At first, she was helpful. However, dealing with a difficult and controlling ex husband, I have made several calls to the office, sent emails wanting to fight for more rights for my son and I (right of first refusal was not in my decree). I wanted this added. I have not received a phone call back since last year. Countless phone calls and emails not answered can be very frustrating when you ex is out of the country and your son is staying with someone other than his mother.

No stars. He is completely ineffective. I retained their services In july of 2021, as of this day January 21, 2022 Mr Haught only knew me by name. Knew nothing of my case and to my knowledge did nothing to advocate on behalf of me. Assumed he knew everything about me generally-knew nothing and when I became upset bc he had done nothing for me, he withdrew bc he doesn't get involved in the appeal process at this stage and we are in stage 3 of 5. When does he get involved? In my case he didn't. At all.

I maybe 3-4 times in 3 years and it's not on my end it's on Keller and Keller end. The case manager that was assigned only works 3 days a week and gets back to you weeks and months later with no answers just leaving me with no solution. Very frustrating finally had a pre hearing appointment and they cancelled it the day before with him less than a 24-hour notice how professional. I would steer clear from this law firm as much as possible when there are dedicated Social Security lawyers out there and with me seeing the Social Security doctor almost three years ago with confirmed diagnosis is there should not be any hang up. It's pretty sad when I have a transparent relationship with Social Security office and they even say that my case should have been pushed through by now and that if I haven't even seen my lawyer in person since I hired them then it's time to walk away. It's a money Mill stay clear away they do not have you in your best interest you're nothing but a income tag to them you're not a person that matters.

If I could have left zero stars , I would have. I hired Karen Jarnigan to represent me in an appeal for SSDI not SSI. In my hearing, I even had my psychiatrist show up to verify my condition. I 100% qualified for SSDI but the reason i was first denied (didn’t have an attorney) they denied me due to not being able to read his medical records on me. This is why I had my psychiatrist attend the hearing which is an unbelievable feat to began with. Good luck getting a MD to testify at a disability hearing to began with which I handled on my own with no help from Jarnigan. She was not ready at all for my hearing. She couldn’t have even reviewed my file as she was clueless. The judge made the hearing extremely confusing and Jarnigan did nothing to straighten out the confusion except sit there and let me try to explain along with my doctor. I am no attorney but honestly i handled everything and didn’t even need her looking back. All she did was make it worse. If i had had an adequate attorney, i am convinced i would have been approved. however, Long story short, the judge denied my SSDI, but possibly SSI?. After the hearing was over, i was furious and Karen Jarnigan told me to basically take a hike and i was lucky to get what I got which was basically nothing. After i went to another attorney Stephen Hyder after this happened and he told me he couldn’t believe how my case was handled and Jarnigan shouldn’t even have a law degree. Trust me when you read this, there is nothing that’s not true. Jarnigan’s receptionist/assistant was a nightmare as well which looking back I should have fired her then.

I had been denied for disability. I contacted him and went in to discuss my case. He kept telling me it would be 18 months. At the fair Jo Bonner (our then local congressman was there and we asked him what we need to do to expedite my case. I filled out hids forms and he told me to let Gil Laden know that I had contacted Jo Bonner's office. He talked to me like a dog. It was so bad that my dad heard him on speaker phone and told Jim that he was not going to talk to me like that. Gil Laden said that he was going to come off my case! Best thing he could have done for me. Two weeks later I got my approval letter! I got all of my back pay! So glad I contacted my local congressman. Gil Laden tried to draw my case out 18 months, the length of time it would take for him to get the maximum amount from my back pay!

He’s extremely professional and he will take care of your case. He does not charge an arm and a leg. He is very reasonable priced. My case was a disability case I had know idea what I was going to be charged or how long it would drag out. Mr Thrush had my case wrapped up in less than three months and he only charges what the government says he is entitled to take. His payment was already taken from my first disability payment and it was wonderful. Quick and done. I will take all my business to Mr Thrush from now on in the future. He’s a great guy.

