Life is good, your career is prosperous, you’re loved by your kid, you’re grateful to life for a promising future, then you receive that appalling phone call. Someone is telling you that you’re being investigated by the police, falsely accused of the worst crime you can imagine, and that you must call a lawyer. And you’re advised to contact Attorney Rick Lougee.
That happened to me, it may be happening to you as you read this, and I was very fortunate to get Lougee’s name. I’m the living case-dismissed proof that hiring Rick Lougee is the right decision when your entire life is in jeopardy.
Always keep in mind Lougee’s principle: You never talk to the police. Throughout my case, sadly, I realized that the police’s investigation is sloppy, they’re lazy in finding facts, the prosecution is ideologically contaminated (e.g. #MeToo), and sometimes, like in my case, rigged.
Rick Lougee assembles an effective and unshakable investigative team for all his cases. For my case, they started working almost immediately. In a matter of a couple of weeks, they revealed the facts that would in time form the foundation for my innocence. They dug deeper than the prosecution during the discovery process, and they found a considerable number of facts and police reports that should have persuaded any police detective to take a closer look at what was going on in the accusers’ house in the first place. But remember, in today’s environment, if you’re accused, you are guilty until proven otherwise. Lougee was determined to demonstrate my full innocence and systematically rejected any proposal of a plea bargain from the prosecution. We agreed that we will go all the way for our battle at trial.
From my experience, Lougee operates using three strategies: He is brashly honest and clear with you about the difficulties of the case. He strategizes with a military mind, planning always under the worst scenarios. He puts extreme care to the detail of law’s fundamentals in his motions, executing the defense brilliantly and effectively in court. I was fortunate to see Rick fighting for me in court. I saw him delivering at least two Perry Mason moments for my case.
My case was complicated by the conundrums of the pandemic, which caused a long waiting process. The nature of my case involved false memories of abuse. Lougee undertook a careful and thoughtful search for the best expert witness from very prestigious academic institution. He covered all the corners of my case, never underestimated the prosecution, and never left my case to the odds. We were ready for trial.
In a fortunate change of events and new information, Lougee discovered a pattern in the police detectives in charge; they were secretly coaching the accusers to provide favorable evidence for the prosecution. And in a most disgraceful act, the police department destroyed all the evidence that we know existed. This triggered the dismissal of my case.
During all my predicament journey of my case, I felt confident that Rick would use all his experience and talents to destroy the prosecution’s case in order to save me from a terrible fate. My confidence was based on Rick’s experience. He has an extensive list of cases that demonstrate he never is afraid of how big the case or the prosecution is. He has been in David vs Goliath situations. He has historical cases featured in newspapers and magazines like The New Yorker, or you can find his cases in academic books on criminal law. But that’s the last thing he cares about. He is focused on beating the prosecution case, but most importantly, he cares about demonstrating your innocence. He will fight for you, call him.

I was falsely accused of two sexual felonies and was facing 17 to 39 years in prison. That amount of time would equate to life in prison for crimes I never commited. My life was coming apart and because the system is heavily stacked against the defendant, I was almost hopeless. We hired Rick Lougee because of his reputation as an outstanding attorney and his over 40 years of experience working difficult cases, especially sex related cases in multiple states. He took my case and immediately, between his investigators and his team, began to build the case proving that the charges were unfounded. He was very honest with me about what to expect and always prepared me for the next step. He was also very empathetic and understood on a gut level what I was going through being unjustly accused of a terrible crime. I am a multiple tour combat veteran and it is no exaggeration to say that this situation was the most terrifying of my life. Sarah is definitely a 5star attorney, I have a federal case out of the southern district of Georgia. She did my direct appeal and oral arguments. Our story with Wallin and Klarich started when we had a serious accusation thrown at a family member. I called them on a Saturday evening, left a message; I immediately got a call from Jonathan Lynn, one of their senior lawyers who made an appointment with us even on a Sunday. He then referred us to one of the partners of the firm, Matthew Wallin, and after our first meeting, we knew that we were starting off on the right path in having this firm at our side.
