I was trying to find help for my brother regarding a child support case. He had waited until the last minute and was completely unprepared for his court appearance, which was only a couple days away. I contacted the Chicago Bar and was referred to Joanne Bruzgul.
I was a little surprised when I actually reached someone on a Friday afternoon, and after explaining my situation to her Associate, I was told that Joanne would review the information, and I would get a call back if she was able to help. Amazingly, I got a call back that same day (after 5pm), and we spent a good half hour going over my brother's case.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get my brother to commit to using her services, but I was extremely grateful for the generous amount of time Joanne took to go through his options with me. Overall, I found Joanne to be professional, patient and very helpful.I was trying to find help for my brother regarding a child support case. he backstory is that my daughter's mother decided to move away and tried to take my daughter across the country away from me for no reason other than she wanted to move. I was involved in a long-term mess with my ex-spouse. Making matters worse, my ex-spouse’s attorney was non-responsive and extremely slow to do anything. I hired Bruce and the change was immediate. The day after I retained him, he sent letters and started the process of getting the case moving along. He also let me know the realistic outcomes that we may face along the way. Even more telling, he went above and beyond to let me know the best way to handle the matter so I was not spending too much money. His honesty, knowledge, and preparation was beyond my expectations. We had one court appearance and we achieved all of what we were going for. You could even tell Bruce has a great reputation as it seemed the judge was more inclined to listen to his position. When opposing counsel became desperate and began threatening us, Bruce responded immediately and let me know if it was anything we had to worry about. I can’t recommend him and his firm enough. They ended a 15-month nightmare and did so in a fair manner.

Not only did Brian have to confront an opposing party that was unwilling to compromise on any matter great or small, but he also had to cope with my peculiar circumstances--when I first retained him I was living and working in Southeast Asia--and with the chaos and uncertainty that the pandemic brought to legal processes and the court. I am forever in his debt for his exceptional perseverance in surmounting these many challenges, for his stout advocacy, good judgment, his compassion, and for the deployment of his extraordinary legal capabilities on my behalf. Brian is among the most impressive people I have met in any field.
Compassionate and non-judgmental, with an abundance of optimism and an unflappable disposition, Brian always responded quickly and trenchantly to the many emails I sent him. During these dark days that, as days do, accumulated to years, I had a tendency to write long, sprawling messages, only portions of which were legally relevant. Had Brian responded in full to every facet of these emails, I would have quickly been bankrupted. Instead, with an unerring capacity to separate the tangential from the essential, Brian unfailingly got to the legal heart of my messages, keeping us on task and saving me thousands of dollars. This is one small example among many of his superb judgment, his devotion to serving the best interests of his client even when the client in question (me!) could not see the forest for the trees. Brian Myers is the best attorney anyone can hire in Santa Cruz County. He has been my attorney for six years. This man knows the law and will fight for you with honesty and integrity. That may not be important to everyone, but it was, and still is, important to me. There is a reason why he is the Santa Cruz County Family Law Bar Association President. They chose well.
I met with Brian for a consultation 3 months before filing for divorce. I explained my dire circumstances and he listened. He didn't set a timer or watch the clock (like the others) and went well over the allotted time. Unlike some of the bottom feeders I met with, he showed compassion and I sensed this was a man who took his code of ethics seriously, which is very hard to come by with divorce attorneys. Let's face it, there's a special place in Hell for most of them. I told him I wasn't looking to hurt my soon-to-be ex-husband and he was okay with that. I thanked him for his time and left his office to consider what I would do.
Three months later, I knew I had no choice but to file for divorce. I called and asked to speak with him. He was surprised I was calling him at that time; not because he thought it would work it out, but because it took me 3 more months before I finally walked away from an impossible situation. His compassion was palpable. He asked for a very reasonable retainer and had my divorce filed and served within a week. There wasn't one hiccup.
My case inevitably became horribly ugly a few months later when an emergency custody request was necessary. He took care of everything and it was seamless. I then needed a Domestic Violence Restraining Order, which he secured for me for three years and then renewed for another five. I endured years of a custody/visitation battle with drug & alcohol testing, multiple reunification therapists, a move to a different county, etc. He's done it all for me. The bottom line: My kids are safe and I have Brian to thank for that.
The one thing that was (and still is) most important to me while fighting this fight is this: I want to be able to come out of this someday with my head held high. I want my kids to know, someday when they're old enough, that I did everything right. I never lied. I never stooped to the lows the other side did. That's important to me. Kids figure out on their own at some point what's going on, so don't play dirty. That's my first bit of advice to anyone reading this. My second bit of advice is this: Hire Brian. He will be there for you every step of the way. He'll get the job done and he'll do it right. If you want an attorney who will represent you effectively, ethically and efficiently, Brian Myers is your guy.

I was wrongly accused of a violation of the law that I did not commit.
I was extremely emotional, I dealt with anxiety and panic attacks. She did not judge me, she comforted although I was having emotional breakdowns. I was able to rely on her judgements, her sincerity and her efforts to fight.

Not enough can be said about Mr. Carter’s professionalism both in and out of the courtroom or in this case virtual court room. If you ever find yourself coming out of an extremely toxic relationship and end up in a bogus domestic violence situation do yourself a favor and contact Mr. Carter first. The staff at Hoffman Dimuzio is very friendly and caring. Mr. Carter himself went above and beyond for me and the unfortunate situation I was put in to make sure everything was dismissed. Before and after every trial he would call to touch base or recap and was prompt with answering questions and proving advice. I came in needing a lawyer and left with someone who felt like a friend or family member. His understanding of the laws and your needs exceeded my expectations. The most important thing for me was that Brian Karpf initially was very positive that he could help me reduce my permanent alimony. Brian explained to me the entire process and guided me through how the legal process would work.
Brian was very diligent about keeping my legal expenses as low as possible. Brian made sure that the Associate attorney's did as much of the leg work as possible.

I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with Pandora Palmer and her amazing team of professionals! My divorce was a long, drawn out, grueling two year process. I have been dealing with my custody matter since 2016/2017. I had worked previously with another attorney in my earlier years of Family Court, who I thought was a great experience at the time. After several years of stagnant custody, I tried to work on changing my custody order pro se against an attorney. To say I was destroyed by the system is an understatement. After some time of trying to fight my way back out of my situation, I interviewed with attorneys about my case, at all price ranges. I even met with the attorney in the state that is considered to be “The Best”. Actually, two different attorneys at that same firm. After all of this effort, I came across Vernon Vassallo. I met with him at his office for an interview/consultation. After laying out my case and talking with him for some time, I left his office feeling reassured and that someone actually saw and understood me. Later that evening after meeting with him, I received an email from Mr. Vassallo asking for more information. He stated something I told him about my case just wasn’t sitting well with him. That was the moment I knew, he was the one. He immediately started working on my case, from filings to exhibits. He made sharing information with him so easy, that I even asked him for advice on communication with the other party. Every time he was right there by my side when I needed him. He built an amazing case, he saw things I never would have saw. He brought perspectives to the table I would have never had. He organized everything perfectly and he beautifully prepared our filings, exhibits and case with a nice neat binder to take to trial. Scared from the previous experiences in family court, I expressed my feelings with him. He said, “It’s okay to be nervous, everyone’s nervous in the courtroom. The bailiffs are nervous. The attorneys are nervous. Even the judge is nervous. But don’t be scared.” To say I received what I wanted out of our trial, would be doing Mr. Vassallo a disservice.
