in his mind to victory. The co defendants Attorney also did very well but Eric picked up the ball where he left off in cross examination and made the facts very transparent. After only 2 days in a 5 day trial, the plaintiffs attorney's dismiss the case against us. Im sure there were many reasons for that decision but I truly believe that their motivation was to get Eric Schilling out of there before he destroyed the credibility of their plaintiff and witnesses. Thank you Eric for your professionalism and a superb job representing us in this case. You are Top Notch! The Martin's

She explained the legal process in layman’s terms, was honest, upfront and most importantly, she is highly experienced and very professional. Communication was clear and concise. When I had questions (trust me, I had a lot) she was readily available. Jennifer always kept me informed and guided me throughout the entire process. I reside in Virginia. I sought an attorney to help me change the ownership of a deed to property that I own in South Carolina. Via email, I requested a quote from six South Carolina attorneys who practiced real estate law. My experience follows. Of six attorneys, two attorneys responded. Gary A Pickren (with Blair | Cato | Pickren | Casterline, LLC) was the first to respond. I researched his firm and read his profile. I liked what I read. He quoted $200.00 to complete the work and said if I provided the current deed, he’d subtract $50.00. I provided all he requested. Gary determined what I wanted and secured my business. His associates Brandon J Gregg, an associate attorney and Chris Kinon, a law clerk afterward worked with me to derive the product. They promptly answered my questions and quickly delivered the product. I found them to be a down to earth group with to work and to be professionals at preparing the product. On that note, the product looked good, so good that I had thoughts of framing it. As for their service (deed preparation and recordation), their performance was outstanding. As for their product (a deed and affidavit), the quality was excellent especially for the price. Given my experience with them, I highly recommend Gary A Pickren and his firm, “Blair | Cato | Pickren | Casterline, LLC”.

I got caught in a pinch with changes to the State liquor laws that only gave me 12 days to get my application in before the new law went into effect. My business attorney recomended Tanner as he wouldnt have the time to get up to speed on all of the complexities of my situation and the liquor laws. This was probably the best advise he has ever given me. Tanner was able to efficently guide me through the application and licensing process as well as assist the DABC with some legal interpretations of the law that were pertenant in my case. I would not have been granted my license without her! Mark. L

A couple of years ago I got into a car accident. I have permanent neck damage and severe headaches from the accident. I had several attorneys try to resolve our case, but it just lingered on. Patrick got my file and was able to settle quickly so I can get treatment for my neck injuries. I’m so grateful for an attorney who really cares.

I thoroughly enjoy working with Lisa. She's highly intelligent and creatively finds ways to resolve cases. She keeps her cleints well informed and bills at minimal levels.. I would recommend Lisa's services to anyone with problems in the foreclosure/BKR litigation areas.. She is very wise in the areas that she practices most, and in those areas that she doesn't have much experience, she knows how to get the information needed to assist with resolving any case..

My experience being Esayas’s client so far has been one that’s put me at ease and confidence. He’s a good listener and provides many resources. Very dedicated to his work and will do everything to fulfill obligations and prepare his clients. I’ve felt comfortable about sharing my story while I seek his guidance with immigration. I believe he has the ability to build trust with clients that also made me feel encouraged and well prepared for my case (which was a success). Esayas is an advocate for his clients, not just in their cases, but also in the overall situation and reality that his clients are facing. He’s driven by purpose, hence takes all relevant information to speak for his clients truth. All the way, I felt super supported and he’s an effective communicator which made everything easy for me. Again, I thank him for his dedication and effective guidance.

I'm extremely grateful for the professional team at the Murphy Law Firm. Attorney Brian Murphy got me the money I needed to pay all my medical bills and money for pain and suffering after a car accident. Dealing with injuries, bills, doctors' appointments and insurance companies is all really difficult! I didn't want to add another layer of difficulty to my case by hiring a law firm that made things tougher rather than easier. Fortunately, everyone at the Murphy Law Firm was caring and compassionate and worked hard to get me the settlement I was entitled to. My case involved three insurance companies, numerous medical care providers and many others. The Murphy Law Firm and attorney Brian Murphy went the extra mile to make sure I understood what was going on with all the various aspects of my case, what came next and what my options were. Brian Murphy is a compassionate and excellent attorney who's easy to deal with, kind, reliable and extremely competent. He's the type of tenacious attorney you want on your side when you're dealing with insurance companies and their lawyers. I would highly recommend you consider hiring Brian Murphy and his team.

