I contacted Mr. Dunlap in 2011 about a Land Contract deal that was going bad and my very first conversation he was ready to fight for me and when you are being taken advantage of and are feeling lost this is the kind of attorney you need instead of speaking with a attorney that drags and try to find out if you did something wrong he was on my side immediately and I have used his services ever since and has not lost yet! No one will take advantage of you with Mr. Dunlap.

We came to Scott with a multinational financial litigation defense matter. Scott's team was successful. All the other lawyers we interviewed, stated we should settle the matter for in excess of $25,000,000. In the end, the matter was resolved by Scott for less than $5,000,000. Our public stockholders were amazed, as was I. We will continue to use Scott and his team as our trusted lawyers, in this crazy world of litigation.

You know that feeling when life has you down, just another example of Murphy's Law? Well, I was there. Stuck in a mess with my insurance company, after I was on my motorcycle and struck by an uninsured driver. Confined in the hospital, lost in paperwork, and overwhelmed by the whole situation. I felt like I was falling into the void, quickly being forgotten. But then, I had a family member call Law Tigers and was connected to Patrick DiBenedetto, Attorney at Metier Law Firm, and his amazing legal team. These are down to earth people, who ride their own motorcycles, and spoke my language. He listened to my story, the whole thing, like it was the most important tale he ever heard. He didn't talk down to me, no fancy words or legal mumbo jumbo. He straight-up explained what was going on, what my rights were, and what he could do to help. And let me tell you, this guy could fight! He was like a bulldog with a bone!  The letters, the phone calls, the arbitrations, the endless negotiations - everything he did on my behalf gave me the deepest sense of relief because I knew I had a compassionate and extremely competent professional doing the hard work for me!  I had the easy job - I just had to heal 14 broken bones and 5 surgeries! Because of Patrick DiBenedetto, his team, the Metier Law Firm, and Law Tigers, I received the full compensation I was legally entitled to. I received a settlement, but most importantly I received peace of mind so I could focus on healing without being distracted by medical bills and insurance - I knew Patrick and his team had it handled and that makes Patrick worth his weight in gold. Patrick is permanently on my Christrmas Card list and I will be calling him for ANY legal needs in the future.  Patrick DiBenedetto is a motorcycle rider himself and his natural empathy with his clients clearly impacts the quality of his relationship with his clients, and significantly intensifies the ferocity in which he fights for their compensation.   It is my true hope that no one reading this will ever be in need of a motorcycle attorney; however, if they are, Patrick DiBenedetto has earned my complete trust, deepest respect and I earnestly suggest calling his office.

Mr. Taylor has represented a few different business entities I own over the past 10 years. Recently, he helped my company resolve an issue with a subcontractor who tried to bypass my company and go to my client directly. He helped us successfully resolve the issue by negotiating a 100% settlement with the subcontractor, and additionally ensuring we would not be put in this situation again.

I have known Steve for over twenty years. He WILL NOT 'pull a fast one' against a foe AND he WILL NOT allow them to 'pull a fast one' against his client. He KNOWS the ropes and tricks. I believe EVERY ATTORNEY AND JUDGE should go by the same ethics as Steve. I was our TOP federal agent and in charge of Internal Affairs for our intelligence community when everything was under the TOP SECRET "MAJ COM". I am now retired. Every time I have had occasion to do business with Steve or send him a client; IT HAS BEEN A GREAT PLEASURE! I have sent him business and the people I sent were very glad I did it! I am now in ministry and I train ministers, build ministries, bring ministries and people together, and all that great stuff. I tell people I quit working for those who thought they were God and now I work for the one who KNOWS HE IS GOD! I LOVE IT TOO! Noel Benoist D. 2 people who politely introduced themselves as the "New owners" of the building in which we lived later served everyone in our apartment with Unlawful Detainers & Eviction Notices although we had a lease with owner who too lived in the same building as all of us. With ownership of building being disputed in court, still being threatened with Unlawful detainers and eviction, Scott advised us to continue to pay our rent in a timely manner to the "new owners". Although another tenant & I had the exact same case, we chose Scott, our neighbor did not. The "new owners" suddenly and without any forewarning changed their lawyer and ask us to pay all the back rent in one lump sum. No explanation even though past checks would still be honored. Scott advised us to comply, our neighbor's attorney advised otherwise. The end result, we were finally recognized as tenants whereas our neighbor still faced many legal challenges to come. (big mistake on his part) Now that almost a year of harassing behavior on the part of the "new owners", was finally put to rest, the terms of the lease stated that the losing party would pay for the legal fees. Our case was heard before a judge and at first, we lost. With facts in hand, Scott knew it wasn't right so we appealed and had the initial judgment overturned in our favor. From this past experience, lessons learned are that not all attorneys behave the same. Initially, some are like cheer leaders who are full of energy and give clients high expectations. As time goes by, many of those same lawyers either become "too busy" or lose touch with their clients. Scott is not one of them. He is what you would call a truly "down to earth" type of person who is easy to talk with and to his clients, always readily available. Legal representation and advice is always an investment and finding a competent, hard working attorney to work on your behalf is not easy in a sea of "lawyers"... Here's an insider's tip: Go see Scott first. Unlike the others, even the first consultation is free...

