Jamerson Godsey has done an amazing job and was well prepared on very short notice! I currently have 3 consolidated cases going on. He kept in touch with me throughout the process. He definitely fights hard for his clients. I’m sure I’m not the only client/case he has, but he make me feel like I’m his only client. I would hate to be on the opposing side of Mr. Godsey. I am confident about my future hearing with him as my attorney.

Erin is the best of the best. She kept my interests and priorities as her top priority. While the lawyer for the other side fumbled around with disheveled paperwork. Erin coolly and calmly was totally organized and merely had to thumb through her binders to the exact information needed. I felt honored, privileged and PROUD of her professional representation.

Mike did an amazing job in a very lengthy divorce which ended in Trial. Mike knew the case like the back of his hand, with 346 pleadings. Mike listened to what I wanted, This man is brilliant. My 2 children moved with mom 150 miles away during the course of my divorce, a devastating fact. I am now a man in Washington state who has primary custody. I am very grateful for Mr. McGrath.

Scott Help me through a very rough patch in my life. I needed to work through a marriage fraught with trials and challenges. He did not encourage me to hurry and get a divorce, rather he encouraged me to do several things to save the marriage. I followed his advice and in the end he did help me with the divorce process, but by the time we did that, I was well prepared for the end. I knew that everything possible had been tried, and having tried many, many solutions gave me insight into the situation that I otherwise would never have known. My ex-wife was married to me but she was in love with someone else. Had we filed for divorce right away, I would have ended up in a much worse situation. Having waited until the more complete story came out put me in a great position to keep the children with full custody. I get to stay in the family home and the money I earned goes to support the family not to support someone who is untrustworthy. During the time I was trying to put things back together, I found out about secret banking accounts, real estate, and other possessions that were part of her life but not mine. Scott helped me understand why she pushed so hard for some things (mostly financial.) She pushed hard for all of the things we owned together to be put into a family trust which for some reason didn't include me. She said that because we were married in reality I was a member of the trust. She wanted access to my bank account, but refused to allow me to even go into her bank with her. When it came time for the financial statements to be filed, I had the information needed to confront her about the assets that she had and had not declared. Due to the lack of her disclosure it was clear that she was not telling the truth and therefore had no credibility with the judge. The judge looked much more favorably at the arguments we presented even though the truth of my position was not always pretty, it was the truth. I had given Scott all of the ugly details of the marriage, so there were no surprises for him during negotiations or when we got to court.

One of the two best intellectual property attorneys I've been associated with in my 50 years of business experience. Michelle pleaded our case concerning a trademark that was deemed by the trademark officer to be too similar in definition as to be an infringement. She convinced the reviewing officer that we would not be infringing and consequently we received our registered mark for the product. In another instance she negotiated a co-existance agreement that could have cost us the trademark of our flagship product and, even convinced the other party to pay most of our legal expense.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am to you and your staff. My move away situation was horrible and I didn’t know what to expect. But after meeting with you, I knew I had found the best possible person to represent me. You were honest, telling me the truth about my case, good and bad. You prepared me for a potentially hard and long battle. Your team was so thorough and detailed oriented, while updating me every step of the way, responding to my emails right away, addressing my concerns clearly and compassionately. Because of your amazing work, I finally got divorced. Olesya, you truly have given me my second chance at a happy life. I now get to start over and I could not have done it without you. I am indebted to you and hope you know how thankful I am to have met you, hired you and followed your advices all along. You were the light in my dark tunnel. Thank you Robert and Valerie. Thank you thank you thank you!

Ms. Boykin represented my son and our family during a custody case involving his sons. I had to hire an attorney because the mother had taken the boys to another state and we lost contact with them for 6 months. A private investigator was hired and found the boys within days - which got the mother (and boys) back here and Ms. Boykin started working on preparing for a custody hearing. I don't know if the judge was simply "real" mad at the mother, if Ms. Boykin is a super great attorney or a combination of both - I suspect it was both but we ended up with a better custody agreement than we thought possible. This grandma is very pleased that she is now spending lots of time with her grands! In case you want to know what the agreement was: every weekend, half of summer/winter vacation, every other year for tax deductions, equal division of holidays, notification of school events and if the mother takes the boys out of state without notifying my son - he gets custody. They share evenly the cost of medical expenses. The mother also has to provide a way for the boys to phone their father and not interfere with them doing so.

I was referred to junker and Shotto by a existing law firm that I was using in Scranton at the time Mike Shotto was asked to help on my case in an attempt to straighten out the legal mess that I had gotten into with moving from the area. Before the custody hearing was heard when I relocated back to Oklahoma my ex has been on very amicable terms and was Allowing me to leave the state with the children he later objected. The petitions were not file correctly from another law firm. Mike jumped in and busted his butt to fix all the mistakes. I was granted custody of my children in the petition to relocate was granted as well. Mike was awesome he shook my hand and promised to help me and that's excactly what he did.

Barbra was very helpful in my legal situation. I had a traffic citation that I needed assistance with. Both her and her paralegal were very respectful and helpful, and knew about the case. They were able to get the citation dropped, and removed from my record. Also too, they took payments due to my financial situation. I would recommend them to anyone.

Mr Messervy and his assistant Autumn Hazy helped me in a disastrous case where I was being asked to show cause by my ex husband, who had resurfaced after being absent for several years. My anxiety was through the roof, but Ms Hazy's excellent communication and Mr. Messervy's calm wisdom kept me grounded. Things escalated during the hearing and many other issues came up. Mr. Messervy won me back all of my attorney fees and travel expenses. Just amazing!

Jasmine represented me in a custody case regarding my 12 year old where his father was requesting a drastic change in the visitation we have had for most of my son’s lie. I had a lot of anxiety surrounding this process and felt very uneducated and unprepared. Jasmine put my mind at ease from the beginning and guided me each step of the way to help me feel as prepared as possible. I had a lot of questions and she took time to answer each one. She did an excellent job advocating for me and my son and presenting my case to show the drastic change being requested would be detrimental to my son. In the end, our custody and visitation remained the same. If I ever find myself in this situation again, she will be my first phone call!

Sarah Mcrae Robinson William's is an angel! I met Sarah while picking up a copy of my custody agreement from the county court. It was a troubling time for me, a time that I needed help like never before. Sarah must have sensed my troubles. She spoke with me freely about my options, and my rights as a father, and offered to consult with me for free with no strings attached. We met about a week later, had coffee, and talked for what seemed to be hours about everything and anything. My wife and I decided to retain Sarah, and she immediately got to work on our behalf. Communication was always prompt, emails and text were always returned, and she only offered realistic results. Her honesty about our situation was refreshing. We had been promised things before from others that didn't deliver. Sarah was able to work with the opposing lawyer and negotiate terms that were in the best interest of my daughter. She was also able to bring two feuding sides to an agreement that would encourage co parenting. It's been nearly a year since the resolution to our case, but Sarah still checks on us, and she has also given my advice on other matters. She even threw in an estate plan for us free of charge! I cannot thank her enough.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
