Jayme handled my mother's affairs during a very difficult time for me as my son had recently passed away. She took care to explain and guide me through a most tedious process. With her patience and resolve, everything fell perfectly into place. I highly recommend Jayme. My husband and I hired David Taylor to review our wills, trust and POA. We needed to update these documents and make sure they were in compliance with Idaho law. He did a great job. He listened to our needs, concerns and answered all our questions. David made very good suggestions to improve these documents. He was very thorough and very reasonable priced. With the active covid-19 virus here nationwide, we feel better protected legally and that our wishes would be carried out if need be during these troubling times. David has been a great help. We highly recommend him.

He guided us through our Will, Trust, and complete estate planning process, while actively listening to our concerns and wishes. David takes the time to make sure that every possible scenario is covered. We can now rest assured that no matter what happens to my spouse and I -- while living, or after we pass -- our wishes will be adhered to, and our children won't be left with a legal mess.

Charlotte from Stone Law Group made my Estate Planning a breeze. I was expecting the whole process to be confusing and overwhelming, honestly that’s why I’ve put it off for so long. Charlotte is very easy to deal with. I thought forming a Trust would be a difficult, costly, and time consuming adventure. However, Charlotte listens and did my estate planning as we discussed forming a Trust and all of the other associated paperwork painlessly and put me at ease from the moment I met her. . Charlotte gave me a date everything would be ready and it was done professionally and on time. Charlotte took the time to explain exactly how the Trust works and explain all of the details contained within. My association didn't end when I paid and left. I have had several questions and Charlotte either returned my email within a day or so or picked up the phone and called me to answer my question. This was an awesome experience with a very professional attorney. I would highly recommend Charlotte to anyone looking for estate planning, she is absolutely the best! Thank you.

Audra Woods provides outstanding service. She is knowledgeable, efficient and immediately makes her clients feel at ease. She helped me set up my Dad's trust, will and power of attorney shortly after my mom passed away. She goes out of her way to explain things in a manner that is easily understood for everyone; especially my elderly father. Both my dad and I feel much better knowing we are in good hands with Audra. I have recommended her to several of my friends who are in the need of a compassionate, caring, and excellent elder law attorney.

Audra helped us sort through many issues involving my very elderly mother. She helped us plan for the time when she would pass and then when we needed to get through the process of wrapping up her estate when it did happen. This is very complicated stuff and she guided us to the right conclusion. Audra did so in what we thought was a very reasonable price. She also advised us on the purchase of a condominium. I was fortunate to find Michelle Siebenaler to complete a probate that was started with another attorney. The probate involved disabled heirs—one on Medicaid. Michelle is very knowledgeable, and she gave me information and options that I hadn’t heard about—such as being able to start one’s own Special Needs Trust. In a related case, she represented me and helped me provide information to the DHS, bringing their claim against the estate to a quick and good resolution. Beyond being a very smart and skilled attorney, Michelle is also very kind and thoughtful. As executor, I was occasionally overwhelmed by the work, and she was always willing to help. She is also straightforward and honest about her fee, giving an upfront estimate of hours for the job. In every case she was more than fair. I could not recommend her more highly.

Julia was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. She knew all the complex rules associated with Medicaid and helped me find the best course of action. She explained things clearly and simply. And, there were several issues which she highlighted that none of the people that I had spoken with (various agencies, TennCare reps, medical care, insurance agents, funeral home personnel, and social workers, etc) were aware of! We quickly developed a strategy which I believe is the best going forward. Thanks Julia.

If you are looking for an eldercare lawyer who is an expert in his field, committed to his clients’ needs, and successful in expediting the best results in caring for your elderly loved ones and in safeguarding their hard-earned assets, Robert Slutsky is the eldercare lawyer for you. My experience with Robert Slutsky and his paralegal, Sheila has been intellectually enlightening, financially beneficial, psychologically calming, emotionally soothing, When I first took on the responsibility as primary caretaker for my elderly and infirmed parents, I had no idea the enormity of the process that lay ahead of me. Mr. Slutsky assisted in procuring and completing the piles of necessary paperwork in caring for my father until his death and in transitioning my mother into nursing home care that would be covered by Medicaid. My eyes were opened to the complications and constantly changing legal landscape of eldercare. Mr. Slutsky helped me Navigate the labyrinth of Medicaid rules. He explained the nuances of federal regulations and assisted me in circumventing costly pitfalls that would have depleted my parents’ estate. For example, Mr. Slutsky informed me how as caretaker, I must show my address as my parents’ home for at least two years in order to have my father’s house as part of my inheritance rather than have it signed over to the nursing home. Mr. Slutsky’s timely legal advice and expertise also led to the successful signing over of other financial assets to my siblings and me, thus averting their being delegated to the nursing home. Having the knowledge and direction of Mr. Slutsky was instrumental in helping me maintain my calm over my years as caretaker. Both he and his paralegal were always ready and willing to entertain any concern or worry that I had. It was nothing for me to send an email at midnight and to have received an answer by 6:00 am the next morning alleviating all my anxiety. Mr. Slutsky was always reassuring and genuinely interested in my parents care as well as kind in appreciating my role as caretaker. I cannot tell you how unexpected these traits were and how above and beyond the professionalism of a lawyer they went. Most importantly was the emotional well- being I experienced in my dealings with Mr. Slutsky. I am confident that my parents were taken care of to the best of my ability and that they have received the care, respect, and love that they deserved in their final years. I am also edified that there are assets of their estate safeguarded to be divided among their children. This would make my parents very happy. They worked hard all their lives and saved well to leave a legacy to their children. To all who are thinking about taking on the role of caretaker or to those who already find themselves in that ever demanding role, I highly recommend that you seek an eldercare lawyer to guide you through this grueling process. I can think of no better eldercare lawyer than Mr. Robert Slutsky. Shirley Scheponik, R.N.

