I have had a few attorney's I've hired for an enduring custody battle, and after I thought all was lost in hiring a truly reliable attorney, Marilyn came along and has helped me so much. Marilyn does what she says she will do, and goes to bat for you. The thing is she understood everything I said to her and is compassionate about the matters I was concerned about. I highly recommend at least consulting with her, her team is amazing and I couldn't be more satisfied.

Marilyn has been the very best, I will never use any else! She took the time to explain the process and my options. After I filed my 13, I had some pretty big changes in my family and wanted to switch to 7, she was completely supportive of my decision and even help me come up with additional options, should I need them. Going in front of the trustee was very intimidating, I was so relieved to have her by my side. She is very knowledgeable and always on top of things.

Balean and Kristy kept me sane during the hardest year of my life and I am forever grateful.
I was too nervous to reach out to a divorce lawyer even though it was well past time, so a friend of mine who is a lawyer in another area talked me into it and recommended these two personally. I can't say enough good things so I'll try and break it down into the things that are/were important to me in a divorce.
They are NOT pushy. I was so nervous the first call, I did not want to get a divorce. I even (politely) told them I hope we don't ever need to talk again. They were extremely supportive. Not one single time did either of them push me towards a divorce. They answered all my questions honestly and thoughtfully and I never felt rushed.
On the flip side of that, they are also very cognizant that their time is expensive. So for me, it is very hard to find a lawyer who is constantly aware of running up your tab, but personable enough to trust them and not feel like just another check in the spreadsheet. On top of that, I have ADHD so I can get off on a tangent with the best of them. Both Kristy and Balean we're very good at redirecting me into the areas that mattered and pushing me though the areas that didn't without letting me get hung up on them.
They are extremely prompt (during business hours, I cant speak to otherwise because I don't expect people to work 24/7), I don't think I ever waited a full day for a reply. You WILL feel like a priority. Which frankly with how being a lawyer works, is pretty remarkable.
They know their stuff. I don't know a better way to put that. And if they don't know, they make it a priority to find out. I had a few odd snafus with property issues and a few (lets say less than reasonable) demands from my now ex, and if I had a question they tracked it down if they weren't already sure.
They are generally fun and calming presences. Mediation went for a full day, so Balean was trapped in a room with me for probably 12 straight hours. And if you aren't aware (i certainly wasn't), mediation is very much hurry up and wait. When we had the mediator, it was 100% business. When she was in the other room, we walked through everything we needed to discuss, got advice, and then were able to relax and recharge a bit before the next turn. As you can imagine, its an emotional time. I went from needing to pace the hallways angry to bouncing off the walls bored to everything in between and not once did Balean get even slightly irritated with me. They are VERY aware that you're going though something and that while we need to be efficient there also needs to be room for you to be a person with feelings and needs.
So if you don't read all of that, the important bits are they are going to make you a priority and you'll feel like it, they will not run up your bill for no reason and will be honest when they think something may do so, they give you grace to be going though something hard, while also getting you though it in a prompt and efficient and competent manner. I absolutely would not even consider another legal team if these guys are available. I can't speak highly enough of this firm.

Had a consultation with this lawyer based on my friends great recommendation. Not only I left the consultation with the bad taste in my mouth I also spent 400$ for nothing. It was supposed to be a Strategic Planning Session but it more felt like a Judging Session as the lawyer was extremely arrogant and judged me by my income telling me quote "I couldn't afford her" because I am a beautician. Had I been a CFO like my ex that I was divorcing I am sure she would have had different approach. She told me that my divorce didn't matter and I should get some money and move on and I am not entitled to anything except a little bit of child support. I had a lawyer who now proved that she is fantastic, but at the time she wasn't answering my email so I was looking to change my lawyer and this is how i ended up in Hollys office, which I regretted going to. I felt discriminated based on my race and income.

Divorce is one of the most difficult processes to go through. I had many concerns about my decision when I retained Holly to represent me. After seeing this woman on TikTok I would not hire her. She is obviously bias, sexist and uses social media to spread propaganda about women. Considering not all “clients” tell the truth, it is irresponsible to spread information not confirmed in a court of law. I would rather the lawyer I hire spend her time on the case at hand not on TikTok. Be wary of this woman.

