Dylana Jones of Wakefield Legal was an excellent (and triumphant) advocate for me regarding a particularly challenging DVPO case involving a narcissistic abuser with a JD. She is kind, responsive, sympathetic and genuine beyond being highly skilled and capable in many areas. 10/10 Highly recommend.

If I could, I’d humbly provide Tammy with the Universe of stars. Tammy Mercado is a miracle-working Super Hero! She did in less than 10 days what my four prior “top rated” greedy, patronizing lawyers could not even comprehend over multiple years. Unlike all of my other attorneys, she didn’t take advantage of my massive distress to treat me like an ATM. I never say this kind of thing but, I truly felt like she was a best friend, a sister even, in lock-step who fought fearlessly for me when I had no fight left to give. My goals and her goals were One. She clearly and kindly reminded me of my real goals when I got blind-sided and upset. She kept everyone in line including my ex’s devious attorney and got the job done faster than Flash, the Marvel character who travels faster than the speed of light. The other “top-rated” attorneys just patted me on the head, some offered thoughts and prayers. All of them told me to basically do nothing and wait. despite that my health and credit score - due to their abuse and exploitive fees - were rapidly collapsing. Tammy achieved more with me in our first quick call than a allegedly super star attorney took $45,000 in fees and over 9 months to Not Comprehend, despite that divorce should have been easy, it was just assets, no children. After 2+ years of pure hell with those “top-rated” thieves, I was panicked, traumatized and often inconsolable. Tammy handled me with the greatest of care both efficiently and highly effectively. She was tough on me when I really wanted to fight losing battles. She always had the perfect and reasonable quip to say to inspire me when I succumbed to doom and gloom. She had more compassion in one sentence then all of the other $700 attorneys did with their endless, expensive and exploitive proverbial pats on the head, with no sense of direction or purpose. The fact that Tammy could do all that and get conceptual agreement with the devious other side in less than a week was ecstatically surreal. My ex’s attorney usually took weeks to acknowledge receipt of an email. Then at least another four weeks to hurl epithets, throw tantrums and chip away agreements that were already made. Him doing the red lines was like a very hot walk starting in purgatory. None of that stopped Tammy from bringing him to his knees and tackling him him so we can get the deal done! He was so caught off guard that he had to take a sudden vacation to drag it out and come up with new tricks. Not only was she running circles like Flash Gordon around him, she also runs circles around any of the best attorneys you can find in San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay and Marin. To my own shock, with her representing me now, I honesty want and am confident enough to restart the entire process because I know I would get a lot more benefit, relief and joy going through this with her.

I would like to express my appreciation to Whipple, Mercado & Associates LLP. I knew I was going with them as soon as I hung up after our consultation. The whole thing was so scary just because I don't know anything about family law and the whole process can be completely overwhelming and intimidating. Every time I spoke with Tammy or Mary it was reassuring. All interactions with them and the paralegals were encouraging. The court process was the best. That was so scary and Mary totally nailed it. She said all the right things at all the right times. I'm incredibly grateful and highly recommend Whipple, Mercado & Associates LLP. I'm. Because of their hard work, my brother has a shot at happiness and might have saved his life.

I can honestly say that Mary Whipple made this experience comfortable and easy! I put off going to court for many years for child custody orders etc. The main reason was fear. Mary put my my fears to rest. She was honest, very knowledgeable, gave great advice, fought hard for me and my family! She is kind, and wants the best outcome for all involved. Mary is very skilled, and up to date on child custody, support and mediation. Mary offered ideas that worked for me in the end. I am so pleased to have had Mary represent me in court. I would 100% refer anyone to her.

After he got his retainer he did nothing. No document production, no motion to get documents from prior counsel. Seven months. He told me nothing. He even tried settling my case without my knowledge. I know because I saw his email from another counsel. He must have made a deal with the other side without my knowledge because he harmed me terribly in my case.