This person did absolutely NOTHING to defend my case against my ex wife in our divorce proceedings. He also did absolutely NOTHING to defend me against her allegations, that I wasn't disabled, during a divorce hearing, no less. I was found to be legally disabled almost 8 years prior, by a 3 Judge panel, with a Degenerative disease. He charged me thousands of dollars, for me to get information from Social Security, that he should have known, as a supposedly Attorney for Social Security claims. The only thing he knows how to do correctly, is stand in front of the Judge, and say his name, and that he charges $350 per hour. Then he sits down. I will regret hiring this person for the remainder of my life.

In 2018 I’ve suffered from MVA while working. I spent 80 days in hospital, and I had multiple surgeries. I suffer from PTSD, and I disabled. I hire Mallen, because some one told me he is a good lawyer. He is not. He closed my WC case and charged me 23% of my settlement value. He didn’t preserve evidence (the truck I drove), and I couldn’t prove brakes failure, he just assumed I felt asleep, but I can recall all the details of my accident. I suffer from amnesia after my accident, and he didn’t do anything helping to find out real cause of my accident. I consulted Morgan and Morgan after I fired Mallen, but I was told there is no preserved evidence in my case, and I should hire someone who does both Workers Comp and Personal Injury case. Mallen rushed me to sign settlement, despite it wasn’t good for me. I can tell now I lost at least $800,000.00, because of his negligence. Please think twice before hire him

Richard Mallen represented me in two legal matters. I was a victim of hit and run on a busy roadway. My life changed dramatically within seconds due to my horrific and multiple injuries. Physically and mentally, I will never be the same. Richard helped me with the mounds of paperwork from my employer, health providers and insurance companies and made sure that I was able to provide for my family in my new situation. He has great bed side manner and always had the right words to calm me during such a difficult time. When he said he had it all under control, he meant it. Stacy, his legal assistant, was also always available to me to make sure all my questions were answered. Both of them made sure that my cases were always in order concerning my auto suit and my workers’ compensation case. I am grateful to them both for their kindness and expert legal representation.

Mr. Mallen explained everything to the letter of the law on how things were going to go for approximately the next few years. He was absolutely honest in every conversation I ever had with him! He was completely understanding of my legal and medical problems and was very competent in representing me. Consulted attorney and hired. My case could not get any easier. Non- Contested WC case. After meeting with Mr. Crabtree, he seemed very interested in my case. However, there were issues I discussed early on regarding my slip and fall injury at work VERY IMPORTANT obtaining the surveillance video of my fall. At first he said he would try to obtain the video. As my case moved along Mr. Crabtree never mentioned the surveillance video again. This was very important to me. Another issue discussed CHANGE OF PHYSICIAN. A hearing was set three months before the date only to have this attorney tell me I would loose. This was the day before the hearing. The INTERROGATORIES another interesting step in this WC process--he does not give you a lot of information; however he needs months to prepare, VERY IMPORTANT he changes my statement leaves out important information about the surveillance video and any witnesses that watched the video. I'm an injured worker-my injuries have left me with horrible pain I have to deal with every day. I thought I selected the right attorney. This attorney works for the corporation. Do your research!!! He carefully listens to you in order to turn around and use this to his advantage.

He even guided me into my sobriety after those pain management doctors had me on a path to self distruction. Stood by my side, and always answered my calls without fail. And during all this had never collected a dime. I have no doubt he will negotiate the best settlement possible for me. Andrea Hamm was my attorney. She took my case knowing the details. I was scheduled for trial when she took my case and she quit 2 weeks prior to trial because I wouldn't settle. The settlement was very unfair but due to her not doing her job she did not get my case one step further than it was when she took it. She quit 2 weeks prior to my trial without warning me and caused my case to get dismissed. She was aware that i didn't have time to get another Attorney. 9 months later after I filed a greivance on her she put a random lein on my case. She told the most unbelievable lies to the Attorney Greivance Commision. But I wasn't surprised because she lied to me concerning my case. She was desperate to get paid but not desperate to make sure she fought for me. She also told the judge I didn't owe her anything but since it was off the record now she put a lein on my case 9 months later.