Matt was always there for us. I know he is a top rated lawyer who handles a lot of cases, but he never made us feel that our case was any less serious or less important. He was always prompt, detailed, pro-active and he was always respectful. Contrary to what a few negative reviewers post here, this firm never made us feel that our case was about money first. I actually had to ask them several times to review the retainer since I really felt that they were spending so much time on our case vs. what we were paying for. I was pulled over for doing donuts in an empty dirt lot, and the police officer told me I would get something in the mail. Almost a year later, I got a court summons telling me I was to be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and vandalism. Adding insult to injury, the DA’s office made me court date AFTER I had moved out of state for school! After consulting with and retaining Matt Wallin, I could not be happier with the outcome. I had a DUI case and a resisting arrest charge. Although this was my first offense, the city where I was pulled over and ticketed is known for being very strict. I hired mr Dolci to represent me for a felony drug charge. He won my case by filing a motion to prove the cops didn't have probable cause to search my car. He made the cop look like a liar. It was great! The case was over in two months and I walked out a free man. We hadn't even payed our full fee to him. He offered to waive the balance of his money. I payed it anyway. “Exceeds expectations” does not even begin to capture the stellar work that Mr. Aiken has done for my family! Was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor. I lost many rights that I once had prior to the charges. I emphasized the importance of getting all my property back and regaining my rights. He handled it as I asked and got me exactly what I wanted as an outcome. It was a long process but largely due to “Covid” and the courts shutting down. He was on top of every aspect. When I I had questions or concerns he answered back immediately. I would hire him in a second in the event I need to in the future ( I have no intention of needing to). I had to take a few minutes to let everyone know just how great of a job Trent did on our injury case. I am also a criminal defense lawyer and have been since 1997. Jim Gass was actually one of my supervising attorneys when I was a law clerk and in the first 3 years of my practice I worked with him extensively. He supervised my first jury trial. I have represented co-defendants in cases with him.
If I needed a lawyer to defend me in trial, I would move Heaven and Earth to convince Jim to represent me. I am not at all exaggerating.
I have seen...I don't know...maybe thousands of criminal defense attorneys in action. I have seen criminal defense lawyers who are flashier and undoubtedly more comfortable with charging people crazy high fees because, after all, being a little full of BS is part of the business side of criminal defense. I don't know how to say this as a positive thing but, I don't think that Jim is good at convincing people to fork over their entire life savings to represent them. He should be because he really is worth it.
Jim is exceptionally good in front of juries...exceptionally...really exceptionally. Are you getting that I am saying he is exceptionally good at connecting with normal types of people who end up on juries?
And, the other thing good about Jim is that he doesn't come across as threatening or arrogant to prosecutors even though they know he is a threat. So, while other criminal defense lawyers may tick off prosecutors and make them want to beat the lawyer, prosecutors in the Inland Empire courts just kind of know that he WILL beat them. It is that trait that allows Jim to effectively settle cases in my opinion.
I wish I could pull rabbits out of hats like Jim can. Anyone who writes a bad review doesn't know what they are talking about and I bet that most of the people who have reviewed him would give him stars that go beyond 5 if it were possible to do it.
Funny but, the only reason I am writing this review is that I have a former client who I just gave Jim's information to so I had to look him up on the internet to get the number. Those people will be in good hands if they hire him.

I had alot going on April 5th, 2018. I just got news that my disabled aunt was diagnosed with cancer. I went out to vent a bit ,and had some drinks. I lost track of my speed and was pulled over for my 2nd DUI. My license was immediately taken away, and a condition of my bond was a restriction that I could not leave the county. So I was facing Charges for driving while drunk in DC and they found my concealed carry (pistol) under my seat and my Virginia License to conceal carry wasn’t recognized by the District of Columbia. But Thankfully Mr. Shawn Sukumar’s amazing Knowledge and experience in his field was able to get the gun charges dropped and I was able to avoid any jail time (aside from the initial arrest) and in the end had 6 months unsupervised Probation with 90 hours of community service, 12 hours of an alcohol class, online driving safety course, Online MADD course and a 100 fee I believe was it. And after all that the judge signed a Youth act order meaning my conviction was removed from my record. All in all I was very satisfied with the end result of my case. Highly recommend this gentleman, he is very professional and makes sure his clients understand everything and is very good about staying in contact with his clients and keeping them updated. You would Definitely want him representing you if you needed an attorney.