Doug has worked on my case tirelessly for over a year. His knowledge of the law and consideration of an exceedingly delicate situation has been extraordinary. He has both been incredibly professional and personable. I would recommend Doug to anyone who is in need of someone that is both caring and requires an attorney who is well-versed in the nuances of the law. In my case, Doug was able to change a seemingly impossible situation - an "onion that needed to be peeled layer by layer" as he put it. He is very thoughtful of the fact that my ex is extremely abusive and helped prepare me for what abusers typically make their next steps. In doing so, I have been better able to care for my children in devastating circumstances. He also has helped me better understand the legal process and what is typical vs atypical in the court room. Having that background, the legal jargon and proceedings were easier to comprehend in what has previously been very overwhelming. While my case is not finished yet, I expect Doug to keep fighting with the veracity and intelligence that he has exhibited thus far and will post again at the conclusion of my case! I think the best I can say so far is thank you for everything Doug!

I had an attorney and was not happy with her services. I consulted several lawyers, all of whom wanted my case for a significant retainer. I consulted with Mr. Barics who reviewed my case, and said that my current counsel was properly representing me. He explained in detail what should be done and what to do if the judge didn't do what she was supposed to do. I was ready to change lawyers, and Mr. Barics was high on the list. However, his honesty in telling me to stay with my current counsel and declining to accept a large retainer is worthy of mention. I stayed with my existing attorney, and the case proceeded nearly exactly how Mr. Barics predicted it would. I did not retain Mr. Barics then, but I am impressed he would decline a client when he felt the client was properly represented with current counsel. My former attorney has since retired and if I need new counsel Mr. Barics would be my first choice.

The circumstances of my case were such that they required a minor level of effort to approach the nuances of the situation. From my conversations with other Santa Barbara lawyers, in my first case he could have pushed for a better decision through increased communication and effort with the District Attorney. When I received a DUI, a more serious offense than my first charge, he was misleading in his role as an attorney. I did the required programs through Zona Seca and participated actively in all activities as dictated by the Santa Barbara Superior Court. After all of that, I was told by the DMV that I had to spend another 16 months at Zona Seca before I could get my license despite legal decisions surrounding my case. Pearlman was non-responsive on multiple occasions even after I had become aware of this information. When I finally got in contact with him, he informed me that I had no options other than to take the non-legally dictated decision of another 16 months at Zona Seca. In that same vein, he offered no legal advice nor action to approach or alter the decision, which was eventually determined to be a simple clerical error. Through other local Santa Barbara attorneys, I was luckily able to get the legal support I deserved. They were able to draft me a writ certiorari for a nominal price and worked to ensure I had my license back within a few months. The lack of Pearlman's willingness to help rectify my situation was remarkable. Had I not worked with other great attorneys in Santa Barbara, I would have been under the impression that I had no other options and was hopeless in responding the inadequacies of the DMV. If you have any nuances or complex components to your DUI, I would highly advise you continue to do your research and look elsewhere for consultation.

I can't express how grateful I feel to have hired Mr. Pearlman. He is an extremely experienced and thoughtful attorney. Moreover, I believe his long experience and reputation with the DA's office was critical to my success. I was arrested for suspected DUI and multiple substance related charges. I was expecting the worst as this wasn't my first offense. In the end he got the multiple counts down to one possession charge leading to an informal probation which is so much better than I was expecting. I paid him a single very reasonable fee (not going to trial) and I always felt that I was getting a service consistently worth every penny I paid. I can't say that of other lawyers that have represented me at all. In fact, he kept to our contract without charging more even though the case unexpectedly dragged on for more than a year (solely due to the red-tape of the county). I could tell that he really cared about my case and his office gave me the personal attention and time that I needed. He answered all my questions very promptly and professionally. Moreover, his office and administrative staff were just as helpful, polite and kind. They always dealt with any issues, paper work, court dates or appearances in a quick, detailed and professional manner. I thought my career, life, license and professional certification were all going to be over & ruined. Instead, because I followed his advice and instructions, I'm getting a second chance and learning a serious lesson. I would 100% recommend Mr. Pearlman first for any criminal defense needs.

