Hook and bait. Overpriced. Charges for everything single second, even for bathroom breaks. The lawyer is old as stone and slow. He coughs dust. Forgets things and should have retired 6 years ago. He’s not flexible with dates since he has early bedtimes and naps. Save yourself time and money. Go find yourself a younger lawyer with more stamina.

The lawyer didn't look at the dashcam of the police. I was mentally ill, going in and out of the rehab for Schizophrenia and had a car crash. The police wrote completely wrong details about the incident like I was in the car and they had to drag me out, when in reality I was waiting outside the car after I had the crash. If he wanted he could have had the case dismissed, but he convinced my family for the plea deal. Since I was newly on medicine and didn't have my mental illness in control I signed the plea. Now I have a misdemeanor. Like you know how lawyers represent you and find an angle to fight your case, this guy never did that.

Our first visit with Mr Lafay gave us something we had not experienced from previous Lawyers Confidence that he would do all that's in his power to help our situation. Their wasn't one question I could think of that he didn't answer with no problem, we felt a sense of security that we was surely in the right place, this was our first visit We knew within a instant that we was in the right place, right lawyer, for the Job, he gave us 100% confidence that he would work hard and stay dedicated to working hard to resolve this case, in the beginning he told us he would file some paperwork that was done, never did I had to call him up or check to see if the job was done he's a man of his WORD, we are truly satisfied with Mr. Lafay: I truly encourage anyone in need of a lawyer too seek Mr. Lafay office you won't be Disappointed.

First of all let me start by saying that i was legitimately guilty.im pretty sure thats the first thing i told him.i have already been to prison for 5 years for manufacturing meth and delvery and sales of that same meth. Then i got charged with the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Let me mention they had a confession. However forced. They had it and the judge allowed it.hear this next part loud and clear for you real criminals who read this.minmum mandatory for this charge is 3 years in prison.that means by law i can get no less than 3 years but thats exactly what happened. The way he operates in a courtroom is amazing.they changed prosecutors 3 times because in hearings he made them look like beginners. Until they got their best guy.a real hard ass for wanting to win.and in the end i did 6 hours in jail.he sent his personal bail bondsman to the jail and had my bail posted with no money. Yes .u read this right.he also took my case on payments. And when i fell behind he let me work off some cash.who does this?no one right.well the classy people at the nejame law firm did that but more specifically mike lafay did this..also i never had to take off work for court in this year long process.i think i went a total of three times.in the end i got four years probation after the case was over and i was serving my probation he continued to be my attorney. He filed for early term two times at no extra charge.and i have been a free man for two months now.i have gained my freedom and a friend from one bad ass lawyer.#superman @ Michael Lafay. I truly beleive if had any other attorney i would have been sent back to prison on the express line.

I engaged this law firm two years ago for a custody case, initially paying $2500. Unfortunately, circumstances escalated, leading us to pursue emergency custody. The firm advised an additional $1500 payment, bringing the total to $4000. However, the process stalled as our lawyer, who was preparing to run for Supreme Court judge, left us waiting. We feel neglected and robbed, especially considering that we are being told that for anything else to be done, it’ll be an additional $1000 on top of what we’ve already paid. Moreover, we discovered that our lawyer that took our case, has ties with the opposing party, engaging in undocumented conversations. This has added a layer of distrust and frustration. Furthermore, we’ve been informed that our lawyer failed to address a violation of the temporary custody agreement by the other party. When confronted, he merely stated, “I will speak with them,” leaving us without the necessary legal action. I caution others to exercise caution and thoroughly vet legal representation to avoid similar challenges. The lack of transparency, additional financial burden, and apparent disregard for violations have been deeply disappointing.

I was arrested for DUI in Dec 2014 in Collin County. I think I got a hold of him in January 2015. He kept pushing back my case and kept telling me they may have some veteran aid coming up in the county and to just hold on. In short, he pushed back my trial to fight it to January 2016! That is when I found out insurance, work, ect all go off the date of conviction, not the date of incident. Joel knew this and never told me. DUIs take a while to recover from and this added a year to the process for me. If I knew the date of conviction was what insurance and jobs went off of, I would have set my trial date as soon as possible. I felt extremely mislead by Joel.