I hired Attorney Allison Belanger to help me in a very difficult employment dispute. I could not have been more pleased with her advocacy of my legal position. She promptly responded to all of my inquiries, and the quality of her legal expertise in resolving my case, short of in court litigation, resulted in a settlement in my best interests, while preserving my legal rights in the event of a breach. Shortly thereafter, I sought her assistance in navigating the Mass. Unemployment Insurance claim process and was grateful for her prompt resolutions of the myriad issues that presented in receiving regular UI benefits. I do not hesitate to recommend Atty. Belanger. Not only is she smart, she is also kind and very easy to work with in stressful situations.

I was hurt in a car accident and needed a personal injury lawyer in Miami to represent me. Gregg Pessin exceeded my expectations as an injury attorney. He helped me get medical treatment and worked very hard on getting me the money I deserved from the insurance company. In the end, I actually received more money than I expected and my medical bills were covered. I would recommend Gregg Pessin for anyone in the Miami area needing a personal injury attorney.

Mr. Young handled my case from start to finish with complete professionalism. He was very personable, and kept me completely informed of the status of his objective, which was to reach an amicable settlement of my case. I had originally hired another firm to represent me; however, after almost a year of little to no communication or advancement in my case, I decided to hire Mr. Young’s firm to take over. Within a very short time Mr. Young negotiated a settlement that was well beyond what I ever expected. I was extremely pleased with the handling of my case by Mr. Young and his staff, and I know I made the right decision to transfer my case to his firm.

Injured at work and found out insurance isn't there just to help. I was being cut off on my much needed services. I learned insurance is all about cutting you off as soon as they can do it and not providing you the careand services that you are entitled to. Mr Cullinan overcame the obstacles of my case and reached a just settlement with any physical care necessary related to injury for the rest of my life. I am eternally greatfull to Mr.Cullinan and his skills in handling the situations thrown at him. I thought at one point it was over for me and he very skillfully battled back and won the case. I could also say William Cullinan is a patient, caring,, skillful and hardworking attorney.

I have yet to meet him in person until later this week but just knowing over the phone he was the lawyer for me. I asked several questions on avvo and he responded to me many times. i was stuck as a pedestrian by a truck and do not have car insurance or drive and suffered some damages that could result to surgery. He walked me through the traffic/criminal case I have tomorrow. He gave me more info in the amount of time i spoke with him in comparison to the lawyer i was referred to 2 weeks ago who only cared about my lifestyle and degrees. He was up front and honest, and most of all wanted to see me in person and very concerned about my injuries unlike some of the other lawyers. Just by the questions answered over interview on the phone i feel very comfortable with him. He knows the NJ laws and offered to set me up with pliga which i knew nothing about until i was being denied at drs and labs. Now I am confined to be bed due to the amount of pain i am in after seeking treatment outside the area who proved i was injured due to accident. looking forward to sitting down and talking about my case who he seems to be interested in. After speaking with and dealing with numerous lawyers who are all about money and jumping on my case popjoy seems to be knowledge and sympathetic unlike the one i was dealing with for 2 weeks who made my situation much worse., popjoy was more concerned about my health. Glad he found me answering each question i posted. Cant wait to see him in person and provided the evidence and hear where this takes me. Much calmer after him telling me what to do during court tomorrow, especially after my defense lawyer bailed, which is ok as well..

First let us thank Matthew for the work and professionalism he provided to us through our case. Additionally we came to experience Matthew in a personal way, he is passionate, professional and persistent. There was never a time in our case that he did not respond to our calls and emails with efficiency and timely updates. Matthew was very thorough and simplistic in how he walk us through the terminology and nuisances of our case. He did not provide us with a false hope, but constantly assured us he was working to meet our needs and in the benefit of our reuest. If he thought that a strategy was not wise he would suggest another means to accomplish our goal. Not only is Matthew an attorney but a true person at heart with character, ethics and morality. If you are looking for a exuberant, informed and passionate attorney, Matthew is the person you want on your side. Thank you again Matthew for your counsel and may your practice succeed in every way.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