I contacted Mr. Pearlman due to being arrested after I was assaulted. I had no prior record and was the victim in this case looking at felony assault charges on myself and the other party. Mr. Pearlman assured the case would get dropped because of circumstances that I was the victim and assured me he knew people in D.A. Office to help expedite this matter. I gave him the retainer fee and signed paperwork. The day of my trial he was late and did not show on time before the judge to address my case. The case was dropped none of which was addressed by Mr. Pearlman to the courts. I emailed Mr. Pearlman that he did not represent me in court like he said, nor did he make any kind of reasonable attempt to discuss getting this arrest taken off my record like we discussed during consultation. Mr.Pearlman wanted more money to discuss helping me get the arrest taken off my record, which I found out fromD.A. Office I could do on my own without a lawyer or fee needed. Mr. Pearlman had poor communication with me following retainer fee received and contract signed. His office assistant was the only professional in this whole situation. She was lovely. Thanks to Mr. Pearlman I now feel like I was victimized twice. Please consider many other lawyers that hold true to their word that will show up to your court date. A phone call to someone he may or may not have known was never verified nor did it help my case. Mr. Pearlman knew it would get dismissed and took my money anyway without making much effort.

I interviewed a number of different lawyers and while all were knowledgable. Rachel distinguished herself with her friendly but very practical demeanor. She was efficient, empathetic yet realistic, extremely easy to talk to, and honest. Compared to the other lawyers that I met with, I found her easy to relate to and felt she understood my situation and challenges very quickly. We ended up using a mediator but Rachel provided excellent counsel when I needed it, especially towards the end of our process. Importantly, however, she prepared me well to enter into mediation. I feel the mediation process was more efficient because I got great advice from Rachel in the one hour consult we had prior. Prior to our meeting, I had sent her a lengthy e-mail outlining the issues and my priorities. She took the time to read through this and had questions for me when we met. I felt this was respectful of my time and resulted in a much more productive, focused discussion with clear action items for me as a result. At the end of the day, divorce is a business transaction with a lot of emotion attached. Rachel made it a more pleasant experience throughout. And while I did not need her as much as I anticipated (thankfully), I have heard others give her extremely high marks for getting the job done. In fact a friend of mine had a few lawyers before connecting with Rachel and once connected, her divorce was expedited. Our mediator, who is very well known in our county, spoke highly of Rachel too which gave me a lot of comfort.

I was extremely pleased with Rachel Castrejon. Of course, divorce is a very difficult time in ones life. The process can be alien and intimidating. However, Rachel guided me through extremely well. Of course, she knows the law and various courses of action very well. She was technically very proficient, but more importantly, she did an excellent job of answering my questions and giving helpful and prudent advice. I honestly never once felt Rachel was "in this for the money" and appreciated that she was looking for the optimal outcome for me, for the least amount of legal fees. I would unhesitatingly recommend Rachel Castrejon to anyone.

I feel so honored to have been excepted and then hired Jim to handle my divorce back in 2007. I just picked him out of the phone book and hit the jack pot when I retained him. He was professional,  sensitive , and extremely helpful. He has always left an enormous impression on me. I am a flight attendant who had two children and was now living out of the state. He arranged meetings with me at the airport because he knew I didn't live in town and I did not have a car. My ex- husband was a con man and I came with all the proof he needed to take my case and win my divorce. In thinking about him today, I googled him to  see how he and his business is doing. I would like to thank him for his caring, friendly, and professional service. I would highly recommended him every day and all the time.  30+ years strong that is wonderful. Thank you, Jim

He stayed in contact and did everything he was suppose to do. I was so happy with his services and then about 6 months into the case it became harder and harder to get ahold of him. He wouldn't anwser calls or emails court dates were coming up and I had no idea because there was no communication. I really feel he didn't fight for me either. I was out of state so to him this was easy and free money. I got sick of everything and everyone came to an agreement so the case finally came to a end. I never received any of the paperwork so 1.5 months away from me suppose to pick up my daughter I start calling and emailing Joel. A course no anwser or reply then one morning I get a call from my daughter "Dad we are here". Thanks a lot Joel for your unprofessional lack of communication. You made me miss another chance to see my daughter. STAY AWAY FROM HIM HE IS GOOD AT FIRST BUT WILL LET YOU DOWN AS THE CASE GOES ON