Mr. Eric McKinley handled an extremely complicated legal matter for our family. After fourteen months of very nerve-wracking discussions we were able to shake hands with the opposing lawyer, and walk away with a sense of relief. Mr. McKinley handled the entire legal process with great skill and patience. We always had direct and constant communication with him by way of phone calls, emails, and most importantly one-on-one meetings to discuss the progress of our case. Mr. McKinley demonstrated a true compassion and understanding for all parties involved. He was the answer to our prayers. It was the best money we ever spent! Thank you kindly, Mr. McKinley!

From day one, it was clear that Barry not only possesses an incredible depth of legal knowledge but also has a sharp instinct for knowing the best course of action in every situation. His ability to craft precise strategies while navigating complex legal issues is truly impressive. At every turn, Barry had a well-thought-out plan and was always a step ahead, ensuring the best possible outcome for my case. What truly sets Barry apart, though, is his kind and approachable demeanor. He genuinely cares about his clients, treating you with respect, empathy, and patience. No matter how stressed I was, Barry always had a calm, reassuring presence, taking the time to explain each step in a way that made me feel confident and at ease. His combination of sharp legal strategy and warm personality is a rare find in the legal world. Barry Kaplan is not only an exceptional attorney but also a genuinely nice person who is deeply committed to his clients. If you're looking for someone who will fight for you with both intelligence and compassion, Barry is the one to trust. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

Michael Root failed to provide me with adequate representation in a Retaliation Against a Judge case. The witness (alleged victim Judge) had provably lied on the witness stand, and Mr. Root, more concerned about preserving his career than seeking justice, threw me under the bus: the official Court transcript vs. the actual evidence on the record of the Court proves this. Not recommended.

*trigger warning* (DV) Soooo, I am curious - Last year, I chose out of an insanely complex domestic violence situation. Unfortunately, it took two moves and fleeing to a shelter to get away. The first apartment that I left in 2023, was in the middle of management changes when I had to leave - The management that was leaving was made aware that there had been domestic violence, that I had somewhere else to go, and that I needed to leave - But I was not getting emails or calls back, and the office was closed for extended periods of time, etc... Because of the severity of the situation and the urgency to create safety for my family, I ended up leaving, and moving into housing. In November, I got a letter in the mail from The Law Offices of Kirk A. Cullimore, suing me for breaking the lease. They want almost $10K from me. I know VAWA is a federal law and the most recent time that I had to leave my housing unit, the management just gave me some papers to fill out and then they moved me to a new place. I got approved for Victims of Crime assistance in June last year, but I didnt know that I would be receiving an almost $10K lawsuit for breaking my lease due to domestic violence. Sometimes those offices help with relocation costs- But I didnt ask for that at that time because I didnt have this then. My offender is currently in jail, and I am working to get a protective order and legally change my name, however... In the meantime, I have a lawsuit coming at me for 10K that if I had, I still wouldnt give them. I really need some guidance here, because it kinda feels like theyre harrassing me, but I dont know my rights.

These are hands down the best lawyers period! You talking about a lawyer who knows the law and fights for her clients , this is the one. She and her husband did what seemed to be impossible for us , she made it happen. She is like a lawyer that you see on movies that really fight for people and don't stop. When you look up the definition of a real lawyer , they should be in that definition of what a true lawyer is and does. If you want a lawyer to just answer your calls and tell you what you want to hear , maybe not the one , but if you want a lawyer that may not have time to answer you all the time because she is fighting for you and working for you and getting stuff done , she is the best. When she calls you it's going to be with information and results and facts. Again hands down the best sent from heaven lawyers around. They are awesome and the best at what they do !!!!! Words can't express really how great they are and how great they are at what they do!!! Just absolutely amazing lawyers and people in general!!

Mr. Brown talks a great game about what he can do for you, but does not deliver on his promises or his word. Roland Brown was paid in full (5 figures), which was definitely a waste of money, might as well have flushed the money down the toilet. And trying to make contact with him or have him to make contact with the family or his client, was totally USELESS! The couple of times that he did visit our family member, I believe he was there to see someone else and decided to grace our family member with his presence, which was only to tell him that he did not have his laptop and would come back to discuss his case, of course he never returned. The only time that our family member saw Roland Brown was in court and there were several postponements due to Roland Brown not being available, like going to Las Vegas with no prior notice that he would not be present in court, so of course, there was another postponement. Roland Brown was given evidence for the trial which actually sat in his briefcase for days before he had to be reminded that he had it. What good attorney forgets that he was given evidence! He then tried to look at the evidence which turned out to be garbage and could not be reviewed by his office. The evidence had to be requested again and that took months, another postponement! More time wasted! And trying to make contact with Roland Brown was so frustrating, we would leave messages and send emails and the response from his office would be that "the information would be forwarded to Roland Brown" and the family and his client, our family member would hear nothing from him. Roland Brown would also set up appointments to discuss the case with the family and would be a no show, with a call while we are at his office waiting for him, that something came up and he could not make it! This happened on several occasions! Roland Brown has not only missed multiple appointments with the family, he has missed multiple appointments with his client, our family member. Additionally, Roland Brown was made aware of another suspect in my family members case and he just sat on the information and never brought it up in court. This information could have helped our family member with his case! Roland Brown has clients that he works much much harder for. I say this to say that if you want an attorney that will work hard for your family member and honor the oath that he took, DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!! If you are NOT one of his special clients, prepare to go to jail.