When I called him, he was super attentive and spent so much time to hear my case, he then provided me with the most honest evaluation of my case. He was extremely professional and went out of his way to help me settle the case with the defendant. He had numerous phone calls with the defendant's lawyers and could successfully negotiate a settlement at a much higher value than I expected. I highly recommend Patrick Kelley Family Law to anyone going through family legal matters. I called and spoke to his paralegal who was very friendly on the phone and pointed me in the right direction. I made an appointment with Patrick and he was very professional and caring. I never felt like I was just one of his clients but a real person going through a real event in my life that mattered to him as well. I was in a child custody case and he was very organized in getting all documents together and creating a great case for me. I personally had an out of state case and everything was done over the phone and email. Anytime I had a question or concern he was always available to speak to me or called me back within the same day. When going to court he knew all the right questions to ask and was prepared for the trial with no surprises. I feel like he was not only my lawyer but a part of my family. He always had a personal touch to our conversations to ask how everyone in the family was doing and was honest and true. If you need an attorney who cares for your matter and not just your money, I would highly highly recommend Patrick Kelley!!

I have worked as an IT director for two major Law Firms for 30 years and I know the business well. Susan Rooth was initially hired by my parents to prepare the standard paperwork for estate planning. This was done with a high degree of competence at very fair rates. Approximately five years ago, it become clear that my parents, in their mid 80s, could no longer care for themselves. In a meeting with me and my wife to review some of the paperwork, Susan took a very active role and helping me find home care resources that fortunately we could afford, and stay involved up through today to see that they were well cared for. They have both since passed away, and Susan and her staff did an excellent job in assisting me with handling both estates, and she is still assisting today. It was a lot of work that would have been very difficult for me to do on my own. Her rates continue to be very fair and her staff is highly competent and responsive. Also, she is well known by many of the local banks and that made things go much smoother when needed. Although as stated, her Firm provides an excellent work product at reasonable rates, what I am most impressed with about Susan and what motivates me to write this review is the level of personal interest and compassion that she displays for her clients and the level of assistance and concern she has that goes far beyond the basic provision of legal services. It is truly exceptional, and I say this as someone who has been in the industry. Overall, for anyone with aging parents who needs these services, or in need of estate planning for the themselves, I offer this unqualified recommendation - you will not find anyone better, or more caring and helpful on a personal level.

Let me regale you with the tale that this intrepid woman has gone through on my behalf. I got out of the military on a medical discharge, with severe injuries leaving me unable to work. I applied for VA and Social Security Disability compensation. I was denied multiple times for social security for many years, the VA gave me a high rating out the gates, but was lower than what their own paperwork stated I should be at. I had been dealing with the VA and SSA for several years with no progress being constantly denied despite meeting their criteria. Fritzie has represented me with just these two cases for several years now. With dogged determination she managed to power through the ridiculous bureaucracy that is our federal government. We had to appeal my case up to a federal level and still she stuck to it and she won. She has had my case with the VA for just as long, to get the rating I should have had, by their own standards of rating. She has won not only the appeals for my total disability rating with the VA, but also the back pay award, the same way that she won the appeal for my social security. Because of her work my life has been changed forever: Because of her work I was able to get old student loans dismissed, repair my credit, and afford a home of my own -as I was unable to afford one being unable to work- and have a life of my own again, not being forced to rely on my family financially just to survive now that these cases have been won and I am being properly compensated for my injuries incurred during my time in service. There is no way I could possibly do proper justice to the depths of my gratitude for her, but I will say that she has a vast well of instinct and experience at her disposal coupled with determination to see things through.

I reached out for guidance, I wasn't sure if I had a case. Attorney Ervin talked me through the entire situation. It was great to be understood and and even better that I felt he understood. Taking the time to go over the details, he made me feel secure that he was aware of my situation and I wouldn't be fighting this on my own.