Erin Armstrong handled my divorce case which also included custody and child support. She is so personable, compassionate, understanding and non-judgmental that it made the whole process so much more comfortable for me and put me at ease. She is so reliable and what she promises gets done. She follows through with any issues and communicates in an extremely clear and upfront manner about what to expect, what could happen, how to handle it, etc. She answered my messages and questions in a timely manner. She is honest, has years of experience and knows the laws of Ohio regarding family law inside and out. Erin was truly a fantastic lawyer to work with and I felt I was very supported during the process of my divorce. I have recommended her to many friends and colleagues and will continue to do so. I am so grateful to how much she has helped me and my child handle a very difficult situation which we can move forward from thanks to her assistance. I retained Erin for a complicated divorce. Not only was she able to answer all of my questions, she went above and beyond to ensure that I was prepared for anything that could have been "thrown at us". She knows her state/local/and county laws and regulations unlike any lawyer I have ever seen...even in court she had to "remind" opposing counsel of things they were not aware of. She approached all of my concerns with grace and compassion but was amazing a fighting for me and my children in court. She is open and honest in her communication with you and you will always know and feel that she truly cares about you as a client...with Erin you are not just a "number" or a "money maker" she is truly invested in helping you navigate through what is often a difficult journey. I recommend her and her services to anyone I know looking for a family law attorney.

The saying "The lawyers are the only ones getting rich is true. There were a lot of unnecessary emails between the lawyers. The meeting with the mediator was a waste of time. She said all the information wasn't collected so we should reschedule. Of course told that 5 hours in. They get paid hourly. I personally think they are all in on it to get more money. Cost me $1200 for nothing. I had a simple yes or no question to determine if I was to continue and the lawyer wouldn't answer unless I paid another $1500. She had already got $8000. She was nice enough until that point then rude to me. We decided to settle on our own and it worked out. I know not always possible. Alot of unnecessary stress.

he really is the best at what she does. If you give her all your facts up front she can get you where you need to be. I can’t say enough and how she is worth every penny. She is prompt with responses and does not waste your time on the phone. I really like that she tells it like it is because that’s what it takes to understand what needs to be done on your end to keep your kids and to be headed in the right direction as a client. She vouched for me, kept immaculate records, and always had my back. I recommend her to everyone for family law/custody things on the moms pages for a reason. My wife and I retained Mr. Rawnsley for a very delicate family law matter. We had been falsely accused of child abuse by my ex wife and an unsuccessful defense of the accusations would have been catastrophic for our family. For reference, I have worked with many attorneys in the past 10 years dealing with my ex so I have an unfortunately large amount of experience in assessing the quality of legal counsel. Mr. Rawnsley was very professional, highly informed about the relevant statutes and had a good understanding and relationship with the judicial officer (something that is very, very important). All of my previous counsel lacked in some area or another. One may have been less competent, where another may have not had the quickness of wit and depth of understanding of the law to successfully represent my interests. I can say with total confidence that Mr. Rawnsley was the complete package. He was, by far, the best attorney I have ever hired for a family law matter and it isn't really close. I am grateful for his efforts and would recommend him to anyone else.