Was inexperienced with my case, took my money and didn’t hear from him again until the day of court, only to find out he was requesting a postponement due to his license being suspended. When he did come to court the next scheduled time, he threw together his argument 15 mins before the court time. Ineffective communication, you have to chase him down to get a response and he half way explains what’s going on. Please, don’t make the mistake I made. Hire someone else

I have nothing but nice things to say about Mr. Rajek . He was kind, professional, and highly knowledgeable. It is obvious why I was referred to him for my OWI . This was a first for me and I had no clue as to the process in court etc. His office remained in close contact and helped walk me through the process. My case is closed now and I was very happy w/ the outcome. Mr. Rajek did an outstanding job ..highly recommend his services !

Attorney Rajek worked very hard to help me with a speeding ticket. He helped me immensely, and I think that the last review should not be taken to heart. It was my experience that Mr. Rajek did his job with integrity and professionalism. I was very happy with the work he did and would highly recommend his services.

I had received a spending ticket in Eau Claire, being from Illinois and already having two on my record in a year, I could not have another moving violation or else my license would be suspended. So, I definitely needed some legal representation to get the speeding ticket dropped to a non moving violation. Being from out of the area I had no idea where to turn. So did a Google search and came across Mr Rajek. The secretary was very responsive and took my information, as well as understood the importance of the matter. I know nothing is a 100% but it was a speeding ticket and could be worked down to a simple non moving violation. His services ended up running me $500. He did absolutely nothing but drop it down a level. I still ended up paying the ticket as well as his legal fees. Not being from the area I had no idea what was going on in the case and his contact with me was minimal at best. My case actually just kept getting delayed cause he kept moving the court date. I finally got a notice in the mail from Eau Claire regarding my fines. (That's how I found out the verdict) Consequently, I lost my license for 6 months. From there I contacted them and explained what happened. I would call and email numerous times and would only get his legal assistant, and was informed that he would do what he could to change the verdict and drop my ticket to a non moving violation. I finally got a hold of Mr Rajek and explained myself and he then tried to get the ticket dropped but at that point it was to late. His demeanor over the phone was very unprofessional, from there I could deduct why I got the results I did. My experience with Mr Rajek (as well as my own fault in previous tickets) ended up costing me a suspension on my license. I am very unhappy in the way he conducted my case as well as business. In short, it was a waste of my time and cost me a lot more than the money I wasted on his legal services.

I hired Veronica White for a very simple case dealing with domestic violence, where I had 209A's in place. Against my wishes, she refused to let me testify, and insisted on a bench trial. The results were disastrous because she did not want to spend the time. I had been victimized many times, and knew what I was doing, yet Veronica did not allow me my due process.

There's a lot of positive things I can say about Veronica White but I will keep it as short as possible. What I can say is that she is the absolute best lawyer I've ever met and she's a fierce fighter and believer in her clients and proven their innocence. Veronica has successfully vacated a case I had that was hanging over my head for 10 years that would have led to lengthy separation from my family and for that I'm eternally grateful. I still remember the day we met and she took over my case. She looked me in the eye and told me not to stress as she will move mountains to win my case and that's exactly what she did. If you're wise enough to hire this lady just know you have made a very smart decision. Sincerely, Rich

I hired Charles (Chuck) to deal with a speeding ticket I received in Lakeview Arkansas. The town is a bit of a speed trap and has very few residents, but can pay quite a bit for their police vehicles it seems. Regardless, I was speeding and given a ticket. I contacted Chuck to handle my case and he did a great job. The City of Lakeview was very non-responsive so when it came down to a court date he listened to my concerns and drove there to the clerk's office in the small town of Lakeview to try and correct the problem. At that point, they were even saying I was failing to appear at court after he had mailed them and been trying to contact them. The City of Lakeview should be ashamed for being unprofessional and not following the legal process as they should be. Chuck got the case taken of and I'd hire him again if I ever ran into a legal issue in Arkansas. A+

I gave him money to start paperwork for an emergency custody hearing, and still will not return my calls or emails. (This has been more than 6 months) His phone was even been disconnected for a short time and I assumed he disappeared and still no response!!! He also filed paperwork with the court for contempt against my ex-husband for non payment and he never followed up with that case either!!! Why aren't more people upset?!?!?!

