I would leave zero stars if I could. Empire came highly recommended from another law firm. Worst referral we have ever received. The Court Reporter showed up late for the zoom deposition and left her audio on the entire time with the tv playing in the background. We scheduled a 2 hour deposition for 4pm and Empire charge us almost double the hourly rate for after hour charges without letting us know there would be an additional fee. They corrected the invoice and when we paid it charged us the original amount of the invoice. I call and get disconnected or voicemail on a regular basis. This company has been very unprofessional and rude. I would recommend another court reporting service for your needs.

If I could leave a negative review, I absolutely would. My experience with Sharman and her team has been deeply disappointing. Despite being entrusted with my case for nearly a year, no meaningful progress was made, and the situation was made worse due to her lack of preparation and attention to detail.
Sharman clearly never took the time to study my case, which became evident through her repeated oversights and lack of understanding of critical details. Her inaction and carelessness have left me and my family in over $20,000 of debt. Worse, when I retained a new attorney, they discovered that critical documents—like the initial dissolution petition—were missing from the case file Sharman’s team provided.
The contrast between my new attorney and Sharman’s approach is stark. My new attorney is working diligently to fix the damage caused, and the difference is night and day. Sharman’s lack of care and effort has turned my case against me, which no client should have to endure.
I share this review not out of anger but to inform others of my experience. Single parents and vulnerable families deserve better than to be taken advantage of. Please do your research before retaining this attorney or firm.

Mr. Mor has been a very helpful and generous soul this weekend. I am currently on unemployment and my unscrupulous former employers decided to challenge my approved claim. Mr. Mor was a cold call and he informed me I did not need to hire him and he spent about 40 minutes counseling me why and explaining some tips. He then had me send over a 40 page document involving the case and gave me another complimentary consultation regarding his thoughts. WHAT LAWYER IN THE WORLD WOULD DO THIS ALL FOR FREE? We had no prior relationship I simply google'd him and he was this kind to me. He specializes in wrongful termination and EDD/unemployment matters. He was a bumbling incompetent attorney and I got what I paid for - bargain basement. If you have zero issues he may fumble his way through your case. Anything complex and it’s over his head and he’s out lawyered. I got a call from his assistant on another post I made asking what they can do before responding. Not only is he incompetent- he’s keen to blame everyone but himself and his poor skills. Lots of other attorneys to pick from. Don’t waste your time and money with this guy who can’t add up basic numbers.

We are extremely happy with the results Mr. Shapiro is always available phone/text/email, he has very much patience we are 5 sisters on a case of my mother and he would always have time for each one of us and never frustrated always calm and with a great answer he speaks great Spanish also and that helped a lot too because my mother only speaks Spanish, I would not want to have to deal with anything criminal again but if I was to I wouldn't think about it twice to hire Mr. Shapiro.

At 57 and having to deal with a few attorneys in my younger years, I didn't like any of them. I would say "I didn't like ANY attorney" because they ALL had the "better than anyone attitude", etc. I ALMOST didn't call an attorney; was just going to Public Defender & plea out because wasn't interested in an attorney just out for the money when they knew the "End Result" would be the same; however, at the suggestion of my bondsman, I decided to call & talk to Josh figuring nothing to lose by making the call. THANK GOD I made that call in May 2014; With 1 question from Josh I realized it was not that cut & dry; AND, I felt he was being honest, not just trying to suck a client in for money! I hired Josh. Since the beginning, I could feel his sincerity with my case. 1st time I can honestly say an attorney (Joshua Rydell) went above & beyond any expectations I ever had!! I had F3 & M1 charges; March 2017 (almost 3 years after arrest), F3 & M1, was amended to M1 only with 12 mos prob & possible off in 6 mos; total court & probation costs will be $318; AND all would have been thrown out due to the warrant if my employment time clocks had been working both days in question. From the beginning I told Josh I didn't want any charges, that I wanted everything just thrown out like nothing ever happened. Haha, right? Josh was thorough, detailed, creative, exceptionally knowledgeable with the laws (AN ASSET FOR ANY CLIENT), and never in a million years did I even expect the AWESOME outcome he got for me. He is even going to file for early release of Probation to get that over in the 6 months, as well as have the records sealed since adjudication withheld. I honestly can't say enough good about this attorney and how he really did save me from what could have ruined me personally & professionally. Now, after I do the probation and we go back, it will be as though nothing ever happened which is just as good as everything thrown out to me. He is VERY reasonable with his costs which is usually unheard of with attorneys, again, Joshua is just different. He has very rare qualities not usually seen in criminal attorneys. I will and would recommend this attorney, Joshua Rydell, to any friend or family member should they ever need representation with the utmost confidence they would receive the ABSOLUTE BEST legal representation possible!! He is truly the best and I thank the good Lord for helping me find my way to Joshua for help. I picked up William on a UBER ride and he was so cool ! I had servers probation violations and was getting know where in live besides inside jails and prisons. The judge had enough of me a order a fugitive warrant. I ended calling serval lawyers that said to turn yourself in and I couldn’t help you with the case. I thought for sure I would end up back in prison and when I get out return into my old habits. I hired John for a fire arm I was wrongly arrested for... John came to visit me In jail on a Sunday with sweats and a T-shirt I’m thinking ok he’s gonna say what he has to... do he begins to tell me how I never should have been arrested I. The first place and how by law the case has to get thrown out in preliminary, I’m thinking too good to be true, so I say to him “ Listen Man U don’t have to gas me up just be real with me “ he looks me dead in the eye and says I got 8 questions that’ll have this case dismissed!!! . This was a serious gun case and he seemed like it was a sp ending ticket. We went to trial and after about 5 questions the judge found me not guilty. I couldn't believe how easy he made it look.