For context: the following stems from a separation/divorce and parenting plan fight that has been ongoing for almost three years. During the first year, I felt that the firm was doing a great job going to bat for me to help me avoid a "pro se" nightmare that I was facing. However, even after the entrance of the divorce decree and final orders almost a year ago, the opposing party still decided to interpret things her own way. A year ago, I warned my lawyer that the opposing party intended to take some actions related to federal taxes. The firm either ignored what I said or chose inaction on the matter, and to this day claim not to have any knowledge of the tax situation despite email chains to the contrary from early 2021. I have now lost out on 2 years worth of tax refunds totaling more than $10,000 because of that one single action taken by the opposing party, even though it is contradicted by what is written in the final court order. No action taken in this instance, but everyone knows if I, the father, had done the same thing to her, I would've been dragged through the coals by the court. Early November, 2021 - I write an email to confirm pickup dates and times for Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. I am told I'm wrong on both and that I won't be getting to see my children until three days after the day Christmas break begins. I re-involve my attorney to help settle things. It goes to mediation, doesn't get resolved, the day of her lawyer finally confirms with my lawyer that I'll be getting them two days late and "take it or leave it" essentially. The parenting plan was violated when those two visitation days that should have been mine were withheld from me. Opposing party used various excuses and reasonings, but the bottom line is they broke the parenting order. I asked my counsel to hold her accountable, asked if there was a contempt motion we could make. It has been almost two months since those days were lost, and I have been attempting that entire time to get a contempt motion filed against the opposing party, but nothing happened. I tried asking every few days if something had been done; nothing had. It was always "Oh they didn't answer yet" or a message from opposing counsel that said "I just forwarded this to my client, let's see what she says" or "Oh sorry, I didn't see this until three days after you sent it, let me send it to my client". No motion was ever filed, and I have yet to find out if I'm ever going to get my two days back that I lost due to her choices. I pleaded with my counsel to do something. Take action. If it had been me as the father who had done what she did, she and the court would have already shredded me apart. I begged over and over for almost a month, and finally said if something wasn't going to happen soon that I would retain new counsel. That's when I received the professional equivalent of "fine I quit". Complete with self-congratulatory claims referring back to the previous work done from a year ago. To clarify with a mechanic analogy: "The car ran great the day I fixed it a year ago, I can't believe you're upset now that something else broke and I haven't fixed it yet!" If they had done what I had asked, I wouldn't have had to replace them. Two months of back and forth. Hours and hours billed for emails and phone calls, and not a single legal action filed despite several written "threats" to opposing counsel about the intent to file a contempt motion. It was as if the mere mention of the motion would've been sufficient to inspire the opposing party to mend their ways. But it wasn't. And it isn't. By the time I had hired a new lawyer, it felt as if the opposing party had two lawyers and I had none. Don't expect them to explain the reasons why behind the advice they give you. I learned more in 24 hours with the new counsel than I did over the last two years with this firm.

PWR law is the worst I would recommend finding better legal help. Patrick Rawnsley is a terrible money hungry attorney that doesn’t get good results for you if you’re not wealthy and willing to pay out your life savings. Starting he charge me a $5000 retainer fee then he burned through it in less than a month after only appearing in court for me one time. Supposed to help me with my parenting plan And charge me another $2000 retainer or he would drop my case, he burned through that and then came up with an additional $3000 of more unjustified charges. He was my attorney for less than 3 months and only appeared in court for me one time. He was supposed to help me get my youngest son into our parenting plan but was unsuccessful in all. He was a waist of $7000 and of course he falsely charged me an additional $3000 then sent me to collections with new charges with a total of over $6400. He would set up in person meetings with me his legal aid then charge me almost twice as much for each meeting. When I asked if we could just meet with the two of us he would still charge me on the backend to discuss the case with his legal aid which would be more expensive he said. 4 years later and I’m still trying to dispute what he’s done to my credit. He didn’t even care that I was broke and using student loans to pay him to help me be in my kids lives. All of this is true and I would highly recommend you use a better attorney that won’t screw you over when you are already suffering. Please tell me how an attorney can charge a poor client over $13400 but only show up to court one time and represent them for only a couple months and leaving their client in the same situation when they came to him.

Used for mediation. She bragged that she was on council that rejected assumed equal joint custody for fathers in NJ when I was fighting for joint custody. Tried to push me to accept very one sided custody arrangement. Felt like she was adversary attorney rather than neutral mediator. Seems like se is biased against fathers.