My wife and I were basically thrown into his lap by default. This is one of the best things that ever happened to us. If you can go through life never needing a attorney that's great. If you find yourself in need, Charles R Chadwick has been a GREAT family lawyer for us. He has proven to be a powerful litigator, balanced with a likability in court which in our experience wins cases!!! The last time we were in court ( 7/22/2013 ) with Charles, the Defendant told us the only reason we won was because, quote ... "You had a better attorney". Indeed !!!

Andres did nothing in the case of my son. He took over the case from Ashely Whitham, who was doing a terrible job and Andres continued on with it. He scared my son so bad that he took a plea deal that he never should have taken just so Andres did not have to work to help my son with his case. Do not use Andres if you want to be treated fairly and have a positive outcome to your case. Do not use Andres if you do not have the money to pay him because money is his main motivation, if you do not have any, you lose. Do not use if you expect him not to work with the prosecuting attorney to throw the book at you. Does not keep your best interests to heart will only use you to further his career. Do not use unless you want to lose your case.

Failed to effectively communicate with me. Mr. Reynosa allowed inaccurate information presented by prosecutor to harm me. Did not correct factual errors of my PSI. During the sentencing phase, he did not advocate on my behalf. Did not mention favorable or mitigating factor as well. The billing is highly questionable. Me and my family are extremely disappointed. I'd advise caution to anyone looking for representation from this attorney.

Jeff was the perfect person I needed to talk to! My case was a little complicated because we are planning to move so my best option was to start my process with someone where we’re moving to. I got all my questions answered and he guided me to the right direction I needed to go. He was able to throw out some name, numbers and where I can look to do my own research. I appreciated how well he was able to explain everything and his time.

What a Federal Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A federal crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals or organizations accused of violating federal laws. These lawyers have experience navigating the complex federal criminal justice system, which includes higher penalties, stricter sentencing guidelines, and a different court system than state-level crimes. Federal crime lawyers defend clients against a wide range of charges, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, fraud, conspiracy, gun violations, and more. They assist in every phase of the legal process, from investigation to trial and appeals, ensuring their clients' rights are protected.

If you’re facing federal criminal charges, a federal crime lawyer can provide the necessary defense and expertise to navigate the complexities of federal law and achieve the best possible outcome.

When Should I Hire a Federal Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a federal crime lawyer in any situation where you are under investigation or have been charged with a federal crime. Key scenarios include:

  • Charged with a federal crime: If you’ve been charged with a federal offense, such as drug trafficking, wire fraud, money laundering, or conspiracy, hiring a federal crime lawyer is essential to ensure your defense is tailored to federal court procedures and laws.
  • Target of a federal investigation: If you are being investigated by federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, or IRS, it’s crucial to retain a lawyer early on. A lawyer can help you avoid self-incrimination and build a defense strategy to counter the investigation.
  • White-collar crimes: If you’ve been accused of federal white-collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading, a lawyer can help defend you against charges brought by federal prosecutors and regulatory agencies like the SEC.
  • Drug-related charges: If you’re facing federal drug charges, such as possession, distribution, or trafficking of controlled substances, a lawyer can represent you in federal court and negotiate plea deals or challenge the prosecution’s case.
  • Gun-related offenses: If you’ve been charged with federal gun crimes, including illegal possession, trafficking, or using a firearm during a violent crime, a federal crime lawyer can help defend against harsh federal penalties.
  • Immigration-related crimes: Federal charges involving immigration violations, such as human trafficking, smuggling, or illegal re-entry after deportation, require specialized legal knowledge of both federal criminal law and immigration law.
  • Appeals: If you’ve been convicted of a federal crime and are seeking to appeal the conviction or sentence, a federal crime lawyer can assist with the appeals process, focusing on legal errors or issues that may have occurred during the trial.