Lynette is an excellent attorney. She's pragmatic and knowledgeable, but perhaps her best characteristic, is that she's an excellent judge of character. It shocked me how often she would predict the other party's next move.
I credit Lynette with making sense of the complex situation I was in, keeping me calm, and also giving me the insights and clarity I needed to frame what success would look like. This was important, because my case ultimately settled outside of court, during the tense days leading up to the court date.
During the process, Lynette accompanied me to hearings and waited outside during mediation. She read emails and text messages, and also helped me craft responses. I have taken these lessons on communicating with the other party forward into my future, to ensure that my communications are clear and emotionless.

Working with Lynette was a seamless, professional, and pleasant experience. Valerie Goudie is the epitome of a saint.
From day 1 she was invested in our step-parent adoption case.
She didn’t care that we’re a same-sex couple, she believed in our case and she made sure every document was complete and accurate, she listened and put not only her work, but her heart into this case. One incident in the case we thought the judge may dismiss but she vowed no matter what we had this and she wouldn’t give up. She knows exactly what she’s doing and in the event she has a question, she checks it 7 times over.
With every quote we received upon filing for the adoption she was by far the best price. Even though 10 months later we racked a nice bill because I emailed her so much..she’s worth every single penny.
Aside from winning our case she was there for me when I needed her, through my panic attacks and my frantic emails to crying relief over the phone. My favorite moment when i knew without a shadow of a doubt she had our family’s best interest at heart, was when she dropped what she was doing on her mini vacation to call me and calm my nerves after a traumatic event with the biological parent. Mr. Rocker has been nothing short of extraordinary in handling my affairs and the affairs of my company. As having been caught up in the real estate bubble several years back, my company has had its share of turmoil. Mr. Rocker has been there and continues to be here every step of the way. In addition to company issues that stemmed from the "bubble" bursting, personal issues have come my way as well. Jeff has handled each case with the utmost attention to detail. He continues to carefully explain his thought process and strategy in dealing with each situation as if it and I were his only case. His very thorough analysis of cases have shed light to our benefit in more than one instance. He has a very hard to find ability to articulate extremely technical legal terms and statements into more common terms that a non-lawyer such as myself may understand and use to make informed decisions with his guidance. For me, Jeff posses a valuable attribute in his follow-ups. He ALWAYS gets back to me the same day or as close to it as possible. I can be somewhat of a high-maintenance client and you would never know it by the way Jeff and his entire team at Beck Rocker treat me. They're never snarky or sound as if they'd like to say, "it him again." In fact, the team at Beck Rocker sound delighted and very enthusiastic when I call or run by the office.

Mr. Kern represented me in 2021. I wanted to wait until my case was settled before speaking about my experiences, so if you have found this review too late before experiencing the same please forgive me. These are my opinions of my experiences as a client.
I met with Mr. Kern and described my situation to him. He presented himself as a competent and experienced attorney with a specialty in family law. Reading through other reviews here, it appears his specialty is adoption and I'm sure he has done good work there and has helped a lot of people. He listened to my concerns and gave some feedback, and in my limited experience and knowledge it seemed like good feedback/advice at the time. I would go on to retain Mr. Kern , a mistake I would regret.
It wasn't until about a month later when I noticed something was off. Mr. Kern often did not respond to questions via email. When he did respond the answers were sometimes vague or even non-answers.
Having now been to a successful mediation I can confidently say the mediation with Mr. Kern was a mismanaged and mishandled disaster. Despite my pleas; from my perspective Mr. Kern did little to nothing to prepare me for mediation, did not provide useful feedback on my independent preparation for it, and otherwise did not represent me or my interests during mediation.
During mediation Mr. Kern asked the mediating attorney for advice and guidance concerning the matters at hand. This is when I found out he was not as competent in this area of practice as I needed him to be, during a mediation. Mr. Kern did not advocate for me, and at some points was openly ridiculing my lack of legal knowledge in front of the mediating attorney. Please bear in mind I had begged him to prepare and educate me beforehand in the months leading up to the mediation. The mediating attorney appeared far more knowledgeable and I received my education and advice during mediation.
A week after this predictable failure of a mediation, Mr. Kern contacted me to disclose he would no longer represent me as he didn't feel as though he could reach my goals. My opinion was Mr. Kern likely knew he could not reach my goals during our initial consultation months previously. From my perspective Mr. Kern knowingly accepted a retainer from me and wrote specific actions he was responsible for in a Representation Agreement (filing of contempt charges), with no intention of ever executing the agreed upon actions. I feel this way because had he intended to do what he said he would, he would have done it, and without me begging and nagging. I contacted Mr. Kern and made it clear I was not attacking him or his character as a person, but as an attorney he did not perform anywhere near to my expectations, he failed to execute the scope of our Representation Agreement, and I felt that I was entitled to be refunded some fees. His response to this was he would not be returning any fees.
I have had time to think about this situation and how it could have worked out differently or had a better outcome. The only solution I could imagine working was to avoid Ted Kern. I have also had a lot of time to work on forgiveness and giving Mr. Kern the benefit of the doubt. In this situation I cannot give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a nice man and sells himself well, but he did not instill confidence in his abilities to me and did not perform to a level congruent with his hourly rate. When someone knowingly does some of the things Mr. Kern did (or failed to do), gets called out for them politely, and refuses to apologize or offer reparations for their actions we can deduce the issue may be related to issues of character versus a mistake made. My opinion I've developed is he is of poor character professionally. Be careful who you choose in custody matters, some attorneys are more engaged than others. In my case, he felt like controlled opposition and I was often in disbelief regarding his conduct.