I called Mr. Losh regarding an issue I was fearful would quickly get out-of-hand. Mr. Losh asked questions other attorneys didn't, then requested a little time to think about the issue. I was a little fearful, but Mr. Losh promised to get back to me with a possible solution, quickly. Which is exactly what he did. Mr. Losh's solution was both practical and didn't require a huge amount of spiraling legal fees. I was shocked. Then thankful. I appreciated Mr. Losh's skill, quick response, cost-effective solution, and old school manners. In that order. I would recommend Mr. Losh's services, especially regarding mortgage issues.

We hired Mark Levy because we felt we weren't being treated fairly by American Family Insurance Company. We had significant damage to our house as the result of a storm and our insurance company was refusing to pay for the damage despite an umpire’s judgement. We were feeling very vulnerable and were confused by the legal issue issues in this matter. Mark took the time to explain the legal issues including the strengths and weaknesses in our case. Mark was responsive to our questions and concerns. He was professional, hopeful and honest and not unreasonably optimistic. Everyone in Mark's office was professional, courteous and available. It was never a problem to talk with Mark if we had questions. The other lawyers in his office were always available if Mark was away from the office. Everyone always seem to be up to date in terms of the issues of our case. Throughout the course of this matter his office was in constant communication with us. Ultimately our case was settled in mediation. Mark was a tenacious and tough negotiator. He was excellent partner during the course of this most stressful event. We would highly recommend Mark if you need an excellent lawyer to represent you against your insurance company.

Ms. Berke provided me with outstanding legal representation in the capacity of civil defense counsel after I was alleged to have violated Plaintiff's civil rights. After over four years of litigation, Ms. Berke achieved dismissal of the bulk of Plaintiff's claims via summary judgment, and the case was then settled for a nominal amount, far less than it would have cost to take the case to trial.

I can't express my gratitude enough to Karen for helping our family through a tough situation with our complicated REAL ESTATE case. Since the very beginning, Karen has been open with us in any matter relating to the case, always kept us in the loop on everything she was doing. I have only kind words and nice things to say about her. Karen is very caring and honest. She is a straight shooter, and well balanced. Although Karen is very practical, she has no problem getting aggressive with the opposing client. Karen is highly recommend her for all REAL ESTATE matters.

I want to thank the team at Carman, Bevington & Finegan Law Firm, especially Attorney Michael Finegan, he was absolutely amazing. Every person working there was professional, warm, helpful, patient, & made me feel comfortable & important. Michael in particular went above & beyond by not only being a dynamite attorney, who’s extremely knowledgeable in personal injury but also a very thoughtful counselor listening to my anxieties & offering words of advice & comfort. He fought vigilantly on my behalf through out the case, as I was overwhelmed & exhausted from dealing with my permanent injuries from the accident. I could not have had a better experience. I am grateful for his hard work to make a traumatic and daunting experience less of a burden on me and to achieve a greater outcome than I could have ever imagined. I just can’t thank Michael Finegan enough.” After a careless driver hit the gas instead of their breaks & smashed me between my suv rear end & the careless driver suv rear end. Michael Finegan Esq., looked the case over, took it & told me exactly what would happen, what to expect, & approximately how long it would take. All turned out to be 100% right-on, & I like honesty. Michael’s follow up was excellent & I was truly 100% satisfied with every aspect of the way the case was followed. I received nearly all the maximum allowable compensation I could have from both insurance companies. I’m 100% satisfied with Michael Finegan’s excellent representation, I highly recommend him.

I was involved in a minor vehicle accident for which my healthcare provider and vehicle insurance should have coordinated coverage with the hospital I was taken to. Because that did not happen, I was receiving bills from the hospital that were far above what my insurance should have covered. After many unsuccessful attempts to straighten this out with my provider, I hired Mr. Stepnowski largely because of his experience with healthcare issues. Mr. Stepnowski took time to help me understand the way the law was being interpreted as it related to my claim, as my provider is located out of state. He then drafted an appeal to my insurance provider that was well researched, which won an approval and my provider adjusted the claim. I am grateful for the level of professionalism and knowledge Mr. Stepnowski imparted throughout the process.

I found Mr. Chapman easy to talk with and that he grasped my situation easily and his knowledge of the law to be outstanding. He was friendly and non- judgmental. Most of all he was totally honest with me about how he could help me and honest about what the difficult issues of my case would be. His fee was fair and he kept me informed of everything as we proceeded. I was going through a very difficult time in my life and he did everything he could to make my life easier by doing all he could to keep my stress at a minimum. He was professional and took burdens off of me by handling more than I ever expected and he literally put me at ease every step of the way. Professional , knowledgeable , honest and a truly good person. I will refer anyone to him without any trepidation and he is loyal to his client and everything turned out just fine. Brad is someone you will like and definitely someone you will be glad you have working for you.

Our firm was involved in a case between taxpayers whereby we were accused of purposely not providing documents relevant to the case during discovery (which of course was not true). Our attorney provided by our professional liability insurance carrier was not protecting our legal rights or providing relevant case law to defend us at our sanction hearings. We thus engaged Shane to represent us. He provided excellent representation and we feel minimized what could have been a very costly ordeal, not to mention peace of mind during a trying time.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