MaryAnn Bauer is a biased parenting coordinator. I question her fairness and her ethics. She will carry out many filler meetings to clock in more hours. Four out of five co-parenting issues were articulated structurally to draw excuses for the faults of my adversary. She and my adversary contacted the school without my consent to put a problem with my son's grades because my adversary had already disenrolled our son from remote learning during COVID. My son is an average A to B student. He was distraught that he threatened to fail all classes because he was removed from remote learning. At the same time, all of his peers remained remote. I had to get my lawyer to intervene, and my son was restored to remote learning. MaryAnn could not come up with a valid support for my adversary for denying me the chance to have dinner with my son on his birthday. My adversary was out of state on my son's birthday; the children were left with their grandparents. I formally asked MaryAnn to resign, but she refused, so I am stuck with her unless I pay for a motion to remove her.

Being a Military family we moved around alot from place to place - Tampa being the place we divorced . I found Marina to be extremely professional and compassionate when It came to my ugly divorce with two young children and she has fought hard for our family and continues to do so. I put my faith and trust in her hands any day. She gets things done and listens to you. I have had to re-hire her multiple times to fight back my ex who just can't let the divorce and custody issues be. She has protected us from bully lawyers who paint negative images. She truly is amazing to have your back. hired in 2014, 2019, 2022 will continue to utilize Marina for any and all court family issues. She is family first!

I had consulted Nick George for a dui. He seemed friendly at first and eager to help me beat my case. He quoted me $3,000 for the whole case and I obliged. I’ve never gotten a DUI before and I had no idea what any of it would entail. As I was asking questions, he never thoroughly answered any of them but ensured me that he would help me out. By my first initial court date right before I would see the judge he told me we would be going for a deferred prosecution. He told me what to say and everything would be fine. I did what he said. He told me with a deferred prosecution I would have to take classes and do some meetings for a little while. Didn’t seem so bad. Unfortunately due to my nativity, I later found out that a deferred prosecution meant a five year probation program that was very strenuous, expensive and ultimately not worth it. Two years of treatment, two years of 12 step meetings, no alcohol for two years while being tested, monthly probation officer visits, ignition interlock, and five total years of active probation. I also found out that many DUI lawyers will do a deferred prosecution for much much much much much less than the $3,000 I paid nick george. By my next court date, he did not inform me that he would not be there to represent me, instead a colleague showed in his place. I understand though, sometimes you just can’t make it, but he didn’t even let me know beforehand. In between all this I would call Nick to ask questions and he was always short with me and acted frustrated that I had the audacity to call him in the first place. I would seek counsel elsewhere. Clearly, having me ask for a deferred prosecution was much easier than putting in the work to try and beat my case or at least get it amended. Would not recommend in any case.

In my opinion Nick George is only after money, I am what by law is called a Guaranior and I hired him for a criminal case against another party. After being paid very quickly Mr. George had stereotyped his own client by his race. He was fired as soon as possible, . I could not believe a defense lawyer would say that about his own client. I would not trust him as a criminal, civil and especially not an immigration lawyer. My advice is to learn as much as you can on a lawyer before hiring him.

I am so thankful for Jenifer McCrea. She has been there through the early phases of my tbi and dealt with my crying and confusion and has explained things for me. She pushed to make my life better and knew how much my child meant to me. Having her represent me, has made me feel much better, She initially helped me with a no contact order and I feel helped lift a long isolation after the hospital by fighting to help me see my partner once again after months. She then helped me with what meant most to me in the world— and I can’t thank her enough. I’m more than pleased that she listened and fought for my family. I can’t thank her enough for not just representing me, but genuinely caring and pushing how she has. Her knowledge and expertise have helped someone who doesn’t know the law and when I say I will finally sleep well for the first time since my accident, I mean every single word. Thank you for giving me peace and helping me when I felt no one understood, because not only did she help in legal ways, but A LOT with my mental health by helping a depression I have had since this whole incident. I highly recommend her!!