When the situation turned less contentious, he pivoted to help us with the (ultimately successful) adoption process. I hired Johnathan for a semi complicated custody case. After being hired I found out that my ex had already filed and we had a court date already set. I sent this information to Johnathan he informed me that he had prior arrangements and couldn’t make it but would have someone step in on his place. Emily was wonderful and professional and also knowledgeable.
My issue is more with billing and communication on what I would be billed. I turned out that due to Johnathans personal conflict with my initial court date I would not be paying 350 for any communication with Johnathan and an additional 250 for Emily. Had I known this would be the car I would had asked to be transferred over to Emily only as she was able to show up for my case and while my case was semi complicated it an experienced lawyer should’ve been wholly able to navigate it better than myself.
Additionally, dusting a family emergency I called his office on a Thursday at 2:40 and was informed that he was not at his desk but would call me back. Due to urgency I then sent an email of which did not get responded to until Monday. He then informed me that his lack of response was because I did not include his assistant or the other attorney that I didn’t even know had been added to my case. Having never hired an attorney before better communication was expected in terms of who I would get billed for. The handout while full of information on how much certain tiers of employees would cost is helpful but really of no use when no one communicates and says this attorney will also be added to your case at your expense because on personal conflicts.
I discontinued his services after he could not be reached and I informed him of my issues, feelings, and how I felt about his services and he responded with he “respectfully disagreed”
I would recommend Emily as I actually did get to met with her in person and speak with her. I know billing and lack of communication was not her fault.

I selected Jon McHugh of the Livesay & Myers Leesburg office to help me through a recent divorce. I unfortunately have experience with other divorce attorneys and because of previous issues, I interviewed a few others before I finally picked Jon.
I was immediately impressed with his candor and demeanor. He didn't tell me what I wanted to hear, like many have. He also didn't look at his watch before he said hello or goodbye like I've experienced in the past. He listened to my story and gave me his thoughts about a path forward. I was sold on him after the first five minutes.
Working with Jon and his support staff was my favorite of all time attorney interactions. Jon and Margaret Stanley were extremely responsive to any of my questions or requests and I never got the feeling that they were looking for things to charge me for like I've experienced in the past.
The bottom line is that the final settlement came out much better than we discussed in the beginning. I chalk that up to Jon knowing what he is doing and the strategy he laid out working better than expected. Exceeding expectations is how you get satisfied customers and I certainly am one. As a side note, this cost me less in legal fees than I expected and much less than I've previously experienced.

When we set out to find an adoption attorney to handle our families situation....we had no idea how grateful we would be to have selected Melody Royall. It was sort of an easy open close case at first with the mother voluntarily relinquishing rights....Melody was very patient, knowledgeable and caring about the delicate situation since it was in the family. The adoption went through...all was good....until a few years later we hired Melody Royall again to help us with the biological mother wanting to get her rights back. Melody again represented us with all her knowledge, advice, patience, caring and professionalism we again made the right decision and our family was again thankful for her! I was a father in a desperate situation and needed immediate help to save my kids from an extremely abusive home. This is especially difficult (almost impossible) when the mother is the abuser.