I know my case may not win because the former attorney seems to be trying anything he can do to see me fail. I also know that Andrea is someone that is honest with you from day one. I needed to consult with an attorney on the usual practices regarding Workers Comp. due to having a newer business and finding myself in an unusual circumstance as an employer. Through seeking advice with Ms. Samet I became more acquainted with the technical terms in this area and the procedures. Ms. Samet gave several pointers to help guide me and reviewed several processes of what to expect. She expressed a great deal of enthusiasm and concern towards reviewing my matters and now feel more informed as an employer and have a peace of mind. I am thankful she took the time to address all my questions, gave me her full attention with a sense of care and had a supportive staff that seemed very driven and task oriented (I left my cell at their office and they immediately contacted me). From the time I arrived by being warmly greeted by a little dog that happened to be at the office that helped sooth my anxiety, to the warm, welcoming assistance and point of meeting Dee Dee who was very knowledgeable... My full experience at this law office through my consultation was definitely valuable. I was able to discuss many areas of workers comp that I was not familiar with and found Mrs. Samet to be very resourceful. This attorney used to represent employers in the past, however she now represents employees. This attorney has a vast amount of knowlege and wisdom through her long years of practice and experience.

Mr. Lerner and his staff are consummate skilled Professionals, and I “HIGHLY” recommend them to anyone filing a work related disability claim because hiring an attorney with definitive experience, counts!! I was going to work as a Law Enforcement Officer with debilitating lower back pain for years after being involved in two work-related auto accidents. I was seeing a Physician at a practice in Commack, NY since 2010 and he documented that I needed a single or possibly a bi-level fusion in 2013, but he thought I was too young for that type of surgery so I continued to work and live with the pain because no one told me that I might be disabled or incapable of performing my duties as a Law Enforcement Officer—not even my employer and they have a Chief Surgeon who would read all my medical notes after my doctor and therapy visits. A coworker saw me in agonizing pain while at work one day, and recommended that I go see Mr. Lerner to see if I have a possible disability claim. When I first saw Mr. Lerner in June of 2017 and he read my MRI, he couldn’t believe that I was at work with my lower back condition, and he advised me that I did in fact have a disability case—It was Mr. Lerner’s EXPERIENCE that instantly recognized that I had a favorable case. As you could imagine, I was stunned! Mr. Lerner was the first person to tell me that I was disabled and incapacitated from performing my duties as a Law Enforcement Officer. In June of 2018, I was awarded an Accidental Disability Retirement Pension on application, and I thank Mr. Lerner and his lovely assistant Margaret for making me aware of my options and guiding me through the arduous process of filing for a disability pension—I am forever grateful of Mr. Lerner and his staff.

William Roth has many times been the light at the end of a dark tunnel for me. I have never in my life met an Attorney that takes a better handle on a case than him. Mr. Cole represented me in a very difficult case and ultimately won. He was always professional and would return my calls as soon as he was free, or have his secretary return my calls with an answer to my question if he was going to be tied up for the entire day. He was kind, understanding, took note of things I mentioned about my situation and despite being very busy, I was always treated with respect. Mr. Cole almost always took the time to talk to me personally, it was rare that his secretary would return my call instead of doing it himself. I have the highest respect for Mr. Cole and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

5-stars is simply not enough. I had the pleasure of working with Robert and Richard with a very complicated unemployment case. I have an extreme amount of gratitude and respect for both attorneys. Both were extremely honest, open, caring, helpful, knowledgeable and hard working. When they did not have a good answer they communicated that and did the research to find it. It took 2 appeals to get my claim to be processed and I do not feel I would have won without their assistance. They will forever be in my network and I will recommend them to anyone that has an unemployment claim in RI.