After a full year of therapy for C-PTSD,  I had finally gained the mental/emotional strength to hire a lawyer to advocate for me in a divorce.  I am a survivor of domestic abuse and criminal acts.  After a month of researching local lawyers,   on 3/11/22,  I hired Kristen Marie Buzzelli to represent me in a Dissolution of Marriage with the payment in full sum of $2000.00.  In the consultation with Ms Buzzelli, it was quoted to me that because there were NO children involved, NO marital property,  that the set fee of $2000.00 would not only cover all costs, but more than likely, I would receive funds back.  The only thing I was asking of the Court was help from my then husband, to pay for 1 year of co-pay for my continued Trauma Therapy.  I was also told it would be a quick, easy resolution due to the facts of the Dissolution and would be over in a matter of 60-90 days. 4 full months went by with no contact from Ms Buzzelli herself,  and after many emails back and forth from Ms Buzzelli's paralegal,  a court date was finally in sight. 7/26/22 I received a total of 2 phone calls my entire case and 1 was the night before the court date of 7/25/22.  I did not feel heard or advocated for.  I felt rushed and unprepared. On 7/26/22,  I showed up to the Jackson County Courthouse and was ill prepared to have to face my past abuser for the first time.  My lawyer walked right by me and didn't even recognize me.  I had not seen my abuser in close to a year and I had an adverse reaction to this encounter.  I spoke with my lawyer about it and quickly left  with the judge's permission to not have to see my abuser again due to my emotional upset.   On 7/27/22,  I wrote an email to my lawyer and stated I no longer wanted to ask for help with co-pay for therapy because I did not want to have to go through anymore.  I simply wanted the Dissolution finalized as soon as possible.  There was no response for several days. Ms Buzzelli,  then contacted me by email,  and stated that she had spoken with my (ex) husbands lawyer and I quote "although we cannot get any of his 401K or retirement,  I was able to get you $1500 and if you will agree to that,  it will be settled"   I was in shock, because I had asked her to NOT do that and to drop asking.  I had not asked for 401K or retirement,  I wanted all strings cut completely and to go on with my life.  She then sent me an invoice for the conversation she had with my (ex) husbands lawyer for several hundreds of dollars and stated that "if I wanted to sign over the $1500 in a trust to her,  it would cover the costs"   So let me restate this:  I asked her to no longer pursue any help from him financially because I wanted it over due to mental/emotional health, and she not only did NOT listen,  but proceeded to ask AFTER I stated clearly I did not want her to.  She then turned around and asked for the money that had been agreed to by his lawyer for my therapy - FOR HERSELF - to pay for the very conversation she had AFTER I asked her to no longer pursue any money.     I hired her to advocate for me in something that had been extremely hard and very damaging to me and not only did she not advocate for me personally - but then asked for the money that was agreed on for my therapy - for herself.  Unethical in my opinion.   I paid her at the date of hire 3/11/22 - $2000.   With no children, no property - and nothing to be divided whatsoever, the Dissolution of Marriage did not take place until 11/30/22. Almost 9 months later.  I found her services to be bare minimum interaction,  limited support and re-victimizing in the worst way.  I needed support, not someone after money.   I do not recommend her for hire and am now considering reporting to the BAR.  She continues to send me invoices for continued payment.

I hired Attorney Tina Abdolhosseini for a domestic violence case in April 2024. My experience included: Misrepresentation of Coverage: Ms. Abdolhosseini falsely claimed limited coverage by ARAG to obtain a larger retainer. Lack of Communication: Emails and inquiries were often ignored, leaving me uninformed about my case. Tina never consulted with me-- she always made me work with paralegals instead, while charging me attorney rates. Unprepared Court Representation: I received an unfamiliar attorney with little knowledge of my case just days before court. Missed Court Date Change: My request to postpone a hearing was mishandled, potentially jeopardizing my restraining order. Due to these issues, I terminated services and filed a complaint my prepaid legal service provider. Seek alternative representation. Disclaimer: This is a summary of my personal experience.

I engaged Tina to handle a case I had against a furniture store. Initially, she was prompt and responsive in her communication. However, after I paid for a demand letter, her communication dwindled, and her assistant took over correspondence. When the demand letter yielded no results and I proceeded to file a lawsuit against the store in small claims court, Tina ceased responding to my inquiries altogether. This lack of professionalism was unexpected and disappointing. It appeared that Tina was content with the initial payment and showed no further interest in assisting me. I felt abandoned in the midst of my legal battle. Regrettably, I cannot recommend engaging Tina or her office for legal matters.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
