Edited to add: I received texts from John after posting this threatening to sue me if I don’t take it down. Licensed therapist experience here, and my opinion. I had a jarring and intimidating experience with this attorney’s temper. I think John is intelligent, though I was warned ahead of time “he has no friends in the bar.” His paralegal is very good, I will state. I paid a retainer for modification and had one phone consult with John, where he told me he “uses emotional intelligence” to help his clients. Two weeks after discovery he sent on my behalf was due, I asked about an email I had sent several days prior on case progression that had gone unanswered, and also asked for an itemized statement of work done. When I followed up, he said I “should have texted him” (when he didn’t respond to an email) and “if you want to pounce on me for failure, I am not interested in that, and if you’re so unhappy I will withdraw.” I had never been given a cell number— nor had I mentioned wanting to end services with his firm. As a client, I asked for a case progression update and for a financial statement. A couple of moments after the email exchange, he began sending me texts on my personal cell and reiterated I “ought to communicate with him there when I don’t get answers to my emails, or feel I am ignoring your case.” I had not yet responded to his email when I began receiving these texts. I mentioned I would have support members of my family read over the exchange between us and go from there. To this he bizarrely responded “no need to wait, I am withdrawing [at the next business day].” This abrupt termination leaving me without representation at an important time in my case happened quickly upon asking questions and for transparency. As a female client, the “emotional intelligence” disappeared quickly when I asked questions and led to him dropping my case. Although that is his prerogative, I wanted to share my experience.

I’ve been working with John for just shy of two years. He was incredibly knowledgeable, stood his ground, and had my back from day one. I owe him much more than the money I paid. I cannot thank him enough for getting me through this tough situation.

Never had to use a lawyer much, but when my wife and I decided to start planning for living wills, trusts, etc., Jill and team were awesome, responsive, and professional yet personable.