Mrs. Keller would have been fine if she had stopped trying to please my ex when I was the one paying her. My ex refused to get her own attorney and continued to talk to mine. Keller kept changing my divorce papers for my ex and charged me every change and call with my ex when I specifically asked her not to. Keller used the excuse that she "felt bad" for my ex. Not professional at all.

Charges $50 for opening file. Ask me for info or do something, then charges for all phone calls & emails ($300 for me). Watch who you talk, $75 for ass't, $250 for lawyer, Marie. Charged $500. for Marie to drive to court and another $250 for 1/2 hr of court. In return for me, $65 for unserved subpoenas, over $200 in prep for original deposition that Marie was a no show. Marie never called witnesses for testimony until court, even though she was given info months ahead. Ability to represent for and during trial showed a lack of preparation and inexperience. Needless to say, we lost case of 9yr County notorized recorded deed as invalid, based only on memory testimony of senior citizen, claiming not present with no other legal physical evidence. Of course, Ms Troxler offered to handle appeal with up front $3500 nonrefundable retainer. No way, hired another lawyer to clean up her mess. This firm probably would lose case for Abe Lincoln. Oh, firm doesn't give monthly statements, so watch your charges from day of retaining firm. This firm only does basic legal forms needed by court, no investigating. You would do better, pro se, if you got knowledge to file legal forms. At least, if you lose, you save that nonrefundable retainer. At least, you know your best effort was done. Something this firm may have a hard time ethically saying.

With the events of the world these days I thought it would be a good idea to get a trust or will together. I was referred to Josh Meister by a church friend. Josh was exceptional in answering all my questions and guiding me in setting up my estate. He was kind, compassionate and gave me a very fair price. I would highly recommend him. He is a man of faith too. That was important to me.

I consulted with Mr. Russell as a possible new client. I do not recommend him. I would describe him as a false hope and taking up clients valuable time. Don't commit to replying to someone for days on end then ignoring them completely wasting their time. After you give them what I call false hope of taking their case. I will look in other places to also post my review.

I contacted Attorney Kofoed to review matters relating to my criminal case. Although the case was not one of his areas of expertise, he was extremely nice and thorough in reviewing all major aspects of my case. Russ took the time to listen and see if there was anything he could do to help. Prior to this occasion, I had used Attorney Kofoed's services in the past on a number of issues relating to educational and administrative law. On each of those cases, he always kept in direct communication with me and explored every avenue on my cases in an attempt to win them. For these reasons, I have no problem in recommending Attorney Russ Kofoed in the areas of administrative or educational law.

This attorney coordinated the referrals. I didn’t know what I needed to do to address a board discipline, and it was relatively new to her also. She had seen it before. How she helped was to get me to the right people. A comprehensive diagnosis for my medical issue, the right litigator for the hearing, consultations with specialists, getting reliable information from the right people in positions of authority. She put in the legwork by making calls and doing legal research, then tapped into her network to shore up resources. The process and procedures were uncharted territory for me and I certainly needed guidance. The road was long and slow. Eventually, it was adjudicated in my favor. Thanks to this attorney I was successful in proving competence and am able to restart the practice of medicine. Other attorneys did not and do not deliver this level of service.

I would absolutely recommend her to any and everyone. She has helped my family out on so many occasions. If she can’t help she always directs to an attorney who can, then checks regularly to make sure everything is going well with the attorney she recommended. She is really the absolute best, she really cares about her clients!

Bob is a super lawyer! He impressed me from day one. I had an injury at work and had to deal with the IC adjuster myself. I consider myself very lucky when I saw his interview on a show similar to Meet the Press. I knew that Bob could help me out while I had to deal with the IC aduster for my rights to receive a worker's compensation benefits. I especially thank him for transferring my case from NJ to PA with the best benefits possible, which I am currently earning now. Bob always returns my calls and emails promptly. He also spent a lot of time to explain and share with me his tremendous knowledge. I recommend him highly to anyone!

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