Pam helped us complete a trust for my husband's mother and sort out a neglected set of small investments. The goal was to structure everything so that my mother-in-law could stay in her home but be eligible for Medicaid if and when she required a skilled nursing facility. My mother-in-law was house-bound and Pam was so helpful with coming to the house, explaining everything, and guiding her through the process. When my mother-in-law died, Pam's work really made it straightforward and all the disposition of assets went smoothly with no problems or probate. We liked Pam so much we had her do our estate plan soon after. She was very expert in her recommendations and made a process that can be a little traumatic, both easy and painless. We can now be sure that we will leave an estate that will not cause our beneficiaries undue trouble and will not cause our assets to be subject to unnecessary taxes or probate. Pam really knows what she is doing and the cost was reasonable as well.

When you feel the need to hire an attorney, there is a "sticker shock" for most of us when we find out the cost. However, for my case, Pamela did everything to keep her fees and the court cost to a minimum. And, she kept me informed from the beginning to end, letting me know the pros and cons (I almost feel she was to cautious). In her, I found no dishonestly in running up the cost, and yes the cost did run up, but this was because of a system that can be very frustrating, it wasn't on her! And, she warned me how the 'system" works and of potential problems that might arise there too. You have to make up your mind as to whether or not the cost is worth it, but I strongly feel that you will have an honest attorney who cares, and wants you to keep as much of your money as possible. Oh, and for what is worth, she is nice person.

Marilyn was our attorney for both selling and buying our homes. She was always available to answer our questions, so pleasant to work with and incredibly knowledgeable about what terms to accept and which ones to push back on. We always felt she had our best interest in mind and would not only recommend her but she will always be our real estate attorney moving forward.

Marilyn completed two real estate transactions for me and I would hire her again without reservation. She embodies what everyone expects in a professional: she is meticulous, responsible and dedicated to her client's interests and, not inconsequentially in my experience, a fighter when she needs to be and a diplomat otherwise. She is personable, patient in explaining the fine points of contracts and accessible. I recommend her very highly.

Marilyn is an awesome attorney to work with. This was my second experience using Marilyn's services, and I felt like I brought her the most crazy real estate situations. She was extremely proactive and knowledgeable in appropriately handling both circumstances. She also was very patient with my super detail-oriented, impatient nature, which reassured me that things were competently being taken care of. I am used to having to chase people for a living to get things done, and Marilyn was actually beating me to the punch in this regard. I definitely will use her again!

Having recently move to Florida, we desired to have our Wills and other documents upgraded to conform to Florida requirements and our new situation. Randy quickly understood our needs and desires and at our second meeting did an excellent job of walking us through the documents, answering our questions and providing clarifications. It was a very informative and painless process.

I have used Randy as my estate attorney for over 10 years. Randy’s knowledge of trusts and wills made a complicated subject much easier to understand and create. Not only is he highly knowledgeable and dedicated, but caring and compassionate which is so important and appreciated in this sensitive matter. With his partner, Peggy Hoyt, he has created a practice filled with a knowledgeable and competent staff that is extremely friendly and helpful. Their annual estate review plan keeps me focused on maintaining my estate in a timely manner in response to changes in my life. I’d recommend him to anyone needing legal estate services.

Since that time I've refferred severel people to her because I believe she is honest and fair in handling matters. Thanks to Attorney Wolinetz I've been able to settle many matters that were lingering in my life. The only way I would use another attorney is if she feels she couldn't handle the case.

My case didn't look too great after the state picked it up and wanted to prosecute as a felony. I knew it was time to find an acceptional Attourney with a winning attitude. Someone that doesn't like to lose just as much as me. I made the call. Mr. Hamilton's receptionist took down my information and within a short amount of time I was speaking to Paul about my case. He never made any promises or told me we would get it dismissed. He did listen to me and understood my position. I was told clearly what I could expect at worse. The court date arrives. They gave an offer, which Mr. Hamilton politely declined. I left with intentions of trial. 3 hours later I received a call and he told me my case was dismissed and to come handle the paperwork. With all of this being said, your attorney is only as good as your expectations. I would recommend Paul Hamilton to anyone seeking legal advice/council.

Paul brought me down from numerous felonies to just one. If you EVER, have any sort of legal issues at all, Paul Hamilton out of Nashville is who you need to call. I cant even begin to explain what a terrible situation I was in.. and for him to be able to pull off the deal he did says he is a hell of a lawyer. As bad of a situation I was in, and the charges I faced (which were not minor charges).. for him to be able to bring it down to what he did is absolutely amazing. Even with a DUI, I did not lose my license.. Not only did he save my future career, but he ensured that one single mistake did not ruin my life and turn my kids lives upside down. He stays dedicated to the case and truly cares for his clients. He will listen to what you need and he will go above and beyond to make it happen. You cannot go wrong with this attorney. I had so many bad charges and he made them as if they never happened. I can't begin to describe how easy he made the process

Paul was awesome from day 1! If you find yourself in trouble, especially in South Georgia, Mr. Hamilton is the man you want on your side! Had 4 felonies and 2 misdemeanors dropped to 1 felony. He was the perfect person for the job and I am very thankful for him. He is very caring and will hear you out and see your case through. A true blessing; now I can proceed with my life and job. What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