Hiring a lawyer as soon as you know you are under investigation or charged with a federal crime gives you the best chance of protecting your rights and building a strong defense.

What Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Do?

A federal crime lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to defend individuals and organizations accused of federal crimes. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Defending clients in federal court: Federal crime lawyers represent clients in all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Building a defense strategy: Lawyers thoroughly investigate the charges, review the prosecution’s evidence, and develop a defense strategy tailored to the unique aspects of federal law and sentencing guidelines.
  • Negotiating plea deals: In some cases, a lawyer may negotiate with federal prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties, potentially avoiding a lengthy trial and reducing sentencing.
  • Handling federal investigations: If you are the subject of a federal investigation, a lawyer will guide you on how to interact with federal agents, respond to subpoenas, and handle potential interrogations, ensuring your rights are not violated.
  • Filing pre-trial motions: Federal crime lawyers can file motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or challenge the legality of the investigation or arrest, aiming to weaken the prosecution’s case before trial.
  • Representing clients in appeals: If you’ve been convicted, a federal crime lawyer can represent you in the appeals process, focusing on legal errors, misconduct, or constitutional issues that may have affected the trial’s outcome.
  • Managing sentencing and post-conviction matters: Lawyers also help clients during the sentencing phase, arguing for leniency or alternatives to imprisonment, and assist with post-conviction matters such as parole or supervised release violations.

How Are Federal Crime Lawyers Paid?

Federal crime lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected time commitment. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many federal crime lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the case complexity, and geographic location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as negotiating a plea deal or representing you during the initial stages of a federal investigation, some lawyers offer a flat fee. Flat fees for federal criminal defense cases often range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Retainer: In complex federal cases, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers a portion of the legal work. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as they work on the case. Retainers typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the case.
  • Payment plans: Some federal crime lawyers may offer payment plans, especially if the case involves extended litigation or lengthy appeals. This can help make legal fees more manageable over time.

It’s crucial to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to understand the total cost of representation and how payments will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a federal crime lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Federal crime lawyers generally charge between $300 and $1,000 per hour. For example, if a lawyer charges $500 per hour and spends 50 hours on your case, the total cost would be $25,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as negotiating a plea deal, flat fees can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the seriousness of the charges and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Retainers: In more complex or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer of $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the case’s scope and complexity.
  • Appeals: If you’re appealing a federal conviction, legal fees for an appeal can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the issues being raised and the length of the appellate process.

In addition to legal fees, you may also need to cover additional costs such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Federal Crime Lawyer

Before hiring a federal crime lawyer, it’s essential to ask key questions to ensure they have the necessary experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with federal cases?
Ensure the lawyer has extensive experience handling federal criminal cases, particularly those similar to yours, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, or gun violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost of your defense.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including plea deals, dismissals, or trial strategies.
  4. What is your approach to defending federal cases?
Ask how the lawyer plans to approach your defense, including potential pre-trial motions, negotiations with federal prosecutors, or trial strategies.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Ask whether the lawyer thinks your case will settle out of court through a plea deal or whether it’s expected to go to trial, and how the lawyer will prepare for either scenario.
  6. How long will my case take?
Federal cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer for an estimated timeline, from investigation to trial or settlement.
  7. What are the possible penalties if convicted?
Ask about the potential penalties you could face if convicted, including prison time, fines, or other consequences, and how the lawyer plans to mitigate those penalties.

How to Check the Credibility of a Federal Crime Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable federal crime lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Look for federal crime experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in federal criminal defense and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on federal cases.
  • Check for federal court admissions: Make sure the lawyer is admitted to practice in federal court, as federal criminal cases are handled in federal district courts.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a federal crime lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Information about the charges or investigation: Provide any documents related to the charges against you, such as indictments, subpoenas, or notices of investigation. This helps the lawyer assess the severity of the charges and the potential defense strategy.
  • Details of previous interactions with federal agents: If federal agents have contacted you or conducted searches, provide a detailed account of those interactions, including search warrants, interrogations, or evidence seized.
  • Questions about your case: Prepare a list of questions regarding the legal process, potential outcomes, and how the lawyer plans to defend you.
  • Relevant financial information: If your case involves financial crimes or assets that may be at risk, bring relevant financial records, such as bank statements, business records, or tax returns.
  • Previous legal history: If you have a prior criminal record or have been involved in federal investigations before, bring details about those cases.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal defense for your federal case.