Our eviction case pushed Curt & his co-counsel team to their limits in every way, & they pulled through w/ flying colors. Our case, while practically over in our favor, instead of being a normally 1 month long UD, still lingers on after ~8 months not because of Curt, but because our opponent was ruled to be one of the most mean/obstructive Landlord attorneys out there, w/ over 20 years experience, & have an endless dirty playbook they launch against tenants which puts them at the top of the list of infamous, notorious Landlord attorneys- they are also a high volume Landlord side firm w/ HUGE resources & they do everything possible to bury & overwhelm their opponent, to run up costs & force missed response deadlines. For the first 4 mo, just to keep up w/ them, Curt had to dedicate his complete resources to our case (virtually shutting down his legal practice). Curt was able to get each of their mean legal tactic stricken down, & then, icing on the cake, got the judge to slap them w/ one of the largest (if not the largest) sanctions (penalties, like contempt of court) ever for their mean/obstructive behavior. Judges almost never give much sanctions, so Curt (& team) winning us that monster one was no small feat.
I was present at many of his most important court motion hearings in our case, and closely read through the endless court hearing and deposition transcripts, digesting his responses, counter arguments, & lines of questioning. I could go on endlessly about all the twists & turns that he had to overcome, but suffice it to say that given our case has pushed all the boundaries of UD law/process, he has demonstrated himself to me to be an extremely competent, legally knowledgeable, adept, tenacious, & caring lawyer (& person). He has great instincts w/ the SF civil Judges, depositions, and real-time litigation strategy. W/ Judges, he’s actually very respectful, takes allot of abuse, rides the line to stay on their good side and builds a solid history and rapport. In depos, he’s got amazing instincts.
His instincts to discover criminal/foul play in physical evidence were also very impressive. I was also amazed at how he can dig into and own all the endless facts of our extremely complex case. Most all other attorneys would just gloss it over, and ignore/miss key (even hidden) evidence.
He also great on client communications stuff, and is very open to client input & guidance when helpful, yet is always polite and frank when it is not. He is extremely respectful, and has almost zero ego/elitist trips of most lawyers. No games or angles… he’s a strait shooter!
He knows his court procedure pretty well, and is a tenacious fighter. When it comes to fighting the most notorious landlord firms, he only takes clients that are willing (and able) to go all the way to jury trial, and we wanted a firm that had effectively scrapped w/ them before, and could handle jury trial. I had interviewed literally dozens of top notch attorneys (most billing $300 - $450/hr, and many were obvious rip offs, looking to take as much $ as possible, and don’t care about results), and even the most experienced in SF UD cases (e.g., 15-20+ yrs exp) had only gone to jury trial once, and the rest had no jury trial experience, just doing some bench trials, which is no good for the bogus nuisance UD case maliciously slapped on us. He has close co-counsel associates who fill in gaps where his is practice not as strong. In our case, he teamed up w/ Marc Branco to shore up UD law practice. So, that combined w/ his jury trial experience (and their hunger to kick their butt), is what sold me on their ‘dynamic duo’ to go up against them. His criminal law experience was very pertinent to our very (fact driven) nuisance UD case, and he’s adept at picking apart (hostile) witnesses an triangulating to converge on favorable facts to the case.
So, in sum, I can vouch that Curt (& team) are very competent re UD legal practice, highly ethical, they get results.

We hired Nick Thornton, for our son who was facing Class C Felony charges. Nick was professional, kind honest and truly interested in a good outcome for our son. Our son made a plea deal to serve 6 years. Nick was there for him every step of the way. He answered all of our questions too, and explained things to us clearly and in a manner we could easily understand. I first reached out to Nick because of his resume on Avvo. When comparing to other lawyers in the area on this metric, he was a no brainer. For context, I hired him in regards to a drug case. Leading up to my final court date, we had not reached an agreement with the prosecutor and because of this I was facing nine months in jail. Coming into that final day there was a lot of uncertainty, but Nick consistently assured me of his confidence on the law. Although I had my doubts, he came prepared and had certainly done his homework in regards to my specific case. Through extensive argument in court, the judge deemed Nick to be correct and the jail time was reduced to probation. Without him I would likely be writing this review nine months from now. I was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly making threats in the workplace. This event never took place, as I was miles away from the office building at the time when this alleged (fictional) event took place. The allegations was made by a clerical staff with whom I have little contact. There were no witnesses. This delusional fabrication was probably orchestrated by my boss who felt too much competition coming from me, and wanted to have unlimited power. Amazingly, DA's Office decided to pursue the case without an iota of material or any other evidence, based solely on the allegation made by a secretary who has many personal and family issues, a very unhappy and bitter person. Nick collected all the facts, interviewed right people in preparation for the trial. He had several consultations with me, and prepared me well for the case. During the trial, Nick was eloquent, forceful but respectful. It was clear very early in the trial that the only outcome possible will be favorable to me. Nick dominated the trial as a lawyer. I would strongly recommend Mr. Nick Thornton as a criminal attorney to anyone in need of such legal assistance. He is a wonderful communicator, open, and never sugarcoating.
